InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Enigma of Power ❯ When Dates Go Astray ( Chapter 3 )
Kagome sat in the restaurant with Hojo, for once enjoying herself in his company. He would not stop treating her as though she was made of glass, but she could deal with that so long as she had his company. It was nice to be on a date and act like a normal seventeen-year-old girl. After dinner they planned on a movie, and then perhaps dancing at a local club. She had insisted on having an entire weekend to herself and Inuyasha had not been up for arguing. Hojo paid for dinner and they left the restaurant. Kagome slipped her hand into his arm as they left. The movie was a horror flick, and though it didn't bother her much, she screamed at all the appropriate moments and gripped his hand, burying her face against his arm during the particularly scary parts. In the parking lot he slipped an arm around her shoulders and she rested her head against his chest.
"Kagome, there's a park nearby if you want to sit down for a moment."
She bit down on the inside of her cheek to keep the smile from her lips. "That sounds like a good idea."
He guided her into the park and they found a secluded bench to sit on. Hojo sat and drew her down onto his lap. He smiled at her nervous look and tilted her head back. The moon shone down on her, making her skin seem ghostly pale. His hand caressed her face gently, seeking silent permission.
"Get up! Both of you!"
Their heads snapped around. A man in a dingy jacket holding a small black pistol stood watching them. Slowly they both rose, raising their hands so he would know they were not armed.
"You wallet and your purse! Now!"
Kagome lifted her purse and held it out for him so that the strap, looped around her hand, dangled downward. He reached for it and she felt a tiny surge of elation as his hand came through the loop of strap. She tightened it around his wrist with a snap and yanked him toward her. Her other fist slammed into his face and he was thrown backwards by the force. Kagome kicked the gun from his hand and rested a foot across his throat applying gentle but steady pressure.
"Two things: one, if your going to rob someone, use a real gun, and two, where I come from, if you're going to kill someone, you do it." He made a soft choking noise, his eyes wide with fear. She gave him a smile so cold Sesshomaru would have been proud. "I suggest you find yourself a new line of work."
She released him and he scrambled to his feet, leaving the toy gun on the ground in his haste. Hojo gaped at her as she replaced her purse. "How did you know the gun was a fake?"
She picked it up and tossed it to him. "No safety. Every gun has a safety, can't leave the factory without it."
He shook his head. He never would have noticed so minute a detail. "Maybe I should take you home, it's late and so much excitement can't be good for your rheumatism."
She sighed but nodded, making a mental note to give her grandfather a piece of her mind tomorrow morning. Hojo walked her to the train station and gave her a demure kiss on the cheek before seeing her off. She stood, too edgy to sit, and watched the city go by. She'd probably scared him with that little stunt. She was spending entirely too much time with Inuyasha she decided. That was the only explanation for what had just happened. She got off the train and decided she needed to talk to someone. Her mother was not expecting her home for several hours and besides, her mother didn't have an ill-tempered bone in her body, how could she possibly help explain such violent and anger filled impulses? So she slipped into the well house and climbed down the ladder. A short jump later she climbed out in feudal Japan and started making her way to Kaede's village.
