InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The changing of time ❯ It’s over? ( Chapter 1 )
Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of InuYasha I’m just borrowing them for my fantasy.
A/N: I have read many InuYasha fanfics and I have found that many people have made him ether too passive or too aggressive. I hope I stay true to the Characters that the very talented Rumiko Takahashi created. Also I began my fanfic at the part where they travel to the land of the dead and meet Housenki, to obtain the last jewel shard. This will be my fantasy on what happens there, This I my first shot at a fanfic so go easy on me. Sorry It’s so short I promise other chapters will be longer. I’m just testing the waters.
CHAPTER 1: It’s over?
The group stood in the field that contained the “Bone eaters’ well.” Apparently, with the destruction of Naraku, the shikon jewel allowed them out of the land of the dead, and transported them to their central location, the Bone eaters’ well near the Goshinboku. They all stood in silence, stunned over what had just happened. The reality of it all finally sinking in. Their journey is over.
Despite the fact a great battle had just ensued, the day was quite lovely. Early spring sent the sweet smell of blossoming flowers on the breeze, gently lapping their noses, and filling their senses. The wind swirled around their bodies, as if to thank them for ridding the world of the evil known as Naraku.
Inuyasha caught a sudden, but faint scent coming from the north end of the field, emerging from the trees. His soft, white, blood spattered, dog ear twitched. His head darted in the direction of the smell. Slowly a small figure covered in red and white emerged into the field. By this time the others seen it too. All sets of eyes where on Kagome but two, Kagome’s and InuYasha’s.
“Kikyou,” InuYahsa breathed. In a flash he began to run to the miko. In that same instant Kagome fell to her knees, sobbing as if someone had ripped her heart out right in front of her. Too much was happening too fast for her to handle. Miroku, Sango, and Shippou ran to her side.
“Remember, Kagome,” Miroku spoke softly, “You are the protector now of the shikon. You must stay strong.”
Sango added, “You don’t know what this means yet, Kagome. What if he wants to say good-bye? Naraku is defeated and there is no need for them to keep ties.”
But Kagome knew better. What about his promise? As far as she knew Inuyasha was as good as gone. Ripped from her heart, her side, forever.
As Shippou looked back he thought to himself , Idiot. He turned to Kagome. Seeing her look so devastated, broke his tiny fox youkai heart. As his eyes began to well up with tears, he closed them tight and began jumping up and down, beating his small fist on his head, “I gotta stay strong. I gotta stay strong.”

As InuYasha reached Kikyou, he stopped just in front of her. He could smell her old familiar scent, though a hint of clay was mixed in it. Even resurrected, her scent still enchanted him, despite the clay. They looked at each other in silence as the wind blew softly through their hair. He would always love this woman, as she would always be his first love. Nothing could change the past and the future was something to behold.
“Kikyou, how did you know we would…?” InuYasha finally spoke.
“The dead are often aware of the activities in the land or the dead.” With that, she collapsed into his arms.
“You’re still too weak.” He let out a sigh and hugged her close to him, allowing her scent to envelope him for what he knew, almost certainly, would be the last time.
“InuYasha?” Kikyou whispered.
“Yes.”
“Take me to Kagome.”
He then scooped her up, and began running in the direction of the group. He saw Kagome slowly look up at him. A look of hurt and anger slowly spread across her face.
Now how do I explain this? I never under stood the things I do now about love. I’ll always love Kikiyou. How do I tell her what that means to me? he thought to himself.
*********
Kagome kept hearing everyone’s voices ringing in her ears. It all jumbled together until the words had no meaning. Resolve came to her mind. She was the protector now, and there were still three more shards to get. The one in the back of Sango’s little brother and the two Kouga still had in his legs.
“WAIT!!!!” she screamed. “I can’t think about this now. We have to figure out what we are going to do about your brother, Sango. And what are we going to do about Kouga?” She tightly clutched the now softly glowing pink orb in her left hand that her miko powers had now purified. She looked up. Shit she thought as she saw the hanyou she loved and the undead miko she wished she could be.
InuYasha laid Kikyou’s weak body on the ground between himself and Kagome. Stunned, all Kagome could do was stare.
“I wanted to talk to you both,” Kikyou quietly began. “Soon, I will be dead as I should be. When the youkai who obtained Naraku’s soul realized they had no need for it, they released it. It was tainted with miasma. I sent my soul catchers to retrieve it and I absorbed it to take to hell with me. If I had not, he would have found a way to return. The miasma will kill me and when I die all traces of him should die with me.”
“Damn it, Kikyou. I promised you that I…..” InuYasha was cut off by the gentle raise of Kikyou’s hand to his lips.
“I know.” She dropped her hand, “InuYasha, I want you to make me a new promise.” she lovingly looked into his eyes. “Protect Kagome. She needs you and this time needs her.” She turned to look at Kagome ,who was at a loss as to what was going on. Kikyou placed a hand and either side of Kagome’s face.
“You owe me, girl. Look after InuYasha for me. He needs your love and understanding. Now, take the rest of the soul that rightfully and completely belongs you.” Blue light began to beam from beneath Kikyou’s hands. In a blinding flash Kagome was left with a very small blue marking similar to Sesshoumaru’s youkai marking’s on her left cheek. Kikyou turned to dust and blew away with the wind leaving only the bones that were used to resurrect her.
“Good-bye Kikyou.” Was all that was heard from the Inu hanyou.
**********
The young, by youkai standards, white dog hanyou sat atop a modest hut surveying the land. The little hut was nestled comfortably a few yards away from Kaede’s hut. It had been four new moons since the day Kikyou’s bones were laid to rest in her shrine on the outskirts of the village. Kohaku was also laid to rest in the same shrine to honor his own difficult battle with Naraku.
Kouga had been tracked down by InuYahsa. It was agreed by all involved that it would be best if he went alone, but only on the promise that he would not kill the wolf youkai.
A battle that had lasted three days and two nights took place. It began with Kouga demanding InuYasha to turn over Kagome, and Inuyasha demanding the shards and for the “wimpy wolf” to “Shut the fuck up about Kagome already.” They were both badly injured during the fight, but by luck alone, InuYasha got one good kick in and knocked the wolf youkai out. Of course keeping his word, he left the wolf alive but short two shikon shards. InuYasha covered his scent buy dumping an entire bottle of Kagome’s perfume on Kouga’s head. He wouldn’t be able to smell anything but the perfume. It was Miroku’s idea, and it had worked. They had not seen or heard from the wolf since.
InuYasha sighed. “Kagome,” he lovingly whispered. Her sweet mixed scent of milk and honey from her soaps and her own natural smell drifted up from the hut to tickle his nose. He closed he eyes, trying to calm himself from the feelings rolling in his stomach. He deeply breathed in her scent, allowing himself that small pleasure. What do I do?
