A/N: Hi there! Thanks for the reviews! You guys rock! Hands out cookies The last few days have been quite busy. School activities and the likes. But now it's almost summer! I cannot wait. Literally. Two months of late nights, sleeping in, camping, computer, etc. Summer is awesome. Except for the sunburns. rubs back Owie.

Chapter Seven

Inuyasha was still sitting in the same tree, still pondering things.

`Kagome loves me?'

`Of course she does. Why else has she stuck around this long?'

`She just stays for the others. Shippou would be devastated if she left. Plus the monk was probably just lying to make me do something stupid. Not like she could ever really love a hanyou anyways.Why do Sango and him have to try to butt in?'

`Because they're concerned about your mental health? They know this whole Kagome vs. Kikyou thing's driving you insane and they're trying to somehow make you settle it now?'

He growled and shook his head. Everything had to be so damn confusing.

“Inuyasha?” Kagome's soft voice from the ground rose to him and his ears twitched.

`I was so deep in thought that I wasn't paying any attention to my surroundings.' He sighed. “Yeah?”

“What's wrong today?” The girl asked, a slightly annoyed tone in her voice.

Apparently she wasn't going to bother with pleasantries.

“What's that supposed to mean, wench!”

“Well, it seems something's always bothering you. So what is it now?” She paused, then quieter said “Is it what happened with Kouga?”

“Keh, like that mangy wolf could get under my skin this much.” Inuyasha hoped silently she wouldn't pick up on such a blatant lie, but she wasn't that stupid.

“So you admit that something is `under your skin'. And apparently it's a big deal too.”

“Huh? I never said that!”

“No, but you implied it.”

“Keh, whatever, I don't have time for this.”

“Yeah, you have a full schedule of brooding.” Kagome's voice was thick with sarcasm.

Inuyasha just `keh'd again, and looked up at the sky.

The schoolgirl sighed and stepped closer to the tree. “Just tell me what's going on? Please?”

Getting no reply, she tried again. “You say it wasn't Kouga. I doubt that.” Damn, she hadn't bought the lie. “Well, was it that Kouga almost took me away?” There was a pause. “I'll take that as a `yes'. Or at least a `sort of'.”

“Keh, you're reading into this too much!”

“Well, I'm curious.”

The hanyou muttered `curiosity killed the cat' under his breath before turning his gaze heavenward again.

“Was it what I said in front of Kouga?”

Inuyasha turned to look at the girl. She had a questioning expression on her face.

“I'm sorry if I offended you somehow. I just wanted him to leave me alone…”

He felt a twinge of pain in his heart, and jumped from the tree. “So you didn't mean what you said? It was just to make Kouga go away?”

“No, I meant it.” There was a pause. “I would never let him take me away from you. All of you!” She added hastily.

“Yeah, all of us…” Inuyasha again felt slightly hurt even though he really had no reason to. `Did you honestly think that she only stayed for you? The others are like family to her. I'm just… an annoying dog.'

“Mostly you.” It was so softly spoke that Inuyasha wasn't sure she had actually said it.

“What?”

“Well, if I could never see any of you again I would miss you all a lot! I mean, Shippou's like a little brother, maybe even a son, and Sango and Miroku are incredible friends to have, and Kirara is so dependable and brave, and I'd miss Kaede and even Myoga even though he's a complete coward…” Kagome finally took a breath. “But I honestly don't know what I'd do if I could never see you again.” She looked at the ground sheepishly. “Sorry.”

Inuyasha was somewhat astounded. “Kagome… I -”

“I shouldn't have said anything, just… just forget it.” She turned to walk away, but was stopped by a clawed hand on her arm.

“Wait. I… I don't know what I'd do if you left. I was really pissed off by what Kouga said because… I guess I just thought about what would happen if he managed to take you away. I just… can't have that happen.” He pulled her into a tight embrace, shocking Kagome but shocking himself more.

`What am I doing?'

“Inuyasha…”

A/N: AGH! I know it's really short and it sucks, but I have MONUMENTAL writer's block right now. Also, I really have no idea where this story's going xD Well, no, I know the storyline and stuff, and how I want it to end, but all the stuff inside I'm just making up as I go. So feel free to offer suggestions and constructive criticism. It'd be a huge help!(And sorry for not posting this last night but the login was being screwey. And also sorry for the totally cheesy stereotypical-ness! This has been done a frillion times before, but... well, I'm a cheesy stereotypical person. So shoot me.
