Miles away from where the group had split, an evil laughter rang through the dark headquarters of Naraku. “Finally! With this the world shall be mine!”

Kagome and Shippo moved quickly through the forest of the Valley of Light. Kagome was leading them on a feeling. Ever since that dream she had felt a need to go in a certain direction. Knowing Inuyasha would be where she felt she needed to go, she moved with determination with Shippo close behind.

Suddenly she stopped as a chill overtook her body. “What?! He's still alive?!” She cried out spinning around. Shippo stopped just before he ran into her and stood still.

“You don't mean Kouga?” He whispered fearfully.

Kagome nodded. `But… something's odd.' She looked off in the direction she felt the pulse of Muramasa. “It's him but… He's going in the wrong direction. Shouldn't he be able to scent me out?”

Shippo looked thoughtful for a moment before an idea came to mind. “Actually I haven't been able to smell very well either ever since we got to this place. I can barely make you out and you're in front of me.”

“Maybe in this valley demonic abilities are dulled? He sure isn't heading anywhere near me.” She said her head following the signal. “Well it doesn't matter, I'll take whatever advantage we can get but let's hurry and find Inuyasha to be sure!”

She took off and Shippo followed her. “But even if we find Inuyasha, what can he do against Kouga?” He asked.

Kagome was silent for a moment. “He'll win next time.” She said suddenly. “Kouga can't beat him again.” Shippo was taken aback by the determined faith she had in her voice.

“You're right! He needs our support!” He cried and changed his features to look just as determined. “Now let's find him!”

Miroku stood outside Kagome's tent going over how he would apologize and explain everything to her. `This will be fine. I mean, I just left my best friend to die, how much could she despise me?'

He sighed as Sango approached him. “Come on already, you're going to have to coexist with her as long as we travel together. Might as well give it a shot.” She said.

Miroku nodded and with a deep breath entered the tent. Sango smiled at the theatrics and decided she would listen in. Just in case the monk needed a rescue.

Miroku emerged a moment later with an odd smile on his face. “Well that was easy enough. Don't know what I was worried about.”

Sango raised an eyebrow. “What happened?”

“She's not there!” Miroku said smiling. “Just when I thought things were looking up—”

“What?!” Sango roared. “We have to find her!” She said and began to drag him off into the forest.

Miroku sighed. `Inuyasha, you sure picked a great time to leave us.' He thought sadly.

He woke to the sounds of running water. `Fuck.' He thought as he slowly opened his eyes. `What the—?' He was floating he was pretty sure of that. However none of his senses were working very well and he could only make out blurs with his vision.

From the bright light above him, he saw he was outside. How he got in the river was anyone's guess. `How did I get here?' Images flooded back to him and he half-grinned. “Hell was I not thinking straight.” He coughed out pleased to find he could still talk to some degree.

`I lit the explosive and shoved in wolf-boy's mouth,' a grin came across his face at the thought. `Then I was blown backwards into a wall and blacked out… could I have gone over the cliff?'

He tried to move next but found it wasn't going to work. He could feel several broken bones and the sword's corruption still in his body. It was a miracle he's even alive. His eyes turned to the water he was floating in.

`There must've been a river underground. Hope wolf-breath sunk.' He felt himself stop and could feel sand on his back. He had hit shore. With a mighty groan he turned over onto his stomach and began to crawl onto shore.

He made it a few feet before collapsing. `Close one, I thought I was dead. My life flashed before my eyes.' He grimaced at the memories that he had seen so vividly. It was like he was back there with his mother.

He looked back at the river he had crawled out of. “What the hell?” He muttered. The river he had been floating in was glowing and not from sunlight. The glow was under the river almost as if the water was… “Pure.”

He chuckled. That explained his still being alive. Muramasa's corruption couldn't do anything in the pure waters. “Oh shit.” It couldn't do anything in the water but out of the water...

To reaffirm his suspicions, his wounds pulsed and he cried out in pain. `Great, I come this far and end up killing myself by accident!' He thought ruefully. They throbbed and he gritted his teeth together holding in the yell.

His ears perked up. `Someone's coming?' He thought and a familiar scent hit his nose. “Kagome?” He whispered as he picked his head off the ground.

“Inuyasha!” Shippo leapt into the clearing and landed next to him giving him a big hug. “You're alive! I thought you were dead and it was all my fault!” He began to sob wildly. Inuyasha was about to spend his last bit of energy to thump the crying kit but stopped as Kagome stepped out of the brush and looked down at him.

She was frozen still, tears streaming down her face. “Inuyasha?” She whispered.

He grinned as he painfully got into a sitting position, Shippo hanging from his neck. “Hey Kagome, I see you managed to get out of there in one piece after all.” He grinned. She smiled wide and charged him falling to her knees and hugging him tightly knocking him over.

“It's really you. You're really alive!” She began sobbing wildly.

Inuyasha was overcome with the two distressed people hanging off him. “Come on let me breathe already!” He complained as they hugged him tight. “You're going to kill me if you keep—” He was cut off with a surge of pain in his side.

Kagome pulled away with a quick apology before the colour in her face drained. She was looking at his midsection, discoloured and pulsating. “Oh my God…” She whispered before beginning to tear his shirt open.

“Hey! What do you think you're doing?!” Inuyasha cried blushing slightly but stopped when another surge of pain hit him. Kagome took a deep breath and placed her hands on his body. A pink aura filled the area as the colour of his body began to return to normal.

Inuyasha relaxed slightly as the nice feeling overtook him. He could feel his wounds healing and bones reforming themselves. `She must be amplifying my powers to heal me. Didn't know she was that useful' He though pleasantly. Then suddenly he felt his claws retracting. “Shit!” He cried as his hair turned dark.

Shippo cried out, “Inuyasha! You're human!”

Kagome looked up at him and smiled apologetically. “Sorry, looks like I overdid things a bit.”

He bristled with fury. “What do you mean `a bit'?! You purified me! What the hell did you do that for?!” Then to both his and Shippo's surprise, she bowed her head.

“Sorry.” She sobbed. “I can't do anything right, it's my fault you're like this. It's my fault you almost died. It's my fault Kouga's after you. Everything is all my fault.”

Inuyasha's anger evaporated in an instant. “Come on now don't cry. What the hell are you beating yourself up for? You didn't do anything!” His voice began to rise in panic.

“Yes I did. It's all because I'm with you that you keep getting into trouble. If I wasn't with you then you'd be—”

“If you weren't with me, I'd be dead by now!” He roared cutting her off. A silence fell over the three. Inuyasha took a deep breath before continuing. “You found me a while back mortally wounded. You helped me live.”

“I didn't really do anything…” Kagome protested.

“Then you helped get me out of the cell in the castle.” He continued ignoring her.

“Well that was more Shippo than me…”

“And if that wasn't enough you have never, ever said anything about my race or history!” He said with finality. “Don't ever say you're useless.”

Kagome was dumbstruck. “Inuyasha… this is the first time you've ever said anything nice about me…”

Inuyasha snorted. “It's probably because I'm human, don't expect this that often.” He grumbled.

Without warning Kagome embraced him in a full blown hug. “Please don't ever do anything that stupid again.” She sobbed and this time Inuyasha made no move to stop her.

After a moment, Inuyasha spoke, “Come on Kagome; let's go back to the others. We'll get the sword of light after I get my strength back.”

Kagome pulled away. “No we can't wait!” Inuyasha looked at her strangely. “Kouga's still alive!”

Inuyasha was silent for a moment before his face became contorted with rage. “No fucking way!” He roared. “How the hell did he survive that blast!?” He stood up and began to sniff the air before remembering he was human.

“It's no use.” Shippo piped up having recovered from the shock of the unusual actions of his friends. “Even if you were half-demon again you couldn't smell anything. I can't smell anything inside this valley and Kagome said neither could Kouga.”

“That's right, I can still feel him but he can't find me.” Kagome said.

Inuyasha was silent for a moment and looked around the skies before deciding. “Kagome, you're coming with me to that mountain.” He said pointing to a tall mountain a distance off. “That's where the sword is.”

Kagome looked confused. “How do you know that?” She asked.

He motioned to the water. The corruption of Muramasa didn't affect me in there. The water's pure and is flowing from that mountain.” He explained.

Kagome nodded and Shippo asked, “What about me?”

Inuyasha looked at him. “You go find Sango and Miroku and get them to head to the same place.” He said. “We'll meet up there and get the sword. Then we'll deal with Kouga.” Shippo nodded and took off in the direction of the camp.

Kagome looked at Inuyasha. “Looks like you're more level headed when you're human too.” She said with a smile.

“Silly girl.” He muttered and the two left for the shrine of light.

Miles away, Naraku stood outside his headquarters looking over his vast army of demons. None of them moved and the evil that emanated from them was thick. He grinned maliciously. “My children!”

Not one of them moved. “All of you have been given a great gift! I bid you now, go and use it! Go to the valley of light and help the one who holds the true sword.” He smirked. “Kill any who stand in your way!” The army turned as one and began to march in perfect synchronization, a gleaming purple sword at each of their waists…
