Kagome sat stiffly for the six hour ride back to where she had left her friends. All the while she fought the angry tears that threatened to overtake her. Sesshomaru simply did not know what to do. Her speech had little to do with what he'd done, and at the same time, everything. What made it all the more galling was that, deep down, he knew she was right. He was a poor Lord at best and dismal failure at worst. Still, there was time to change, and that meant setting this situation to rights. He saw the tree and landed Ah-Un in a small clearing nearby. He sought out and found Inuyasha. The hanyou was guiding the others to him, now that he had caught his brother's scent on the wind. Kagome dismounted and started walking. Sesshomaru followed her.

"Kagome wait." She did not stop. Up ahead he could see her friends. He touched her shoulder. "Kagome…"

She whirled and slapped him so hard the sound reached her friends. "Don't…you have no right to speak to me."

Angry tears began to course their way down her face. "Please, Kagome…"

"No! I will not listen to you for another second. I am sick of all you platitudes of loftiness, I am sick of your damned superiority, and I am sick of you!"

The others ran up behind her confusion clearly written into their faces. He waved his hand placing an opaque barrier between them. "Do you love him?"

"What does that have to do with a damn thing?"

"Do you love him?!"

"Why do you care?" Her voice was cold and hard. "You are just a heartless bastard who's never loved anyone but himself."

He reached for her shoulder again. "Kagome…"

"Don't touch me! You have lost all rights to…to…" The tears renewed themselves, coursing down her face.

"He's not even human."

"Neither am I. Admit it, Sesshomaru, you never gave a damn about me until you began to think I wasn't human. You don't even know what I am."

"Neither do you." He touched her shoulder again and this time she did not push him away. "Please…I…I was jealous, I still am."

She looked into his eyes, shocked by the genuineness of his emotions. That was when it hit her. He wasn't wearing the same icy expression she had always seen before. There was no anger or malice in his eyes. The tears slowly stopped as she gazed at him. He was being honest, completely honest with her. She took a step back.

"I forgive you." She whispered softly.

"I never asked for your forgiveness."

"But you have it anyway. Good bye Sesshomaru-sama."

She turned, dissolving the barrier and rejoined her companions. He watched as they disappeared into the forest, leaving Inuyasha in the clearing with him.

"Will Subaru want her again?"

Sesshomaru shrugged his icy mask once more in place. "I don't know, probably. Your wench managed to impress her."

He turned and mounted his dragon once more. Inuyasha watched as Sesshomaru took off and flew into the night. A small part of him expected his half-brother to turn and attack, but the rest of him knew that they had called a truce for the time.
