Kagome awoke on the silken bed and stretched languishing in the comfort. She had her old room in Subaru's house. Somehow, being here was almost as good as being with Kaede. Both women treated her like a daughter or perhaps a granddaughter and she liked the feeling. She rose, twitching the covers back into place before rinsing her face from a basin and dressing in a soft rose kimono. She left her sword and her bow in search of the kitchen. Sanji was already there, a cup of tea in his hands. She saw disappointment and also relief in his eyes when he saw her. She took the offered cup of tea with a smile.
“Arigatou.”
“No, Kagome-sama, it is I who should thank you. I do not know if I ever had a chance at winning your affections, but I do know that what you have done to Sesshomaru is nothing short of a miracle.”
“I haven't done anything.”
“You love him, and that is more than any one person except his mother has ever done for him. He is different now, more like the Sesshomaru I knew when I was younger. I can tell he's happier, and the Western Lands flourish once more now that their Lord has returned.”
“I still don't know what I have done.”
He shook his head. “Simply by loving him, Kagome-sama, you have changed him. Do me a favor?”
“If I can.”
“Never stop loving him. I do not want to lose him again.”
“Again?”
He sighed softly and set his cup down. “This is not a story for me to tell, Kagome-sama, but I believe that you must hear it. When he comes for you here, ask him about his father. Ask him about Inuyasha's mother.”
Even as he said it, Kagome felt her powers stretch out across time to bring her the knowledge. She forcefully stopped it. This was something she wanted to hear from Sesshomaru. She wanted to understand his seeming disdain toward humans and deep down she knew this was the source of this anger.
“I will ask.”
“Thank you.”
He reached out and gave her shoulder a gentle squeeze before he left. Kagome set her cup down and went back to her room. Sesshomaru would come today and she wanted to make sure everything was packed and ready. She glanced up as she heard footsteps in the corridor, but they moved on. Would he be made that she was prying? Was it really prying if it made her understand him better? She shook her head. These questions were pointless. No matter the consequences she would ask. She had to know if it was humans that he hated, or just one in particular.
