Chapter Twenty-Three

 

Inuyasha sniffed the air. `I can smell them…Sesshomaru and…Kikyou. She has her old alive smell back…but…there is something else there…something different…something new…'

 

“Inuyasha” Kagome whispered. “You seem kind of out of it…are you OK? Maybe this was a bad idea, seeing Kikyou, especially with Sesshomaru…”

 

“No…it's ok…I just…Kikyou smells different. I don't think she is dead anymore. I can't explain it. She smells alive, but she doesn't quite smell like she use to.”

 

“Myoga did say that that they mated, and there are some demons who change their smell after mating…they are bonded so shouldn't their smells mix now?” asked Sango.

 

“Keh! I never heard of that…but then again I don't know much about demons or humans considering that I didn't really grow up with a demon or human teaching me about anything that I should need to know.”

 

`That's right…he grew up alone. I had a hard time growing up with my mother teaching me about growing up…he had no one to teach him or help him get through it. How awful' Kagome thought.

 

“Ummm…Inuyasha?”

 

“We should stop. Nightfall is coming soon” Inuyasha remarked.

Sesshomaru allowed himself a smirk. `So…Myoga the flea has found out and had told Inuyasha.

 

“Jaken.”

 

“Yes milord?” said the imp scurrying to Sesshomaru's side.

 

“We will be having visitors soon. Prepare guest rooms.”

 

“Yes Sesshomaru-sama” replied the imp and scurried away.

 

As soon as Jaken had left, in came bounding Rin.

 

“Rin has picked flower for you my lord. Also, Rin has asked Kikyou-sama if Rin will be having brothers or sisters soon since Sesshomaru-sama and Kikyou-sama are married, and she said that Rin should ask Sesshomaru-sama…” Rin looked at him expectedly. When she realized that Sesshomaru wasn't going to answer, she asked “Will Rin be having brothers or sisters soon?”

 

“Um…go and play in the gardens Rin. Jaken! Take Rin to the gardens!”

 

`Kami…she is already thinking of brothers and sisters. I need an heir to the throne, but no one will respect me or my son if I allow a hanyou to become my successor. This subject could not have come up at a worse time. Inuyasha's pack will be here soon.'

 

Kikyou walked in seeming to sense Sesshomaru's concern without needing to hear anything.

 

“I want to have children…but you already know this. You are concerned about receiving respect about your children because they will be hanyou. There is something to consider though; since we are becoming bonded, our children anyway will probably both have miko and youkai qualities. You are strongest youkai that I have ever encountered, and no one can compare with your strength, and it seems that I am well known for being a powerful miko, so by both our reputations and by the strength our children will receive, you will be evermore respected, and our children will not have to worry about not being able to protect themselves.”

 

Sesshomaru stood in silence thinking about how to word his thoughts.

 

“This Sesshomaru is still unsure…I will be caught up in my library. Feel free to do what you want, but don't disturb me.”

 

Kikyou glared at him and shot him a “what are you planning look.” In response, Sesshomaru left the room.

 

In her mind, she thought she could hear Sesshomaru's voice saying “Heirs? Am I really ready to care for young pups? Will I be able to love hanyou children…even though they are mine?”

 

“Sesshomaru, must you always be so stubborn and emotionless? Your actions sometimes say that you love me, but as of now, they are saying that you feel as if I am like Rin or even Jaken. You tell me where you are and what you will be doing, but then you order me not to disturb you, and say you will be `caught up' in your library, meaning that I will not see you for many days. This is showing me that you think of me as a servant…not a wife or mate.”

 

“I'm a demon, not a human. This Sesshomaru needs time.”

 

He thought he heard Kikyou's voice whisper “You may have all the time in the world Sesshomaru, but mine is short lived.”

“Well…it reeks of Sesshomaru here…guess this is where he is.

 

Jaken walked out and looked at the group with disdain. Sesshomaru-sama commands that I show you to rooms where you'll be staying. In my opinion” Jaken added “I think you should stay in the stables. A vile hanyou and the lowly filthy humans he travels with deserve less than that in the great presence of Lord Sessh..” Miroku and Inuyasha thumped him a few times. Kagome was giving Jaken a death glare, and Sango looked like she was getting ready to thump him with her Hiraikotsu.

 

“Let me show you to your rooms honored guests of Lord Sesshomaru.”

 

As they were walking up to the castle, Kagome thought she saw a little human girl ducking in and out of trees looking shyly at them.

 

The girl soon seemed to get her courage, and walked up to them and handed Kagome flowers. “You look a lot like Lady Kikyou. I hope Lady Kikyou and Lord Sesshomaru have kids soon so I can play with them. Mean old Jaken isn't always so fun to play with. He doesn't like flowers much, but I know that Lady Kikyou's and Lord Sesshomaru's kids will like flowers as much as me and we can go pick them all the time. Jaken is too slow. Let Rin show you your rooms. Follow me!” Rin ran off apparently not caring whether or not they were following her.

Kagome was just setting down her pack in her own room when Kikyou walked in.

 

“Ummm…Kikyou…”

 

“Inuyasha…You do not have to worry about me taking him to hell with me anymore. As you can see, my soul collectors are gone. I am alive. They were reconstructing a new soul for me and holding it until I needed to be alive again.”

 

She promptly walked out before Kagome could reply back.

 

`She doesn't care about Inuyasha anymore? Well, she never really did care…she did hate him and want to take him to hell with her…but…does Inuyasha still care for her? I mean, she is married to his brother…but…you never really do forget those that you first love…'

 

“Oi! Kag-“

 

“Ekkk! Inuyasha! You should sneak up on people like that!”

 

While Kagome seemed to grow ten feet tall while yelling this, Inuyasha seemed to shrink upon himself.”

 

“What are you talking about!? You should have known that I would be here because the Ramen is here!”

 

“So wait…you aren't here because…oh…your girlfriend is in here, all by herself, in a demon's palace, but because your Ramen is in here?! OSUWARI!”

 

Sesshomaru walked into the room with the stoic look as always in place. “Inuyasha. Must you always make a fool of yourself? You say such idiotic things to your human mate.”

 

When the subduing spell wore off Inuyasha jumped up. “Sesshomaru…you bastard! You have a human mate also! Are you planning to kill us all in the middle of the night?! Why did you place us in different rooms?”

 

“I have the rooms. From what I can understand from human customs, it is not proper for males and females to sleep in the same room unless they are married or siblings. I also assume that the demon slayer would not feel safe with the monk in the same room as her.”

 

“Sango can take care of herself…when we were gone she left Miroku unconscious for something he did or said.”

 

“Ha! Sango probably knocked him unconscious because of what he was caught doing to a village girl!”

 

“Actually, Shippo said that he was asking girls about how to get a girl to say yes to marriage…and also, I think he made a comment about positions when she tackled him to the ground after chasing him…” Kagome added meekly.

 

“Why would he get knocked unconscious for a comment about positions? Is that kind of like that `atmosphere' thing you were talking about?”

 

“Never mind Inuyasha…”

(I need to stop writing bits and parts at three and four am…really, I'm not this insane…)

 

 

Smartjock: you cannot switch mates; especially if you get married or bonded or joined! Where did you get an idea like that? I do admit, I started writing this story thinking that it would be a Sesshomaru/Kagome pairing, but later I changed my mind and decided that Kagome can only be with Inuyasha. Do you want a Sesshomaru/Kagome pairing because I know of a website where all they have is stories with Sesshomaru/Kagome pairings if that is what you like.

 

HigherBeing: how am I doing so far with the more writing? Thanks for the luck though…I couldn't seem to get this chapter written…no ideas would come to me. So much for last year…I had a chapter done a month…sigh…writers block sucks. What happened to you Fauna?! Do you think that Sesshomaru and Inuyasha teamed up to kill her? So…they'll team up to kill my muse, but they won't team up to kill Naraku?! How can I mess this plot up any more…

 

SpookyKitty: Lol. I liked reading your comment. It made me very happy *beams* I thought that I would be writing more and that I would get my chapters done quicker, but this one does not want to get written. It just stares back at me…I think its mocking me now.
