A/N: I don't own anything expect Ayaka

Ayaka

Ayaka read through the story scrolls she was given back when her father was alive. It was mainly romance and fantasy stories by one of her father's friend's that was an author. How she loved to read them over and over. Her mother however said to her she was getting too old to fill her head with stories.

She and her heavily pregnant mother were on their way to her stepfather's castle, the cold ruthless daimyo of Musashi, their cart pulled by the tired slave that has been pulling over a couple miles. Ayaka knew that sooner or later he will collaspe. Why was her mother so oblivous to her husband's cruel regin?

She was hanyou but nobody knew. You couldn't tell. She looks just like a normal human girl with long brown hair, hazel eyes,, and tanned skin. She was only nine years old but she is wise beyond her years. Her father was a youkai, a gifted artist and tailor. He died of an illness which left Ayaka devistated and her mother lonely. Three years later, she met the daimyo again. Again? Well her father did make his clothes before he died.

Ayaka sighed for the tenth time before she continued to read the story on her lap. Her mother took that moment to speak.

‘Why did you bring so many scrolls, Ayaka? Your 'father' has a library at his castle, there'll be plenty of stories and important documents for you to read’

She gazed at the scroll on her daughter's lap and sighed.

‘You are getting much too old to read them anymore, Ayaka. Why not leave it for your children to read one day?’

But what if my children are born with the demon characistics I didn't have? My husband would throw us out in the dirt!

....Is what Ayaka would really like to say but she won't. Her mother is a fragile woman. One wrong word against her and she'll fall into such a horrible depression. This happened when once when a uperclass woman said a nasty comment about her bedding with a youkai and again when he died.

Her mother suddenly gasped, bringing the cloth she held as a handkerchief as a wave of child sickness overwhelmed her.

‘Tell him to stop please...Ayaka’

She did as she was told. The slave gave a sigh of relief for a five minute break as Ayaka's mother leaned over the wheel, ready to heave up her stomach. While the guards went to check on her, Ayaka decided to stretch her legs a bit while she had time.

They stopped in the middle of a woodcutters path through a tall tree forest. On the way here, Ayaka spotted a few ruins through the foilage. From where they stopped, she could see one not far from the cart. Ayaka climbed up the small hill to the stature she could barely make out near the cart. It was somthing of a beast, a youkai? More likely. But it had an interesting face. Ayaka stared at when suddenly a large bug popped out of the stature's mouth.

The insect climbed onto the muzzle of the stature, staring at Ayaka for a moment before it shuddered and Ayaka saw it's body slowly morph into a more animal like body. It's size however didn't change: it was just as long from Ayaka's hand to her wrist.

What Ayaka was looking at now was a small youkai. What kind she didn't know. The little youkai stared at her for a few moments before flying away. Ayaka watched it go before she heard her mother calling her to come back. They headed back on the road again towards the place Ayaka had to call home and her mother urging her to call the daimyo father, saying "it's just a word". But to Ayaka it was more than that. She will never call the daimyo 'father'.

The Daimyo of Musashi looked towards the setting sun. It was close to evening yet his wife should have arrived a couple of hours later. He was thinking of sending a search party before a guard walked up to him.

‘My lord, they are here’

‘They're late’

The cart stopped in front of the castle gates where his wife and his stepdaughter got out of the cart with the help of the guards. He walked up to his wife. She gave him a smile before he placed a hand on her growing belly.

‘Welcome’ He says calmly to her.

She smiled before turning to Ayaka.

‘Ayaka, come say hello to the lord’

With her right hand holding her books, she gave him an awakard bow. He just bowed his head.

‘Ayaka’

And that was all he said before he turned to his wife and helped her stand up straight. Ayaka sighed. She knew he was never really interested in her. He didn't know that she was a hanyou either. Ayaka guessed her mother was worried her husband would throw her in the mud, just as she thought her future husband would do if he found out. Of course Ayaka thanked the Kama's that she didn't have an intended.

This was going to be a long day.
