The Bedtime Lullaby
Tenderness. That's what he felt in her arms. Her kindhearted embrace as she lolled him to sleep. She was singing his favorite bed time song. A song long forgotten by others, but never for him.

Her voice was soft. Elegant. It ran through her lungs, holding captive all ears. High pitched, a soprano, but she sang with such control that no one would notice. Constant air flow. Collected, as the words poured from her lips. Rocking him back and forth in her lap, caressing his hair. Twirling strands between her two front fingers. Her hand brushed over his fuzzy appendages on top of his head as she sang.

He held onto her tighter as he borrowed his head further into her chest. Taking in her scent. She always smelled so peaceful, like lilies on a rainy day, or like the mist from a calm flowing waterfall. She began running her hand up and down his arm. The frictions getting him warm enough to close his eyes. Drawing him to dream. Loving the affection she gave off to him at all times.

His breathing began to even out as she made her way through the song once more. Her voice slowing. Quieting down. She held him steady as the words began to diminish. The final coming to a close.

Almost silencing before she got to the end, a smile formed on her lips. Making her eyes glimmer in the night from the full moon in the sky. “Aishiteru, Ookaasan,” her son whispered as he took a deep breath. She began to feel his heart beat dawdling through her own clothes. The gowns of a girl from long ago. Lowering her head slightly, she placed a tender kiss on top of his head, “Aishiteru, Shippo.”

A/N: Well here is another story for your viewing pleasure. I have this picture in my room of a woman embracing a child, and this story kind of just came to me! The song inserted in this story is a Japanese folk song called “Sakura Sakura.” It was made during the Edo period (1600's), thus I had Kagome sing it. Maybe Shippo is the one who finally wrote it down, ne?
P.S- I have not forgotten about other stories. I am actually in the process of revising, so expect something soon.
I hope you all enjoyed it! Please leave a review!
Translations:
Aishiteru- I love you
Ookaasan- Mother (formal)
