Scene 1-Co-Star!-Friday
Kagome had been up since 4am. She hadn't been this excited or this nervous since her first real acting job. Though she'd had the script for a month she got up and went over the scene they were shooting today anyway. The last month had been a hectic one as she'd finished up production on her previous movie. It hadn't been a big role so they had waited until the end of taping to do most of her scenes. The rest of the month she had spent going over the script and learning her lines. She knew most actors only studied the scene they were doing that week but she liked to learn the whole thing as quickly as possible. That way she could already have in her mind what emotion was coming and how her character grew and changed over the length of the story. She yawned as she made her way through the studio gates at 5:30am. She was no stranger to waking up early. She had grew up on a little farm in Iowa where getting up at the crack of dawn was normal. Movie making was not as glamorous as people thought. It was 12 hour work days with temperamental people and sometimes unpleasant conditions. She knew an action movie would mean unpleasant conditions. In fact today she would be involved in a brief fight scene.
She was met by wardrobe and rushed into make up, where she continued to read her script and keep up polite conversation with the staff. Kagome prided her self on being nice to everyone…she didn't want the stigma of being a diva to work with…well not until she'd earned it. Besides it wasn't in her nature to be rude and arrogant at least not usually…except when it came to a silver haired arrogant male chauvinist named Inuyasha. He was the only one who made her loose her temper so quickly. Now why in the hell am I thinking about him? She shook it off and in another hour she was on the first set of the day. She looked around for Miroku but didn't see him. She knew he wasn't directing this movie but she'd heard that he kept a heavy hand in most of his projects, making him a very busy man. It was a wonder he found time to make Sango melt in his hands. The thought of Sango and Miroku together had Kagome smiling. She looked at Sango's situation a little differently, seeing Miroku as a knight in shinning armor. Then again that was just her country roots showing. She knew that knights and true love were in short supply out in Hollywood. A woman out here would be lucky if she married for a good career booster/partner much less love.
“Ah Kagome there you are.” She turned at the sound of her name. “I'm Kent Wolfe, we talked briefly over the phone.”
“Oh yes Mr. Wolf it's an honor to meet you.” Wolf was the director and his last two action movies had hit it big at the box office.
“The honors all mine. I've looked forward to working on a Hidinni, plus I've heard and seen good things about you.”
“Well thank you very much.”
“This morning we'll be shooting the scene in the movie where you meet Jack Black.” Jack Black was the leading man's name. “It will be the scene where the sacred jewel that has been in your family for generations has just been stolen. Jack Black is there because he was tracking the thieves for the CIA. You of course mistake him for one of the thieves at first and you two tussle. Don't worry, it's nothing complicated today. And as soon as Jack Black gets here well take you two through the scene two or three times before we actually shoot it.”
“Mr. Black?” Kagome asked confused. She still didn't know who most of the others actors were but it was doubtful that the real name of the leading man was actually Mr. Black.
“Oh sorry, I rarely use the actor's real names once a project starts. I find by calling them the character name it helps them focus on that persona. Sorry you'll get used to it soon. But I was just saying that as soon as Inuyasha gets from makeup well get today's filming started.”
Kagome blinked at him, wondering if she wasn't all the way awoke this morning after all. Had she just heard him say Inuyasha? “Did you say Inuyasha?”
“Yep, I'm right here in the flesh.” Mr. Wolfe and Kagome both turned to stare at the voice. Kagome's mouth dropped open as she stared at him. He was in black tight leather from head to toe. His long silver hair tied back into a slick pony tail, showing all the sharp angles of his face. She couldn't say a word as she was in shock and her mouth wouldn't close.
“Ah there you are, I'll let you and Mira I mean Kagome catch up, though I know you two know each other. In about 15 minutes we'll start shooting.” That said Mr. Wolfe walked away and left the two alone.
Inuyasha walked closer and he was pleased at the effect he was having on her. He was also pleased with what she had on. The theft was to take place right after a dinner party in her character's house. As such she had on a long red evening gown, with diamonds hanging from her ears and wrist and neck. Her hair was piled high on top of her head and his fingers itched to run his hands through it until it all tumbled down. The tempest of his dreams was now in front of him.
“What….what are you doing here?” Kagome finally managed, gulping as his muscles rippled in the tight material as he walked towards her.
“You heard the man, I'm Mr. Black…your leading man.” Kagome shrank back from him as if he had physically touched her.
“What? You…you…damn it no one told me you were in this movie!” She huffed lodging her hands on her hips.
“Did you ask anyone if I was in the movie? Did you ask about anyone else in the movie or did you just jump at the chance to be in a Hidinni production?” Inuyasha asked smirking as he saw the tell tale blush appear on her cheeks.
“You better believe if I'd known I wouldn't have taken it.”
“Come on Kagome. For whatever reason I know you don't like me….or that you pretend that you don't. But I'm a complete professional when it comes to my work, so maybe we can be civil while we're on the set.” Kagome just narrowed her eyes and walked closer to him. She could smell a rat and she smelled one now.
“If that was a sample of your acting ability then I'm impressed. You actually sounded like a rational, level headed adult but I'm not buying it.”
“You don't have to buy it Kagome for it to be true. Anyway you might as well get over it. We're stuck together for the next six months or more. And as leading man and woman we'll be working very, very close together.” He looked her up and down making his meaning clear. Kagome gasped in outrage and probably would have slapped him if it wasn't for the director calling for everyone to get in their places. She took her starting place underneath a desk in the darkly lit set and stewed and waited.
---
Sango was actually asleep at 10:30pm when her cell phone rang on the bedside table. She groggily snatched it up. “He-llo?”
“Sango how could you!” Sango slowly rose up and wiped her eyes as the yelling voice penetrated her brain.
“Kagome? What…what is it? I was asleep.”
“I thought we were friends how could you do that to me?” Kagome whined on the other line. She was lying in her huge tub in a bubble bath. She had been home for less then an hour.
“Huh…do what to you? What's wrong?” Sango was having a hard time focusing and gave herself a little slap on the face to wake herself up.
“What's wrong? What's wrong! I'll tell you what's wrong. I just had the most terrible day of my life and it's your entire fault.” Kagome screamed through the phone as she splashed bubbles on the floor.
“Calm down, I have no idea what your talking about. Oh! You started filming today. Hidinni didn't give you any trouble did he?”
“Hidinni? Who's talking about Miroku I'm talking about Inuyasha!”
“Huh, I don't understand. What does Inuyasha have to do with the movie?”
“Everything! He's the leading man, why didn't you tell me.”
“He is? Well that's certainly a surprise.” Sango said calmly stifling a yawn.
“It was more then a surprise it was a nightmare!”
“Kagome what's the big deal? So you're working with him. I know you don't particularly like the guy but he's a big star. With him as the lead the movies bound to do even better at the box office.” Sango had never really understood why Kagome disliked him so much. True he was arrogant and shallow but he was no worse then most big stars. Actually he was a little nicer then most and overall he was harmless.
“I'll tell you what the big deal is. I spent the first hour of my day rolling around on the floor with him, that's what's the big deal is!” Kagome closed her eyes as she remembered their brief fight in the movie. Her character was suppose to trip him as he ran past her desk because she believed him to be the thief. She'd had no problem showing anger on her face as they practiced then shot the scene. After she tripped him, she was suppose to jump him which then resulted in a two minute struggle with them rolling around the floor. “I don't even like being in the same room with him, much less rolling around the floor with him!” The stunt person had taught them a couple of different moves and holds then they had gone at it. The fire in Kagome's eyes had been real and she had actually been trying to hurt him. Kagome came out of her musings at the sound of laughter.
“What? Are you laughing at me it's not funny!”
“I'm sorry!” Sango said covering her mouth. She remembered that scene from the script and found the thought of those two having to fight on the first day of filming ironic. “You have to admit it's kinda funny.”
“It wasn't, it was horrible!” Kagome remembered how it had been torture having her body pressed against his over and over again. The material of her dress was thin and his tight leather hid nothing of his shape from her. It had taken them three practices and three real takes before the director had been happy with the shot. By the time the director had called break, Kagome had been aroused and angry! She had set in makeup and asked for a stiff drink. Luckily they'd had only one more scene together that day and the rest had been solo scenes or scenes with other actors.
“Well Kagome, I don't know what to say. I told you not to be so hasty when you were signing the contract. Production has started you can't back out now without getting sued. And even if you weren't sued you would get a bad reputation in the business.”
“I know…besides I'm not a quitter. I just wish I'd known he was going to be in the movie.”
“Would that have stopped you from signing?” Sango asked seriously.
“No…no it wouldn't have. This role could be really big for me. I would have taken it anyway.”
“That's what I thought. Kagome this is just the beginning of your career. I'm sure this won't be the first time you'll have to work with someone you don't like. You're a great actress, don't let Inuyasha blow this for you. Suck it up and tough it out. Now I want to get back to sleep and you should too, I'm pretty sure you film on Saturday's too. Good night Kagome, I'm sure tomorrow will be better.” Sango hung up and Kagome heard the dial tone in her ear. She clicked off the phone and let it drop to the plush rug besides the tub before she sank down into the hot water.
“Suck it up, easy for her to say.” Kagome pouted as her body shivered from the remembered feel of his body on hers. The movie had several scenes where they had to be close and they even had one sex scene.
“Damn it. It's going to be a long six months!”
Scene 2-Welcome home-Sunday
Sango was nervous…very nervous and even though she told herself to calm down she couldn't. Kohaku was coming home today. He'd had his first month of treatment and seemed to be responding to it wonderfully. Since he was doing so well Dr. Sesshumaru preferred that he be at home. He felt that people and especially kids healed better in surroundings that made them happy instead of a stuffy hospital for two months. Of course Sango was ecstatic that she could bring her brother home. She was weary about him meeting Miroku. She had convinced the man in question to stay at home while she went and picked her brother up. He had relented but had said he would be waiting at home for their return. Now as she rushed down the hall to his room she was nervous about the two meeting. She pushed in his door to find the doctor and Rin standing by his bed. Also standing was Kohaku. Tears came to her eyes at the sight. It had almost been two months since she had seen her brother standing on his own to feet. She blinked the tears away as he looked over at her.
“Sango!” Kohaku would have run to his sister but a restraining hand from Dr. Sesshumaru stopped him. He was glad, since he would have looked like a little baby giving his sister a hug in front of Rin.
“I have to finish checking you first.” Sesshumaru said blandly as he listened to the boys' lungs and checked his pulse. Everyone remained quite while he finished up. Finally he leaned back from the boy and nodded his head as he marked off his chart. “Okay, you look pretty good to me. Take it easy while at home and when you get tired rest. Remember for the last month of treatment it will be once a day but we'll be giving you double the dose. It's still five days a week. M-F do not be late. The treatments will make you tired, so like I said rest a lot but when you do feel better get up and move around, build your muscles and endurance back up, other then that, your free to go. If you have any unusual side effects come in immediately.”
“Okay, thank you doctor.”
“You can thank me by getting better.” The doctor said before reached his hand out to the boy. Kohaku stared at the hand for a moment. He was being offered a handshake…like a real man. He took the hand and gave it a firm shake. “Now Rin don't keep them to long, I'm sure they want to get home.” He turned to Sango and handed him her card. “I know you already have it but just in case. If you have any real concerns let me know.”
”Thank you doctor I will.” Sango took the card and put it in her purse as he walked out the door.
“Well congrats you get to go home. Here I brought these for you.” Rin bubbled out pushing a small handful of flowers into Kohaku's hand before he could react. Sango watched as her little brother blushed and couldn't seem to form any words. She bit her lip to stop a giggle from escaping and cleared her throat.
“Um I'll go outside and sign you out at the front desk, just come get me when you're ready to leave.” Sango said and gave the red face Kohaku a smile before she dashed out. Kohaku was relieved that his sister had left the room and now he stared at Rin without knowing what to say.
“Uh thanks. But I thought we decided the first day that guys don't really like flowers.”
“You decided that, I didn't. Besides that's just silly. Plus I had to get you something for your release, it's a day to celebrate!” Rin said grinning from ear to ear and Kohaku couldn't help but smile back at her. She had visited him up to three times a week and they had spent many hours talking about nothing to deep teen issues. He believed he would have died from boredom if not for her.
“Well thanks, I appreciate you visiting me, it really helped.”
“No problem I had a lot of fun. I'll miss you Kohaku!” Impulsively she launched herself into his arms for a hug. The weakened boy stumbled back but caught her at the same time. He was paralyzed by shock and the embarrassment staining his cheeks. If she hadn't pulled back he probably would have held her forever. Rin stepped back and brushed her long hair from her own burning cheeks. She hadn't meant to hug him but she was sad to see him go. She looked down and started to rummage through her purse while her blush went away. When she came back up she stuffed a card into his other hand.
“Here, just because you're leaving doesn't mean we can't still be friends. That's my private home phone and my cell. Give me a call when you get bored…okay.”
Kohaku nodded and finally pulled his eyes from her face to look at the business card in his hand before he started smiling. “Why do you have business cards?”
“Oh that. Well my dad says that it's never to early to act professional, plus I got them free off this one web site and their cool and I…sorry I was rambling again. Look you better go. I bet your sister is waiting on you. Bye! Don't be a stranger.” With a wave she bounced out the door, her red hair swinging behind her.
“Bye.” He whispered and finally moved. He was still remembering her hug…he shook it off and made his way slowly out the door and to the front desk where his sister was waiting.
“Ready to go?” Sango asked, noticing that he held the flowers to his chest protectively.
“Yep…let's go home.”
---
Miroku was pacing…something he rarely did. He was waiting for his wife and his…god his brother-in-law to come home. Miroku didn't know anything about teenagers. It had been to many years since he was one and if Kohaku was like him then he was in big trouble. He hated to admit it but he was worried the boy wouldn't like him. If Kohaku didn't like him then Sango never would. He understood how close their bond was. The bigger question was why did he care if his wife truly liked him? They had come to an uneasy routine in the last month. During the week they rarely saw each other and he only slept in their bed when he couldn't resist having her in his arms anymore. Then on the weekends they spent a comfortable if mostly silent time together working or lounging in the same part of the house. They also dined together on the weekends. Miroku hadn't had regular dinners with anyone since he was a child and his mother had insisted upon it…bless her soul. He had to admit he enjoyed meal time a lot better when she was sharing it with him. He had no clue why he still wasn't satisfied with their arrangement.
Besides she never turned him away when he came to her. In fact she didn't even blink an eye if she came home to find him in their bed. While from time to time they still clashed over petty things overall everything was going very well. He should be happy…but he wasn't. He'd had the staff prepare a room especially for her brother down the hall on the same floor as theirs. He'd had no clue what teenage boys were into now days and had left it completely up to the staff. They had used Kohaku's old room trappings that Sango had brought when she had moved in but Miroku had found them lacking and had made some suggestions unknown to Sango about the room. He knew she would have told him it was none of his concern. She seemed determined to keep him out of her life as much as possible.
Then there was the boy himself. Would Kohaku take an instant dislike to the man that was now in his sister's life? Or would he dislike him for the bargain they had made. Miroku had no idea how much of the truth Sango had told her brother about this marriage. Either way he would soon find out. Miroku wasn't used to having anyone up under him. He had no clue if Kohaku would be one of those “leave me alone I hate the world” teenagers. Or would he be spoiled and clingy from being raised by his dotting sister? He looked at the clock again and decided to gather the staff together, they should be arriving any minute.
----
The ride home was a little tense, for Kohaku was nervous too. It hadn't escaped his notice that his sister's new husband hadn't come to pick him up…plus he had never visited, not even once. He had talked to Rin about and she thought his concerns were unnecessary and that his sister would never pick someone who didn't like him…Kohaku wasn't so sure. They were newlyweds after all. The guy might not appreciate having a kid underfoot. He barely knew anything about the man. Sango had shied away form talking about him on her visits. He wondered if her husband would be bossy. He wasn't used to being bossed around and he didn't think he would appreciate it from some guy he didn't know. He would try to make the best of it as long as Sango was happy.
“Are we there yet?”
“Almost, just another couple of minutes.” Sango gripped the wheel tighter in her sweaty hands. Kohaku finally took notice of his surroundings and noticed that they were in the more upscale neighborhoods. Did they live here now? He frowned as he tried to remember what she had told him her new husband did for a living. She had merely told him that he was in the business as same as her. The fact that this guy had money, at least way more then them, increased his interest and also made him more uneasy. Most rich people didn't like kids and believed they just got in the way. He wondered would he be shipped off to a boarding school once he was better? He stopped looking out the window and started sulking again and didn't really pay any attention until they stopped.
“Well we're here. Um I'll get your bag.” Sango hurried to the backseat where a bag of his books and things she had brought to entertain him lay. Kohaku stepped out the car and blinked….then blinked some more. He was staring at a mansion. He had never been this close to a house this big in his entire life. He felt Sango's arm around his shoulders and looked up at her, questions in his eyes.
“We should go inside, I'm sure he's waiting on us.” Kohaku didn't answer but let her lead him up the drive where the door was opened before they even touched it.
“Good Evening Mrs. Sagno and good evening to you also young master.”
“Uh…hi.” Kohaku couldn't believe his eyes a real butler was standing before him.
“Sorry George my brother isn't use to all this.” She apologized as the butler adeptly took Kohaku's one bag from her hands.
“No problem. If you'll follow me, Master Hidinni is waiting in the parlor.” They did and Sango was dismayed to see that he had lined the whole staff up again.
“There you are, we were afraid you'd never come back.” Miroku said stepping forward. He made eye contact with his wife and saw the disapproval in her eyes before he turned his attention to the boy at her side. His first thought when he looked at the pale, frail boy was that he was the clingy spoiled type. But when he looked in his eyes he saw intelligence and a maturity that probably wouldn't have been there if he had not had so much tragedy in his young life. He also saw the appraising and suspicious look the boy was giving him and couldn't help a small smile from crossing his face. So the boy was protective of his sister.
“I'm Miroku Hidinni and you must be Kohaku. It's a pleasure to finally meet you.” Kohaku looked at the second hand of the day that was extended to him and shrugged off his sister's arm to step forward and take it. In the age old fashion of men sizing each other up Kohaku had an irresistible urge to shake the man's hand as hard as he could, which wasn't to hard in his condition but he gave it a try only to have the man arch an eyebrow and grin at him harder.
“Nice to meet you to Mr. Hidinni.” Something clicked in Kohaku mind and he glanced around the fabulous house one more time. “Wait a minute you're the Hidinni aren't you? From Hidinni Productions!”
“That I am.” Miroku said amused by the young man's new excitement. He turned his gaze to Sango and she just rolled her eyes. “Let me introduce you to the staff who will be happy to help you with anything you need.” For the next ten minutes Miroku did just that and finally dismissed the staff all except George.
“Kohaku, George will take you to and from your appointment every day, so you definitely need to remember him if no one else.” Kohaku nodded taking it all in. He would have his own personal driver! After George departed they all started slowly up the stairs to show Kohaku his room. Along the way he asked the question that Miroku wanted to know also.
“Sango why didn't you tell me you'd married the Hidinni?”
“I uh…thought I did.” She said looking anywhere but at Miroku.
“No you just said that you'd married someone who worked in the business with you.”
“Hininni does work in the business.”
”Sango get real. He is the business! All his movies are hits and he even produces number one music!”
“I'm impressed. Not to many people know about my record producing.” Miroku said and Kohaku blushed at the praise.
“I'm just a movie and music junkie that's all. But you make some really good stuff.”
“You're a junkie huh? Well in that case I think you'll be pleased with your room.” Miroku said before opening the door, to hear the two behind him gasp. The boy walked past him and looked around his eyes wide.
“Hidinni what is all this.” Sango said stepping into the room herself.
“Nothing much, I thought Kohaku was missing a couple of things, so I decided to take care of it.”
Sango scowled over her brother's head as she took in the room again. Miroku's idea of a couple of things really meant a lot of big expensive things. Her brother now had a large entertainment stand that housed a 30 inch TV, and DVD/VCR player. A big stereo system and a rack that would hold at least 250 cd's. He also had a movie case which was packed with DVD's. Not a single one had been in the boxes Sango had brought to this house. As if that wasn't enough Kohaku had his own personal computer sitting on his personal desk that included a scanner and printer and even a fax! What in the world would a teenager need with a fax? It seemed he also had a web cam, to top it off.
“Hidinni this is unac-“
“This is great! Wow thanks a lot.” Kohaku cut off her protest.
“You're very welcome. I figured you could use the desk and the computer since you should be well enough to go back to school by the time it starts in a month or so. You have your own phone line for the internet and your phone use. The number is next to it. Also all you have to do is dial 0 to get the house staff if you need anything.” Miroku said happy that boy seemed to like the changes to his room.
“Kohaku doesn't need to know what button to push for the servants. He won't be using it. He's use to doing for his self.” Sango said in a chilly voice that Miroku hadn't heard in a couple of weeks. He turned his attention to her and gave her a frosty look of his own.
“When I had that put in I was thinking more for his safety. At the moment he's technically still quite ill. It's a long way from this room to downstairs. If he was hurt or needed anything the button would be quicker. However…I can have it removed if you like.”
“I…I hadn't thought of it that way. Please leave it in.” She turned away from him shame faced to see if her brother had seen the exchange between them. He seemed to be more interested in his new stuff.
“Kohaku please don't hesitate to use it for that purpose if you need to.”
”Yeah, okay I won't”
“Maybe we should let him get settled.” Miroku said and grabbed her arm firmly.
“I suppose so. Dinner is at 6:30, I'll come get you. This place is pretty big, I got lost the whole first week!”
“Okay cool.” Kohaku said as he turned on his computer. Miroku tugged on her arm and she followed him out the door.
-----
She waited until they were almost back to their bedroom door before she stopped and snatched her arms from him.
“Look Hidinni, I was wrong about the phone thing. I apologize it was very nice of you to think of that. However we need to get a few things straight when it comes to Kohaku.” Miroku had known this was coming. His wife would never let something like this go.
“And exactly what few things are those?”
“One is that Kohaku did not grow up spoiled and having everything at his fingertips like you. I for one think that will make him a better man. I don't want you throwing gifts at him left and right and destroying the values I've taught him. He has to work and earn what he gets. Besides when this…this marriage is over I don't want him to have to get used to living a certain way again.”
Miroku's eyes took on a far away look and he stared straight ahead when he answered her. “Fine, now for your information as I just told you before your brother is still very sick and its summer time. He's a young man with nothing to do but sit in the house while his health returns. I got him that stuff so that he wouldn't be bored out of his mind not to buy him off with gifts. The reason I gave for the computer was the real one. Because he lives here now he'll have to change school districts. And the schools in this district are upper class and top notch. If he didn't have a computer he would never be able to keep up with the school work. As for me spoiling him so that he won't know how to live when this marriage ends, that should not be a problem. Maybe you should get out your contract again. I clearly state that you will receive a healthy alimony form me once we are divorced, if you fulfill your end of the bargin.
“But I told you I didn't want that.”
“And I told you that I would put in into a trust fund for Kohaku instead, so you don't have to worry about him being a pauper.” Now he looked at her. “And lastly don't ever assume to know me or my life. You have no idea how I was raised or what was and wasn't given to me.” Sango wanted to step back from the chill in his eyes but stood her ground. “Now if you'll excuse me I have work to attend to before dinner.” With out another word he left her standing in front of their bedroom.
Scene 3-And Action!-Friday
It had been one of the longest weeks of Kagome's life. So far the movie was going pretty good. The director was a little wacky but what director in Hollywood wasn't. He had been serious about the staying in character stuff. She hadn't been called by her real name since that first day. Even after shooting ended he still called her Mira. Yep Mira Jones was her characters name. The whole film was called “Treasure Hunt.” The plot deals with Jack Black a deep undercover agent, pursuing a ring of thieves who have a more sinister plot for their merchandise. And of course it centered on Mira Jones. A rich, prim business woman descended from a long line of ancient protectors of a sacred jewel. A jewel which falls into the hands of the thieves Black is tracking. What Black doesn't know is the jewel holds powers that the thieves (who are really a part of a small terrorist group) can use against the world. Now they've teamed up, both being more then what they portray to be to get the jewel back and save the world. Of course somehow they find time to fall in love as they chase this thing all over the place. She was often amazed at how long it took to make an two hour movie. She was finding out that it took true action movies even longer. There was lots of down time as lighting and sets was changed and it would be a miracle if the movie only took six months.
She didn't mind that so much but Inuyasha was getting on her nerves. One day he was bothering her all day by saying inappropriate things or giving her looks and the next he was extremely professional and flirting with all the other female cast openly. Not that she cared who he flirted with but he needed to make up his mind and behave one way. She was tired of being caught off guard with his actions. It was like their interaction off the set was mirroring the characters on set. Hot then cold, cold then hot. Today was a particularly cold day. He hadn't said one unnecessary word to her. Not a joke, no meaningless convo to pass the time, nothing. In fact if they didn't have a scene together then he stayed as far away from her as possible. It wasn't like she had done anything to him…not that she cared…the bastard. No matter how long she was around him everyday, time wouldn't let her forget how sexy she found him. And if by chance she did forget the other women on the set would remind her. They were all jealous that she got to play the leading lady. Well they could have him for all she cared. Right now they were in some down time. They were getting ready to shoot one of the ending scenes. Their characters will have just been in the final battle for the jewel and would be surrounded by debris after an explosion. Black is badly injured and is cradled in her lap with the recovered jewel on his chest. Jones is afraid he's dying and they admit their love to each other. The scene ends with what is suppose to be a desperate and passionate kiss of their love. She was not looking forward to the kiss with him acting like a cold fish today.
Inuyasha sat across the studio with his head tilted back and a pair of sunglasses on. That was his way of telling everyone to leave him alone. He hated down time…only because it allowed him time to think about her. He sat watching her through the tinted glasses and felt like cursing. All week he'd had to be close to her and touch her. It was driving him crazy. And why is it that all action hero stuff had to be skin tight. If he saw her in one more skin tight jump suit or dress he was going to loose it. Up till now he had been pleased by his plan to win her over. This week he had been slightly flirty but had showed her that he could be a gentleman and a professional when the time called for it. Today though he had avoided her like the plague. Today was scene with a kiss…and damn he couldn't wait. It would be his first chance to taste her lips. Their roles had called for a lot of brief touching, lots of witty and sexual banter but no kissing until now. All week he had been trying to keep his dirty thoughts o his self and his hands from lingering during scenes. And now he had to kiss her with pent up longing. Well he had plenty of that. He wouldn't be acting when the time came, nope he wouldn't be acting at all.

Miroku was having one of those rare days where he had free time on his hands. It didn't happen often and he planned on taking advantage of it. He had swung by the house to change clothes and was heading back out when he caught site of George.
“Master Hidinni I didn't' expect to see you home so early.”
“I know, got a little free time on my hands about to go check on one of my projects. How's your day shaping up?”
“Everything has been running smoothly sir. I was just on my way to pick up young master Kohaku.”
“Really? That's right his treatments get out at 5:30.”
“Yes sir they do. I should be on my way so I'm not late.”
“George never mind, I think I'll go get him myself.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, like I said I have some time, just tell me where to go.” George spent the next couple of minutes doing just that and Miroku hopped into his Jag and headed out. Miroku wasn't sure what had made him suggest he pick up the kid though. Maybe because he was in a fairly good mood. Plus he honestly liked the kid. He'd really only had that Sunday to spend any real time with him, even so he'd liked the boy right off. He figured now would be a prefect time to get to know him better. At least maybe he could get the brother to like him. Sango was a different story. He been told that since her brother's arrival she was home most nights by 7 but he rarely saw her either. They were politely avoiding each other. He had been to upset to go to her at first and then he'd figured she was to upset with him, so he had not shared her bed all week. Shaking the thought off he took the elevator up to the chemo floor and went to the front desk only to be stopped by someone calling his name.
“Mr Hidinni what are you doing here?” Miroku turned around and scowled at Kohaku sitting in the waiting chairs behind him.
“First your sister and now you. My name is Miroku why don't you try calling me that.”
“Sorry, that's all I ever hear my sister call you so I figured I should do the same.” Kohaku stood up
unsteadily and Miroku rushed to help the boy.
“Steady. Are you ready to go?”
“Yeah, but where is George?”
“I left him at the house, I decided to come get you myself.”
“Oh.” Kohaku was extremely surprised. He had barely seen the man's face in the last five days. His sister had explained that he was a very busy man, but he wasn't an idiot. He knew they had argued about him the first night and he also knew if he rarely saw him then it was the same for Sango.
“So are you ready to go?”
“Yeah you just have to sign me out at the desk.” Miroku hesitated to let go of his arm afraid that he'd fall down. It seems Kohaku read his mind. “I'll be alright I'm always like this right after.” Miroku nodded and went to sign him out. In ten minutes they were down to the car where the boy's eyes lit up.
“Holy cow. Is this your car!” He had seen the many cars in the huge garage when he and Geroge left the house but this one had always been missing.
“Yeah I've been giving the old girl a spin this week. Hop in.”
Once seated Kohaku ran his hands over the dash then slumped back in the seat. “This car is neat. I wish Sango had something like this, I'd get a kick out of her driving me around in it.” Miroku glanced at the boy as he whipped out the parking tower.
“She does. I bought her a Ferrari as a wedding gift but she won't drive it.”
“Really? That doesn't surprise me, she doesn't like taking gifts from people, but she'll insist that you take them from her. Weird huh?”
“Yes, your sister can be quite weird when she wants too. Here's a piece of free advice, all women can be weird when they want too.” Miroku said dryly. They sat in silence for a few miles and then Kohaku cleared his throat.
“Something on your mind?” Miroku knew a “I need to talk” throat clearing when he heard one.
“Uh yeah. I just wanted to say I'm sorry that you and Sango had an argument over me and aren't talking anymore. I didn't mean to be any trouble.”
“Did your sister tell you that?” Miroku asked surprised by the comment.
“No, I can just tell. I'm not a little kid you know, I notice things. Besides, Sango has a certain look about her when she's mad at someone and she not made at me or Kagome so I figured it was you since your never home.”
“I see. Well your deduction is right. She is mad at me but it has nothing to do with you. For the record it's not even about me not being at home. Sango knows I'm a very busy man.”
“I guess. Not that I know anything about it, but it seems a newly married man would be at home with his wife.” Kohaku shrugged tiredly and looked out the window. Miroku didn't argue, the kid had him there. Still he didn't think Sango would appreciate him discussing their business with her 14 year old brother, so he tired to change the subject.
“Well, I have a lot going on right now. In fact if you're up to it I was going to swing by my new movie and see how the filming was going.”
“Swing by your movie? You mean like go to a real studio?”
“Yeah. We wouldn't stay long. I just want to check and see how things are going. You know Kagome's in this one.”
“Kagome really? I'd love to see her at work.” Even though Kohaku had a little crush on Kagome he'd thought of her as a second sister since he'd known her.
“Are you sure you feel up to it? Cause I can take you and go by tomorrow when you have more energy.”
“No, I'm pretty sure I'll make it an hour or so, plus I really want to see where you make movies.”
“Then you're on. Let me tell you what this one is about.” He filled him in on the plot for the rest of the ride and while they made there way inside.
-----
They had been called to make up, where dust, fake blood and a set of ripped and torn customs awaited them. Then it had been time for the shot. An explosion went off and Jack Black went flying through the air the jewel clutched in his hands. He hears a woman scream out his name and keeps his eyes closed until he feels her gather him onto her lap and wrap her arms around him. He presses the jewel to his chest with one hand and the other presses down on the fake blood pouch under his clothes causing the red substance to flow out.
“Jack? Jack can you here me!” Mira yells slapping his face. His eyes flutter open and he stares up at the wild haired, wide eyed pain in the ass that he's come to love.
“Yeah, I can hear you I can also feel you slapping me.”
“Damn you. Now is no time for jokes. Your hurt…your hurt bad.” Mira Jones has seen a lot in the last couple of weeks but the sight of his blood chills her.
“Yeah but I got the jewel and we saved the world.”
“Who cares about the jewel! Stop trying to play the superhero Black.” She squeezes him a little harder because his eyes are closing even as he smiles. Damn him to hell.
“I am a superhero, that's what they do right. Rescue the damsel and save the world.”
“For the record I'm no damsel in distress and your no hero. Hero's don't die.” She said stroking his tangled hair. He seems to force his eyes open with great effort before he smiles at her.
“You got me there. Hero's don't die and I'm not to sure I'm going to be that lucky.”
“Hang in there. Your CIA buddies should be here any minute.”
“Honey, I'm not sure I have minutes to spare.”
“I'm not your honey either.” She snaps half-heartedly. His eyes close again and she shakes him. “You can't die on me now! Not now! You can't come in my life and steal my heart like a thief and just leave. Don't be a bastard Jack Black and leave me with out even a kiss. I'll never forgive you.” Like a miracle he opens his eyes again and even though he feels really weak he raises his bloody hand to brush a tear from her cheek.
“Honey…why the tears? You'll get your kiss…I'm not dead...yet.” They gaze at each other with longing born of realized feelings that come to late. In a rush they meet each other in a passionate and desperate kiss to starve off death. The jewel is crushed between their bodies as there tongues fuse and they try to convey there feelings of love in this final kiss….
“And cut! Great job that will do it for the night.” The two actors lost in the real heat and passion of their kiss broke apart slowly as if they were in a dream. Kagome had felt like Mira, desperate to show her love to her dying lover before it was too late. Her lips were tingling and Inuyasha was looking at her with his intense eyes as if he could see right through her clothes. “Wow I could really feel the passion and desperation great job I don't think we'll have to do it over.” Wolfe continued.
“I disagree.” Everyone turned to look at this knew voice on the set. Miroku and Kohaku had snuck in during the beginning of the scene and watched. Kohaku had looked on with excitement while Miroku had watched with more jaded eyes. He had immediately seen the chemistry between the two and knew that for whatever reasons he had made the right decision in picking Kagome. There sexual tension would sizzle on the screen. He actually agreed with the director that the shot was prefect but he was in a good mood and was feeling playful. Besides he figured if the way Inuyasha had stars in his eyes were any indication his friend would be thanking him for his little interference. “I think the kiss could have been better…it was a little dry to me.”
Kagome had been shocked to here Miroku's voice and see Kohaku but she was even more shocked at his words. Was he crazy? She could feel the steam from that kiss in her ears. Inuyasha caught his friend's eye and hiked a brow and then hiked the other as he figured out what Miroku was doing. He had to bite his lips to keep from smiling.
“Well I suppose it wouldn't hurt to give it another take.” Wolfe said eager to please the man who paid his pay check. “Take it from `for the record I'm no damsel'. Three, two, one and action!” They did the scene over but now Kagome was aware of ever inch of his body against hers. Aware of the fact that she couldn't wait until his tongue touched hers. Inuyasha was having a hard time his self in more then one way. Instead of gripping her with desperation of love he was gripping her with desperation of lust. When the director called cut he was breathing a little to hard and her eyes were cloudy.
“Hmmm, that definitely wasn't as good as the first. I need more desperation, more agony. Let's take it from the same place.”
He wants agony? I'll give him agony, Kagome thought as she opened with her line. When the kiss came she showed her desperation all right. She was desperate to get this scene over with so she could get out of his arms! Inuyasha was in real agony and for once in his life he was desperate to have a woman. He hoped it came through to the director because he didn't know how many more times he could do this scene today without making a fool of himself and attacking her on the set.
“And cut! That was much better. I think either that one or the first one should do, that's a wrap everyone. Remember, no filming tomorrow, enjoy your weekend off you won't get to many more.”
“Good job Mr. Wolfe.” Miruko said and tuned out what the man was saying as he continued to watch the two actors slowly getting up from the set. Watching them had made him think of Sango. He had missed being in her bed this week and could have played the role of a desperate man very well himself right about now. Maybe it was time he went home and made up with his wife.
-----
After the last kiss they had both been breathing hard and afterward they lay there looking into each others heated eyes.
“Kagome…you should come home with me tonight and we can finish what we've started.”
“What? Get real.” Kagome pushed him off her lap and they slowly stood up to face each other.
“Come on, you can't deny that was real passion in those kisses instead of merely acting. Why deny yourself.” Inuyasha said softly so the people rushing around them couldn't here.
“You're right. There was real passion in those kisses….but it wasn't for you. And don't worry I don't plan to deny myself. Tonight I have plans you're just not in them.” Inuyasha lost his smile as she turned and made her way over to Miroku and the kid. She had plans…just not with him? What the hell was she talking about? Was she seeing someone else? He made his way over to the group slowly, reluctant to give up without a fight while his body was still hot.
-----
“ Kohaku I'm so glad to see you! I'm so sorry I've been meaning to drop by all week, but I've been exhausted after filming!” She said giving the boy a tight hug that made him blush.
“It's okay. Wow, I've never seen you act in person you were awesome. You were really good too Mr. Tessaiga. That was a really hot scene.” Kohaku couldn't believe he was standing next to Inuyasha Tessagia!
“And what do you know about hot scenes?” Kagome said teasing him. He blushed and Miroku came to his rescue.
“Any male over twelve knows a hot scene when he sees one. I have to agree, that was hot.”
“Well thanks, I'm glad you finally approved.”
“No thank you. I can tell that you're doing the character justice.”
“Hey Kagome, maybe you can come to the house for dinner.” Kohaku seemed to realize he'd spoke out of turn and looked to Miroku. “I mean if you wouldn't mind.”
”Not at all that's a wonderful idea. I'm sure Sango would be thrilled to see you.” And if he made Sango happy, maybe she wouldn't hit him with a brick when he tired to come to her bed tonight.
“Yeah, that sounds like a plan. You don't mind if I invite myself over, I'm hungry too.” Inuyasha wore a sly grin thinking he had Kagome just where he wanted her.
“Of course not Inuyasha, there's room for everyone.”
“Thank you Kohaku and Miroku, but I have to decline. As I told Inuyasha a minute ago I have plans tonight. In fact here come my plans right now.” They all looked in the direction Kagome was facing and Inuyasha's eyes almost fell out his head as he saw who was coming their way.
“You can't be serious? You have plans with this guy!”
“Yes I do.” She told him frostily, but smiled as her date came closer. “There you are Kouga just in time.”
“Hello everyone.” Kouga greeted and received a scowl form Inuyasha.
“Kouga dear give me thirty minutes tops and I'll be ready to go. I've been looking forward to this evening all day.” Kagome purred as she turned her back to Inuyasha and gave Kohaku a kiss on the forehead. “Later kid, I'm glad to see your up and about. Tell your sister I'll be calling her tomorrow. I'm sure I'll have a lot to talk about.” With a wink to Kouga she walked off in the direction of her trailer. Inuyasha was livid! He had caught her hidden meanings and was not pleased. Miroku was trying not to laugh at him and was about to fail so he decided it was time to go.
“Well better luck next time…you know about dinner. Kohaku and I should be going. Nice to see you again Mr. Meed. Maybe one day you'll work on one of my projects.”
“Same here Mr. Hidinni and thanks!” Kouga said excitedly as the two walked away. Now it was just Kouga and Inuyasha.
“Don't hold your breath.”
“Excuse me?” Kouga said confused.
“You heard me. Don't hold your breath about getting a part in one of his movies. You're not at that level yet. And if I were you I wouldn't hold my breath about getting in Kagome's pants either. You're not at her level yet either.” Inuyasha walked away before Kouga could respond, upset at the very thought of Kagome being in Kouga's arms tonight instead of his.
-----
Sango was about to loose it. She had come home at 6:30 and went straight to her brother's room to say hello, only to find him not there. On her way to ask one of the staff she had ran into George and inquired about her brothers where about's. She had been very disturbed to find out that Miroku had picked Kohaku up and they weren't home yet. Why would he want to pick him up? What would they talk about? Why weren't they home? These and many more questions were running through her head. It was now very close to 7:30. Didn't the idiot know that Kohaku was always tired after his treatments? He needed rest not to be out running around. Besides who told him he could pick up her brother without her permission and take him god knows where? When her so called husband got back she was going to give him a piece of her mind! When the door opened 15 minutes later she ran into the hall.
“Oh my god Kohaku there you are. I was getting a little worried.” She grabbed him into a hug and shot daggers at Miroku. “Are you tired? Are you all right? Let's get you something to eat? Do you feel like eating? You should, and then you can rest.” Kohaku couldn't get a word in as she dragged him to the kitchen. Miroku thought he'd better not test his luck and left the two alone.
While Kohaku ate a light dinner he told her all about his time with Miroku. It was obvious that he'd had a great time. She hadn't seen him this animated in ages. By 8:30 though he was starting to feel it.
“Maybe you should go to bed, I know it's early but…”
“Yeah I think your right. If I sleep all night and day who cares, its Saturday tomorrow.”
“That's right, and Saturday's are made for sleeping in.” She reached over and gave him a kiss on the cheek and he blushed.
“Sango geez! You really have to stop treating me like a baby. You can't go freaking out like you did early when Miroku brought me back. He asked me was I tired before we went to the set. It was my decision to go and I had a lot of fun.”
“I…I guess your right. I just over re-acted when you weren't where you were suppose to be. I'll try my best not to let it happen again. But the kisses…well those are my sisterly rights to embarrass you with until you're at least 16 so learn to live with it.” They grinned at each other and Kohaku held out his hand.
“Deal sis. Now I'm off to bed.”
“Fine I'll walk you up but only because I'm about to call it a night myself. Like you said tomorrow's for sleeping in and I want a head start.
-----
Sango had meant it and after seeing him to bed she had taken a long bath and prepared for bed herself. Kohaku was right, she needed to stop treating him like a baby. She hadn't really started until he'd become sick and she had been afraid of loosing him. She had over reacted though. After all Miruko might be pig headed sometimes but he would never harm her brother. Miroku…he must really be mad at her. He had not tried to come to her bed once this week. Sango hated to admit it but she had become use to his visits and even craved them. He was an excellent lover and she enjoyed the feel of arms around her in the middle of the night. Oh well if he wanted to pout like a little boy then let him. She gave a deep sigh and walked out her bathroom, Miroku was waiting for her.

“I hope you don't mind, I wanted to talk to you.”
“Of course not, what can I do for you.” He was silent for a minute at her business like tone. What he was about to do he didn't have much practice in but he pushed his ego aside and went for it.
“Look, I'm sorry about keeping Kohaku out so late, I should have at least called you, it-“
“It's okay, I over reacted. He had a wonderful time. Thank you for taking him.” Miroku just frowned at her hurried words. Well she had just taken the wind out of his sails. He had definitely not been expecting an apology from her after the way she'd looked at him downstairs. “I was trying to apologize.”
“I know but you don't need too.”
“But I wanted too.”
“But you don't have too.”
“Are you always this stubborn that you can't even take an apology?” Miroku asked aspirated.
“Look I accept your apology, you accept mine, now can we stop having this ridicules conversation and go to bed.” Sango gave him a small smile until she saw the passion light up in his eyes and realized how he had taken her words.
“Am I welcome in your bed?” He asked testing the waters. Sango turned away and looked at the big bed trying to figure out what to say.
“I suppose so…I mean it is big enough for two.” She tired to say lightly.
“That's not what I asked. I said am I welcome in your bed Sango.” He had stepped forward to take her arm and was talking in his low sexy voice. She hated when he did that to her. Her brain didn't seem to function right when he used it.
“Technically it's your bed too, so feel free to sleep in it.”
“That's not what I'm asking.”
“What do you want me to say?” She said irritated.
“I want to you say you want me in our bed.”
“I don't care if you're in it or not Hidinni.”
“Oh, so you don't care if I do this?” He nipped the skin right under her ear with his teeth and slid his hand down her back and over her satin clad rump.
“No…not really.” Sango said softly, balling her hands into fists to keep from grabbing him.
“And you don't care if I do this either?” He dipped his head and took a nipple in his mouth, satin and all.
Sango gasped and looked down at him with wide eyes and for a moment was speechless as sensations flooded her. Finally she snapped out of it and stepped back from him. “Stop playing games.” She looked at him with lowered lashes to hide her passion.
“Your right, now is not the time for games. It's been a long week.” That said he scooped her up in his arms and she had no choice but to put her arms around his neck as he carried her to the giant bed. “It's time to go to bed…wife.”
-----
As Kagome walked into her house with Kouga she was thinking the same thing. It was definitely time to go to bed. It had been more then six months since she'd had sex and if her behavior earlier on set was any indication she was over due. And why not Kouga, she certainly couldn't really want Inuyahsa. She had probably only felt that way about him because she was experiencing withdrawal systems. Well she planed to get a fix tonight! She had talked to Kouga on the phone several times this week and tonight he had taken her to a 5 star restaurant for dinner. Now they were seated on her couch.
“Kouga I had a wonderful time tonight.”
“Me to Kagome. Did you know you have the most alluring eyes I've ever seen?” He said with his hand caressing her knee.
“Uh thank you.” What a cheesy line! But she'd forgive him since his hand felt pretty decent. Kagome usually didn't make the first move but today had been long and frustrating. She leaned over and kissed him and at least he wasn't slow on the uptake. Before she knew it she was flat on her back on the couch and his hands were all over her. It felt good to be touched by someone other then that disgusting Inuyasha. Kagome commanded her self to stop thinking about him as Kouga hands roamed her body. Ooh…they feel so good on my breasts but their not as big as Inuy-. Damn it, focus Kagome. He has a long tongue ohhhhh I bet he can do a lot with it! Unbidden a picture of herself naked and her legs spread popped into her mind. A silver head of hair lay in-between them and was giving her wonderful pleasure.
“Oh God!” Kagome yelled twisting away from Kouga who sat up.
“What? What's wrong?”
“I um just got a headache out of no where.” Kagome grasped for an explanation as she sat up and straightened her clothes. “I'm so sorry. I get them out the blue like this when I'm stressed or too tired. This first week of shooting has left me feeling both. I really think I should get some rest.”
“Oh…it's okay.”
”No, I was looking forward to tonight.”
“Hey, no biggie, you don't work tomorrow, maybe we can get together.”
“Yes, maybe…I'll give you a call.” After a little more chit chat she walked him to the door and could barely resist slamming it.
“Damn you Inuyasha! Get out of my damn head!”
Scene 4- A Priest, A Gypsy and a guy named Miraka-Saturday
Sango had indeed slept late but then again she had spent half the night underneath Miroku. She let a smile come to her face since no one was around to see it. Kohaku and Miroku were out by the pool. They seemed to get along very well and Sango didn't know how she felt about that. She had always felt bad that her brother didn't have a male influence in his life but if she was picking one Miroku would not have been her first choice…or her second or third. After all he was arrogant, ruthless and a womanizer. She didn't want any of those qualities rubbing off on her brother. But she would let it go as long as she didn't see any changes in Kohaku's behavior. Besides he was growing up. He had to start picking his own friends and deciding what was right and what was wrong.
It was going on 5:30 when she heard the chime of the front door bell. She was in the down stairs study reading. She wondered who that could be. They weren't expecting anyone. Hmmm, maybe it's Kagome, come to visit today. Maybe she had decided to come by instead of call. Sango got up and rushed into the hall. Where George was showing two people inside.
“Mrs. Sango may I present to you Master Naraku Hidinni and Ms. Kaede Hidinni.”
“Oh my. It's a pleasure to meet you both.” Sango had not been expecting to meet relatives of Miroku on such short notice.
“If you'll all excuse me I'll go get Master Miroku.” George bowed and made his way off. Sango cleared her throat as the two imposing people just started at her.
“Do you know who I am?” The man asked.
“Actually no. But from your looks I'm assuming your Miroku's father.” Sango's words came out more brittle then she'd expected. But his tone had been condescending and he was looking at her as if she was a piece of merchandise and he was trying to figure out the value of it. They both were. She stood looking at his cool eyes as he continued to appraise her. He was tall and well built for a man his age and his black hair was streaked with grey which only gave him a more commanding look.
“Child pay my nephew no mind. I am Kaede, Naraku and Miroku's Aunt. It's nice to meet you.” The older woman gave her a smile but it didn't reach her eyes. She was plump and her head was totally grey and she wore a wise but shrewd look upon her face. She approached Sango and actually starting walking around her in a circle looking her up and down. “Yes, you'll do nicely you have wide hips for bearing children and you seem to have a sharp tongue and brain also. I'm surprised that Miroku chose so well.”
“Excuse me?” Sango couldn't believe the nerve of them both. She felt her anger rising and struggled to contain it.
“Yes I'm surprised as well. I didn't expect him to do such a good job.” Naraku said as he and his aunt ignored Sango's outrage.
“It surely most be the end of the world the day my father gives me a compliment for anything.” Sango turned at Miroku's voice behind her. He came to stand beside her with Kohaku and he put a casual hand around her waist. She immediately felt better. She had not looked forward to handling his family by herself.
“Ah son we were just introducing ourselves to your lovely wife.”
“I see. Don't you think it was rude to drop in unannounced we were trying to have a relaxing Saturday.”
“No more rude then for you to keep your new wife hidden from us for over a month. I was waiting for you to come to your senses but my patience ran out.” Naraku fired back and Miroku clenched his jaw together to keep from saying something unpleasant.”
“Now you two behave. Miroku we only came by to see your new family. This must be Sango's brother. Well aren't you a handsome young man.” Kaede pinched his cheek and smiled at him.
“Thank you Ms.”
“He has manners too! I'm glad to see someone does in this house.” Naraku said grinning at the boy. Sango was surprised but both uninvited guests were giving Kohaku real smiles. Maybe they weren't so bad after all. Maybe she'd give them one more try before she decided she didn't like them.
“Forgive me your right. I was just caught off guard. Would you two like to stay for dinner? It will be ready in less than twenty minutes and I'm sure we have more then enough.” She felt Miroku's arm tighten around her waist but ignored him.
“If my wife doesn't mind neither do I. Please come into the study I'll inform the staff of the changes.” Miroku walked off towards the kitchen. He didn't like his father invading his home but he really wasn't surprised. His father had waited a long time and so had Kaede. His great, great aunt was the matriarch of the family and had her nose in all the family affairs at all times.
----
They enjoyed to Sango's surprise a nice conversation before and during dinner. It was easy to see how Miroku and Naraku rubbed each other the wrong way…they were to much alike. At least in the fact that they wanted everything their way. She also warmed up to Kaede. She was one of those old women who thought it was their right to say whatever popped in their mind as if it was their due for living so long. But she was also sweet and well meaning. Everything was going well until the very end of dinner.
“Sango you seem to be a delightful young woman. Forgive me for asking but what would make you enter such a deal with Miroku?” The table become quite at Keade's innocent question. Sango was appalled that she was bringing it up at the table and her eyes went to Kohaku's who seemed puzzled by the question.
“Uh, Kohaku if you're done you don't have stick around listening to us.” Sango said giving him what she hoped passed for a smile.
“Yes, I think we've bored you long enough. Feel free to go do whatever.” Miroku added. Kohaku hadn't been bored, but he could take a hint. He was curious about what they wanted to talk about without him in the room but not that curious, so with a shrug he got up from the table.
“Nice meeting you Mr. Hidinni, Ms. Hidinni.”
“Call me Aunt Kaede. He's such a nice young man.” She said as Kohaku waved and walked away. Sango waited until she was sure he was out of ear shoot before she turned back to her two guests with fire in her eyes.
“My brother knows nothing about my arrangement with Hidinni and I insist that it stay that way. So please keep any comments you have to yourself while he is a round.”
“Well, I admire a woman who can speak her mind. I apologize for my Aunt, she can be careless at time. Though I admit I was thinking the same thing.” Naraku said un-phased by Sango's anger.
“Sango has made her wishes very clear I expect you both and any other family members to respect them. Personally it's not your business about our marriage and I would thank you kindly to remember that while you're under my roof.” The two nodded but Miroku wasn't fooled that either one of them was chastised.
“Son, could I have a word with you alone in your study? It's a couple of business matters.”
“I suppose so.” The two men got up and walked off leaving the women alone.
-----
Miroku walked into his study and shut the door behind his father. They both directly went to take a seat.
Naraku opened his suit jacket and pulled out two fine imported cigars out. After clipping them he handed one to his son, who after a slight hesitation took it. Miroku knew it was his father's way of calling a truce. Miroku found a lighter in his desk and lit both cigars and settled down aside from his father.
“So what did you want to talk to me about…father?”
“You picked a woman with fire…I'm surprised since you're mostly ice.”
“This coming from the king of ice. Besides Sango can be very icy when she chooses too.”
“Hmmm. Well I like her. She seems like a sturdy woman.”
”Is that what you called me in here for? To talk about my selection of a wife?”
“Yes and no. Do you love her son?” Miroku frowned and looked at his father to see he was frowning also.
“I didn't know I had to love her, to have a child by her. That was your requirements right? Find a woman get married and have a child so that we could all be saved for this horrible curse right?”
“Yes…but Keada's question was valid. Sango seems to be a very bright well put together woman. Why would she agree to something like this? And you decided to take on her brother as well. It seems you could have chosen a less complicated woman to fulfill your duty.”
“I guess it doesn't hurt that I have money and Kohaku is practically a man, so leave him out of this.
Why do you even care?” Miroku asked annoyed even though he softened his tone when he asked the next question. “Did you love mother when you first married her?” His fathers face softened for a brief moment, so brief Miroku wasn't sure he'd seen it.
”No I didn't at first. She had come from a good family and my father had made the match for me. But I soon fell in love with her.”
“Apparently not soon enough or this curse would be over now.” Miroku shot back dryly. Naraku just ignored him.
“Look, Sango doesn't strike me to be your average Hollywood bimbo who would marry Satan if it made them rich. No…I know what makes people tick and I don't believe she would marry you and have your child just for money. Something else would have to drive her or she'd have to be in love with you.”
“We're not in love.” Miroku said blankly.
“Then what is it then? You did actually tell her what's going on right?”
“Look father it's touching that after twenty eight years you've taken an interest in my life but don't worry about it. Sango knows everything she needs too and again our reasons and arrangement are none of your business.”
-----
The two women had sat staring at each other until Kaede starting laughing.
“Forgive me child, I didn't mean to upset you and I'm not laughing at you. It tickled me to think of Miroku with someone like you.”
“Why you don't think I'm good enough.” Sango asked bluntly taking the offensive. Her question only made the light of laughter shine brighter in the old woman's eyes.
“Not at all, I think you're too good to be true in some ways. Let me be blunt as well. I like you Sango. Some that have come into our family before, I did not like. Or least not in the beginning, but I took an instant like to you. It's for that reason that I would not like to see you get hurt in this situation.”
“Well…I thank you for your concern. But we were very up front about what this marriage would be between us.”
“So you don't mind the curse than that hangs over the men of this family?”
Sango wrinkled her forehead not sure what the woman was talking about. “You mean the thing about the family tradition? Yes I know about that. I must say I think it's rather odd, but I suppose rich people do strange things no offense.”
“Huh? We do it because we have no choice! If not for the curse do you think we would do such a thing!”
“Curse? What does that have to do with anything?” Sango looked to the doorway, hoping to see the men coming back. This conversation was getting a little weird.
“So…he did not tell you after all. I thought as much.”
“Didn't tell me what?”
“About the curse of course.”
“I'm not sure what you're talking about. Hidinni did tell me that your family has tradition that the oldest male must marry no later then the age of 28 and produce a child by the age of thirty. It's all very weird but mainly has something to do with preserving the blood line and the family name.”
Kaede shook her head and wished Miroku was a little boy so she could take him across her knee. “That is some of it but it is not a tradition but a plague upon our family. Listen closely to what I am about to tell you. I carry the history of our family and know this story well. But do not take it as a bed time story for it is the truth. About a century ago a very small clan of Hidinni's lived over in the east country, the Sahara and roamed as nomads. Let me state from the beginning that they were very prideful and still are to this day. My ancestors roamed the country side rarely staying put.
One year however there was severe drought and they settled in a small community town of gypsies for the whole summer. The head of the Hidinni family was a Priest and he had four sons. His oldest son was a carpenter and was very good with his hands. It is said he used them for more then building houses if you get my drift. Anyway the son and father often argued over the son's morals and direction. The father wanted the son to take over leading their small band of family that consisted of the Priest's two brothers, one was a farmer, and the other was a carpenter and their family's. Now this summer while they were in the gypsy town the oldest son whose name was Miraka met a young and beautiful gypsy named Tamara.
The two had many secret meetings the whole summer long and Miraka actually fell in love with her and she with him. This whole summer however his father had been riding him very hard to settle down, to become a man and take on his responsibility as the oldest, after all he was 28, and the life span was not as long as it is now, especially over there in those harsh conditions. Miraka thought about all this and because he had found love, suddenly felt a sense of responsibility for family and decided to do as his father asked. So one night he told Tamara that he wanted to marry her and of course the young girl accepted. Pretty much her whole community knew what was going on and she was happy that she wouldn't have to sneak around in shame anymore.”
“Well that's good, at first I thought he was taking advantage of her.” Sango said. She had to admit the story was interesting, but wondered if it really was a bedtime story and if the old lady had all her marbles.
“Don't judge yet, let me finish telling the story. When Miraka went home to tell what he thought would be a pleased father, he was mistaken. His father being a priest felt it was beneath his son to marry a woman of her stature. Gypsies unfortunately were looked down upon by most people. Being considered tricksters and magicians…though they are much more. Plus the father felt she was loose of morals for he knew she and his son had been doing more then talking all summer and he felt that the new leader of the clan needed a wife people could respect. Now part way through the summer another small group of nomads had also come to the town to take refugee form the drought. Their leader had a young daughter named Desiree who the priest had been keeping an eye on for his son. Not to mention that if his son married her there was a good chance that the two small groups would band together thus making survival that much easier, as they roamed the desert.
So father and son had a huge argument over Tamara and the father forbid him to see her again. Over the next two weeks Miraka's whole family pulled at him to marry Desiree and do the right thing for the family. Finally they broke him and he went to the other clan leader and asked for his daughter's hand. The leader agreed of course for the Priest had spoken to him often about such a match between their children. Less then a week later they were married. By the time of the marriage it had been three weeks since Tamara had seen her intended and when she came upon the wedding she was shocked and dismayed. All of the town looked upon her with pity and reproach and her family was shamed greatly for they had already started telling their neighbors that their daughter was to be married.”
“Oh how awful for Tamara!”
“Yes it was, but it would be worse for us. So later that night Miraka felt horrible after he had heard how Tamara had taken the news. His father had not allowed him to see her but now he insisted and begged his father to let him go to her and explain. His father agreed but went along with him, to make sure he would come back. When they arrived at her family's place they were met with hostility until Tamara stopped her family. She begged Miraka for an explanation which he gave her. He told her about his duty and that he had married in the best interest of his clan. However he swore that he had really loved her and how sorry he was.
Tamara sobbed in tears but her whole family was outraged! Now what Miraka should have found out before he decided to betray Tamara was that her grandmother was one of the most gifted gypsies in the town. She came forward and was very upset, because Tamara was her favorite granddaughter and not only was she heartbroken but shame and humiliation had been brought to their family. With revenge in her heart she cursed Miraka and his family.” Kaede paused for effect but she could tell by the faint smile that the other woman had yet to take her seriously.
“This story has been passed down and I will tell it to you as it was told to me. This is what the grandmother said. “In the name of fire and vengeance I put a curse on you Miraka Hidinni and all of the males in your family present and future. You say you marry because you are of age and it is your duty then let every male marry no later then your age whether for duty or lust! If they do not then no male child will be born to them. Let every Hidinni's seed be tainted so that they will sire no child after the year of thirty! I curse you such in the hopes that the wicked name of Hidinni will dye out and be stricken from the earth! This is you punishment for turning your back on true love! This is the curse on every male and will only be broken when a male child is conceived from such a union of true love!”
“You're kidding me right?” Sango interjected bewildered. “That sounds like something out of a movie!”
“Child I rarely kid and where do you think movie ideas come from? Needless to say the two men left quickly with the family laughing as they ran away into the night. Once home they shared their story with the rest of the Hidinni family. The father being a Priest did not believe in all the mombo jumbo, though they had all heard stories in their travels about gypsy curses. However they put it out of there mind and life went on. Two weeks later the two newly joined clans left that town and headed out. Now after a while they all had a laugh over the curse. Then the Priest's oldest nephew by his brother the farmer reached twenty nine and then decided to get married. Back then people got pregnant just from looking at each other. So when a year passed and his wife had no kids, he became mad and tossed her aside. That could be done back then. She remained with the clan but for all intents and proposes she was a divorced woman.
She took up with someone from the other clan traveling with them and after three months of being with him she was pregnant and later had a child. She went on to have many children. Now the Nephew had remarried but could not get the second wife to bear a child either. No one however blamed it on the curse. Now the farmer's second and last son reached 28 and was married by chance at that age. How ever his wife had a daughter for their first child in there first year of marriage. The marriage had been arranged and the wife spent all time dotting on the child and the husband was loose and spent more time with questionable women then her anyway. After his 31st birthday he changed his ways and wanted more children, especially seeing how his oldest brother didn't have any. But it was too late, his wife never conceived another child. By now 5 years had passed and Miraka had two children by his wife Desiree, one boy and one girl. They were not a happy couple for his heart belonged to Tamara and Desiree was bitter for he did not hide his love for the other woman. Both of their children had been born or conceived before his 31st birthday. After that he'd had no more children. Now after what befell his two cousins the family remembered and took more notice of the curse. Miraka next to oldest brother was 27 and they strongly encouraged him to marry.
He did so and his wife had two sons and one daughter before he reached 31 after which she had no more. By now they believed in the curse or at least most did. Now the brother who was a Carpenter and the youngest brother to the Priest had three sons. Out of his sons only two headed the curse, the other never had any children. Now Both of Miraka's last two brothers had children at his urging to believe in the curse but all ready the Hidinni name was dying out. None of the Farmers sons had had sons so his line was gone. Only two of the carpenters and luckily all four of the Priests sons ever had children. None of the original three brothers every sired anymore children after the curse was placed on Miraka and the family. Over time some have headed the curse and some have not. Now out of the three original brothers only the Preist's line remains and the descendants of Miraka and his brothers. The other line died out 35 years ago.
I am a child of the last line left and so is Naraku and Miroku. Miroku's father was stubborn and also thought the curse folly and barely married before his 28th year was out. Because of this his wife only has one son…Miroku. The men who bare the Hidinni name and who can bare children has come at last to Miroku. He is the only one left after a 100 years.”
“Kaede I don't believe any of this. But let's say I did. If this is true, why did the men of the family let it get this way. From what I gather they didn't have to wait until 28th to marry why didn't they just marry sooner and that way they could have had more years to have children.”
“The Hidinni men are stubborn and prideful and sometimes stupid. Some did, other's didn't. In general Hidninni men seem to marry later in life. Some as I said refused to head the curse at all and by the time they wanted a family or to settle down it was to late.”
“Okay fine, but you mean to tell me that with the men being so randy that didn't have children outside of marriage?”
“Of course they did! But all those children are females. It is the curse, they must be married to even have a chance of having a male child.”
“This is crazy. So you mean to tell me that in a thousand years you guys couldn't break this curse? Not one Hidinni man married and conceived in love?”
“It must be a male child conceived in true love and apparently no. No male yet has sired a child once he is 31 and no males at all if they marry after 28. In the beginning after the curse was deemed real, the men looked upon getting married as a duty and was bitter about it. I told you Hidinni men do not like to be forced into anything. Then they are slow to love. Ambition, and passion drive them. Even with all this our family moved to American over a 100 years ago and made a fortune soon after and it has been kept in our family ever since. Some of course did marry for what they thought was love but really it was lust, and so the children were conceived in lust not love. That is not to say that this family is full of loveless marriages, as I said they are just slow to love and thus it becomes to late.”
Sango had heard enough. She stood up shaking her head. “I don't know what to say.”
“Say that you believe it. I have no idea of you and Miroku's arrangement but it is imperative that you give him an heir. Two if possible in the next couple of years.”
“Well I can't control fate.” Sango didn't want to talk about her arrangement with Kaede or her having kids by Miroku.
“It would be better if you could break the curse. The line only has Miroku, it can not survive much longer. Give him a chance he is very loveable underneath his ice.” She said slyly.
“Well…I'm sorry that you believe in this curse but to be honest if you expect us to fall in love with each other…then you're out of luck.”
“She's out of luck with what?” Miroku asked. Both women turned to see the two men and Kaede slowly got up.
“Nothing, it was women's talk. Well Naraku it's time you take an old woman home and let these lovebirds have some piece.” Sango shook her head at the old woman and her and Miroku led them out. She wasn't sure if she was buying this whole curse thing….but if they believed it and if Miroku had married her for that reason he had not been truthful with her when they had discussed their engagement. Sango did not like to be lied to.
“ I'm sorry they dropped in unannounced. I hope they didn't bother you too much.” She turned and looked at him with narrowed eyes.
“Not at all. Kaede is especially charming. She was just telling me a rather amusing old tale about your family.”
“Oh really?” Shit, what had his aunt gone and done? “About what exactly? We have lots of old stories, we're an old family.”
“Yes I know….it must be nice to be able to trace your family back to its origins.”
”So what did she tell you?” She was making him nervous by not answering his questions.
“Never mind Hidinni. I don't feel so good, I think I'll go rest for the rest of the evening. If you don't mind I'd rather be alone…for the rest of the night.”
“I see…” He did see. Whatever his aunt had said he was no longer welcome in her bed tonight. “Well get some rest and I hope you feel better.”
“Yes, so do I” She went to retrieve her book without another glance at him. She had some thinking to do…lots of it.
