The sun was just rising, but Inuyasha had been up for hours, just sitting on top of Kaede's hut. It had been a week since Enera had approved of his and Kagome's mating, and Kagome was starting to feel those "urges". The urges to feed. To drink blood. To drink souls. To kill. Inuyasha had decided that it was time to take Kagome away from everyone. To keep them, and her, safe.
They would be leaving today, but not until the afternoon. Inuyasha hadnt had much sleep, his worry for his mate consuming him. He knew this was natural, well, kinda, but he still worried. If she couldnt fight the urges....No. He couldnt think of that. Kagome would get through this. And so would he.
"Inuyasha?"
He looked down to see Kagome. She was dressed and had her big yellow bag on her shoulder.
"I thought we werent leaving till the afternoon?" Inuyasha asked.
"Yea..but..maybe now is better. The more I think about leaving, the more I dont want to." Kagome looked around the village. She had grown so comfortable here. Sure, traveling around, she did miss this place, but now, she didnt know how long they would be gone (not that she really ever did), or what to expect from her body. This was all so overwhelming, and scary.
Just as the thought crossed her mind, one of the village boys walked by them. He was with his father, carrying two buckets of water. He had to have been about Kagome's age, and even though Kagome didnt sense any sins on him, he looked...delicious.
Inuyasha saw that look in Kagome's eye when the boy walked by and jumped down to her from the hut. "Okay, lets leave." Suddenly, he couldt wait to get away from everyone. Kagome looked at him, a slight sadness in her eyes. "I left a note for everyone. So they wont worry."
Inuyasha nodded and turned around, motioning for Kagome to jump on his back. "Um..Inuyasha..I-" "Just let me carry you, okay?" Kagome just sighed, not wanting to argu this early in the morning, and climbed on his back.
They left without another word.
+Late afternoon+
"Inuyasha, can we stop for a bite?" Kagome asked. It was the first words either had spoken since they left.
"Okay." After finding a nice shaddy spot in the forest, Inuyasha let Kagome down and she began to make some ramen.
After the ramen was cooked and served, they ate in silence, that is, until Kagome couldnt take it anymore.
"Inuyasha....Im sorry for all this.." Kagome said, staring into her bowl of untouched ramen. Inuyasha just looked at her confusingly. "For what?"
"All this. Enera. My followers. Having to take me away. Hell, Im still sorry for breaking the danmed jewel."
Inuyasha said nothing, and Kagome was starting to regret saying anything in the first place. Then she felt a hand take her ramen away, and two strong hands cup her face.
He pulled her face close to his and gave her a nice, gentle kiss, before looking into her eyes.
"Kagome, if I didnt want to be here, would I?" Kagome shrugged, so he continued. "Im not good with words, so if this all sounds stupid, well..yea.." He dropped his hands to hold hers but kept their eyes locked. "I dont care if I have to defeat 20 Narakus, NOTHING is taking you away from me. Nothing. No one. Even if Enera didnt approve of me that wouldnt have stopped me. You helped me when I became full demon, when I got myself hurt, and anytime I did something stupid, which was a lot." Kagome finally smilied, which made Inuyasha feel a little better. "Your my mate, mate for life. What do you think I ment when I said I love you? That I wouldnt be there? That I would leave you? I dont know what I-love-you means in your time, but here, it means your stuck with me forever."
Kagome had a few tears in her eyes, and she flew her arms around Inuyasha and hugged him tightly. Inuyasha hugged her back just as tight.
After a moment, though, something changed in Kagome. Her grip on him became tighter, so much, it was hurting him.
"Kagome...Kagome?" Her scent changed. He struggled against her, but she didnt move. She said nothing, and the more he tried to fight her grasp, the tighter it became.
"Kagome! what are you-?" He was finally able to release her grasp, and he pinned her down to the forest floor. She immediatly began to struggle, trying to get back in control of him.
"Kagome! What the hell is wrong?!" She didnt respond, just continued to struggle against his strenght. Even though she was part demon now, and more powerful than most, Inuyasha still had normal body strength and weight against her.
He swung one leg on the other side of her, and sat down on her stomach, trying to get her to hold her down. She was banging her head against the floor in her struggles, and Inuyasha knew if she didnt stop, she would seriously hurt herself. Her eyes, which were tightly shut, suddenly swung open. They were pitch black.
Inuyasha could smell a hint of blood, and he knew it was coming from where she was hitting her head. He managed to pin both her arms above her head and put one hand underneath her head where she was hitting it. She continued to bang her head, but now she was only hurting his hand.
Inuyasha didnt know what to do. He could feel her pain through their bond. Her demon was going through some form of withdrawl, and her human heart was crying out.
He bent his head to kiss his mark on her neck, trying to calm her down. "Kagome...relax..please, everything is going to be fine...just relax.." He coached. But nothing worked. When he thought she was starting to calm down, her body would shudder and she would fight him again. But he didnt move his spot. One hand under her head, one holding her wrists. He would kiss her neck and the mark on it in an attempt to let her demon know he was her mate.
After about a hour, Kagome's body went limp. Inuyasha looked down at her, and he senced nothing through their bond. She just passed out. He picked her up, and held her bridal style. He flung her bag over his shoulder, and continued on their journey, he hoped, without anymore problems.
+Late that night+
They finally arrived at their destination. Inuyasha walked into the hut and laid Kagome down on the small bed in the corner. The hut was cold and slightly damp. No one had been here in years. Inuyasha built a fire in the fire pit, and put enough wood in it so it would burn for most of the night. He crawled into the bed next to Kagome, pulled her to him and held her tight. Her breathing was normal, and she her scent was fine.
After a while of just laying there, sleep finally caught up with Inuyasha, and he fell into a reluctant sleep. While it wasnt the best nights sleep hes had, at least it was something.
