Creamy, Prompt 5: Wary
Title: Amai
Author: Harmony Sunsinger
Pairing: Naraku/adult Rin
Rating: Reserved
Genre: Canon, Post-manga What-if
Word Count: 300
Summary: Naraku is not the patient type. If he wants in that birthing room, he'll find a way in, midwife be damned.
A/N: Their next daughter's name, Amai, is Japanese for “sweet.” In me and Erin's multi-chaptered fic, “Hero,” Rin's title is Amai.
Naraku cursed at the midwife's assistant as she steered him out of the birthing room, apologizing. Before the door shut once more, he could hear his mate screaming loudly and cursing his name. What normally would have made him snicker and bend her over to take her like the beast he was now only made him sick with worry.
Rin had been in labor for over a day now; something wasn't right.
As he paced up and down the brightly lit corridor, he thought on Rin's previous births. Rishou had come popping right out after only an hour, and the twins were also a very quick delivery; Iyo had come out first after barely three hours, and Noru had followed eight minutes later.
Inside the room, Rishou sat beside his mother, letting her squeeze his hand and scream at him. As the assistant came back in, he looked to the midwife. His eyes were calm as he said simply, “Be wary of my father's temper, midwife. He does not take rejection lightly.”
She shook her head, ignoring the young man's comments. He shrugged, patting his mother's hand and giving her softly spoken encouragement in Naraku's place.
Soon, cries other than Rin's filled the large birthing room, and Naraku practically threw the door off its hinges. “Let me see her!” he shouted, eyes reddening in anger. The midwife refused, saying something about needing to wash her, and Rishou had barely seconds to grab the babe from the woman's arms before Naraku's fingers were wrapped around her throat, crushing her windpipe.
“Amai,” Rin sighed, closing her eyes and shaking her head at her mate.
He gave her a stern look as Rishou laid the baby girl in his arms. “I know,” he shot back, looking down at his newborn daughter. “She is.”
