InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Thatnks to You Jaraku ❯ Chapter 1 ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Newborn twins, one male, the other female, both crying for attention. A young girl rejected by all, but her brother. A woman falling in love with a handsome man, and him returning the affection.
A female in her late teens, sat upon a cliff, her face seeming to resemble the woman who fell in love. Her silver hair swam around her, while she looked out to the sea. A large brown dog sat beside her. “ What do you think?” Her voice was soft, matching with how she looked.
As she looked up to the sky, blue eyes glistening, blue crescent placed on her forehead, the dog whimpered. “You're right. We should go.” She got up, and smoothed out her blue and green yutaka. As she walked over to a tree, the dog just watched her.
The teen ran. No one could stop her, not even Mother Nature herself. When she was ten steps away from the edge, the female leaped off, into the darkness of the crashing waves below.
Kagome shot up from where she lay. `It was just a falling dream' she told herself, as she tried to calm her heartbeat.
The priestess looked at her companions. Inuyasha sat in a tree, pretending to sleep, while right below him, Shippou was curled up into a small red ball. Sango was lying across from her awake, but not moving, Kirara on her lap. Miroku sat up against a log, leaning on his staff, looking like he was asleep.
No one seemed to take notice that Kagome had woken up. She decided that it was best to get ready for the day. When she moved to stand up, Sango and Inuyasha seemed to notice her.
“Oh. Good morning!” chimed the demon slayer. Kagome returned the greeting said a `good morning' to her half-demon friend.
As Kagome started to roll up her sleeping bag, Shippou woke up. “I'm hungry” were the first words out of his mouth.
Sango decided to get up, and walk over to a sleeping Miroku. “Get up. Were going to get some fish.” The monk mumbled some incoherent things before he opened his eyes.
“I want to come to!” Shippou cheerfully yelled. At this point, the monk was leaning tiredly on his staff. He slowly followed after the other two.
Kagome started to build a fire. “Inuyasha, could you get me some water?” when there was no response, the priestess looked around. “Inuyasha?” She noticed that he was nowhere to be seen. “Inuyasha…” she said quietly.
A sudden cold rush came thru Kagome. Someone was watching her, or at least something. She slowly, as not to startle anyone, turned around.
White fangs.
That was all she saw, before darting off. She was not going to stop for anything. Her life depended on it.
It seemed like half an hour since she started to run, but in reality it was only about a three minuets. She had jumped over a lot of roots, and with the running it was starting to wear her out.
Finally, she tripped. Kagome slid into the ground with a loud “Oof”.
When the priestess looked up from the ground, she saw feet. Looking higher, she saw white leggings. Even higher, a white yutaka. Higher than that was the face of the girl from her dream.
“You should be more careful.” The girl said, while offering her hand to Kagome. She did not know the demon at all, but there was some weird sense of trust. Kagome took the hand of the other girl. “Have I seen you somewhere? Let me think, I will have it sometime soon, just give me a few minuets.” Somehow Kagome instantly liked this new girl. The demon was out of place in this time, just like her.
“Thank you.” Kagome bowed to the demon.
A bark sounded in the background. The priestess jumped at the sound, and noticed that it was the dog from her dream. He was huge! The brown beast called a dog was larger then Kirara in her true form. While the canine was not as large as some of the creatures Kagome had seen in this time, this dog was the size of a Great Dane, but the bulkiness of a St. Bernard. He had a brown bag tied to his waist, much like a bag that belonged on a horse.
“Yu! I have been looking all over for you, you beastly hound!” The demon laughed at the dog as Kagome jumped away from him. “Oh don't be afraid of him. He looks tough, but he is a giant wimp.” The teen from the future relaxed a little.
“Kagome!” A red flash darted across her vision. “Jaraku! What are you doing here?” Inuyasha pulled out his sword and pointed it at `Jaraku'. She jumped out of the way, silver hair whipping around her head. Yu simply moved behind a tree.
“I just wanted to visit you.” A look of feigned sadness was plastered on Jaraku's face. “Why are you so mad at me? I do not believe I did anything wrong.” Her face had a concentrated look on it.
`So this demon knows Inuyasha. I wonder how.' Kagome looked up at the two demons. Inuyasha had an upset look on his face, like it was his first time fighting Naraku.
“Don't play stupid! Myoga told me what you did!” The half-demon lunged at the other, sword drawn. Jaraku moved out of the way quickly, and whacked Inuyasha in the back of the head when he passed her.
A scowl was placed on the new enemies face. “That flea would not even know! He was never there! Either of the times.” The last sentence Jaraku said to her self. “Why would I willingly kill her? She was the first female companion I had had in a long time.”
`Is she talking about Kikyo?' Kagome watched on in confusion. Her back was pressed up against the tree Yu was hiding behind. The apparently friendly dog placed his nose on her stomach, sniffing it. Without realizing it, she began to pet the large hound.
“You can ask your brother. He knows why it was not me.” When the girl squatted down, Yu ran over to his master. Both brought their heads back and howled. Inuyasha looked dumbfounded, and Kagome was even more confused than before.
Off in the distance, when the dog imitations were done, Kagome, and Inuyasha, both, heard their names being called by the rest of their group. Looking to the direction of the voices, Jaraku stood up. Acting as if nothing happened in the minuets before, she said, “We will pick up on our training, will we not?”
Inuyasha realized he should just drop the fight. “Why? I never learned anything from you.” He started to walk to the campground.
“Those with Holy powers, will cause problems for those of demonic nature, whether it is of their intentions or not.” Is all the demon said as she moved over to Kagome. “No offence.”
“None taken.” Was the response.
All four walked off to the direction of the rest of the group. Inuyasha seemed peeved that this girl was following them, but said nothing. It took about two minuets, until Sango and Miroku were in sight.
The two humans ran the rest of the distance. Kirara and Shippou were right behind them. The two demons both hid behind the humans they ran with. It was if they were scared of the new members.
“Kagome! Where were you?” Shippou quickly ran to her, jumping into her arms.
She held him with as much affection as possible. “I'm sorry Shippou. I just got scared for a while, and ran off.” Kagome pondered for a minuet, “Inuyasha, Where did you go?” All three humans looked to Jaraku, when she started to wave at them.
“I was trying to find Her!” The half demon said, pointing to the female called Jaraku.
By this point, Miroku would of asked her to bear his children, but a lot has happened since the defeat of Naraku. Sango and him were married, but because they lacked money and a home, they had to save up. Which was why they still traveled with their old group. Kohaku had to stay with a village, because they both thought that it would be too difficult for him. Sango and Miroku would visit him every couple of weeks, and stay for a few days.
“Who is that?” Shippou asked.
“Ahhhh. Please excuse me. I am Jaraku. This is my faithful companion, Yu.” She bowed to show her respect. She turned to Inuyasha, “I think I shall join your little group. It seems…” she waited for a few seconds, searching for the right word. “interesting.”
“I thought that that was already established.” Inuyasha had to snidely remark. Kagome looked at him, giving him a look, that he should be nice.
Whatever problem there was between Inuyasha and Jaraku, seemed to be causing him to not trust her. While the female acted as if it did not affect her at all.
The rest of the day went by slowly. After they went to the campsite, Jaraku suddenly started to pack stuff into the sacks on Yu's back. She even placed Kagome's backpack in one of them. It felt like it was impossible to do so, and when the teen from the future asked about it, her only response was that the bags had spells on them.
They left after a quick breakfast of fish. Jaraku rode on her furry companion, Sango and Miroku walked next to each other, with Kirara on the demon-slayer's shoulder. Inuyasha was at the lead of the group, Kagome and Shippou slightly behind them.
“So…” Kagome started, when she saw Jaraku in the corner of her eyes. The priestess wanted to get to know the demon, if she was going to stay with them. “where do come from?” The demon looked at her with a delighted face, and Inuyasha seemed annoyed.
“Depends. I was born and raised here, but I kind of grew up all over the world. But this is my favorite place to visit.” The last sentence, Jaraku had a sad smile on her. “I love this place. No matter what, I am so going to die here!” She went back to being happy.
“Do you want to die?” Kagome was now interested. `Why would someone so young want to talk about death already?'
“I was just saying. I really meant nothing by it. My father died in these lands known as Japan.” Again that sad look graced her face.
The group took a small rest. Not long after they started to walk, did the new demon run off. Inuyasha said that Jaraku would be back, only because she left her `special friend' behind.
It was just after they started to set up camp for the night, did Jaraku appear. Her clothes were slightly muddy, and so was her face.
When she sat down on the outskirts of the camp, Yu went up to her and sat down. Stale rice and berries were passed to the demon, but she refused. Jaraku pulled out a bowl, and some plants from Yu's pack, and began grinding them together.
A tensed silence was broken by Sango. “What clan are you from?” It seemed like Kagome was not the only one interested in the new silver haired companion.
“I do not belong in just one. I am a member to several of them.” She did not look up from her work.
`Well that helped much' Kagome thought to her self. `She does not seem to be one to talk' When Jaraku bit into her wrist, Kagome was officially freaked.
The red liquid dripped down the sides of her mouth, as the demon placed her bleeding wrist over the bowl she was working with. Quickly she started to mix the contents together.
All except Kagome ignored Jaraku. It was if this was a normal thing for a demon to do. `What is she doing?'
As if he was reading her mind Miroku asked, “Who's body are you going to regenerate?”
A sly smile slid across the females face. “You'll see.”
“Regenerate?” Kagome questioned.
“If a demon loses a limb, there is a potion that can be used to re-grow it. The-“ he was cut off by Jaraku.
“The only problem is that you need the blood of another, more powerful demon to make the potion work.” She still would not look up from what she was doing and it was starting to drive Kagome insane. Even if she felt like she could trust this demon, Kagome was going to keep a lidded eye on Jaraku.
Inuyasha quickly popped up from looking into the fire that they had built. Pure terror was on his face. “He's not coming, is he?” That same smile came back to the females face.
“Yes.” She had finally brought her face up, and looked to the woods. “He is after all, already here.”
A glow came from the trees. Slowly the figure of a man appeared, but no one could see his features. `Wait a minuet. I know those clothes. No it can't be.' The figure stopped right on the edge of the campsite. “Sesshoumaru” The priestess murmured.
He took no heed in the teen. His eyes were locked on Jaraku. After a few seconds, his golden orbs moved to his brother. “Why do you bother to travel with those below you? I thought that you two were upset at each other.” His voice was quite, but everyone heard him. Like it demanded attention.
Ah-Un was in the background, leaded by Jaken. Rin was on top of the beast. Yu ran over to the creature, and barked happily. The small human got down, and moved to stand by the small imp.
“Forgive and forget!” Inuyasha growled at Jaraku's words. “Now then, sit down!” she got up with her bowl, and moved closer to Sesshoumaru. Surprisingly, the demon lord complied. “Drink.” Jaraku handed him the bowl. Again he did as he was told. The blood on Jaraku's face was starting to harden, so she wiped it on her sleeve.
When he was done, Sesshoumaru handed the bowl back to Jaraku. Rin moved over to Kagome. “How have you been?” She asked the younger girl. The two rarely interacted with each other, and it was a shame, because they enjoyed the other's company.
“I have been doing well. I have missed you, and Sango and Miroku, and Shippou.” `Not Inuyasha' Kagome laughed inertly. Rin's unknown antics were funny, and would usually cheer up anyone.
“I'll be back in a couple hours.” Jaraku got up, and Sesshoumaru went after her.
“Rin. Jaken. Stay here.” The two demons walked off into the darkness of the woods.
“Inuyasha,” when Kagome got the attention of the half-demon, she continued. “How do you know her?”
“How does a demon not know her?” A small voice came off of Kagome's shoulder. It was Myoga. She was not surprised to see him there. “Lady Jaraku is well known in the demon world. Lord Inuyasha most defiantly knows her because she was-“ The flea was cut off by a growl from his lord. “Well I guess that is another story for another night. Preferably when Master Inuyasha is not around.” The last part he said was a whisper, not to let Inuyasha know. Not like it would help.
Surprisingly, Inuyasha did nothing. He merely jumped up into a tree for the night. Sango and Miroku slept next to each other, without touching. Sango still wanted her space. Ah-Un curled around Yu, and he did the same to Kirara. Very touching. Rin rested against Kagome, as Shippou lay in the older girl's lap.
Even though the camp was quite, on most of the people's minds, were `Who is Jaraku?'

Two men, demons, paced around a pond, waiting. Everytime a servant would catch one of their eyes, they would hurry to finish their work. “Brother,” the older one spoke, his silver hair shifting slightly as he stopped. “Do not worry over her. She will make it. I know this.”

The younger of the two stopped, and looked disappointed. “We both know that she won't, so don't try to cheer me up. I will just be lucky if the child makes it.” He continued to walk, not looking at his brother.

“You would just be lucky if you made it.” A laughing voice of a woman in her late thirties brought attention to her. An older boy, a hanyou stood behind her. The two brothers growled at the woman. Not many liked her, and even her own children were scared. That was probably why the younger brothers mate always hid when she showed her pristine face.

“Mizo. What are you doing here?” The older brother asked with a hiss in his voice. At this point the boy had run off, not liking where this was going. The woman said nothing, merely walked towards the castle. “You can't-” He was stopped by a powerful blast.

Kagome woke with a jolt. `What's with the strange dreams lately?' She glanced around, noticing that it was not like any other morning. No one was around. `Where are they?' Getting up, Kagome walked over to where she heard voices further in the woods, figuring that it was probably her friends.

Walking into a slight clearing, a river near the edge of the forest, Kagome noticed that Shippou and Rin were playing in the water, with Sango and Miroku watching them. A little up river was Sesshoumaru, sitting on a boulder, like he owned it.

Without realizing it, Kagome walked over to him, and before she could stop herself, she asked “Why are you here?” Sesshoumaru just looked at her from the corner of his eye, and said nothing.

Kagome started to move her fingers in nervousness. She wanted to know his answer, but was afraid that he would at least strike her for her boldness. “Move”. That was his only response, before he got up and walked away.

“Wha?” quickly she moved back to the edge of the woods. Having her back to the river, Kagome heard a splash, and felt a small amount of water hit her back. Turning around, Kagome saw Jaraku in the water, red drifting around her, like when adding dye to milk.

“That was the most disturbing thing, since I saw your face!” Inuyasha moved from the woods, walking towards the river. He was carrying a dead boar in his left arm. Rin and Shippou ran over to him and grabbed the animal. “I don't think I ever want to see you eat again.” His face had a bluish tint to it, probably from a lack of oxygen. Whatever Jaraku did made him sick.

“That was nothing! You should see me at a festival!” The female demon said with cheer in her voice, completely ignoring the insult thrown at her. “One time I ate an entire cow in one minute. Raw! Mmmmm…” She seemed to be in her own world, as she twirled around the water. Lucky for her, Jaraku was wearing a red yutaka, instead of the white yesterday.

A soft cough came from Sesshoumaru, who some how came to stand beside Kagome. She could hear Sango and Miroku talking to the young ones, while Kirara and Yu were playing some odd game. `They all seem so happy'. When he eyes landed on Inuyasha and Jaraku, they were fighting about something to do with Inuyasha being wet, and even though she was in the water, Jaraku being dry.

“Its cuz I control water, stupid!” The female said, splashing water towards the hanyou. A sarcastic look was on her face. “You, my fine friend, are really stupid. It's my outfit. It does not get wet. Right Sesshoumaru?” the demon lord made another soft cough, and then left the scene. “Neeeh! He's stupid to!” Jaraku got out of the water, and shook herself off, even though she was not wet.

Shippou and Rin ran over to Kagome with the boar, and several fish. “Kagome! Look! We can have a big breakfast!” Shippou said to his friend. The teen just responded with a smile.

“Where's Jaken?” She asked, now realizing that he was not there. Both children responded with a shrug of their shoulders.

^_^

It was late into the morning, when the group had left the campsite. Sesshoumaru and Jaraku were in the front. The female would talk in some language unknown to humans, while the demon lord would respond with a few words, usually a yes or a no. Inuyasha was behind them slightly, sulking about having the two in front of him there. Kagome was chatting with the two children, mainly children's games, and how to play them. Yu seemed content walking beside Sango, who had Kirara in her arms. Miroku was talking to the demon slayer about how much more money they had to save, until they could rebuild Sango's village.

The shaking of the ground seemed to through the odd group off balance. The two adult demons stood still, the only clue that they felt the ground moving, was the fact that they stopped. Inuyasha pulled out Tetsusaiga, growling. Everyone else got ready to fight.

Five Bulls, the size of a large hill each, came charging towards the group. The largest was at the front. A wild look came to his eyes, as they rested on Kagome. On mere instinct, the priestess placed her hand on the completed Sikon no Tama. The task to complete the jewel had been a hard one, but the group had pulled through. Fighting these demons would be a walk in the park.

Inuyasha attacked at the same time as the lead bull. The bull flipped the hanyou into the air, making him land on another bull's back. The other bull started to buck him, making him look like a bull rider at a rodeo. The other three bulls started to attack, while the leader still had his eyes on Kagome.

The teen tried to protect the children, as the lead bull charged. `This is it! I'm going to die!' Closing her eyes, Kagome fell down. When no pain came, she opened her eyes. In front of her was a glorious sight. A Large silver dog, not much bigger than the bulls, was shredding up the creatures. `Is that Sesshoumaru?' The first bull was down.

Kagome looked, as she saw a second bull come down, just a second later, and it was not from the dog. Sesshoumaru stood, as the large creature fell. A third fell, Sango and Miroku defeating it. Inuyasha was still being bucked, but he managed to stab the creature with his sword.

As the large dog turned around, Kagome saw that it had strange black markings on its hind right leg. It charged at the last bull, tearing it into pieces, and eating it. `That's so gross!' The priestess thought. Then, the animal turned towards the scattered group, growling. Suddenly it collapsed, turning into an orb of light, before it touched the ground.

Running over to see if the dog was all right, Kagome was not surprised to see Jaraku lying in a heap of her self. If possible, her silver hair was longer and fanned around her nude body. The markings that were on the dog were located on the same spot on her right leg. Several scars draped across the sides of her stomach. Jaraku was very thin almost sickly so.

As if out of nowhere, Sesshoumaru picked her up, and walked off. “Come” was all he said, before walking off, Yu at his heal.

^_^

Jaraku was lying on her back, her right arm swaying, as if conducting music. Her eyes were only half open, looking to the sky. All in all, she looked dull. That's what worried Kagome.

For the two days that they had known each other, Kagome noticed that Jaraku always had a shine in her blue eyes, much like a child would. You could say that the demon was a child, except for the fact that she looked to be around seventeen summers.

“Kagome” The girl turned to Sango, who was crouched behind her. “Lets go take a bath. I'm sure the demon will be fine.” The demon slayer was pissed at Jaraku, because it took both human girls an hour to get the demon dressed. She would swipe her claws if anyone got too close. Neither girl was left unscratched.

It took a couple of minuets to walk to the hot springs, but it was well worth it. After washing themselves in silence, Kagome spoke. “How do you think Inuyasha and Jaraku met? Myoga never finished telling us.”

The demon slayer thought for a moment, “Its normal for demons to travel around. Inuyasha probably ran into her a few times, and maybe they traveled with each other for a while.” Sango tried really hard to make it not sound like the demons were love interests.

Slipping on her clothes, Kagome said, “Yeah that does make sense,” `But why would she have Sesshoumaru come with us? I can tell he is only here because of her.' Walking back to the campsite, the found the female of their conversation dancing around with a bundle of flowers in her hands. It was wrapped up in some type of cloth that looked a lot like fur.

“You shouldn't be up.” Kagome said. Everyone looked at the two girls as they walked into camp. “You need to get your rest.” The priestess was tired from the earlier attacks, and was not in the mood to calm the dancing demon. Jaken seemed upset at the girl moving around as well. `He must of gotten the flowers. Kind of creepy.'

The said demon walked over to them. “Look! Aren't these pretty?” she showed the other girls the flowers, and Rin came running to look. “They are called Demon's Hair.” They seemed like they came from the moon. A deep green stem held the white petals together. “They are probably the most rare flower in the world.”

`I have never heard of them' Kagome thought to herself.

“When a demon cuts their hair and plants it, the flower will arise.” She held the bundle delicately as Jaraku showed Rin what they looked like. “Touch it.” Rin did as asked, but nothing happened. The child kept her hand on the flowers as Jaraku moved to touch them. Rin screamed out in pain. Quickly, Kagome grabbed the young one and held out her hand to look at the damage.

Everyone was tense, even more so because Jaraku had a smirk on her face. “When a demon touches the flower, everything touching the plant gets purified, even if they are not demonic.” The demon crouched down to be face leveled with the child. “Let me see your hand. I promise I won't hurt you.” Rin moved to get closer to Kagome, wanting nothing to do with the other female.

“What are you trying to pull?” Sango yelled.

Sesshoumaru was suddenly behind the demon girl. “Her word is honest. She never breaks a promise.”

Jaraku looked up at him and frowned. “You're not going to break your promise, are you?” The demon lord walked off into the woods. As soon as he was gone a “Jerk” was heard. “I know!” Jaraku said quite loudly. She ran over to Yu, who was currently lying by a tree, close to the fire of the camp. She went into the pack that had never left his back, and pulled out something silver.

Jaraku walked in the direction that Sesshoumaru left, but when she went by Rin and Kagome she stopped. The demon kept on looking at the woods, then back at Rin. “Priestess.” A growl was heard from Inuyasha. “Will you take this to Sesshoumaru. I will take care of the girl. I will not break my promise, and if I did I will let you kill me.” Her words seemed to have a numb affect on Kagome.

Would she go after the demon lord? The one who tried to kill her several times? `Maybe he won't try to hurt me' the girl gave a shrug. “Why not?”

“Kagome! Why are you going to do something for that stupid demon?” Inuyasha ran over to the small group of women.

“She has done nothing to prove me falsely.” Kagome said with eyes closed, as if informing him like she would a child. She knew he was trying to protect her, but she could do some things on her own.

She grabbed the silver object, which turned out to be a necklace. Stomping off, she heard the half demon following. “Sit” she muttered under her breath. A crash and a few yells were heard, as she headed off into the woods. Really, sometimes Inuyasha could be such a pain.

Walking around for a few minuets got Kagome lost. Honestly, the girl had paid attention to the necklace that she had to deliver. It was unique. A silver dog howled at a silver moon. The dog's eyes seemed to have rubies in them.

“What are you doing here?” a masculine voice from behind her asked. Turning around she was face to face with the man she was looking for.

“She asked me to give you this.” Kagome handed him the neckpiece. He snatched it from her. “Your welcome” The girl huffed. She would have walked back to camp, but she was lost.

“Why do you follow him?” Sesshoumaru asked.

Turning her head, so she was looking into his golden eyes, Kagome spoke. “He is like my family. I would do anything for him.” Calm? For the most part. A more serious look came from the demon. “I am sorry if I offended you, but I do care for him like that. That does not mean that I care for you the same way.”

“Do you love him?” Panic seized her face. There was a time when Kagome would have said yes, but much has happened to both of them to lose their love interest in each other. “You do not have to answer. I do not care.”

Relief flooded her eyes. “Thank you.” Waiting. Waiting. Waiting. “Um… Sesshoumaru? Do you think you could take me back to the camp? I kind of lost my way.” The demon Lord made a movement, telling her to follow.

^_^

When they reached the camp, Inuyasha stared at the two with a disapproving look. Everyone else seemed to be asleep. Jaraku had the two children on her lap, and all three of them were snoring softly. It looked cute, but not as adorable as Sango and Miroku lying against a tree. Quietly, Kagome laid down by the fire, and drifted into the darkness of the night.
