Later that night, the children asleep on the mat next to them, Sesshomaru lay holding Kagome in his arms. He did not want to let her go, did not want to be separate from her for even a moment, but he knew it had to be. She had to break her ties with her home and with her friends. If any of his enemies knew about them, they could be used to hurt her. Inuyasha could take care of himself, but Sango, Miroku, and Kaede were human. Though they were strong, they were not strong enough. Kagome stirred in his arms and he looked down at her. Sapphire eyes stared back at him.

"What are you thinking?"

"I…was just dreaming on tomorrow."

She laughed softly, burying her face in his chest. He heard her inhale and was momentarily pleased that she took such pleasure in his scent. She looked up at him.

"I'll be glad to get back to a place where I can take a bath."

"I believe that is how we got into trouble in the first place." She smiled, a blush staining her cheeks and though he could not see it, he could feel the heat of it against his skin. "Do you regret that meeting?"

She jumped, startled by the question. "No."

He bent, his face nuzzling her neck gently. She sighed softly, her body arching against his. "You are willing to be my mate?"

"Hai."

"Will you let me mark you? No other would dare question my claim on you or yours on me. No other youkai would dare to touch you or offer you harm."

"Would…would Inuyasha be able to detect it?"

"I don't know…his nose is sensitive, but not nearly as sensitive as a full blooded youkai. It is hard to say."

"It doesn't matter…he will have to find out eventually. What does it involve?"

"An exchange of blood."

He felt her stiffen slightly. He knew that might scare her after her ordeal. His lips found hers, comforting her with soft kisses. Gently he drew her lip into his mouth. It took only a second for his fang to graze it, then he was drinking of her. He felt her gasp and shudder, the scent of her arousal built. He bit his own lip and let her drink. After a moment he pulled back.

"If we do not stop this soon, we will not be able to."

She nodded. "Was that it?"

"Hai."

She buried her face against his chest once more as she struggled to control her breathing. "You'll have to remind me to do that again sometime. It was kind of fun."
