Chapter 25
Changing Tides: Low Tide
Kagome smiled happily at the taste of strawberry in her mouth. She stifled a yawn, but knew she wasn't going to get any more sleep. It was past dawn, and her husband wanted to play. "You know," she started as she struggled to open her eyes, "I won't be able to keep this pace when I'm working." She warned.
"Then let's make the most of these next two weeks." He suggested as she rubbed her tired eyes. "We'll just have to catch up on the weekends." He smirked when he saw her eyes open fully.
"You do remember that I have to get up early Saturdays to help at the Shrine." He growled displeased as he lowered his head to nurse his mark.
"That still leaves Sundays." She sighed, feeling the familiar tension building in her lower abdomen. "You don't need to go every Saturday, do you?"
"Yes." She answered in a gasp as he moved down towards her collarbone.
"I'm sure you could make exceptions, once in a while." He insisted as he moved down to tease one of her breasts. Her moan was cut short by the sound of the telephone ringing. "What the fuck do you want?" He growled into the receiver. "Rin…" All anger left his body as he mentally berated himself for cursing in front of the young girl. "I don't get what you're worried about. He told you he was going on a trip. Your father isn't the type of man to change his mind."
Kagome took her husband's distraction to move from the bed. He grabbed her arm and mouthed, "Where are you going?"
"Bathroom," she mouthed back.
"What does Kagura have to do with anything?" Inu Yasha suddenly turned his attention back to the phone. She didn't bother to look for clothes as she made her way to the luxurious lavatory. He kept his eyes and ears focused on her at all times, growling when she closed the door behind her. "Wait, your father said he was going to marry Yura?" Inu Yasha relaxed as the girl explained the situation. "So you lied to Kagura. You set her up, so she would end up alone in the middle of the woods with your father, and now you are worried because neither has called home." Hearing the toilet flush and the sink's water begin to run, he decided he had a few more minutes for his niece. "You are aware that if your plan worked, they will both be too tired from…'talking' things out to call home, and if it backfired, neither is too happy with you at the moment." Inu Yasha's ears moved to detect the sound of the shower running.
"Listen sweetheart, if you haven't been skinned alive yet, you're in on the clear. Go to bed. They won't come home until they're done with their 'conversation', and Rin…don't dare to interrupt my honeymoon again!" He said firmly before hanging up and racing to the bathroom. There was no way that his woman was going to bathe without him. What kind of inu youkai did she take him for?
Inu Yasha quietly entered the bathroom, the black marble floor cooling his feet. The room was large, but narrowed. The toilet, matching black marble sink, shower and Jacuzzi were lined up against the front wall. He made his way towards the cream-colored hotel-logo-shower curtain cautiously. Making sure not to make a sound, he grabbed the edge of the curtain and pulled it open.
"What the fuck?" He demanded as he found the shower running, but without anyone bathing.
"Lose something?" He heard his wife's mirthful voice coming from the other end of the room. He approached the Jacuzzi with a look of annoyance on his face.
"That wasn't nice!"
"Most jokes aren't." She teased from the bubble filled bath. "I was showering, but then I saw that the bath had already been drawn…I think we were suppose to use it last night, since the water is a bit cold, but good." Growing bolder and more confident in her seductive powers, she leaned back in the ebony tub, and asked, "Care to join me? There's more than enough room for two."
He gave her his famous smirk as he descended into the tub. "Thought you'd never ask."

Sesshomaru rested tensely as he softly ran his fingers through his mate's hair. Although he had spent every morning for the past six years wishing to wake up like this, now that it had happened, he was worried about the consequences. Kagura had always been a different woman in the morning. She constantly had a tough front to mask her true feelings, and when she did cave, she crumbled. Add a full night of sleep, and it usually ended with a morning full of regrets and uncertainties. Even that first morning, she had woken up with doubts about his intentions. Hopefully, this morning she wouldn't have any qualms.
Though mating was the highest form of union, the law didn't recognize it. He would have to marry her and soon. The thought made him smile. Kagura would be easier to pamper than Kagome. She loved the more expensive Christian-style weddings, and she would want the five kimonos and the huge feast. He would enjoy granting all her requests. They would need more time to plan the wedding, but he was sure if they hired a wedding planner, they could do pull it off in three months. In the mean time, she would have to move into the house. He wouldn't have her sleeping anywhere else besides his bed. Besides, hers was too small, hence why they ended up on the floor the last time they had been together. He was also aware that her moving in would mean that she would redecorate the entire house, starting with his room. She wouldn't survive in a light-less room for long. He could to deal with it, as long as she didn't pick pink curtains. That he would never go for.
Kagura yawned and stretched against his body; he tightened his hold on her. She looked up and blushed at his intense gaze. He was examining every movement, every reaction, intensely. She seemed a bit disoriented as she looked around the cabin and then back at him, at his neck. Sesshomaru hissed in pleasure as she traced her mark on his neck. "I was afraid it had been a dream." She confessed.
"I didn't dare go to sleep." He admitted.
"Did we do the right thing?"
"Do you have regrets?" His voice was strained with worry and reproach.
"No-I meant…the timing. We didn't rush thing, did we?" She looked at him with worry.
"Do you love me?"
"Yes."
"Do you know I love you?"
"Yes." She blushed and lowered her gaze embarrassedly.
"Are you willing to make this work?"
"Yes." She said firmly.
"Then, I think six years isn't rushing it. It's about damn time." He smiled as she relaxed into his arms.
"Sesshomaru…we have a problem."
"We can arrange the wedding of your dreams in three months." He answered as he absently traced the mark on her back.
"No-well, we could, but that's not the problem." She waited until he turned to her. "Rin lied to me."
"She's been obsessed with you becoming her mother for some time, now."
"What scares me is that I couldn't tell she was lying…"
"What are you getting at?" He asked concerned.
"What else has she done to push us together?" She raised her head to settle herself on his chest. "How many times has she arranged situations for us to be alone?"
"A few, I would guess…"
"Let's face it Sesshomaru, we've raised that girl too much like a youkai."
"Remind me to have a long talk with her when we get back… The last thing I need is another Keiji running around."
"Speaking about getting back…"
"You may redo the bedroom, as long as it's tasteful." He finished as she gave him an annoyed look.
"I have nothing but taste, and that room needs a splash of color and light, starting with nice curtains…something bright and happy. What do you think of pink?" Sesshomaru growled as he pinned his mate below him.
"No pink."
"And if I refuse?" She asked with a seductive smile. He smirked as he descended above her, ready to move in for the kill.

It was mid-afternoon when Souta arrived at the Western Lord's estate. It had been pouring by then. He hadn't planned on returning so soon, but Rin had sounded quite upset on the phone. He had dressed casually, but nice. He was still conscious of her father's dislike of him.
Souta didn't have to wait long until the green toad opened the door for him. Removing his dirty winter shoes and wet coat, he inquired on his girlfriend's whereabouts.
"She is in the Lord's study." The toad answered, giving him a distasteful look.
"And the Lord?" Surprise was evident in the young man's voice.
"On leave, but don't even think of overstepping your boundaries, human. Sesshomaru-sama has left me in charge, and I will make absolutely sure you do not disrespect Rin in any way!" Jaken threatened.
"Don't harass my friends!" Rin protested as she stepped into the Main Hall. She had heard voices, and had hoped it had been her father. Souta turned to see the dark circles under his girlfriend's eyes, and the careless way she had dressed.
"Rin, what's wrong." She led him into her father's office as she explained the situation.
"That was last night. I haven't heard from either of them since."
"Have you tried their cell phones?"
"Kagura probably forgot hers because it rings, but no one answers…Dad's is off or out of service." She explained. Souta moved towards her, wrapping his arms around her smaller frame, and kissed her temple.
"I'm sure they're fine. Your dad is a tough man. I don't think even Mother Nature can knock him out. Didn't he say he was going to that cabin?"
"Yeah."
"Kagome said that it had terrible reception up there." He lied, but it made her relax. "He probably can't reach you."
"Are you sure?"
"They do say that bad news travels fast." He encouraged, hugging her tightly.
"I should have never meddled in their affairs!" She berated herself.
"I'm glad you see your mistake!" Rin looked up to see her father entering the room. She smiled happily and rushed to hug him.
"I'm sorry, but I was desperate." She looked around and failed to see the other woman. "I guess it didn't work."
"It made matters worse." Sesshomaru explained, keeping his tone low, but firm. "Kagura and I have decided that for everyone's benefit, we shall no longer have any relationship of any kind, including business."
"No…" Rin gasped, tears forming on the edge of her eyes.
"Don't worry. You two can still have a relationship, as long as it doesn't involve me."
"But…"
"That's not all. Because of your little prank, Yura is now convinced that I want to marry her, and unfortunately, I'm in a position where I must honor her request." Rin felt the ground fall beneath her feet. Her entire world had shattered in a matter of seconds. Her lungs burned as she forgot how to breathe.
"Now, do you see how horribly wrong things could have gone with your meddling?" He asked, no longer standing the look of pain on his daughter's face, but she had needed a good punishment.
"Could have?" She suddenly looked up confused as she heard Kagura's voice in the background.
"Sesshomaru," she stepped into the room and walked to his side. Immediately, he slipped an arm around her waist as Rin looked on in utter disbelief. "I don't care what you say; pink curtains are perfect for that room." She looked at Rin and smiled before asking her mate, "Did you tell her?"
"I was waiting for you." He replied, while Rin trembled. Was she dreaming? "Fortunate for you, young lady, Kagura and I were able to call a truce. We decided to put the past behind us, and become a mated pair. We shall also be married in three months."
"You said I could have six." Kagura complained.
"Three. I'm not waiting that long." He declared. "And no pink curtains in the room!"
"Hold up!" Rin suddenly spoke up. "What was that whole thing about never seeing each other and marrying Yura?" She demanded.
"It's not a nice feeling when someone lies to you, is it?" Kagura asked.
"You needed to realize you were playing with fire." Sesshomaru agreed.
"But you two needed it! Look, I was right. You're finally together!" Rin protested. Kagura moved forward and gave her daughter a hug.
"Sweetheart, I love you very much. But, if you ever scare me like that again…"
"Or meddle in someone else's love life…" Sesshomaru added.
"You will find that life isn't as forgiving. You were lucky that your father and I made up. Situations like the one you set up usually only work in movies, novels, and overly convoluted fan fictions."
"But you two are together now." Rin pressed, and when Kagura nodded, she continued, "and you two need to redecorate that room of his. That whole evil youkai motif you got going just hast to go!"
"That's why I say we put in pink curtains and a soft gold comforter…we should use the dawn as our theme." Kagura continued.
"Pink curtains are so five minutes ago!" Rin complained. "Lavender. That's the black of interior design. I saw it yesterday on a show."
"Lavender? For a room that a guy has to live in? That's cruel." Souta complained as he approached the newly reunited family.
"For once, your boyfriend makes sense. Now, blue…"
The argument continued well into dinner, for which Souta was invited to stay. Sesshomaru behaved slightly less threatening, as he shared his good spirits with his household.

It was dusk when Kagome awoke to the beeping of her cell phone. She shut off the reminder, and grabbed her pill. With all the activity she was getting, she didn't want to risk having an accident…not that having Inu Yasha's child was such a bad thing. But, it wasn't the right time. She had just gotten a promotion, and she wanted to enjoy the newly wed phase as much as possible before starting a family. Besides, if she got pregnant, that would mean they would have to buy a house. Even though Inu Yasha's apartment was huge, it wasn't fit for a baby; a house would be much better. She looked down at the round pill holder and made note that she was almost done with the set. She frowned as she realized she would most likely have her period sometime next week.
"Better make the best of it." She thought as she turned towards her husband, who was actually sleeping. "I guess he's still tired from the Jacuzzi…and the double round in the shower, and…"she blushed remembering what they had done in the living room.
"I guess I'm resting tonight." She sighed happily as she snuggled close to him, noticing something strange. She looked up at the black mass of hair on the pillow that was definitely not hers. She realized that there was no moon in the sky.
"You once said that you wanted to make love to my three sides." He whispered as he opened his eyes. That beeping had awakened him, but with the change, he wasn't in the mood to talk. She smiled at him, noticing that his supernatural energy had vanished with his amber eyes. But, his deep amethyst eyes sparkled with love and lust as she moved above him, straddling his stomach.
"To tell you the truth…there has been one position I really wanted to try with you, since the first day I met you."
"Oh?" He smiled understanding her movements.
"I want all the control tonight." She whispered hotly in his ear, sending electric chills down his body.
"Enjoy it, since this is the only night you can have it." He replied, swallowing hard.
She started with his neck, and bit her way down his collar bone and back up towards his ear in a painfully slow manner. Her husband groaned below her in pleasure. She kissed his lips passionately before trailing back down his neck, towards his nipples. She teased both his nubs as he buried his nails into the flesh of her hips. Kagome smiled, knowing he was trying to resist her, but tonight, she would have her way.
She licked and nipped her way to his belly button, using this distraction to grab a piece of ice from a nearby Champaign bucket room service had brought up while they were in the shower. She was happy that there was a piece still intact. She moved down his body after giving his navel a friendly nip. Slipping the partially melted ice cube in her mouth, she began to tease his inner thigh. Inu Yasha hissed in surprise and pleasure when the ice came into contact with his exposed skin. The combination of her warmer tongue and the cold ice put all his nerve endings on edge.
"Kagome!" He gasped, begging his wife for mercy. She smiled and straddled his hips.
"You know what? I think you like giving up control." She whispered huskily into his ear just before she mounted him. They both moaned in pleasure as they looked into each other's eyes. She smiled as she began to move tentatively. He held on to her hips, helping her gain speed. Their groans and moans grew louder as their dance reached a climax. They came together, Kagome collapsing on his chest. He wrapped his arms around her as they both fell into a peaceful sleep.

Two weeks passed quickly, leaving Kagome and Inu Yasha overwhelmed with good news and work when they got home. It seemed like all the loose ends had come together. Everyone was happy, though Miroku and Sango kept evading the marriage issue. Inu Yasha didn't blame them. While he was extremely happy with his current situation, he couldn't help but admit he would have liked to prolong the courting. After all, he had found out on his wedding night what his wife's true feelings for him were. But, it had been his father's fault, after all.
The newly weds had decided to stop at the Shrine first to pick up Kagome's car and say hello to her family before returning to their apartment. The old man had been adamant about the two moving into the Shrine, but Inu Yasha refused, remembering the night he had snuck into her room. He knew they couldn't make love comfortably there, worrying about the noise level. Kagome had yielded, not at ease with the idea of moving into her parent's old room.
Keiji frowned when he saw them walking towards the god's tree. His granddaughter was leaner, with circles under her eyes. The boy hadn't given her a moment's rest, and by Inu Yasha's tired smile, neither had she. "Young lovers…fall into lust and forget all about the love." Keiji thought angrily. "I have to make sure that they move into the Shrine. That way, I can ensure they base their new relationship on love and not sex! Damn it! He will love her as much as she loves him!" He decided, and quickly smiled as the two came into hearing range.
"Welcome home." He greeted, a plan formulating in his head.
"Hi jii-chan. Miss us?" Kagome asked as she gave her grandfather a hug.
"You have no idea. This house is too empty, child." Keiji complained as he led them towards the house. "But enough about that, let's feed you two. By the looks of it, the hotel food wasn't to your liking."
"On the contrary, I think I've eaten enough cake to last me a lifetime." Kagome laughed as she intertwined her fingers with her husband's.
"Kagome, phone!" They had hardly walked through the door before Souta's voice greeted them. "It's Sango…oh, and welcome home!" Kagome laughed and excused herself as she moved into the living room.
Once they were alone, Keiji decided to go directly to the point. "I want you and my granddaughter to move-in."
It took a second for the words to register in Inu Yasha's brain. "Hells no. Kagome and I need our space."
"And I need the extra hands." Keiji lied. "Don't make me use dirty methods."
"Are you threatening me?"
"Giving you fair warning." The old man corrected as he stood to his full height before the hanyou.
"I explained to you last time that Kagome was no longer yours. She is mine to protect. Let go old man!" Inu Yasha towered over Keiji, anger flaring in his golden eyes.
"That's what you think. Either you move in voluntarily, or my health is going to take a sudden turn for the worst."
"You are still willing to string your granddaughter along with that fake illness of yours. How long do you think you can fake it? You got her to marry. Shouldn't that be enough?"
"Not until I'm sure she's happy."
"You should have thought of that before you delivered her to me on a silver platter…after all, let's not forget who placed the ad." Inu Yasha growled in a low voice.
"Listen you brut! What I did…"
"What did you do?" Kagome asked from the doorway, eyes wide with shock, hands trembling with confusion.
Both men turned towards her, fear written on their faces. The tides of time had changed just in time for the storm.
