Chapter 2
The Promise

Melinga ran and ran further. She stopped every once in a while to catch her breath and feed Leaha and herself and take in some water and use the bathroom. She ran until she came to a small village a three month travel from the cottage. It was near mid night and every one was in there huts sleeping there was a few guard dogs but none barked at the passing by female hanyou dog demon. In her arms Leaha slept soundly and would every once in a while squeak a little but nothing more. She came to the out skirts of the village. Passing by several fields and orchards she smelled the aroma of the ripening fruit and the vegetables. She heard cows lowing in the there pastures. As she looked closer to the fields, animals and trees she noticed that they were showing signs of neglect “Maybe” she thought. “That no one lives her. No that cannot be since there are animals and plants still thriving I shall go further and see what I make of it.”. She figured that she was coming closer to a farm since the given scenery but as she walked close she seen the outline of a ivy covered temple. She hesitated to go any further but her stomach wanted her to go. “Surely” she thought. “There has to be some one here. Who else would tend to these fields, fruit trees, and animals?” “Well at least keep them alive.” As she walked closer to the temple she seen a light in one of the temple windows and seen a shadow of a person sitting behind a desk and laboring it seemed over something. She stared into the window watching the shadow for a little bit when Leaha began to whimper and arouse from her sleep in hunger. The shadow of the person began to move at the whimper toward the window. Scared Melinga fled to the corner of the house out of view of the window but yet she could still see the window. A very old woman come to the window and open the curtains and look out seeming satisfied with the results of her search went back to her desk and continued her work. Melinga sighed a little in relief and put Leaha to her bare breast and Leaha became to feed. Melinga walked around the house and nursing her child when she came upon a lean to type building. Being dark but with her hanyou eyes she could see inside there was a line with sheets and some priestess robes and other materials hanging there to dry. Melinga was happy since she didn’t like the fact of walking around naked. She walked slowly to the sheets and felt of them. “This sure isn’t silk.” she said rather disappointed. “Oh well you have to do with what you got I suppose.” She sat in a corner of the small lean to till Leaha was finished with her midnight feeding then continued to burp her and the small child after emitting a small squeaky burp stuck her finger in her mouth and fell back to sleep. Melinga laid Leaha on the ground in a wash pail that had been dried out and made her a little make shift bed. She walked over to the sheets and the robes and took them down and started to make her self and Leaha some clothes and diapers. She took the only two sheets that they were and cut at them with her razor sharp claw and tried her best to make the cut out like a dress. After a hour of make shift sewing, weaving, and cutting she had Leaha and her two outfits, several diapers and two baby blankets made out of her old dress that Leaha was wrapped in. She put the diapers and the extra outfits and wrapped them up in the extra blanket after she dressed herself and Leaha in the others and cover Leaha up in the tub with the other blanket. She put the bundle under her head and fell asleep, tired from all the running and the clothes making her brain, and body were to tired to tell her that this wouldn’t be the safest place of her to be at considering that they were, at least one she knew of, humans around, She fell of into a deep troubled sleep only to be awoken in a few hours to the sound of a elderly woman talking to her.

Konre settled into his throne and looked about the long and narrow room. The room showed signs of neglect and decay. It was once beautiful and majestic with crowds of people, wine, food, gay music, and dance. That was before Konre, a demon lord with a loving heart and nature, found out about the sacred jewel that Kikyou protected. He came to know of the jewel through a meeting between Kikyou and himself. She had came to his castle looking for shelter during a down pour one night while she was out on a journey from her home to look for healing herbs for a sick woman in her village. When Konre seen the jewel his demon lush over came his caring nature and he went for the jewel when she laid sleeping in a room or so he thought. When he went for the jewel Kikyou stood up and hit him with her bow glowing with her spirt energy knocking him back against the wall. As he went to get up Kikyou blasted him with a charged arrow and left thinking that he was dead. He would have been to if it wasn’t for Melinga. She had heard the blast hitting the wall and busting through it creating quite a rumble. As she ran toward the noise she seen Kikyou walking toward the door “Priestess” Melinga called to Kikyou. Kikyou turned and looked at Melinga. “What is it Lady Melinga.” “ What have you done to my husband” “ Ah nay Lady Melinga it is what he has done to himself” “What do you speak of priestess.” “I have do what was necessary of my job.” With that said Kikyou walked out of there castle and never turned back upon her path. Melinga ran into the sleeping quarters to see a most disturbing site there laid her husband Konre’s burnt and nearly dead body. Melinga fell to the floor onto her knees scared, worried, horrified, and panic all feeling ran through her body. She didn’t know what to do. Then a raspy voice came from the lungs of the horrible injured man “Melly I...love...you” Konre coughed and pinkish gold blood flowed from his mouth now. Melinga scared didn’t know what to do she scanned her brain for some knowledge some thing anything that would bring her dear husband back to her. “ Konre I love you to. Please don’t die please don’t die” she said with tears streaming down her face. “ I need you Konre.....please don’t die DAMN IT DON’T DIE.” Konre struggled to place his burnt half bone hand upon his wives “ Melly I deserve to die I tried to commit evil tonight and I do not deserve to be here any longer. Please Melly let me die let me go. I am evil I tried to kill that priestess tonight for power. Melly you know me.” He tried to manage a smile though the affect would have been pointless in his current state. “Melly it will be ok beside you know me im an arrogant bastard.” with that said Konre breathed his last breath and his eyes went blank. “No KONRE DON’T DO THIS TO ME DON’T LEAVE ME.” Melinga then laid her head on his chest and wept “konre...”

She had the servants place his body in a chamber. Her expression cold and that of nothing but pure hate for her husbands murder. She thought to her self “Priestess you shall pay for taking my husband away from me. How dare you...how dare you.” Before they put the lid on the sealed chamber she kissed her late husband on the lips and lend her head down to his ear as to whisper to him. “Konre you will be with me again. I will find a way. I will bring you back. I promise my love you will lay beside me once more and hold me once more. I will find a way my love. I will find a way.
