The Criminal

Chapter 1

Prologue - A New Case

"Oh Kami-sama! Oh! I'm going to be late!" Kagome pushed past people on the streets headed toward the FBI agency building. She glanced at her watch and squealed. "Gah! I'm 30 minutes late already!" Kagome had been up all night doing some research on Naraku, one of the most wanted on her list. So she went to bed at 3 in the morning, then the power went out while she was sleeping and the alarm didn't go off so she woke up late. And it really helped that her car was in the shop getting work done on it, so she didn't have a ride to or from work either. Not that the traffic was good enough to get through to get to work on time even when it was working. Her car had gotten pretty torn up on her last mission.

Kagome stormed into the building and into the elevator. `Come on… Hurry up!' she thought to the elevator as it made it's was up to the 5th floor. *Ding* The elevator doors opened to the 5th floor and Kagome quickly rushed into her office. "Kagome?!" Kagome jumped and turned around. "Oh! Sango… it's just you…" She smiled thankfully to her best friend and partner Sango. "What do you mean just me?" Sango asked her and set down a cup of coffee on Kagome desk. "Oh, I just thought you were Sesshomaru is all… I'm glad it was only you." Kagome took a sip of the coffee Sango brought for her. "Yeah, Sess would be pissed if he found out you were late… again! Jeez Kagome, when are you going to get that car of yours fixed? And you really need to get more sleep… you look awful…" Sango said looking at the bags under her friend's eyes. She was worried when Kagome was like this. Kagome would get sick if she kept this unhealthy schedule up, she really needed more sleep. Only5 hours of sleep was not enough. Kagome stressed too much.

"Good Morning ladies!" Miroku said as he entered Kagome's office. "Late again I see Kagome…" Miroku sighed. "You're pushing yourself to the limits. Your never going to survive working nonstop like this. You need a break." "Good morning Miroku." Both girls replied at the same time in a bored tone of voice. Miroku was such a pervert. Kagome knew Miroku liked Sango…a lot. And Sango had admitted her feelings to her about Miroku once before. Kagome thought it was cute and romantic. But Kagome was saddened… `Sango and Miroku… Such a perfect couple… Sango found her special someone. But… When will I find my special someone?' "Kagome? Hey, you alright there?" Kagome was torn out of her thoughts. Miroku waved a hand in front of her face. "What's up with you? You need to go home and rest? You still have your vacation time you haven't taken… Maybe you should take the time you have and go to the beach or somewhere for a little rest huh?" He asked her. "Huh? Oh! I'm sorry Miroku, I was just thinking…" Kagome smiled up at him. "Houshi, what exactly did you come in here for again?" Sango asked with an annoyed look on her face. "Oh yeah," Miroku pulled an envelope from his pocket and held it out to Kagome, "Sesshomaru wanted me to give you this…" Kagome took the letter and opened it. Sango looked over Kagome's shoulder and they both read the letter silently to themselves. "He wants to see me in his office…" `Oh Kami-sama… What'd I do now?'

Kagome got up and walked to the elevator and rode to the top floor, the 7th floor. Sesshomaru was in charge of the FBI agency. He always had to see Kagome about something. Once or twice he had asked her out on a date. She had accepted and they went to some fancy restaurant together, it was pretty nice. But Kagome didn't really want her boss as a boyfriend. She saw how Sesshomaru would look at her, his cold eyes filled with lust. She would never have sex with him, she knew that's what he wanted out of her. That's all guys ever wanted out of her. Kagome was beautiful and had an amazing body. Most guys dated her to only take advantage of her. They must think she was a sex machine or something! That's why Kagome hadn't dated in a while. Most of the men that had asked her out had been rejected.

Kagome walked into Sesshomaru's office. Sesshomaru looked up from some files he was reading on his desk. He had that lustful look in his eyes. "Kagome," he gave her a rare smile, he only smiled for her, she thought he looked nice when he smiled, "Please, come sit down." He motioned toward a chair across from him. Kagome took a seat. "Kagome, I'm putting you on a new case…" "But I already have so many! I can't work on all of them at one time…" Kagome nearly shouted at him. "I'm reassigning all of your cases to someone else, this one I want you to do is very… special. You've heard of Inuyasha Tama right?" He asked her. "Japans most wanted, of course…" She looked at him suspiciously. `Is he going to give me the job? The case on Inuyasha Tama?! Oh Kami, Oh Kami, please say so! I would be famous if I busted Inuyasha Tama, I know I can do it!' Kagome thought to herself. "I'm giving you the case, on Inuyasha Tama. We have a report on him being in Tokyo, something about a bomb… here." He tossed her a folder and smiled. "You want the case don't you?" He knew she did… "Mochiron! Of course I want it! I'll take the case! I promise you I'll get him! I can do it!" Kagome was wearing a smile as big as her face. Kagome bowed and thanked Sesshomaru then skipped out the door back to her office.
