Chapter 22: A Few Conversations

Sesshomaru watched his mate as she ran down the hall for a bit, then turned towards the dining hall. He could tell just from a light sniff that Inuyasha was still there. He headed down the hall towards his destination, leaving the two Asura youkai women to do as they pleased. He walked into the dining hall and was slightly surprised to see his half brother sitting there, just staring blankly at the table.

Inuyasha looked up at the person that had just entered the room, somewhat surprised that it was Sesshomaru. "What do you want, Sesshomaru?" he asked, his voice still filled with sadness and self-loathing.

"I have come to offer you a deal." Sesshomaru told him. "One that I think you will like." Sesshomaru walked to the other side of the table and gracefully sat down across from Inuyasha.

Inuyasha looked at him suspiciously. "What? Something like, you kill me and then for being so generous, you get the Tetsusagai? I don't think so." he said. It was something that normally would have had Inuyasha on his feet ready to fight, but he just sat there, the hopeless look still remained in his eyes.

Sesshomaru shook his head. "No. Nothing like that. It is more of an offer than a deal. I would like you to stay here." Sesshomaru said.

"No shit. You already said I could stay here for a while." Inuyasha said, once again, not getting angry. He dropped his gaze back down to the table.

"You misunderstand. I wish for you to live here. Permamently." Sesshomaru said, no hint of mocking in his voice what-so-ever.

Inuyasha picked his head back up to stare at his brother, disbelieving. Why would Sesshomaru want him to stay there? It was no hidden secret that he hated hanyou's and human's, alike. But, then again, he had mated a human, and he did take care of a human child. "Why?" was all Inuyasha asked.

"Little Brother," Sesshomaru said, using the title that he so often used to taunt Inuyasha with, though there was a more gentle, kinder tone to his voice. "I have come to understand several of Father's actions recently. He would not want us fighting like we have been. I have actually brought shame to the family by being as selfish as I have in my pursuits for the sword." he said, his voice staying soft and almost loving.

Inuyasha could only stare at his older brother. When he could no longer maintain eye contact, he dropped his gaze down to his lap. "Are you saying that you finally accept me? Even though I am a hanyou?" he asked quietly, quickly looking up again.

"Yes. Human blood and all. If you will accept me, that is." Sesshomaru said. "I've been told that I am not all that great, though those that spoke such things met with death soon afterwards." he said, a small smile barely appearing on his lips.

"I think I can manage a jerk like you." Inuyasha said, some of his old cockyness returning to his voice and face.

"Good." Sesshomaru said, standing, the smile still visible on his features. He motioned for Inuyasha to stand and follow him as he started to exit the room. "I am guessing you would like a bath, now?" he asked as he headed towards the hot springs.

Inuyasha brightened up a bit more. "That would be great." he said, quickly following after his brother.

Sesshomaru and Inuyasha reached the springs quickly and Sesshomaru slid the door open. "I will have a servant bring you some clean clothes and take these to be washed." he said, pointing to the filthy fire rat kimono that Inuyasha wore. "Then, they will show you to a room."

Inuyasha nodded and walked into the elaborate room. He turned around and slightly bowed out of thanks before he closed the door and began to undress for his bath.

Sesshomaru smiled, quite happy, as he went to find his mate and, hopefully, an unmutilated Jaken. He found Kagome in the garden, chatting with Sango while they both watched the children tackle Miroku. He was momentarily shocked that he had remembered the humans' names, but figured that it was only natural since Kagome had used their names. He scanned the area and saw Jaken hiding behind the rock that Kagome sat on, and mentally grinned.

Meanwhile, Rosuto had dragged Raven off to talk. She had not been able to do so earlier, but now had ample opportunity. "I saw how you were looking at him." Rosuto said once they had gotten to a secluded area where no one would be able to overhear theur conversation.

Raven looked confused for a minute. "Who?" she asked.

"Inuyasha-san." Rosuto said. "Sesshomaru-sama's younger brother." she explained further.

"And just how was I looking at him?" Raven asked. She already knew what would be said, but didn't want to admit or deny anything just yet.

"You like him." Rosuto accused. "You like Sesshomaru-sama's younger brother."

Raven looked at her like she had gone crazy. "Why would I like a hanyou?" she asked. "He ... he ..." she stuttered a bit. "Okay, so what if I do?" she asked.

Rosuto smiled at her. "I knew it. It's not bad to like a hanyou and Inuyasha-san is strong." she told Raven. "And you will get lots of time to get to know him. He will be staying her for a while."

Raven looked at her, slightly doubtful. "Arg, fine, whatever. We are dropping this now." she said.

Rosuto smiled. "Okay. Let's go outside. I'm sure that Rin and Shippo have worn someone out by now." she said, standing up and heading for the door. Raven followed behind her, thinking about what little information she knew about Inuyasha. When they got outside, they saw the monk being attacked by two vicious children that were tickling him as well, Kagome and Sango sitting and talking while still keeping on eye on the three children, and Jaken trying to go unnoticed by the children. Then there was Sesshomaru watching over everything.

Sesshomaru noticed Rosuto's presence behind himself and turned to her. "Rosuto, could you please have a servant take some clothes to the hot springs for my brother?" he asked her, knowing that she could say no now that she wasn't one of his servants.

"Hai, Sesshomaru-sama. Is there anything else that I could do for you?" she asked.

He nodded. "His clothes need to be taken to the wash room and I would like you to have some servants prepare the empty room five doors down from my own." Sesshomaru requested.

Rosuto nodded. "Hai, Sesshomaru-sama." she said as she grabbed Raven's arm and went back inside. "Perfect opportunity for you." Rosuto whispered to Raven.

"Perfect for what?" she asked, not liking the look in Rosuto's eyes, or what Raven thought she was thinking.

"You can take him the clean clothes and talk to him." she said. "Oh, and he is going to need someone to show him to his room." Rosuto said, walking briskly down the hall.

"How do you know what clothes to take him?" she asked, suddenly curious.

"Sesshomaru-sama has some clothes that he has kept that are to small for him. They should fit Inuyasha-san." she said, walking to where she knew the clothes were. She quickly gathered a black silk kimono and then headed for the hot springs, Raven's arm in her hand once again.

On the way to the hot springs, Raven looked quite doubtful. "Tell me again, why do I have to do this?" she asked.

"Because you are the one that likes him." Rosuto told her.

Raven blushed a bit. "Oh, yeah, that." she said, wondering why she had decided to wear the same clothes that she had been wearing when she first showed up here. She held out her hands. "Alright, give me the kimono." she said.

Rosuto grinned and handed her the silk kimono and kept walking. "Just give me his dirty clothes and I'll go take them to the wash room and have a few servants get the room ready." Rosuto told her. Then she leaned a bit closer. "You might as well stay there and take a bath yourself." Rosuto said with a smile.

"What? I just took a bath this morning. I do NOT smell." Raven said indignantly.

"I'm just teasing." Rosuto said.

"I never would have figured you to be so ... so chatty." Raven said. By this time, they had reached the door to the springs and Raven knocked, letting him know that she was there.

A gruff 'come in' came from the other side of the door and Raven slid the door open, stepped in, and closed the door behind her, keeping her eyes averted from him.

"I brought you some clean clothes, Inuyasha-san." Raven said, acting very much like the servant she wasn't. "And I have come to collect your soiled clothing." She heard him grunt in response, so she moved to a bench by the spring he was in and set the clean kimono down on it and then moved to where his dirty clothes were and picked those up, taking them to the door and handing them to Rosuto.

She turned around, still not looking at him, and bowed. "I will also show you to your room when you are finished." she told him.

Inuyasha watched the youkai woman moving about the room. She was acting like a servant, but he could tell from how proud her movements were that she was far from being a servant.

"Who are you?" he asked. "I know you aren't a servant, and I can tell when someone lies to me, so don't bother trying." he told her.

Raven looked up at him, stunned. "You're right, I'm not a servant. But who I am is not important. I am not important." she said.

"I don't buy that. At least tell me your name?" he asked.

"Raven." she said as she sat down on the bench that she had placed the change of clothes for him on.

"It suits you." Inuyasha said thoughtfully. He then fell silent as he sank lower into the water and rested his head on the side of the spring.

Raven looked down at her lap, thinking the conversation was over, not wanting to sit there and stare at his exposed chest.. She was shocked when she heard his voice again.

"Care to join me?" Inuyasha asked, lifting his head to gauge her reaction to the question he had posed to her.

Raven lifted an eyebrow at him, but nodded all the same, willing the blush not to come to her face. She looked at him and saw Inuyasha staring at her as she stood. Then she did blush. She made a small motion with her hand, asking him to turn around until she was in the water. He merely turned his back to her and then dunked himself completely under the water.

Raven quickly undressed and slipped into the water, her arms crossed over her chest. She nearly screamed when Inuyasha popped out of the water right in front of her, facing her.

"Hi." Inuyasha said, a feral grin appearing on his lips.

"Hi." Raven said uncertainly. His closeness was affecting her and that grin was so sexy. She was aware that she was becoming increasingly aroused by his presence.

Inuyasha reached out a hand to cup her cheek and pulled her closer to him. "You know, it's not really smart to become aroused after getting naked and into a hot spring with a male. Especially, one you are already attracted to." Inuyasha said in a low voice.

Raven looked into his eyes. She raised a hand up to cup his cheek. "Who said I was attracted to you?" she asked.

"Well, you aren't in heat, so there is no reason for you to become aroused just by looking at my chest." he told her, slowly snaking an arm around to her back. "And it's even worse when you are around an inu." he said, pulling her body against his.

Raven was slightly shocked by how bold he was being, but was even more shocked by the hardness pressing into her lower stomach. "It's a nice chest." she said, trying to make an excuse, but she couldn't deny the arousal that was building within her body at how he was holding her, how he was talking to her.

"Thank you. I like it, but I think your's is better." he said, glancing down quickly, but looked back up and captured her gaze again.

Raven was feeling dominated, something that she did NOT like. She decided to do something to take some control away from him. She moved swiftly, so fast that he didn't know of her movements until he felt where her hands had settled. Her breasts were pressed firmly to his chest, her left hand was on his firm butt, and her right hand was wrapped around his manhood.

"So you don't like me, huh?" Inuyasha asked, raising an eyebrow.

Raven didn't say anything. Instead, she used her hand on his butt to push his manhood harder into her other hand. Raven moved her hand from his butt to his shoulder and used it to push herself up and firmly took his lips in a kiss. Her eyelids slowly lowered.

Inuyasha used his hand on her back to pull her up and dipped his head down to deepen the kiss, lowering his eye lids. His other hand found it's way around to her behind, massaging the flesh there. Inuyasha felt her lips part and her tongue slowly licked his lower lip. He opened his mouth to allow her tongue in, desperately holding in a moan when her soft tongue brushed along his.

Raven pulled away from his mouth, needing a bit of air, and opened her eyes. She smiled up at him. "What do you know, I do like you." she said, giving his hard shaft a quick squeeze.

Inuyasha had opened his eyes when she pulled away, but they closed of their own accord when she squeezed his member. "Told you." he said, trying to maintain control over the urge to just take her then and there.

Raven remained silent as she wrapped her arms around his waist and hid her face in the crook of his neck. She felt his arms moving around her and holding her close to him.

"We should get dressed, and I should show you to your room." Raven finally spoke up.

Inuyasha nodded and let his arms go slack around her as Raven removed her arms from around him. She stepped back from him, a light blush staining her cheeks. She got out of the springs and grabbed a towel to dry off. Inuyasha followed her out and reached around Raven to grab a towel.

Raven got dressed, trying to ignore the fact that she knew Inuyasha was watching her every move. After she had redressed, she used her towel to get any excess water out of her hair that she could.

Inuyasha looked at the clothes that had been brought for him. He wasn't use to such nice things. The only clothes he could remember ever having was his fire rat kimono. It had grown with him over the years, never being too small for him.

Raven picked up the light inner kimono and walked behind him, slipping it on him, up his arms and let it rest on his shoulders. She reached around his waist for the outer kimono and helped him into it, much the same way as the inner kimono. She let her hands rest on his shoulders, feeling the muscles under hands move every once in a while.

"I'll let you do the rest." Raven said, a blush on her cheeks. "I'll be waiting out in the hallway." she told him and then walked towards the door. She couldn't believe how she was acting around him, having never acted even remotely like she was now. 'Gah, I met him this morning for like five seconds and I was just kissing him.' she thought.

Inuyasha watched her walk out and then slowly finished dressing. 'Why the fuck did I do that?' he thought. He wondered how he could like Raven so soon after what had happened with Kagome. Maybe he never really loved her, but what he felt for her was a residue of what he had felt for Kikyo so many years ago. He knew he loved her as a friend; she had been the first person since his mother had died to accept him as he was, not for what he could be, but for who he was. Even Kikyo had not accepted him so completely.

Inuyasha shook his head, clearing his head of the errant thoughts. He finished tying the last tie on his pants and walked towards the door, putting everything to the back of his head until he had time to think about it later, alone.

Inuyasha walked out the door and looked to his right to see Raven standing there, waiting for him. She bowed to him, not making eye contact, and headed down the hallway to the room that had been prepared for him. Inuyasha silently followed after her, wondering what he should say to her. Raven stopped in front of a door and slid it open, revealing a huge room.

"Is this all for me?" Inuyasha asked her, staring at the room, the silk sheets and curtains, and the detailed wood paneling.

Raven nodded. "This is the room Sesshomaru-sama wanted prepared for you." she told him.

Rosuto walked up to them from behind. "Yes, Sesshomaru-sama specifically asked for this room for you, Inuyasha-san." Rosuto told him. She saw the questioning look Inuyasha sent her way and she bowed a bit. "I am Rosuto, at your service." she said.

Inuyasha nodded, still staring at the large room. "Thank you." he said. "I would like to be left alone." he said, walking into the room a few steps.

Rosuto nodded and left, looking at Raven before she left. Raven stood there for a minute before she turned to leave, but she stopped when she felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned back around to see Inuyasha looking intently at her.

"I am sorry if I was too bold in the hot springs." Inuyasha told her. "Honestly, I don't know why I did that." he said.

Raven nodded. "I'm not sure why I acted the way I did, either." she said, breaking eye contact.

Inuyasha lifted a hand to her chin, bringing her gaze back up to his. "I don't regret it, though." he told her, leaning down and placing a soft kiss on her forehead.

"Neither do I." she said. "I don't think I could regret something that felt so right." Raven told him.

"Good." Inuyasha said. He suddenly realized what he was doing and pulled back just a bit, feeling like he was coming out of a daze. He looked in Raven's eyes and saw that she looked like she, too, was coming out of a daze. "I need to think about some things, though." he said, coming back to his senses. Raven nodded her understanding. "Thank you." he said, dropping his hand and stepped back into the room.

Raven quickly walked off, pondering her behavior around Inuyasha. She shook her head, and went off to find Rosuto, hoping to get her advice, or at least her opinion.

Sesshomaru watched Raven walked off, an eyebrow quirked at what he had seen. He waited a few minutes and then walked to the door to the room Inuyasha was in. He knocked and patiently waited for Inuyasha to respond with an enter. Sesshomaru slid the door open and stepped in, closing the door behind himself.

Inuyasha turned to see Sesshomaru enter the room, and noticed that he actually looked calm, not his usual cold indifference. "Thank you for the room." Inuyasha said as he walked toward a low table to sit down.

Sesshomaru followed his lead, and headed towards the table. "It was not mine to give." Sesshomaru told him. Inuyasha gave him a confused look, so Sesshomaru explained. "This was your room when you were young. It was already yours." he told Inuyasha.

Inuyasha looked at him strangely. "But I left here with my mother when I was young. Very young. How come I have my own room?" he asked, still confused.

"Youkai, and those with youkai blood, age faster than humans when they are young so that they can take care of themselves. Therefore you were capable of having your own room at a very young age." Sesshomaru explained.

"How young?" Inuyasha asked, curious as to how long he'd had his own room and not even know about it.

"I don't remember for certain, but I believe you were about six moons old. Long before Father had died, anyway." Sesshomaru told him. He was actually glad to be holding a civil conversation with his younger brother. He had never done so before. When they were young, Sesshomaru had resented Inuyasha since their Father had immediately mated with the human woman that was Inuyasha's mother after his own mother had died in battle. Then, their Father had died himself and the human woman left, taking the young Inuyasha with her, giving them no time to get to know each other. Not that he would have taken up the opportunity then. After that, Inuyasha had been sealed to that tree by the now undead miko that his mate was the supposed reincarnation of. Then he had been insistant at getting that sword, the sword that he still didn't have in his possession, though he no longer cared for it.

"I guess that was a while ago. I don't even remember him." Inuyasha said sadly. It was true; he knew nothing of his and Sesshomaru's Father. He looked up at Sesshomaru and was shocked that his older brother looked a bit sad, as well.

"There are several scrolls of our family history in the library. I know it isn't the same as knowing him, but it is better than not knowing anything about him." Sesshomaru said. "You probably have much on your mind. I will leave you to your thoughts, though if I were you, I would quickly resolve one matter in particular." Sesshomaru told him, getting up and preparing to leave.

"What is that?" Inuyasha asked absentmindedly as he contemplated a trip to the library later.

Sesshomaru smirked at him a bit. "Raven." was all he said as he walked out the door, closing it so that Inuyasha could have some privacy.

Inuyasha looked up at where he had been, but Sesshomaru had already left. He started to get up, to go after him, and tell him there was nothing that he needed to resolve with her. But even if he wouldn't admit it to others just yet, he knew that he had several things to sort out on that matter alone.

Inuyasha sat at the table for a bit longer, then he stood and moved to a window that over looked a large garden. He recognized it as the one he had entered Kagome's window from, meaning that he room wasn't that far from his own. He looked down at the garden, alarmed, when he heard Shippo shreik. He soon relaxed when he saw that he was merely being chased by Kagome, Sango, Rosuto, and Raven while Miroku was lying on the ground, exhausted, and Jaken was hidding behind Sesshomaru, who had just reentered the garden.

He watched Rin trying to help Shippo get away from the women chasing him, though truth be told, Shippo probably would have been better off without the help, but Kagome and the others were not avidly trying to catch him. He almost laughed when Shippo jumped over Miroku during his flight, but did let a chuckle loose when Sango followed Shippo and got groped by the monk.

Inuyasha thought about joining them, but had his reasons for not doing so until he saw a small smile grace Sesshomaru's lips at Miroku's antics. He figured it would be good for him to take his mind off of his problems for a while and jumped out of the open window, landing beside his brother.

Sesshomaru didn't look to his side when Inuyasha landed there, but kept his eyes on the play taking place deeper within the garden. "I thought you had to sort some issues?" Sesshomaru asked him.

"I do, but, as Kagome would say, all work and no play makes a dull hanyou." Inuyasha said, a goofy grin twisting the corners of his lips up, showing the tip of a fang. With that said, he ran off to join the play.

Sesshomaru pondered the odd saying, thinking that it was probably something from the future. He watched as his brother quickly sped to the front of the group chasing Shippo and made a dive for the young kitsune's tail, missing badly on purpose. Or at least, Sesshomaru hope that it had been done purposely.

After a few more hours of play, they went in for dinner, which passed relatively uneventful. There were the several glances that Inuyasha and Raven stole throughout the dinner, but beyond that, nothing happened. Shippo and Rin fell asleep quickly after they finished eating, curled up in a ball between Kagome and Sango. The young women each picked up a child to put them to bed.

"Preparing for your own, Sango?" Sesshomaru asked, surprising everyone in the room. Sango only held Shippo tighter to her and briskly walked out into the hallway. Kagome merely shot Sesshomaru a look that said they were going to talk later.

Everyone left in the room looked at Sesshomaru, wondering what he had meant. Obviously, Sango would one day have her own family; she wanted to rebuild her village. It was also obvious, that with Miroku as her life mate, they would have no problem repopulating her village. But, why would Sesshomaru say something now.

Sesshomaru stood up from the table and walked out of the room without saying another word. He walked slowly to the room he shared with Kagome, giving her time to get there about the same time as he did. He walked into the room and undressed, leaving only his pants on. He heard the shoji door slid open noisily behind him. Apparently, Kagome already knew he was in there.

"Do you mind telling me what you were talking about earlier?" she asked.

Sesshomaru turned to her, smirking. "What do you think I was talking about?" he asked her.

Kagome glared at him. "Just tell me." she told him.

"She is with child." Sesshomaru said.

Kagome just stared at him in shock. "Are you joking?" she asked him when she could think enough to speak again.

Sesshomaru stepped up to her and wrapped his arms around her and dipped his head down to hers. "This Sesshomaru does not jest." he whispered in her ear, a hint of humor in his voice. His tongue snaked out and traced her outer ear.

Kagome leaned into his embrace, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Yes you do. I've seen you joke around." Kagome said, nuzzling her face into his neck.

"Whatever." he said, using a phrase that he had heard her use on occasion. Sesshomaru pulled her tighter against himself. "I do not wish to think about it for now. You are tired and have to get up in the morning. You should get some rest." he said. He slipped a hand into the obi on her kimono and worked it lose, letting it fall to the floor, leaving her kimono hanging open.

Kagome stepped back from him a bit and shrugged her shoulders, allowing her kimono to slide off and pool around her feet, leaving her body completely exposed to him. She tried to step away from him to get a sleeping kimono, but found that Sesshomaru would not allow her to go.

"Sleep in that." Sesshomar ordered her, holding her closer. "You look divine dressed like that." he told her.

"I'm not wearing anything." Kagome told him as she hugged him closer to her body.

"That's what makes it so great." he told her. He lifted her feet off the ground and walked over to the large bed that occupied a large amount of the room. He laid her down on the bed and crawled in after her. Sesshomaru lied on his back and molded Kagome to his side, drawing a light blanket over them.

Kagome rested her head on his chest, listening to the peaceful rythm of his heartbeat, allowing it to lull her to sleep. She felt his hand on her shoulders, massaging away any and all tension that was there. Just before she drifted to sleep, she felt his lips on the top of her head and heard him whisper something.

"I love you." he whispered to her. Sesshomaru wrapped both of his arms around her protectively, never wanting to let her go. He inhaled deeply, taking comfort from her scent, the purity that it held, with the slight mix of his own scent lacing hers. With the comforting scent still in his lungs, he allowed himself to rest.
