The Best Way To Say I Love You

Kagome smiled softly at the weight upon her midsection as she let the scented, warm water around her gently caress her body in the late evening. Though it had been weeks since she had last been home and last had the opportunity to bath in warm water, this was not her reason for smiling. No…instead it had to do with a certain half demon and little notes that she had been finding in her room. It had started perhaps ten days ago when she came back from the past to take another test and Inuyasha, the stubborn mule that he is, did not want her to go. So what did he do? If she would not stay, then she would not go alone.

Grumbles aside, he was sitting on her bed while she was studying when his ears started twitching profusely. Not the, `I have an itch' twitch, or the `there is a bug near my ear' twitch, but the `I am listening to something very interesting that I should probably not hear' twitch. Now then normally this would not bother her, but the fact that he then bolted off of her bed and walked so quickly out the door that he was almost running alarmed her some. The fact that he went missing for the rest of the night, and the day after only heightened her worries.

She had thought the next day, day nine, that he would be there when she woke up, but Inuyasha was not there. She was not sure how she felt about it. Worried? Concerned? Indifferent? It was so like him…yet so unlike him at the same time. When she saw her brother come for breakfast, he seemed overly chipper, a mood which she noticed he maintained for the rest of the day to her chagrin.

That night, Inuyasha returned very late, close to when she was going to stop studying for the night. Why did he return though? For her? Nope! Would you believe that he returned to see her brother? She couldn't, and she was willing to bet that had she not been on the way to the bathroom, she never would have known that Inuyasha was there at all! She could hear their voices, and she knew his well enough to know that it was him, but she had no idea what they were talking so intently about. She decided to shrug it off for once and just get some sleep since she had a test the next day.

The said next day, she awoke to a surprise. Instead of the typical beep beep beep BEEP BEEP GET UP AND TURN ME OFF ALREADY noise that she was used to hearing from her alarm clock, a deep almost hoarse like voice played a certain song. She knew this song by heart, but it was so strange hearing the words so early in the morning.

L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
V is very, very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you can adore

She had felt her heart instantly warm to the music, yet surprised by the fact that this is what she had awoken too.

Love is all that I can give to you
Love is more than just a game for two
Two in love can make it
Take my heart and please don't break it
Love was made for me and you

She couldn't get over that someone…a very certain someone…would do this to her alarm clock. There weren't too many people that would do this, and even then Inuyasha was not someone who would do this, but she had seen him the night before.

L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
V is very, very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you can adore

At the time, she could have sworn that it was just a dream, but the music playing told her otherwise. She was sleepy, and she had almost completely fallen asleep when the door to her room opened ever so slowly, allowing a beam of light to creep up her body towards her eyes and force her to awaken a bit more. A figure crept in and slinked over to her alarm clock, grabbing it and leaving. Later, she did not know how much later due to the absence of her clock, the figure reappeared with it and placed it, a long with something else down upon its resting place.

Love is all that I can give to you
Love is more than just a game for two
Two in love can make it
Take my heart and please don't break it
Love was made for me and you
Love was made for me and you
Love was made for me and you

In her dream, she could clearly not tell that her alarm clock would play such sweet music to her, and the fact that there was a large piece of pink cardstock cut into the shape of a heart, smothered with rose petals on the edges, and a simple phrase in the middle warmed her heart.

“U—the unique way that you understand me.”

She was puzzled as to why he would leave that for her, but she did not have too much time to ponder the heart on that eighth morning because she had to flee the house and take a test asap.

That night when she got home, Inuyasha was publicly there and not hidden in her brother's room, only to tell her that he thought that since there was nothing that important happening in the past, that she could stay here for a few more days. When she suspiciously asked him to clarify what he meant by a few, he causally replied with eight. Eight? He said eight like it was no big deal. Warning signs went off in her head telling her that he was up to something for sure, but what or if it was a good something she had no idea.

He left for a few hours before returning once more and spending the night in her brother's room once more. Again, they seemed to be busy with something, but she could not tell what it could be.

The next morning, day seven, she awoke to the same song, but no heart card. She was puzzled, but she soon found it lying atop the clothing she had set out the night before.

“Y—” it read, “the yesterdays that you make me regret, and the tomorrows that I hope to rectify before it is too late.”

This card too was in pink, as was the one she received on day six:

“O—the only woman that will ever see me as a man.”

Her heart sped up so fast, she swore that it was going to burst from her chest. When she read this one she knew for a fact that she was going to be finding more of these hearts in the days to come. This one, day six, had been laying atop her backpack.

Day five's had been placed on her desk, reading:

“O—the openness your heart has shown to those around you, accepting with a complete trust that astonishes me on a day-to-day basis.”

This one had been in white, with red petals on the edges.

Day four, “V—the venom for which you use to stand up for and protect those that are dear to you, including me.” had been hidden away in her sheets.

Day three, “L—the light that shines in your eyes when you laugh. I could stare at that light, that look, for an eternity.” Had been placed next to her head on her pillow. This one had made her glow for the entire day, and she was sure that her radiance had elicited quite a few stares from people that passed her by on the street and in school.

Day two, or yesterday, had been: “E—the emptiness I feel when you are not near me. You do not know how much I long for you to never leave my side, and to stay with my always…” this one had also been placed in her bed, and it was the last white heart with red petals. She swore that when she read this card, her heart burst and she almost fainted. Her glow yesterday had been so abnormally radiant that her friends had accosted her for the truth, wanting to know what was going on with her with Valentine's Day only a day away, and if her glow had anything to do with a guy. She told them that she would tell them when she knew.

That night she sat down and arraigned the hearts in to color categories, and into the order for which she received them. U, Y, O was in one pile, while O,V,L, E was in another pile. It did not take her long to realize that the song that had awakened her every morning had in fact been a clue. YOU had to be the first word that was spelled out, and LOVE had to be the other. You love? Was the next word going to be me? Or did it perhaps mean love you?

She thought about it for the rest of the night and into the next day, Valentine's Day, as her mother took her out shopping for this and that for the literally the entire day. She had not been in a good mood for the most of the day simply because she had not awoken to her song, nor had she received a heart. She had spilled all to her mother on the trip, telling her of the cards and the wake up song, and she suggested that she would round up her grandfather and her brother and take them out somewhere so that she could have some peace and quite that evening to try and make sense of what had been happening. She eagerly agreed.

That night, after they had eaten and her family had left, Kagome walked up the steps to her room and placed her hand on the doorknob, suddenly feeling and anxiousness in her heart. It was her room. Why was she feeling nervous about turning a knob and walking into it? Probably because she knew that was lay beyond that door was going to change her life forever, and once she crossed the threshold, there was no going back. Strange what a door could do to you, huh?

She opened the door ever so slowly, only to discover that her gut had been right. Her room was filled with the soft glow of wax candle and a hint of vanilla permeated the air. On the floor there was a giant white pelt of some animal, but not that this concerned her. It was what she found on the bed that held her interest. The bubble gum sheets that normally were on her bed had been changed to red satin ones, and atop them were hundreds of rose petals.

The bed was mostly made, except for one corner, which had been strategically draped over something very…masculine, for on that bed, besides for the satin and besides for the rose petals resided a very, very bare looking half demon, almost glowing in the soft light along with the candles. He was on his side, one arm propping his head up while the other was draped across his chest, just like the cloth was draped over something…south of the border. Her breath was taken away from her the second she saw him like that, but looking into his eyes, she could see that he was much, much more nervous then his posture let on. Her eyes drifted to the foot of the bed where she saw a heart in red cardstock with white rose petals on the edge. She padded over to him, kicking off her socks, and started reading it to herself when he suddenly started reciting the card to her from his heart and memory.

“I—the intensity that I will love you with if you give me a chance. Be mine forever…”

Her breath caught in her throat. I. That was the final word. I LOVE YOU. That was what he had been spelling out for her for the last week in the sweetest way. He must have taken her gasp as a bad one or a no, for he immediately launched into a way to try and save face, or get her to say yes. She could hardly make out what he was saying she was so lost in her own world. She caught onto bits and pieces, stuff like,

“I don't have much, all that you are seeing me in right now is all that I have: me. There is nothing that I can offer you but me. I…know I have not been the kindest person in the world to you in the past, but all I am asking for is a chance to at least prove to you that I…I love you. Please just…just give me a chance to be something to you.”

“I…I love you.”

Her life was complete. She launched herself at him, telling him yes, telling him that she loved him, telling him to take the darn sheet off so that they could start their forever, and they had.

This Valentine's Day had been amazing, and now as she leaned back in her tub with her fiancé laying on her midsection, she knew that life was going to be great from now on. Now she had to find some way to repay Sota for opening his big mouth about what Valentine's Day was and helping her special someone come out of his fire rat red shell, and getting her mother to play along. Maybe when he was old enough, she would do the same.

…She had time, and a horny half demon. Procrastination is marvelous at times.

A/N: HAPPY VALINTINES DAY!!! Wanted to write something for it again this year, and I think that this was a better story then my last one, which was titled the same. I wrote this for my two fantastic betas, and this was my gift to them. I hope that everyone like the story!

On a sad and different note, the internet at my house it dead. D.E.A.D. Dead, and I won't get it back for a loooooooong time. Don `t know the specifics, but all the snow corroded some of our wires from the cable company, so we are waiting for them to repair it. I am using internet at school, and at my Dad's business. This means that my next post of AUS will be late. I am sorry…but I am lucky that I can post this. We don't know when it will be repaired, but that is the first thing that I will do when it is.

Also, I am looking for a title to keep tons of random one-shot drably things that I am writing at LJ for 250 competitions and stuff. Any ideas? I will write a 250 word story for you if I pick you name (I might go with notes from life…first idea was love notes…notes does not have to be in the title.)

R&R everyone! You should know the drill by now :-P.
