“Hey Kagome, where is the shrine for Bahamut?” Kairi asked as she watched the princess walk almost blindly into the mist. Kagome did not answer her. She could feel the buildup in the magick that surrounded the mist, and felt a call that no one besides her family, the rest of the summoners, and the viera could feel. It calls to me…but what does it want? She thought quickly, and her eyes widened in realization.
“The mist…it calls me….Bahamut is near.” Kagome said slowly, and the others watched in amazement as she touched what looked to be a huge tower of ice, and with a flash of deep purple, the tower of ice disappeared.
“Kagome…can you hear me child?” She shuddered as the smooth baritone voice resonated within her head. His voice reminded her of someone, but who? I’ll think of it later.
“Who are you?” she whispered in her mind, wondering who exactly was talking to her.
“I am Kouraiki, otherwise known as Bahamut by the summoners and common folk.
“Ah, I see. I was brought up on your legend Kouraiki.”
He laughed. It exaggerates some things, but the gist of it is quite right young princess.
Kouraiki’s voice was suddenly muted out, and Kagome looked around worriedly, wondering exactly what was going on.
“I can’t hear you Kouraiki-san….can you hear me?” she whispered almost longingly, and as she stepped into the shrine, she shuddered at the amount of power that was emanating from it.
I hear you Kagome…your voice is faint, but it is there. Find me. Cane the muted baritone voice, and she looked into the shrine worriedly.
Taking a step forward, she found that her strength was quickly failing her. Collapsing in shock, she was surprised to find that Riku had caught her. “A-arigato…Arigato Riku.” she said softly, and he nodded.
“Are you alright?” he tried to not to sound too worried, but she caught the worried tone in his voice and smiled inwardly.
Kagome shook her head. “No….the mist surrounding the cave…..it brings an ill foreboding.” She stared into the cave, wondering just who the spirit Kouraiki reminded her of. She smiled as she finally thought of it. “Kouraiki reminds me of Haku, that’s who I was trying to think of!” she exclaimed, giggling slightly as Sesshoumaru glanced at her with a perked brow.
“Hakudoushi? The spirit Kouraiki reminds you of him?” he asked a bit surprised, wondering exactly why she was reminded of Hakudoushi when she spoke of the spirit.
Kagome giggled. “Yep. He has the same personality as him as far as I can tell. Haku’s a good friend, and he’ll protect those in need, so it fits perfectly.”
He shook his head. “Whatever you say hime-chan.” he smirked as she sent him a dark scowl.
Kagome glared at him. “I told you not to call me that Sesshou!!!” she protested, and her scowl turned darker with his amused chuckle.
He grinned slightly at her. “Why Kagome? Its quite amusing to see you annoyed.”
Kagome pouted. “You’re so mean Sesshou!” she huffed, and turned towards the fidgeting Kairi.
“Foreboding?” Kairi asked, shivering as she looked deep into the dark cave.
“Yes….its strange because I sense the mist that is wrapped around the shrine….it speaks of pain and longing…but also of betrayal.” Kagome answered, not noticing that Riku was still holding her as the pyreflies surrounded her.
“Who’s Hakudoushi?” Sora asked, looking at her, a bit confused.
“Oh Haku? He’s one of my best friends. We’ve been friends ever since we were little…we grew up together. See, I didn’t meet Sesshou till I was ten, but I’ve known Haku all my life. We’re really close.”
“Then why isn’t he here?” Kairi asked, wondering if this Hakudoushi looked as good as Sesshoumaru. But she knew that she wouldn‘t be able to get Sesshoumaru, because as it seems, he was too interested with Kagome at the moment to care for anyone else..
Kagome laughed. “Haku’s a prince, so he has things he has to do in the northern kingdom. He can’t always walk away from things as easily as I can, especially if it has to do with politics or war…he seems to love them.”
“Oh. Okay then. I guess that’s alright.” she replied, looking around at the pyreflies.
“Kagome…you have come…but what is it that you truly seek young one? Do you seek power? Or do you seek a way for peace?”
“W-what was that?” Sora asked, whipping his head around as he searched for the speaker.
Kagome smiled eerily. “It was Kouraiki, the spirit of Bahamut.” she sighed softly. “I search for peace. I always have. I may like to fight, but if there is a peaceful way to resolve things, I will find it.” She replied, smiling as the cave lit up with a deep purple light.
“That is the answer I expect from someone such as you, young one.”
She smiled. “Well, that’s a good thing…I think I passed the first test.” she glanced up at the apprehensive Riku. “Hey, don’t worry! Bahamut is a protecting spirit. He may be the king of all dragons and a hell of a good fighter, but protecting his subjects is first, and always first.”
Riku relaxed a bit, and Sora did as well. Breathing a sigh of relief, he grinned at Kagome. “That’s a relief. I was starting to think that we would have to fight.”
Kagome laughed. “Nah, I would have to fight him, not you guys. Its just the way it is.” she trailed off, cocking a brow at the Hikari no Kage, who appeared in her hand. “W-what?”
“What’s the matter Kagome-chan?” Kairi asked, knowing that if the keyblades appeared on their own, they were either in trouble, or there was something that they had to do.
She shrugged. “I don’t know…Hikari really doesn’t appear like this…I think that there’s something that I have to do. I can feel the mist calling for something….but is that….me?”
“You will find the answer that you seek young one. It may be right in front of you, catching you unaware.”
She laughed. “I figured it was something like that…I’ll deal with it later.”
“Are you sure that may be a good idea?” Sora asked, watching as the slight swirl of pyreflies gathered and mixed in a burst of color. “It may not be so good to leave it unattended to.”
Kairi looked at Sora in shock. “Wow Sora, I never knew that you could speak so intellectually.”
Sora pouted. “That’s just mean Kairi. I have my moments.”
Riku smirked. “Yeah, and most of them are dumb ones.”
Kairi, Kagome, and Riku laughed. Sesshoumaru let a smirk cross his face and Sora’s pout turned full force on Kairi. She scowled. “Now that is just mean Sora, turning against me.” she glanced at Kagome and Riku. “Help me!”
Deciding to take pity on her, Riku grabbed a stone and threw it at his head lightly. “Quit picking on her Sora, its getting annoying.”
“OW!!! Why’d you do that for Riku?!” he asked, rubbing his forehead.
“Why do you think I did it for Sora?”
He frowned. “That was just mean…but I guess I deserved it.”
Donald laughed. “Maybe, but you were picking on Kairi Sora.”
Goofy smiled. “Even though its just for fun, you should stop when they say so, otherwise, you’ll get people like Riku to throw stones at your head.”
This caused Kagome to burst out laughing. “Yep! And if I got annoyed enough…or if Sesshou got annoyed, it would hurt worse because we wouldn’t care.”
Riku smirked. “That would be a bit bad, especially if you aim for our hands or the back of our heads.”
Kagome sighed sadly. “Man, why is it that someone always tells everyone the best spots to hit people when you’re annoyed?”
Sesshoumaru chuckled. “Jaken might’ve passed it along to others.”
Kagome nodded. “Possibly. Who knows with that weird annoying toad.”
“Your first encounter with evil is near young one. Are you ready?”
Kagome shivered. “I knew that Seymour would show his face sooner or later, but it doesn’t make me any more ready to face him than I am now. It will be hard, especially because I am unprepared Kouraiki.” she answered truthfully, and she smiled a bit as she felt Hikari no Kage pulse with Shiva’s calming power. “Arigato Shiva.” she said thankfully, and she smiled as she heard the aeon’s voice.
It is no trouble at all Kagome-sama. I, and the others as well will stand by you until the end.
Kagome sighed in relief. Its good to know that. I was afraid that some of you, specifically slyph, would flee from the battle. It is in Slyph’s nature, but I am glad that you will stay and fight with me.
“Kagome?” Riku’s voice brought her out of her thoughts.
“Yes Riku?”
“Shouldn’t we be going deeper into the shrine?”
She laughed. “What’s the matter? Legs asleep? I’m pretty comfortable where I am, but I have a feeling that you may be right. It is most likely that there are more tests.” She stood up when he released her, and extended a hand out to him to hoist him up as well. Taking it, he brushed off his pants, and grinned slightly at the smiling Kagome.
“Let’s go…we shouldn’t wait any longer.”
------
Sora looked at everything around him with awe. “Whoa….it looks like its covered in gems!”
“Its supposed to…why wouldn’t such a well known aeon not have a grand shrine?” Kagome replied, running her fingers over a gold statue of Bahamut. “Kirei….” she whispered to herself, and grinned as she saw the emeralds embedded within the jeweled necklace that Bahamut wore. It was right around the neck, so it was hard to tear off.
“What’s that Kagome?” Riku asked as he came up behind her, noticing that she was holding the miniature statue.
Jumping slightly, Kagome smiled sheepishly. “It’s a statue of Kouraiki-san in his dragon form.”
“Dragon form?” Donald asked, coming closer to inspect the miniature statue.
“Hai. Every aeon has two forms. They have their human form, or the form that they were before they were an aeon, and their aeon form, their new form that they acquired from becoming an aeon. The aeon form differs from aeon to aeon, but they all have at least two forms.”
“Does that mean that they can have three Kagome-chan?” Sora asked, tilting his head to the side.
“I…don’t know Sora…It is possible, I suppose.” she replied, continuing to stare at the statue. “There’s something missing….but what?” she whispered, searching the statue for imperfections.
“Isn’t the statue supposed to have onyx eyes?” Sesshoumaru asked, looking over her shoulder. “That’s what the statue of Bahamut was rumored to have.”
Kagome’s eyes widened immensely. “Sesshou! You’re a genius!!!” she sat the statue down quickly and jumped up, wrapping her arms around his neck in a large hug. It looked quite odd, because she was so small compared to him, but she didn’t care in the least.
“As much as I like having you on me, shouldn’t you look for the eyes of the statue?” Sesshoumaru grinned slightly down at the blushing summoner.
“No need. I found them already.” Riku replied, showing them the two small onyx gems. “They were in the wall in a chalice.”
Letting go of Sesshoumaru, she fell on her feet. Looking at Riku, she grinned. “Really? That’s odd….let me see…” She grabbed the two onyx gems and placed them in the sockets of the eyes, looking on as the statue resonated with power.
“W-WHAAAAAT?!” Donald spluttered, watching as the wall to the left of them collapsed. “W-what’s going on?!?!”
Kagome laughed. “Its just the key to the next test. We were supposed to find the onyx eyes, and we, well, Riku did. Now, c’mon, we got to go further inside.”
--------------------------
“Kagome 8230;what exactly are we looking for?” Sesshoumaru asked as they continued to walk along the jeweled corridors.
Kagome shrugged. “I’ll know it when I see it.”
He rolled his eyes. “You’re hopeless sometimes.”
She growled slightly, and stuck her tongue out at him. “No I’m not!”
Kairi giggled. “You two act like a married couple!”
Kagome blushed a deep red, but she didn’t deny anything. “We’re not married, so that’s that. We just like to argue.”
“If you say so….” Kairi trailed off, giggling as Kagome glared at her.
Freezing in her tracks, she grabbed onto Riku, who was the closest to her. “He’s here…he’s at the shrine.” She shuddered at the raw force of the dark magic that was gathered at the entrance of the outer shrine. Why? Why did he have to come NOW of all times?!
“Who’s here Kagome?” Riku asked, glancing down at her.
“Seymour.” she said icily, and swiftly walked down the corridors, pulling Riku along, and she stopped at the end of them. Touching a glyph, the wall rose, and a new passage was found. Quickly walking down it, she paid no heed to the others, and stopped quickly at the entrance of the inner shrine. “Stay here.”
----------------
Kneeling down, she began to pray, smiling slightly as the form of Kouraiki appeared. “Kouraiki-san. I need your help.”
“Aye child, Seymour has come to test your strength.”
She shuddered slightly. “Hai. I just had no idea that it would be this soon. Will you help me?” she queried, hoping that she wouldn’t have to fight to obtain his help.
Kouraiki smiled at her, and nodded. “Hai child. I am going to help you. You deserve to erase Seymour’s existence for good. It would benefit the worlds.”
“All the worlds?” Kagome asked, looking at him confusedly.
“Yes. If he becomes Sin like he has planned to do, he would be able to travel from world to world. He would bring chaos to the worlds.
The spirit dissipated in a shower of purple light, and Kagome resonated with the same light as she was granted Kouraiki’s aid.
“Thank you…I only ask why you granted me your aid so quickly?”
“I found a kindred spirit within you, and that is good enough for me.”
“I see. I am grateful for your help Kouraiki.”
“It is my pleasure child. Seymour is waiting for you. You must go!”
-----------
Continuing to hold onto Riku, she glared icily at the half guado. “Seymour.” she hissed icily, and the others looked between the two a bit confused.
“Now is that any way to welcome someone princess?”
“You are not welcome here.”
“Please, spare me the contempt. I came here to see you.”
“You’ve seen me. Now leave!” She hissed hatefully, glaring daggers at him.
“How you hate me young princess. Perhaps that hatred was passed down from your grandparents?”
Kagome’s eyes flashed a stormy blue grey in her anger. “I don’t care what you do, but you will not bring my family into this mess!”
“Ah, it seems that I’ve found a touchy spot.”
“Yes, and it will be your last you scum!”
“Hey Kagome, where is the shrine for Bahamut?” Kairi asked as she watched the princess walk almost blindly into the mist. Kagome did not answer her.
