The Battle at Hand

 

So it has finally come to this. The demons had sent troops to start invading the outer territories of the vampire kingdom, the humans were being plagued by vampire raids and were building an army of their own to attack. Soon what little hope for a peaceful life would be swept away beneath the chaos. There was little time left before all would be lost so action was necessary to prevent too much damage from being done. With what little hope and much dread the queen had finally come to a conclusion about what actions were essential for the survival of all those under her protection.

 

Moving swiftly down the haunted halls of her castle she made it to the courtiers chamber. All movement with in the room came a sudden halt as all stared in shock and fear at their queen. A wave of her hand and all scuttled out of her way as she made her way to the front of the room and took her place so as to here the business the lords and ladies thought were important enough for her time. But less then an hour later all commotion with in the chamber was brought to a halt again when general Kouga burst forth through the crowd and stood in front of the queen.

 

The queen turned a cold glare upon him as she spoke, “and what is so important that you can not wait your turn general?”

 

A sneer covered the generals face as he slowly took in the figure of the queen for all to notice, “I have come to declare a challenge,” he licked his lips as he finally made eye contact making his lust for her very apparent, “A mating challenge.”

 

The queens' eyes turned to icy daggers, “And to whom is this challenge being issued? And for what purpose?”

 

“I have come forth to challenge you, my dear. For many will agree that you have ruled alone for far to long and it is time you take a mate,” Kouga stated as nods and whispers of approval swept across the court.

 

The queen clenched her hands as she stared down upon her top general, “And what gives you the right?”

 

A chuckle left the generals throat, “why because I am the strongest male within all of your court and you will be needing a powerful and intelligent mate at your side for the upcoming war. Or would you rather endanger all of your people as you attempt to take on a war without a mate?” a dark glint entered his eyes as he knew he had won.

 

All turned their eyes upon the queen awaiting her response. Many cowered in fear when the heard a soft chuckle come forth from behind her cold metallic mask, “why my dear, dear general I never knew you cared so much. And you have brought to my attention a very valid point. I do need a strong mate at my side for this war to come. I need the strongest in all the land.” Kouga smiled from ear to ear upon hearing these words but the smile quickly faded upon her next words. “But why limit it to just my court. We shall hold a tournament to find the strongest male with in all of my territory, be he vampire, human, demon, or otherwise.” A murmur consumed the court at thought of a tournament, “so let us prepare at once. Every eligible male in my territory is to be allowed to participate for my hand in marriage. Now get to work.” The queen stated as she walked once more through the buzzing crowd and made her way towards the guest chambers.
