Chapter Two
What Now?

(1)

Her eyes fluttered open as the first rays of dawn reached their little tendrils of light down and tickled her eyelids as the trees whispered for her to wake. She brought a hand up to block the light, not wanting to wake, she was far too exhausted. She felt like she had been to hell and back, and people that had been to hell and back deserved their rest whether nature liked it or not.

She rolled over on side and felt something soft brush against her cheek. She ignored it, but it just kept on brushing against her, tickling her cheek. Finally, she gave up and rolled onto her other side, only to sit up straight with her eyes wide open because a loud squeal filled the air when she did. It was when she was fully awake that her senses kicked in.

Immediately her nose was assaulted with a million and one scents that made her head spin. Some were pleasant but others made her nose wrinkle in disgust. Then she looked and saw that the world had somehow become sharper and more vibrant than she remembered. She blinked a couple times, but it remained the same.

She looked over to what had so rudely woke her up and found that a small fox with the most peculiar coat she had ever seen looking up at her with wide, aqua green eyes. It’s coat was not the coppery red most foxes had, in fact, it didn’t even have one color. The shiny fur changed colors from red to copper to deep gold to various shades of red orange and yellow. And this all happened within the blink of an eye, it reminded Kagome of a fire the way the colors danced and flickered, some bright while others stayed dim.

The fox’s eyes shone brightly and it shyly crawled into her lap and nuzzled her stomach. Kagome didn’t know what to make of the fox and his actions, it was lost. Suddenly a memory flashed in her mind’s eye of a little fox demon doing the same. It was vivid and she clearly saw that she cared for the kit greatly. She heard herself say I love you and hug the kit close to her body. Kagome portrayed this emotion as joy and love.

So she tried to feel happy and she tried to smile but when she did, a searing pain shot through her head and heart, crippling her and causing her to curl up in a fetal position on the forest floor. The little fox yipped in surprise and jumped out of the way just before it was crushed. It looked on with sad and confused eyes at the young woman before it.

The pain was intense, spreading from her head to her heart where it manifested itself. It felt like with every beat of her heart the pain spread, coursing through her veins, reaching every part of her body and making her whimper and cry. But as soon as it had started, the pain stopped and disappeared.

She sat up and shakily looked around. She found nothing out of the ordinary except for the fox who was staring at her with something akin to sadness and pity in it’s eyes. Kagome once again tried to smile, but once again the pain came. This time though, it lasted longer and got a little bit harder, more intense than before. She gave a loud cry and fell to the ground, tremors shaking her small frame.

Once it subsided, she simply opened her eyes and looked up, not wanting to risk looking at the fox in fear of the pain. She gazed at the forest canopy and the small opening it had that she could see the sky through. It was a light blue and the clouds were tinted pink, signaling sunrise. She blinked and looked over at where the fox had been.

It was still there but it was pointing to the right, as if trying to lead her somewhere. She quirked an eyebrow and sniffed. A scent that she thought smelled like water wafted into her nose, along with other minor scents like the flora and the fauna and all that other good stuff. She also heard the gurgling of what she thought was a stream and decided that she could use a drink, and a bath for that matter.

She slowly got up and followed the fox until it stopped in front of a stream. It had plenty of large and small mossy stones and got gradually deeper as it went along. She spotted a particularly large stone in the deeper end and went to it, but stopped when she saw the fox.

It had spotted a butterfly the lingered over the middle of the stream, over a spot that didn’t have many rocks. It jumped from rock to rock in pursuit until it came to the last rock before open water. It crouched down, almost like a cat, and leapt for the butterfly who was unsuspectingly just flitting about in the same spot. But at the last moment the butterfly fly just out of reach and the fox landed face first in the water, giving a startled yelp.

Kagome found that this was amusing and laughed. In the first couple seconds she was afraid that the pain would come and it didn’t, at first. Soon after this thought left her head, the once melodic laughs and giggles turned into screams of agony as she dropped to the ground, falling partially into the water.

She didn’t understand, what did she do to deserve this? She thought back to before she woke up and remembered being with Naraku. He had lead her to a lily garden and told her that all her pain would be gone once he was done. It started to make sense now, when she had been standing in the lilies, she had felt nothing but pain then everything went black. The bastard had tricked her.

“Naraku! What the hell did you do to me?!” she screamed into the forest, listening to it echo. At first all was silent, but then a voice entered her head, making her jump in surprise.

‘I only did what you requested of me, my dear. You aren’t satisfied?’ he asked in a mocking tone. Kagome growled, what the hell did he think?

‘No I’m not satisfied, aaaah!’ she curled up in pain, the same searing pain coursing through her body once more. A deep chuckle filled her head, resonating in her skull mocking her with each repetition.

‘Come now my little miko, are you really that much of a fool that you haven’t figure it out yet? Surely someone of your educational standards and expanse would know.’ he said, once again in a mocking tone.

‘What the hell are you talking about?’

He sighed in disappointment. ‘Well if I must explain it to you, then I shall. You see I placed a spell on you-‘

’What kind of spell?’ she asked impatiently.

‘I’m getting tot that. Now as I was saying before you so rudely interrupted, I cast a spell on you. It was a ancient spell that took me years to find and perfect. It’s now forbidden, but I thought that since you were so desperate, I’d risk it, just for you.’ he purred.

Kagome could mentally see his crimson eyes lighting up with lust and amusement. She ignored it and asked her question. ‘It took you years to find it? But I was only down there for a couple of months. And you said you perfected it, so that means that you’ve done it before?’

He laughed, the deep baritone sound flowing through her head. ‘Curiosity killed the cat, my dear. ‘Yes it took me years to find it and yes I have used it before, and it worked perfectly.’

‘On who?’

There was a brief pause before he answered. ‘Kanna.’

Kagome’s eyes widened. So that’s what happened to her. ‘You made her that way? Why, what did the spell so?’

‘Yes I made her that way but I didn’t plan to, not originally.’

‘You still didn’t answer my question, what did the spell do? And what do you mean by plan?’

‘My, your are quite inquisitive. If you have to know, I had been planning to use the spell on someone once I came across it. As for what it does, the spell is a psychological and spiritual one. It affects the mind, soul, and heart. The first part of the spell alters your mind by making your memories and the emotions in them stronger and more prominent. The second part of the spell blocks the spiritual passages that your emotions use to get to your heart and soul. It also makes it so that whenever your mind thinks of an emotional experience.’

‘I don’t understand.’

‘Normally, if your memories and the emotions with in them weren’t enhanced, then the spell would have no effect because the spell was designed to make the victim feel pain whenever they experience any kind of strong emotion.’

It became clear to her, but why use the spell on her? ‘But why did you use it one me?’

“It that all you can do, ask questions? Anyway, that’s irrelevant. I used it on you because you said you wanted the pain to go away and since the pain you were feeling was emotional, the spell was perfect.’

‘But all it’s causing me is even more and worse pain! What the hell kind of logic did you use to come to that ass backwards conclusion?!’ she screamed, ignoring the pain that her rage was causing.

‘Well, earlier I said I had planned on using this on someone from the very beginning, so I couldn’t let the opportunity pass me by.’

Kagome froze. ‘You mean-‘

’Yes, you were the person I had planned on using it on all along. I’m afraid my time is up so I must be going now but I’ll talk to you very soon.’ he said as his voice faded from her mind, leaving it silent once more.

Deciding that she wouldn’t think about it until she bathed, she swiftly moved to the deeper part of the stream, disrobed, and slid in, ignoring the cool temperature. She was going to figure out how to beat this spell if it was the last thing she did.

He flew through the air, his demonic cloud trailing behind him as he neared his destination. It had only been about three hours since he had left his palace in search of the mysterious demonic aura. It had taken a lot less time than he thought since th aura suddenly appeared near the border between his lands and the southern ones.

It perplexed him how the aura could move from being all the way in the northern corner of Japan to all the way in the southwest in a matter of hours. He didn’t dwell on it though for it mattered not where it was but who it belonged to and if they were good or evil.

As he flew on, the aura became more noticeable and the surroundings changed. Soon he found himself flying toward a forest that was known to harbor many spiritual beings and magic. It was also well known that the center of the forest, near a small stream, was the holiest place in all of Japan, even before Mt. Hakurei was destroyed.
The only reason the mountain was considered the purest of the pure was because the secret of the forest was a well kept one and only a select few were chosen to guard it. But once the mountain collapsed, there needed to be another holy spot to keep the balance. So the location and powers of the Hayashi no Seiitsu were revealed.

It struck him as odd that a demon with such a strong aura would be in the forest but he didn’t dwell on if for he was already there and starting his decent. He found himself following the aura deeper and deeper into the forest, toward the legendary spring. He stopped when he reached a spot.

He landed on a tree branch nearby the spring and let his searching amber orbs survey the landscape to see if the mysterious demon was here. Soon, his gaze fell upon a figure in the pure spring. They apparently were bathing, and once his eyesight adjusted, figured that the they was a she. Sesshomaru scoffed, surely the aura couldn’t belong to this demoness?

He was thrown off because all the demonesses he had ever encountered were usually weak and had auras the size of humans but this one was different. As he looked closer, he could see her features more clearly, and he had to admit, he liked her features.

The woman stood from the waist deep stream and revealed herself unknowingly to hungry amber eyes. Her smooth, creamy, moonlight colored skin glittered in the early afternoon sun due to the crystalline water droplets that clung to her body.

He noted that she had a nice slender neck, like one of a swan, and he found himself wanting to kiss and nip along it. Her lovely neck soon gave way to petite and lightly muscled shoulders that he could imagine having a small crescent moon on. ‘Where the hell did that come from? Surely she does not deserve the mark of the west.’As his gaze moved downward, his member stirred to life.

Soon, her creamy mounds came into view, making his already semi hard member even harder. They were perfect, large enough for him to fit in his equally large hands, but not too small to leave him unsatisfied. As a breeze blew through the area, the once dormant rosy buds hardened into peaks. She shivered and made her mounds bounce a little, only adding to Sesshomaru’s already painful erection.

He tore himself away from her breasts and forced his eyes to look at her stomach which was flat and perfectly toned, and her stomach gave way to voluptuous hips that swayed as she waded through the water to a shallower spot. As she turned, he got a wonderful view of her firm, round backside that made him impossibly hard.

He stifled a moan as she looked around for something, taking her sweet time, oblivious to what she was causing within him. He glanced down to see that he had a large tent in his hakamas and growled. ‘What the hell is she doing to me? I don’t even know her yet she has me aroused to the point of pain, and groaning no less! This is ridiculous, I shall not be swayed by some weak demon female with a physically attractive body, at the most, she might get the privilege to adorn my chambers but that is all.’ he thought stubbornly as he silently snorted and turned his nose in the air.

But after a while, this action lost its appeal and he found himself looking for the young onna who, had by this time, found a large, flat rock and laid herself out on it to sundry. In Sesshomaru’s eyes, though, she was like an exotic food put on a silver platter and was being displayed, and he was a starving beggar that desired her.

Before he could register what his body was doing, he found himself crouched in the bushes quite near the stream’s edge, gazing once more at the young demoness. Now that he was closer he could make out her facial features which had been indiscernible because of his high vantage point.

Now he could see that she had perfectly sculpted eyebrows that arched over closed eyes, which in turn were laced with a thick fringe of long, black eyelashes. She also had a small, delicately sloped nose that turned up at the end, and he couldn’t help but think that it was cute and oddly similar to Rin’s.

She had a soft jaw line and full, red lips, the color of a rose, that were slightly parted. He also noticed that she had the pointed ears of a youkai that were adorned by silver hoops, three on the right ear, two on the left, all of them varying in size. The whiteness of her skin was greatly contrasted by the darkness of her hair, which was an odd color, even by demon standards.

Her long tresses that fanned out and reached down to tickle the backs of her knees, were a rich red color, like blood. But one wouldn’t know this unless the sun shone on it because in shadow, it looked black. Once he had taken all of this in, he tried to find a matching face in his memory because he couldn’t help but realize that she seemed familiar.

After a long pause, his mind provided him with an image of a young girl, a human girl with long black hair, sapphire eyes and pink lips. It was his brother’s wench, the miko that had made several feeble attempts to harm him and in one, costed him a perfectly good set of armor which had really pissed him off.

But it couldn’t be her, she was a human! Humans didn’t just transform into youkai overnight, it was simply not done! The only reasonable explanation was that she had mated with an incredibly powerful demon, but he did not smell a male on her for which a part of him was strangely glad about. She was still pure except for the slight malice he felt in her aura.

He had thought of the possibility of it not being possible because she was a miko but there were such things as youkai mikos, though there were none in current existence. His mind once again brushed the possibility of her being mated, but she bore no mark, and he knew this because he had seen practically every inch of her smooth, pale skin that was just begging for his- . He stopped himself right there, not wanting to continue the thought.

He was so deep in thought that he didn’t know that he had uncloaked his aura and scent, alerting her of his presence. This was highly unusual for him. This current state of deep thought also caused him to snap a twig as he stood to jump back into a tree. This was practically irregular for him.

(3)

Kagome lifted her head when she heard a snap in the bushes beside her, instantly alert, hands already trying to cover her figure from habit. “Who’s there? If you reveal yourself now and without attacking me, then I won’t be forced to hurt you,” she said evenly, inching toward her clothes.

Sesshomaru’s pride and ego had to say something and he stepped out of the bushes into her full line of vision. “As if you could. Such a weak female couldn’t even hope to get near me let alone touch me to do me any kind of harm,” he stated cooly.

Kagome tried her best to stay calm and not show any kind of emotion in fear that the pain would return. Damn Naraku to hell and back. The one time she really wanted to be mad, she couldn’t because the fucking bastard had to go and put a stupid spell thingy on her.

“Don’t act so cocky Sesshomaru, it just might be your downfall,” said Kagome, trying to hide the irritation in her voice.

“Wench you speak as if you know me, yet we haven’t met, so I suggest you watch your tongue before I do something you might regret,” he said, his tone warning. Well if this was indeed his half brother’s wench, then she definitely had the attitude right, but he still couldn’t place her as a demon.

‘Keep cool, Kagome, just ignore him and he’ll go away.’ she thought as she clenched and unclenched her fists. With only a couple words, he was already under her skin, and it pissed her off. “Is there something that you want from me? Because you engaging a conversation with me then not saying anything is a waste of my time.”

Sesshomaru growled, how dare she think she can just talk to him like that? “This Sesshomaru is not wasting your time and he never engaged any kind of conversation with you, wench.”

“If you say so,” said Kagome as she started to walk away. But when she heard a deep baritone chuckle from behind her she stopped and turned around, face blank. “Is there something you find amusing?”

“Well if you are going to prance around the forest where others can see you then this Sesshomaru would suggest putting your clothes back on.” At that, Kagome’s face lit up with an embarrassed blush. On the inside she was angry and in a momentary lapse of judgement and awareness she let emotion slip.

“You, you HENTAI! How could you just stand there look at me, naked, without shame?! God, you’re just as bad as- AHHHHH!” pain erupted in her chest and spread through her body at an alarming rate, setting her senses on fire and splitting her head in two.

She screamed and dropped to the forest floor, falling back in the stream, her back landing on a sharp rock. She screamed louder as the spear like boulder was impaled in her back and through her stomach. Sesshomaru was just about to walk away, when she did something that surprised him. She placed her arms on either side of the rock, lucky that there were other rocks there for support, and began to push herself up and off.

She still screamed, but managed to free herself from the mineral prison and flung herself onto the bank. She was panting heavily and her vision swam from the blood loss, but she struggled to get up. Sesshomaru watched in amazement as she pulled herself up to a tree and used the trunk to haul herself up to a standing position.

Kagome was in pain, a pain that wasn’t anywhere close to being comprehensible, or natural. She was in pain from the injury and since pain was an emotion, the spell activated and only brought on more pain. It was a vicious and never ending cycle that could only be broken if she was killed, or healed. At this point, she preferred the latter, but with the knowledge that she would probably have to live the rest of her life under this accursed spell, she didn’t know if living was worth it.

But she wouldn’t dwell on such things now because, she did want to live long enough to kill Naraku and the only way to do that was to heal herself. She could already fell the tingling sensation that hinted her new youkai body was beginning to heal, but she needed it to go faster than that.

“Sesshomaru,” she gasped, “give me your sword.” Sessshomaru looked at her as though she had grown another head. Here he was, just admitting that she was a brave, if not totally insane, onna that deserved a minimal amount of respect. But she just ruined the moment with that question.

“No.”

Kagome rolled her eyes, “I’m not gonna do anything with it, just need to borrow it for a moment,” she said, coughing up blood. Sesshomaru remained impassive. The last thing he would do would be to let anyone, other than himself, touch his swords. Asking to do so was like begging for death.

“What could a weak girl such as myself possibly do to your swords? The worst that could happen would be that I would get blood on it, and since it already had plenty of blood baths, it wouldn’t be a big deal. And if you get lucky, it might just kill me.”

Sesshomaru frowned, Tenseiga was a sword of life and healing, how could it kill anything except the living dead? “Tenseiga is a sword of healing and even if I wanted to use it on you, it does not call to me,” he said, still not understanding what she wanted.

“I’m not talking about Tenseiga, I want Tokijin,” she said as if it were the most obvious thing in the world. If her hunch was correct, the Tokijin would help her more then Tenseiga ever could.

Sesshomaru couldn’t believe what he just heard. The wench had the audacity to ask him to use his sword, the one he that had been specifically crafted for him, and him alone. “Do you really desire death that much? Tokijin’s evil demonic aura would kill you in an instant, either that or corrupt you.”

Kagome was getting impatient. “Just give me the damn sword and I won’t castrate you! The aura won’t do anything to me, I assure you.”

“Your assurance means nothing, you are not getting the sword and I would advise you to stop asking before I speed up your inevitable death,” he growled.
Kagome decided on a different approach since the forward one wasn’t working. “If I asked you to trust me, would you?” she asked, no emotion in her voice.

Sesshomaru was caught off guard by her question, but decided it was worth thinking about. Would he trust her? He had no reason not to, she hadn’t done anything that would make him think otherwise, but then again she hadn’t earned it either. Not that he trusted people easily, but she still hadn’t earned it. He doubted that she would try to deceive him, her scent didn’t smell of deceit.

In all the times he had encountered her, she had always been honest, strong, in her own way, and brave even when death was breath down the back of her neck. She was true to his half brother even when he repeatedly hurt her and he admired that, but he was till skeptical on the whole trusting her thing.

Besides, what could she do with the sword? He doubted she could even lift it let alone use it. She was a pure creature and Tokijin was a sword of pure evil and a clash between the two could be catastrophic. But still, part of him wanted to see what she planned on doing since she seemed so sure of herself and it was that part of him that overpowered the doubt and agreed.

“I would, you haven’t done anything to make me think anything else and you do not smell like you are lying. But I still wish to know why you request Tokijin.”

Kagome would be relieved if it wouldn’t cause her pain, so she just nodded. “So you trust me?” her answer was a crisp nod, “then please lend me your sword.”

Sesshomaru reluctantly unsheathed the evil sword and stalked over to where Kagome leaned heavily on the trunk of a tree. He hesitated but placed the blade in her outstretched hand, his eyes narrowing. He stepped back and watched, wanting to see if she would indeed die.

Once the hilt of the sword made contact with her palm, Kagome’s vision went blurry. She tried to sees something, anything, but all there was was black. It was then that she heard the voice. It was then she realized she really hated having mental conversations, especially with people, or objects, she didn’t know or downright loathed.

‘Who is this that calls me? I can tell by your aura that it is not Sesshomaru-sama.’ said the sword. Though she couldn’t see it, the sword had enveloped her in it’s blue aura. This was what enabled communication between the two.

‘I am the miko Kagome.’

‘A miko? Do not try to deceive me, no miko or human for that matter would be able to come near me let alone touch me without some kind of physical or mental pain. If you were truly a miko, then you would have died.’

‘I am not only a miko but a youkai as well, that is why I feel no pain.’

‘Hmm. That would explain your interesting aura. It is pure at its core but evil and darkness surround it. It seems you have undergone some kind of transformation. Tell me child, what manner of magic made you this way?’

‘True I was originally a human miko but a spell was cast upon me and my current state of being was a side effect, though this is only a guess for I know not why I have become a youkai.’

‘I see. You were very powerful when you were just a human miko, a match for Sesshomaru, if you had been trained.’

‘I am flattered but I was nothing close to powerful.’

‘You doubt me? True if you had been pitted against him, you would have lost, that much is certain. But if you had been properly trained, then you would have stood a chance against him.’

‘That may be, but it is irrelevant now. You said before that I had evil and darkness surrounding my aura, did you not?’

‘I did.’

‘Then it must be true that my powers, however strong or weak they were, are now gone. A miko’s aura and soul must remain pure for her to achieve any level of higher power, and mine is now tainted.’

‘Child, you forget what else I said. True that your aura is tainted by evil but I also said that it was still pure at the core. And your powers have not diminished, quite the contrary actually. You have grown in strength and with proper training, could beat Sesshomaru.’

‘Oh.’

‘Anyway, we are getting off subject, what is it that you called me here for, girl?’

‘Well I was wondering if you could heal me?’

‘Why would I need to heal you? You’re a miko, don’t they have healing powers?’

‘Yes, but since the spell turned me into a demon, if I tried to heal myself, my demonic powers would contradict my miko abilities and the result would be worse than what I already have.’

‘You are smart, but what makes you think I can heal you, I am evil after all.’

‘Your aura maybe evil, but your soul, I can tell, is not pure, but not tainted. Besides, it’s because your aura is evil that I need you. Evil can heal evil better than good can heal evil, I know that it goes against the current theories but it’s true.’

‘I will heal you on two conditions; one, you will use me in at least one of your battles; two, you will talk to me whenever you can. You are the most entertainment I’ve seen in centuries and I’m not about to let you go.’

‘But you were only forged a couple of years ago.’

‘But my soul is much, much older, little one. Now I want you to relax.’

Kagome tensed as soon as she heard those words. Relaxing had been one of the key factors that had gotten her into this mess in the first place, but she complied. She felt a moment of lightheadedness before nothing. She felt nothing. No pain, no burning, nothing.

Sesshomaru just stared at her, for what seemed like the millionth time in the span of a couple hours. This is why he didn’t want to giver her the sword, he knew something bad was going to happen. He watched on as she sat up and blinked, looking much like a newborn pup after it opened its eyes for the first time.

Kagome looked at Sesshomaru, her eyes finally focusing on him. She frowned when she saw that he was just staring at her again. “Is there something that you find interesting?” she asked.

“Give me my sword and look for yourself.”

Kagome shrugged and leaned over the water’s edge to see what Sesshomaru had gotten his loin cloth in a knot about. When her reflection looked back up at her, she wanted to die. “What the hell happened now?1”

Well here’s the 2nd chapter finally. Sorry it took so long but I had a lot to do. I finally took some initiative and started planning my chapters ahead of time instead of sitting down at the computer and making it up as I go along. So I was busy planning the next five chapters for every one of my stories, that’s like, 20 chapters, so don’t blame me cuz it was late.

I kno this is a cliffy but since u guys haven’t had one yet. And I apologize ahead of time if there is any bad grammar I was in a hurry. I usually proof read it like 3 or 4 times but I only got to do it once. Hope u enjoyed it, R&R! ^__^ *

Ja ne!
