~*Chapter 1*~

~*Something not to be seen.*~

 

Kagome sat on the rock quietly thinking about Inuyasha when she heard a noise. She looked up to see that Inuyasha was walking into the forest. She knew what he going to do; he was going to see Kikyo. So Kagome decided to follow him into the forest but did so quietly. Tagging along behind the dog-demon she was sure she wasn't within his range of scent or sight when he suddenly stopped. When she found a place to hide behind some thick bushes she sat down at started to watch the scene before her. Inuyasha stood in a forest clearing gazing off toward the east as a lonely figure of a woman slowly crept towards Inuyasha. Kagome shifted her position to see better and listened as Kikyo entered the clearing and started to talk.

“Inuyasha, I have to tell you something.” Kikyo began in a nervous tone “What is it that you have to tell me?” Inuyasha inquired with complete calmness.

Kagome watched them as they stood there silently staring at each other. The silence between the two conveyed more than words ever could. Kagome felt a pang of jealousy ripe through her, Kikyo understood Inuyasha better than she ever could. The hanyou never told her the secrets of his past nor did he rush to meet with her alone in the woods.

“Inuyasha, I love you!” Kikyo cried out desperately. Frantic hope was clearly etched in her words. “Kiky…” Inuyasha's words were cut off abruptly when Kikyo kissed him passionately.

Kagome watched helplessly by as their lips met and worked together in a passionate kiss. Betrayal and a mixture of loneliness washed through her as she hastily looked away. He loves her! He always did. I was fooling myself to think I could heal his heart. He doesn't need me. He has her! She quickly got up ran out of the forest. Kagome ran away without concern for stealth and therefore Inuyasha heard a noise and turned to see where it had come from only to find Kagome running out of the forest crying. Did she…see me? Did she see everything? Not wasting time on useless thought he tried running after her but Kikyo stopped him before he could go any farther into the forest.

“Leave her be. She is nothing but a useless human.” Kikyo retorted with vehemence.

Inuyasha stood there for a moment thinking of what Kikyo had said about Kagome being a useless human. When her words finally sunk in he became angry. He always thought Kikyo to be very nice but now he was seeing a different side of Kikyo. A side that he had never seen before. Her cruel side.

~*Meanwhile deeper into the forest.*~

Kagome ran without direction only purpose, to escape what she had seen. She ran until she found a cave to stay in. When she thought about what she had seen, about what had happened, she would start crying again so she willed herself to stop thinking. All she did was cry. Kagome's deep blue eyes flooded with tears over and over again. Lost in her grieving she didn't notice anything amiss until she heard a sound coming from outside of the cave. She went out to see what it was and to her surprise she found Kouga lying on the ground bleeding. Examining the situation better allowed her to see a demon lying not far from Kouga next to a tree, dead. Kagome quickly pulled Kouga inside the cave and began to tend to his wounds. Satisfied after she had surveyed the damage and bandaged his wounds properly that he would live, she then began her interrogation.

Kagome looked at the bandaged wolf and began to speak, “What happened to you?” “I was attacked by that demon out there when I wasn't looking.” Kouga replied with obvious pain in his voice. “Are you okay?” Kagome questioned uncertainly, fear making her voice weak. “Yes I am fine. Why are you here instead of with the others?” Kouga inquired, his voice harsh with disapproval at her actions. Kagome began to cry while saying, “I am in this cave because I ran away when I saw…” “You don't have to finish.”

Kouga replied placing a hand on her soft cheek to stop her from crying even more.

“ I saw Inuyasha kiss Kikyo too.” Kagome looked up in surprise and gazed into the chocolate brown eyes that belonged to Kouga, leader of the wolf clan. He opened his mouth to speak but stopped only to start again, “Kagome…” he said still keeping his stroking hand on her cheek. “Yes, Kouga?” Kagome said still crying a little.
