Chapter VI The fight

Over the next couple of weeks a lot of things happened. Inuyasha, Locke, and Miroku all helped each other with building of the three new houses. It went a lot faster because of the two demons. Kaede performed a marriage service for all three couples.

Locke went into the woods to meditate. What brought him out was the smell of smoke. He looked at the village. There was no much smoke for it to be a fire. He didn't need to reach the village to understand what was going on, he could smell the demon from a while back. Naraku had a few hundred demons with him, all destroying the homes of the villagers. Inuyasha, Miroku, Sango, Kagome, Shippou, Raquet, and Kilala were all spaced out around the houses, each using what they could to help kill off the demons.

As Miroku sucked in another demon in his air void dozens of Naraku's insects came, causing the monk to absorb a few before closing his hand with his cloth and rosary. He then picked up his staff, swinging it around to slice some of the yellow bugs.

Meanwhile Sango was running about, gracefully swinging her fixed boomerang around, killing more than one demon at once as it came back to her. She was skilled in the matter of demons, and she didn't want anyone getting hurt because she was too slow.

Raquet and Kagome was farther away from her shooting her arrows at the demons, most missing but a few hit. Shippou was by their side shooting his foxfire at any demon that showed themselves. Kilala was off in another direction, closer to Sango, also fighting off the demons.

<How could I have not sensed this? > He asked himself. Then he realized that Naraku must have masked off his scent until he smelled Locke coming, a devious thing to do in any case. The Locke took out his sword and jumping in the air and landing to strike at the evil hanyou. Naraku was out of his aim in an instant, Inuyasha landing on the bare ground without harming him.

"So good of you to come." he said in a deep voice. He had waited until sunrise to come and attack the village, telling all of his minions to kill everything and everyone. His only goal was to get the jewel and become an all powerful demon. That's when Inuyasha jumped in the charge at Naraku.

"You bastard!" cried Inuyasha before jumping again, swinging his sword and managing to slightly cut into the hanyou. Dark eyes looked into is before Naraku was in front of his face, shooting his arm through Inuyasha's chest. He pulled out quickly and took a step back. He was ready to strike again when a arrow shot into his left shoulder, pulling his arm back, giving Inuyasha the right amount of time to move away.

The arrow burned him, it was surrounded by a red glow. He wondered how the reincarnation of Kikyou could possess such power, to bring harm to him. 'She will die.' he thought.

She looked at him. "I've been practicing my miko powers." she yelled at him. Naraku was right. He quickly aimed for the girl but Inuyasha ran his sword though his chest. The hanyou had been momentarily paralyzed from the arm coming though him, but he was fine now. He pulled the sword back, it was covered with black blood.

While he was looking back at the hanyou and preparing his next attack, a large boomerang hit him square in the back, knocking him into the ground. She and Miroku had finished off all of the smaller demons, leaving various sized corpses on the ground. Miroku stood by her side, ready to use his wind tunnel. He hadn't been effected by the small amount of insects he had taken in yet. Locke jumped from behind Naraku and dug his sword through his shoulder and into the ground.

Naraku got up from the ground and looked around. These six fools were just asking for their death when an unsuspected thing happened. Kagome shot an arrow with her part of the jewel attached to it, hitting Naraku in his right arm. He grinned evilly to the miko. He now controlled to power. She was letting in end easily. Locke jumped from behind Naraku and dug his sword through his shoulder and forced Naraku to the ground and thrusted his sword into the ground.

Then Kagome ran to Naraku, no longer holding her arrows. All she had to do was touch him…

"Kagome! What the hell did you do!" cried a mad dog hanyou, watching her run to Naraku. She grabbed a hold of his right arm, holding on tight to him. A pale aura sprang around the two as Kagome focused all of her power on the evil hanyou she was grasping.

"Get off of me wench," he said, trying to shake her off. A strong feeling was filling him up. He couldn't explain what was happening, but he was feeling himself being drained. He tried even harder to push her off of him. Inuyasha had no clue what the girl, his mate, was doing, but it looked to be damaging to the evil hanyou.

He came up behind her, keeping Naraku still as she held on tight. Without him, Kagome looked like she was ready to fall off. He grasped her hands and helped her hold onto Naraku, whispering encouragement into her ear. Locke put his foot on Karaku's arm.

In a matter of seconds the aura began fading, Kagome falling into Inuyasha's waiting arms. Naraku looked at the hanyou before he slowly disintegrated into the air. The complete jewel fell to the ground with a tiny clink. Inuyasha pulled Kagome into a more comfortable position so he could reach down and pick up the jewel. He smiled and kissed her forehead. They had won, they had defeated Naraku.

Inuyasha turned to see Miroku hugging Sango, spinning her around. He had taken off the cloth around his hand, revealing that it was now whole. His curse was lifted. Sango then realized something as she was sprawled off the ground. Her brother wasn't coming back, Naraku must have already killed him since the jewel was complete. A single tear rolled down her cheek. Miroku wiped it away. He could see the pain in her eyes, noting to ask her about it later. Shippou was bounding up to him. He latched onto the hanyou's leg.

"We won." he said excitedly.

Raquet had jumped into Locke's chest, knocking him to the ground. In a matter of seconds they were kissing and hugging each other.

He didn't care at the moment, Kagome had fainted, and he needed to find Kaede so she could heal his mate. The hanyou put the jewel around her neck. They came up to find her hut empty, but she walked into the door as Inuyasha settled Kagome on the futon.

"What happened?" he asked worriedly.

Kaede sighed, both she and Kagome had been working hard for the past few weeks harvesting Kagome's abilities so she could use them. "After she shot the arrow at Naraku containing the Shikon No Tama, she was able to purify the jewel and destroy Naraku being that she is a miko." she stated. It was hard to explain, but somehow being Kikyou's reincarnation granted Kagome her sister's powers.

"Fix her." he said, pointing at Kagome's listless body. The old women nodded and checked Kagome for any symptoms, but found nothing wrong with her from the outside.

"She wore herself out, let her rest for a few days and she will be fine." Inuyasha picked up the girl and headed off to their house, the rest of the group saw and followed them. Once inside, he settled Kagome on their futon, taking off her shoes and pulling a blanket over her. Shippou made his way into the room and lied down next to her. Inuyasha didn't feel like fighting with the kit, so he walked out of the room.

Miroku, Sango, Locke and Raquet were standing in the doorway. "What are we going to do with the jewel?" asked Sango.

"We'll decide when Kagome wakes up." he said, before heading out of the door. "We have to clear up the village."

The four followed him, happy that the jewel was now complete.

"After two years," Inuyasha said with a laugh, "We all lived to be very very good friends."

The girl woke up two days later, the first thing she saw were a pair of golden eyes. She gave Inuyasha a wiry smiled. "What happened?" she whispered hoarsely.

Inuyasha brushed the bangs out of her eyes. She had finally woken up, he was worried that she might not have, despite having Kaede reassure him every other minute. "You purified the jewel and destroyed Naraku." he replied.

Kagome smiled, so it was over, Naraku was finally gone. "What about Miroku's hand?" she asked.

He smiled, Kagome always put others before herself. "The curse is gone." he moved to get up but Kagome grabbed his hand. She got up from the futon, walking on shaky legs to wrap her arms around Inuyasha.

"We need to find a use for the jewel soon, I don't want Kagome to get into trouble." said Inuyasha, now sitting in Kaede's hut with the rest of his group. "I don't want to be a full demon anymore." he whispered, everyone staring at him, but none surprised.

"Do you have any ideas Kagome?" asked Miroku from across the room.

She sighed, something had been nagging her in the back of her mind, but she had never found the time to bring it up. "Inuyasha, won't I die before you?" she asked timidly. Inuyasha looked puzzled then realized what she was talking about.

"When demons take on human mates, the mark gives them and their future pups the average life span of a demon." he stated, as if he expected Kagome to know that already. She let out a sigh, relieved that she wasn't going to end up leaving Inuyasha alone.

"Couldn't we wish that everyone harmed or killed by Naraku to come back?" she asked, eyeing everyone in the hut. Everyone stopped talking on a dime. That seemed like a logic thing to do, everyone they lost or were lost could come back.

Sango clasped her hands together. "What a wonderful idea Kagome!" she cried. A tear welled up in her eye at the thought of talking with her family again, and introducing Miroku to everyone.

She got up and walked over to Kaede who had been silent though out the conversation. She knew what Kagome wanted to ask her. "Just close ye eyes and wish for what ye want." she said. The girl walked back to Inuyasha and sat down. Kagome closed her eyes and thought of the wish they all agreed on. A few sparks came off of the jewel before it became pale in her hands. No one expected it to be that simple. Was that it?

Kagome looked up to Inuyasha and smiled. "I guess that's it. We waited so long and I guess that's all that was needed to end the power of the jewel." It was done, no one had to protect the jewel again. But it still held an important part in her life. Because of it she was brought back into the past to meet Inuyasha and all of her friends. She paused Inuyasha, who had planned to brake it. She slipped the chain and jewel around her neck, no one said anything.

"Oh, great." Inuyasha said sadly, "Locke. Tomorrow both you and me will be human. "

"Why? "

"The full moon. It makes us demon become human. "

Night had come and the group had spilt up to their homes. Sango was preparing Miroku's food when she felt slightly queasy, so she sat down. Miroku walked in to find her holding her stomach.

"What's wrong Sango?" he asked, kneeling at her side.

She shrugged, but decided to tell him. "I've been getting sick a lot lately."

Miroku sat down and gently took her hand. "Does that mean you're…that we're going to…" The monk couldn't complete his thoughts.

"I am and we are." she smiled as he wrapped his arms around her, momentarily forgetting the tension in her stomach.
