Chapter 12: Since you’ve been gone

“I would like to extend my congratulations to the bride and groom.”

The crowd buzzed with whispers as the person walked to stand in front of Inuyasha and Kagome. Kagome’s mother, Souta, Miroku and Sango came to stand next to them. The man spoke again.

“I am honored to be able to stand before the great Inuyasha and his new bride Kagome. I thank you that you are so public with your union. All present should take heed to this symbol. It is possible for youkai and human to coexist happily and I hope that you two will be an example.”

“Who the hell are you?” Inuyasha asked, a little puzzled by the man’s strangely familiar sent.

“I am the village head.” the man answered then pulled down the hood to reveal his face. Kagome, Jii-can and Maya gasped. Maya’s eye’s rolled back into her head and she fainted, but was thankfully caught buy Miroku. Kagome stared at the man and tightened her grip on Inuyasha. What she said came out as a mere whisper but was heard by the man none the less.

“Daddy?”

The man smiled and nodded. Kagome’s grip on Inuyasha loosened a little. Her eye’s narrowed as she studied the man. Inuyasha, himself, just stood confused.

“It really is you!” Kagome exclaimed as she let go of her grip on her new husband and threw herself into the arms of her long lost father, sobbing.

“Hey peanut.” The man said, recalling his old nick name for her, as he hugged his daughter and smiled. He looked up to Inuyasha and held out his hand as he still held tight to Kagome. “And it is quite a pleasure to finally meet you face to face, Inuyasha.” Inuyasha shook the mans hand remembering the western custom Kagome told him about long before in her time. “I’m pleased my daughter picked an honorable man like you.”

The man let go of the sniffling Kagome and turned to his own father grinning. “Hey Pops!” He then scooped up the old monk in a bear hug.

“You have a lot of explaining to do my boy!” Jii-chan scolded with tears in his eyes, and hugged him back.

He let Jii-chan go and turned to a bug eyed Souta. “My son.” he whispered, fatherly pride shone in his eyes. “Souta, my…son. I haven’t seen you since you were only a year old.” The man leaned down and placed a hand on the boy’s shoulder. “I’m sorry I missed so much.”

Souta, with a trembling lip, said, “I couldn’t even remember your voice.” the village head gabbed Souta in a hug as tears ran down the family’s faces.

Inuyasha turned to Miroku, “ Clear out this crowd would ya?” Miroku only nodded as he laid Kagome’s mother down. The monk then set to work clearing out the large group of people. Kagome’s father knelt down and scooped up her mother. He smiled and buried his nose in her hair and smiling.

“Follow me to my hut. I will explain it all there.” The confused group of people followed in silence. Miroku Followed a few short minuets behind.

Ka gome’s father sat at the edge of his futon, wiping his, once lost, wife’s brow with a cool damp cloth. Slowly the woman began to stir. Her eye’s fluttered open, and she stared at the man in confusion.

“Ryu? Is it really you? Or am I dead?”

Ryu giggled, “Hi, Maya. No, your not dead I’m really here. I’ve missed you.” He said as he ran his thumb over her cheek bone.

She sat up and wrapped her arms around his neck, planting a heated kiss on his lips. One that showed years of longing, and love lost. He slid his arms around her back, allowing himself to remember what her body felt like pressed to his, and the taste of her lips.

She ended the kiss and pulled back, looking tearfully into his eye’s. She reached a hand up and slapped him, hard, across the face. “Where the hell have you been all this time?!” She yelled as she rubbed the stinging fingertips, that made contact with his cheek.

He just chuckled as he babied the red spot on his face. “Sweetie, I promise I’ll explain it all to you, and everyone, in a little bit. Right now I just want to be with you.” He leaned in and kissed her with a passion she had not felt in years. He leaned his body over hers, pushing her down onto the futon, as she wrapped her hands to the back of his head to keep his lips on hers. He pulled up slightly to look into her eyes, “Damn. I’ve missed you woman.” he crashed his lips to hers again, letting go of all his love and 10 years of built up desire for her. Letting it flow into her very being.

The y had been back in that room for a long time now. What was taking so long? The group sat in the rather large room of Kagome’s father’s hut. None of them said a word as they waited to for her father to emerge and tell his tale. Confusion over what had happened this morning hung thick in the air. Kagome sighed, getting anxious for her parents to come on out.

Inuyasha sat next to Kagome with his back against the wall in his usual position. He glanced up at Miroku, as he watched the monk flinch and look at his right palm. Miroku saw no injury and shrugged it off thinking it was a strain of some sort from catching Kagome’s mother. Inuyasha was unsettled. He was spending his “wedding night” In this hut instead of at the base of Goshinboku, ALONE, with Kagome. Like he had planned. He wanted to know why in the hell Kagome’s father was here. And something about the way Miroku flinched didn’t set right with him. He was a ball of pent up frustration. Kagome sighed again.

“I’m going to go see what’s taking them so long.” She got up but Inuyasha grabbed her wrist as pulled her back down onto her butt. He never even opened his eye’s to look at her.

“Don’t.” was all he said.

“What? Why?” she asked, a little agitated.

Inuyasha smiled and looked at her in the eye’s, his twinkling. “Because, they’re saying their Hellos.”

“What?” She looked at him a little more than confused.

Inuyasha rolled his eye’s and leaned into her ear. “they’re doing what we were supposed to be doing right now.” He snaked out his tongue and, discreetly, licked her ear lobe. She shuttered, in the back of her mind she wished she could just run off with Inuyasha and make love to him like a newly wed couple were suppose to. Drawing her mind back to what was going on, realization dawned on her.

“You mean there in there doing…that?”

He smiled triumphantly, as he could smell her become aroused by his action. “yeah, sucks it’s not us huh?”

“Yeah, oh well.” She shrugged. There were so many thing’s she wanted to know, but, in all honesty, If it were her and Inuyasha she would be thinking along the same lines as her mother.

A few more antagonizing minuets later, her father and mother emerged. Her mother was flushed and was holding on for dear life, onto her husbands arm. Kagome’s father smiled to Inuyasha and winked. Inuyasha returned the smile and nodded. Maya and Ryu sat in front of the fire, somewhat in the middle of the whole group. No one said a word as they waited for Ryu to begin. He closed his eyes and sighed.

“Ten years ago, I went into the well house to asses if any restorations needed to be done on the well. I fell in. When I woke, I climbed out to this place. The past. I was met by a small group of people who said they had been waiting for me. They told me of our blood line.”

“How did they know you and that you were going to be there?” Kagome butted in.

Her father laughed and shook his head. “Peanut, your getting ahead of me. First they explained that there are four type of youkai. Animal, like my new son-in-law, Inuyasha, and of course Shippou and Kirara. There are elemental youkai, like wind, fire, metal, earth, that sort of thing. Spiritual Youkai. Like monks and mikos.”

“Wait!” now it was Inuyasha who was butting in, “You mean to tell me the hentai, Kikyou, and even Kagome are Youkai?”

“Essentially, yes. But for humans, it has to be tapped into. Not many human youkai ever realize their power. And most of those never realize it means they are youkai. ” Every one gasped.

“Now” Ryu began again. “Some elemental and animal youkai are born with spiritual youkai abilities. Like you friend Ikinezumi.”

“You know about that?” Miroku asked.

“Yes. I also know that that’s when Inuyasha let it slip that your lovely bride Songo was with child.”

Songo blushed, “How do you know us all?”

“I’m getting to that.” Ryu smiled. “The people I met then told me of the final type of youkai. Time Keeping youkai. Only humans could be time keeping youkai. That is our blood line. And only our blood line.”

“WHAT!!!!!” A collective yell could be herd echoing through the hut.

“Time keepers are the one’s who make’s sure the time line of everything is in order. Not all time keepers are meant to be directly involved with the time line. However, our immediate family was meant to play key roles in the time line. They didn’t tell me how or why. The only thing they told me was that it was important that I stay here. If I were there Kagome and Souta wouldn’t have grown the way they did, and Kagome wouldn’t have gone down the well. It was imperative that she meet Inuyasha. They are meant to do great things together. I don’t know all what though. Also not all time keeper know that that’s what they are. Hence us, till later in our lives. You will never have to worry about the well closing. It is our link and we are the ones who command it.”

“I don’t get it. How come Inuyasha can still go through the well if he’s not a time keeper?” Kagome asked.

“Like any other Youkai, a part of your youki attaches it’s self to your mate allowing him the ability to travel through time along you.” Ryu answered.

“But Inuyasha and I only became mate’s a bout five weeks ago.” Kagome said.

“Your souls,” He answered, “Chose each other before you ever met. They recognized each other. Your souls mated before your bodies did.”

“But wouldn’t that mean Kikyou was meant to be with Inuyasha also?” Shippou finally opened his mouth, showing he was a lot smarter than people liked to think.

Ryu you smiled at the kit. “No, the soul and the spirit have to meld. The soul changes as it’s reincarnated. Each spirit causes another change in the soul. Kagome’s soul is the same as Kikyou’s, but the spirit make’s it slightly different. Thus, making Kagome’s version of the same soul the one meant to be with InuYasha. Mistress centipede was a youkai with time keeper abilities. Though she couldn’t come completely through the well parts of her could. That is when she sensed the jewel and was able to pull kagome through. Now I hate to cut this short, but I don’t have any more to inform you on. Our family didn’t tell me any more, than that I couldn’t reveal myself till Kagome’s wedding day. And Perhaps a few details along the way. I have been following all of you in your travels. I believe Kagome has something she wanted to tell all of you tonight before she left on her honeymoon?”

“Huh?” Kagome asked. Inuyasha knew. He placed his hand on Kagome’s stomach and smiled at her. She placed her hands over his. “Oh yeah.” She whispered. Every one looked at them as the couple was lost in each others eye’s. The group seemed to know what was coming.

“Kagome’s going to have my pup.” Inuyasha blurted as Kagome blushed.

“My baby!!” Maya yelled as she ran up to her daughter and hugger her smiling. The other women ran to Kagome squealing and congratulating.

“I was wondering when you would spill it child.” Keade said.

The boy’s all went to Inuyasha. “I’m proud you will be the father of my grandchild.” Ryu said.

Miroku smacked Inuyasha on the shoulder, “Looks like you’re a hentai too.”

“Can I say that I know now?” Shippou asked.

*So mewhere in a cave*

Black fog swirled inside the darkened cave. The pure evil’s presences kept almost all living things away. A blood chilling chuckle could be heard at the opening.

“Ku ku ku ku, what a lovely scene. Too bad it wont last long Inuyasha.”

Kagome and Inuyasha walked in the darkness of night. They had to be shooed away to take their week of solitude. Her father assured her he would still be there when they got back. Inuyasha fumbled with the ring Kagome’s father promised they could keep. It seemed strange but he liked how humans could now see that he belonged to Kagome. Belong? I never thought I would feel like I belonged somewhere. Nothing I ever do could thank her for this.

They reached the base of the tree were they met. “I wanted to bring you here.” Inuyasha said. “I love it here and I love you.” He touched the tree. “We have a lot to thank this tree for.” he turned and took her face in his hands. “I want to make love to you under this tree. I know we’ve done that before but it really means a lot to me.”

Tears streamed down her face as she touched his hand on her cheek. “I love you Inuyasha.” He kissed her.

Kagom e woke in her bed in her time. She was a little confused as to what was going on. She felt a clawed hand grip her breast. She rolled over and locked eye’s with gold. “How did we get here?”

“It got a little cold and thought that maybe here would be better to spend our week alone. I mean no one will be here for a while so why not stay here.” He kissed her forehead. “Don’t you remember when we got here?”

“No. Why?”

He chuckled. “I didn’t think You would. Why don’t I remind you?” He then kissed her with fire and passion.

A/N: Ok so there it is, why Kagome’s father is in the past. There is SO much more that’s going to happen. And who is in the cave? Hmmmmm?
