Chapter 1
The End
Inuyasha stared gravely ahead unable to look away from the debris and rubble that once was Kaede's village. The battle had waged on for days and he was exhausted in every sense of the word. Kagome stood by his side her gaze set on the hanyou leaning against his sword for support.
"Inuyasha..." she began but trailed off as he didn't answer. He must of been too lost in thought to even utter the simplest sound, not a grunt, a mumble or a groan could escape his lips. It was over. The battle was done. Finally Naraku was finished and Kikyo's death and suffering avenged. And the group now stood motionless together the sun setting on an endless body lain battle ground.
Miroku was the first to break the silence "where do we go from here?" he asked and after a short pause he added "since the Shikon no Tama has been restored we no longer need to search for jewel shards so...it appears we are free to go on our separate ways."
Sango nodded somberly eyes filled with silent tears that she shed freely for her younger brother Kohaku who had been lost in the fight. She didn't know where she would go; Naraku had slain not just her family but most of her village as well. She looked to the monk beside her who had once promised to be with her, and she wondered has he forgotten?
The heavy awkward silence hung above the friends like a dense fog rolling in on a long country road at night. Where would they go from here? The question seemed to hang there like fog and it weighed heavy on their minds like boulders crushing them, especially Kagome who was having a hard time gaining her composure. The thought of never seeing Inuyasha again, her Inuyasha, was almost too much for the poor girl to tolerate.
Sango eyed her friend with a look meant to convey both comfort and concern. Kagome tired to return the look with both bravery and sorrow. Her gaze now returning to the hanyou next to her she thought, he doesn't look very upset.
"Sounds good to me," Kagome said with false cheer. "I mean it's about time, isn't it? I'm sure we're all glad to see this quest end, right Inuyasha?" She asked.
"Yea" said the hanyou in a kind of hollow tone; it was like he was not all there. He had spent so much time and energy thinking about hunting down Naraku he hadn't even thought about what would happen after. Hell, he hadn't even been sure he would make it out of this damn fight alive and now... it was over, and the Shikon jewel repaired. The jewel... as his thoughts turned so did his head. Inuyasha locked eyes with Kagome for just a second but that was long enough for her to see his intent. Damn... he thought.
Kagome knew at once what Inuyasha was thinking and god damn him she thought, if after all this...after all they had seen and gone through he didn't still want the jewel, so he could...he still wanted to be a full demon. She couldn't believe it, no wouldn't believe it.
