A/N Ah, another chapter. Hopefully I’ll get the next one up today too, but I’m not sure how long it will take for me to edit it.
______________________________________________________
In the end Kagome did have to knock out the guard. She couldn’t rightly carry an injured demon up a tree. Well she could if she used her powers, but she thought she might seem a little conspicuous if she scaled the side of a ten floor dorm building with a passed out kid sporting doggy ears
levitating beside her.
Also, it wasn’t like she could just walk in the front door without getting stopped. She could see the conversation now.
“Miss you know you’re not supposed to be out of the dorm at night. And what are you doing with that dying demon?”
“Sorry sir, I had to go practice my special powers somewhere noone would see me, then this idiot got mauled trying to save me when I didn’t need to be saved. Can we go in now?”
Yeah, that would work.
So Kagome knocked out the guard then used her little mind trick on the unsuspecting guy. The guard would think he just had a really bad headache and had taken a moment to rest. He eventually fell asleep, and thats what accounted for him being down, and for his headache.
Kagome used her power to levitate Inuyasha, but she held her arms under him so that it just looked as if she was freakishly strong instead of just a plain old freak. Most of the kids were out that night, so she ran into no one on the way to her room.
When Kagome got him there she laid a fresh sheet on her bed and laid him on it. She took off all his strange clothes except his pants. She didn’t quite have the nerve to do that.
‘Nice chest’ Kagome thought as she stared at his well toned form. ‘Damn it, what’s with you girl? He’s bleeding to death and you’re thinking about his abs!’ she mentally screamed. Kagome used her power and Inuyasha’s limp body slowly rose from the bed and turned over, exposing his mutilated back. She began to work and Inuyasha’s body simply hovered there, about 2 inches from the bed.
He had stopped bleeding due to his demon blood and Kagome carefully cleaned his wounds. As she did she slowly infused some of her energy into him to help the healing process. As she treated him she finally had time to analyze the situation.
‘Okay, so Inuyasha is a demon, but there’s something off. He is obviously not human, but his aura isn’t that of a true demon. Also, if he was a real demon, why would he pose as a human? And why couldn’t I see through his concealing spell? None of this makes sense. . . unless. . . Is Inuyasha a hanyou?’ He was healing at a much faster rate then a half demon should. Actually, he was healing at a faster rate then that of a full demon should, even without her assistance. She could literally watch his skin as it knit back together.
Still, Kagome was the cautious type. She bandaged him and then lowered him back to the bed, to lay on his stomach. Kagome walked across the room to get some of the herbs she kept in the secret compartment of the black dragon box. “He must be very strong.” she thought aloud to herself.
Inuyasha had awoken when Kagome had gotten up to get herbs, so he heard her comment. ‘What is she doing? She brought me up here and treated my wounds? She knows what I am, and instead of killing me, she’s takin’ care of me? Then she says I’m strong? This whole situation is all fucked up.’ Inuyasha saw Kagome coming back with a handful of herbs and he feigned sleep.
Kagome looked at the sleeping boy and wondered when he would wake. She looked at the two fluffy ears on his head and smiled. “So Inuyasha, you’re a dog demon. No wonder you always bark at me.” Kagome said, barely containing a laugh. ‘Those ears are sooo cute. I can’t help it, I want to touch them. He is asleep. Maybe. . . just for a second.’
Kagome’s hands went out and began to rub his soft white ears in slow rhythmic circles. “So soft.” Kagome said in a low voice. She felt as if Inuyasha was whole this way. Whenever she saw him without the ears from now on she would feel as if he was missing something.
Inuyasha was in absolute heaven. Just less then a hour ago he had dreamt of almost this exact thing. Now she was actually doing it. All the people except Rin, Miroku, and Sango, that had known what he was had either tried to kill him or run away scared, but here Kagome was, rubbing his ears and making him seriously aroused. But being Inuyasha, he couldn’t say that or simply allow her to continue.
“Do you always molest people when they’re wounded, bitch?” Kagome blushed about 7 shades of crimson and snatched her hands back.
“No, and I wasn’t molesting you! Your ears are just so cute and soft I couldn’t help myself.” she said, her voice getting softer and softer till her voice was barely a whisper. Kagome was so embarrassed, but she had been caught red handed, so there was no reason to lie. In actuality, if she had been able to think of a believable lie she would have told it.
Inuyasha was speechless. He really hadn’t expected that answer and didn’t know how to respond to it. No one had ever called his ears cute. Disgusting yes, but cute, no. “Whatever bitch, just don’t do it again, my ears are sensitive you know.”
Inuyasha turned his head slowly and looked Kagome in the eye. She was still blushing. “So, why didn’t you kill me?” That shocked her out of her stupor.
“Why the hell would I kill you?” Kagome demanded, sounding pissed.
“I’m a hanyou, or didn’t you realize that when you molested my ears?” Inuyasha shot back. He was almost growling.
“I realized that you are a hanyou, but I don’t see why that is a good reason to kill you.” she saw his incredulous look and finally understood why he couldn’t believe that. Her anger ebbed away and she smiled at the prostrate demon.
“Look, I’m not stupid, and I am in no why naive, no matter what some people think. I know what most people think of hanyous. It just doesn’t matter to me.”
“It doesn’t matter to you? Most people hate or fear me and you don’t care?!? What is with you?” Inuyasha asked, truly angry. How could she make so light of something that had been held against him his whole life?
Kagome just smiled and half chuckled. “Most people are idiots Inuyasha. There is no reason to hate you, because over the time I have known you, though you acted like an ass, you still became my friend. I have no reason to fear you, because you put yourself in danger to save me earlier when you could have just let me die. You haven’t earned my hate, or fear. In fact, you are one of the few people who I trust.” The declaration came out a little awkward, and a tad rushed, but Kagome meant it. She hadn’t exactly realized she trusted Inuyasha till she said it, but Kagome realized that she did. She trusted him with her life.
Kagome carefully wiped some dirt off Inuyasha’s face with a wet cloth and began grinding up herbs with her mortar and pestle. She carefully mixed them in with some hot water. “Here drink this, it will help with the pain.” Inuyasha was still stunned that she had acted this way about him being a demon.
“I’m not a weak human, I don’t need any medicine.”
“Oh, is that so?” Kagome said with a very annoyed expression plastered on her face.
Kagome moved her hand in a quick motion, poking him in his side, very close, but not touching his wound.
“OOOOOWWWWW! Ow ow owowowowowOW! DAMN IT BITCH WHAT WAS THAT FOR!?!” Inuyasha yelled, trying to move away from Kagome but failing.
Kagome just smirked. “So the great half demon Inuyasha doesn’t NEED my medicine does he? Just drink it.” She said pushing the cup under his nose.
“No, it probably tastes like shit and where did you learn about medicine anyway? For all I know that shit could kill me.”
Kagome’s face softened seeing his defensiveness for what it was. After all, how would she react if someone found her out? She decided to try and go easy on the poor guy. “Listen Inuyasha, I learned medicine from my father, and trust me, this is actually a very good tasting brew. Please drink it. It will help me feel less guilty. I don’t want you to be in pain because of me.”
Inuyasha stared at her in awe. The last person to care for him so lovingly had been his mother. ‘Why does she care? I’m just a filthy half-breed, and yet she is so insistent on my comfort. It couldn’t just be guilt. Why is she so caring? How can someone be so god-damned selfless?’ Though his mind was singing her praises (more or less) he put up his regular gruff facade.
“If you really don’t want to hurt me wench, you’ll stop poking me.”
“Thats not what I mean and you know it” she said, her voice harsh but her smile wide and welcoming. Inuyasha flashed an equally wide, but extremely rare smile back at her.
“Feh, whatever bitch. Just hand over that sludge and let me get this over with.”
Inuyasha took a tentative sniff. It smelled delicious and it tasted even better. “Mmm, this stuff is tasty, and its actually making the pain go away.” Inuyasha said before he could help himself.
“I’m glad, now time to talk about some things.” Kagome said, sitting gently on the side of the bed.
Inuyasha choked on the herbal tea. “Damn, thought you’d forget.”
“Unlikely.” Kagome said, rubbing her finger swiftly over the edge of Inuyasha’s left ear. Kagome picked up Inuyasha’s hand and inspected his claws. “So, you’re a dog demon. I suppose you are related to Sesshomaru then.”
“Yeah. Half brother.” Inuyasha replied in his usual gruff voice.
“I like your claws.” Kagome commented offhandedly. Inuyasha couldn’t see what was so great about his claws and was about to take them back from her scrutinizing gaze, but she dropped them first. She moved quickly to his feet and looked at them with curious eyes.
“You even have claws on your feet. Is that why you usually go barefoot whenever you can?”
“Yeah” Inuyasha said, suddenly feeling very hot. She was basically massaging his feet as she looked and prodded them and it was having a very strange affect on his body.
She moved to his head and grabbed his face. He was still kind of unsure of what to do, so he simply let her. She placed her thumb on his lip and pulled it down and looked at his fangs. ‘Okay, I gotta stop this or I’m gonna just screw her right here and now. I am totally starting to understand the mind of Miroku.’ Inuyasha thought frantically.
“Hey haven’t you heard of personal space? I’m not some kind of new species. You can’t just inspect me at your will, bitch.” When he said it his voice was a tad huskier then he would have wanted, but it was effective none the less. Kagome snapped up and her face blushed prettily.
“Sorry, its just that, I was interested. Anyway I didn’t see you objecting earlier. If you had said something I would have stopped.” she said, a bit defensive.
The truth was, she had become entranced by Inuyasha. There was something about the wild, animalistic way he looked that was very appealing to her.
Seeing that Inuyasha wasn’t going to respond she continued. “So except for Sesshomaru is there anyone else who knows who you are?”
“Rin, Miroku, and Sango.” he replied without looking at her. He was still thinking about her comment about him stopping her. ‘Why didn’t I? That’s easy, I guess. I didn’t stop her cause I liked it, and I wish she was still doing it.’
“They know? I guess I can understand why you didn’t tell me, but. . . I’m still upset you didn’t trust me. Oh, well you had your reasons.” Inuyasha looked up at the amazingly understanding girl. When Sango had finally found out she had screamed at him till she was horse, but Kagome had simply accepted it.
Completely confused, and desperate to change the subject, Inuyasha brought up something that had been bothering him. “So, how did you get me in here? I’m not exactly light.” Kagome gave him adeadpan look, hoping that it would cover her uneasiness.
“I’m not as weak as I may look Inuyasha.”
“Okay, so why were you out in the woods in the first place? And where did you learn to use a sword? Why would you need to know? I saw your technique, it wasn’t for matches with rules and such. It was for actual defense in REAL fights. Explain. Now.”
Okay, Kagome was feeling really bad about lying to Inuyasha now. She knew his secret and yet she was still lying to him, but it couldn’t be helped. She decided that telling him as much of the truth as she could would be the best. “It’s a really long story Inuyasha. And can get quite boring.”
“I don’t doubt that, but I still want to know.”
Inuyasha had a look that told her plainly that he wouldn’t let her avoid the question. “Fine Inuyasha. I suppose it starts with my father. I don’t talk about him much. In fact you will be the first one I have told my story to. Before we start, I want you to promise to keep what I speak of confidential. My past is painful, and I don’t like to drudge it up.” Inuyasha was touched by her faith in him. “I promise. You- you can trust me. I swear.” And he meant it too.
