Chapter One: News Flash! Rich, good-looking guys are JERKS!

Kagome hated school. It wasn't her fault that she was dubbed as one of the losers in Oni High. They made fun of her because of her shyness, oversized sweaters, and her hair being pulled back into a messy ponytail. These jerks at Oni High didn't know exactly how bad her life was though. Her mother was hardly ever home, her younger brother was sent to juvenile detention until he turned 18 and her family just didn't have much money at all. Whenever money was brought into her house it was to pay the bills and some food. She only had two oversized sweaters and two pairs of jeans for school and a used duffel bag for her books. The rich kids especially, loved to pick on her and call her names.

Kagome's mother came into her room and shook her daughter. It was 8:53am and Kagome was 38 minutes late for school. Another thing that kids love to tease her about, her lateness. As usual she had to rush. She lazily pulled on a pair of jeans, which still had a few dirt marks on them from last week. Her mother obviously didn't do laundry during the weekend, for the 2nd weekend in a row.

`Great, now everyone is gonna say that I don't bathe…'

She put a brush through her hair to try to make it look neat but when she reached a mat of knotted hair she decided to just pull it back. She grabbed her duffel bag and tossed it over her shoulders while walking out the door. It took her 20 minutes to walk to school cause her family didn't own any cars. When she finally arrived at Oni High, she went to her first period class. That's when her daily torture began. When she went inside the classroom, people started to giggle, even Mr. Tenchi the teacher. Then a boy in the back of the classroom covered his nose when Kagome passed by him.

"Gross. You wore that sweater for the past week and it still has stains on it. It stinks to high heaven too!" he said.

"Hey, forgot to bathe Higurashi?" said one of the rich girls as Kagome sat down at her seat.

"Yeah, you smell like something died Kagome, do you even where deodorant?" said another girl.

Kagome just looked at them without saying anything. She knew that once she got to her second block class that HE would start the onslaught of insults on her that always brings her on the brink of tears everyday. His name was Inuyasha and he always wore expensive clothing, a very expensive earring in one of his ears, and always let his long silver hair hang loose. He had all the girls chasing after him except for Kagome. He didn't want her chasing after him anyway. These girls who were insulting her now, she could ignore them but, Inuyasha would even go as far as throwing things at her, leave disgusting things in her locker, and even get the teachers to laugh at her.

At the sound of the bell, first period ended. Kagome always prays before going to her second block class that something would cause Inuyasha to stay home or change schools, that way he wouldn't be in class today, or any other day. But, unfortunately for her he was there everyday. She knew him since freshmen year and that he always got attendance awards. Even up to now, in junior year, he still gets those darn rewards.

`Please, let him be absent today, PLEASE!'

The moment she walked into the class, an all too familiar voice spoke out loud.

"She's wearing that sweater, AGAIN!" Inuyasha blurted out, pointing at her.

Every student in the class started to laugh at her, point at her, and make gagging noises. She tried her best to ignore it and sat down at her seat. She opened up her duffel bag and pulled out the textbook she needed. When she looked up to see what was written on the board, she saw Inuyasha standing in front of her.

"Excuse me, I need to see the board, and you're in my way." She said to him politely.

"Well, excuse me, but you're stinking up the class room, go home and take a bath!" he yelled, as he shoved a small bar of soap into her mouth.

She frantically spitted it out and got up. She stared at him with tears swelling up in the corners of her eyes. She kept blinking so she wouldn't cry in front of him. Doing that would mean that he got his thrill of the day, and she didn't want him to have it.

"Why are you blinking so much? You going blind now too?" he pointed at her face and tried not to laugh. "Is it because you never clean your eyes Kagome? Because you have crust in them… ha ha ha ha !!!"

She didn't answer him; instead she looked toward her teacher who was laughing at her.

"...Mr. Lee… May I please go to the bathroom…?" she asked while trying not to cry.

"Sure Higurashi, but make it quick. You need to get back to class so you can learn something."

"Yeah, learn how to have proper Hygiene." Inuyasha added. Then the whole class bursted into laughter.

Kagome rushed to the door and left the classroom. Once again Inuyasha has brought her to tears by teasing her and harassing her non-stop. She stood against the door after she closed it behind her. Slowly her eyes swelled up with tears and she started crying, not being able to hold it in any longer. The class was able to hear her but instead of going out there to comfort her, they all started laughing again. The boys were complimenting Inuyasha on his insults while some of the girls were cracking more jokes about Kagome.

`Why do I have to be his target? Why? I never did anything to him. I never even talk to him! Why me…?" she continuously asked herself.

She spent a few minutes crying. When she finally calmed down she made her way to the bathroom to wash the soap out of her mouth. She couldn't believe he did that! That was truly low of him to do that. At one point during her freshmen year when she first saw him, she thought that he was the cutest guy that she's ever seen, plus he was rich. But not long after, he started to tease and make fun of her, which made her change her mind about him completely.

She turned the bathroom faucet on and gathered some water in her cupped hands. She looked at her reflection in the water and sighed. She just didn't understand why she couldn't have a normal, fun four years at high school. She poured the water into her mouth and gargled. She spit it out and did it again and again until the taste of Ivory soap was out of her mouth. When she finished, she proceeded back to the classroom. She just knew that Inuyasha was gonna do or say something else. She took a deep breath, then opened the classroom door. She walked in and noticed that everyone was staring at her.

"What…?" she said, confused about why she was being stared at.

"Ms. Higurashi, you took 15 minutes. I said to be quick." Her teacher retorted.

"I'm sorry Mr. Lee." Kagome said.

"Gee, ya must've had the "runs" huh HigurTrashi?" Inuyasha said sarcastically.

"No Inuyasha, I didn't. I had to rinse out the soap that you put in my mouth." Kagome stated calmly, trying not to get upset again.

The class started to laugh again, including Mr. Lee and Inuyasha as well.

~`~`~`~`~`~`~

The bell finally rang 45 minutes later. To Kagome it seemed like forever. Inuyasha's continuous jokes didn't help make time go by faster, all it did was make it take longer. It was time for lunch and Kagome sat at her usual table waiting for the only friend she had.

"Hey Kagome!!"

"Hey Sango, how are you?" she said. She seemed to have gotten a bit happier when she sees Sango. Sango was average, she wasn't rich and she wasn't poor. All Kagome cared about was the fact that Sango liked being her friend and didn't tease her.

"Why are you so down?" asked the brown haired girl.

"The usual… Inuyasha embarrassing me in second period and doesn't stop until the bell rings. Plus the snobby girls in first period. Why do they make fun of me Sango? I never did anything to them, especially Inuyasha. Why?" she asked. Her eyes swelling up with tears again.

"They're just jerks Kagome just ignore them. Rich kids are always like that, just don't worry about it."

"Is it because I have a family who struggles to get by? Or is it because of my clothing? My hair? Maybe all of them! I can't help it Sango, my family is torn apart and we can barely pay the bills, there's no way we can use what little money we have to buy me some clothing just so I won't get made fun of. I'm not greedy like that!"

"Shh, calm down Kagome. You're working yourself up over nothing. Jus…"

"It's not nothing Sango!!" Kagome interrupted. "I'm a junior in Oni high, these are supposed to be the most fun four years of my life, not the worst…"

Kagome slumped down on the bench, getting ready to cry again.

"Kagome, don't worry, guess what? The Spring Fling is coming up. Maybe if you go, it'll make you less… uh… teaseable? Someone might even ask to take you to it." Sango said, trying to cheer her friend up. All she got in return was a glare.

"Sango, what makes you think that I would even consider going to the dance? Look at me! I have nothing to wear, no date, no reputation whatsoever, and I'm the laughing stock of the entire school each and every day. No guy would wanna take me to the dance."

"Hmm, you're right." She agreed.

"What?! You're not supposed to agree you're supposed to tell me that it's not true and that someone would love to take me. Some friend you are." Kagome said. She crossed her arms over her chest and pouted."

"Hmm, We're gonna have to change that huh Kagome? I say we give you a Make-Over!"

"What?!"

A/N: Eh, some sort of cliffy even though it's not one of those "Omigod! What happens next?!" kind of cliffies. I hope you guys like it and please review! I would love to get like 4 reviews per chapter but that's up to you guys. If you want me to continue the story, please review. Until next chappy…
