A/N And to begin my story the pointless Author’s note. I don’t own Cowboy Bebop. On a side note Electra is pretty much going to be OOC but whatever.
Three suns baked the barren landscape below a hot wind blew through the blue sky, a desert, unyielding, uncaring, and deadly to all but the hardiest of flora and fauna stretched out as far as the eye could see. Upon this desolate place people had come to scratch out a life in the burning white sands. Water, food, and shelter were scarce which cause power struggles and outlaws, of course with the birth of outlaws came the birth of bounty hunters, one such pair was an odd pair of women traversing the sands by a large black creature that came to be known as thomases. The taller of the two had on black boots, black pants held up by a black belt. Her upper torso was covered by a black shirt. A light weight jacket was in her lap. She had dark toned skin with blue eyes. Shoulder length red hair framed her face. Her companion wore a dark blue top with matching pants. Her long raven hair hung down freely along her back as a few stray tresses of hair spilled down to just above her eyes chocolate eyes, her olive skin free of visible scares or blemishes. The raven haired woman placed her hand on her brow to shield her eyes. In the distance a man wearing a dark blue suit could be seen. On his back was a large cloth wrapped cross. The girl put her hand down and looked to her companion. “Am I starting to see things Electra?” she asked in a concerned voice, wondering if the heat and dehydration had finally taken their toll on her sight and mind.
The other woman scanned the desert for what her companion had seen. Soon she laid eyes on what she could scarcely believe herself. A man in a suit walking in the desert. She looked at her companion. “I’ll be damned Kate, you’re right. Now for the big question: What in the hell is he doing out in the desert walking?” she asked, not expecting an answer.
Kate shrugs softly. She wiped her sweat drenched brow as the creatures quickly approached the man. A few quizzical glances between the two answered most questions although two very important ones lay open. Finally Electra decided both. She snapped the reigns and the creature trotted faster and little time had passed before she caught up with the man in question. “What are you doing in the middle of the desert?” she asked bluntly.
The man looked up, in his mouth was a cigarette. “Evening ladies. I’m just walking to December to meet up with friends when my motorcycle broke down.” he answered in a light voice. “Well I guess that God has plans for us if he would have us meet like this.”
Kate studied the man carefully. The man flashes a reassuring smile to the women as they wait silently for something to happen. After a few seconds of silence Electra spoke up. “You said you were headed to December right? Well we’re on our way there ourselves, but this would be our first time there and we need a guide to it. We would need a guide just to the outskirts of town.” She said matter-of-factly.
The man nodded. “Okay, by the way my name is Nicolas D Wolfwood.” He said politely.
Kate nodded in response. “My name is Kate and this is my partner Electra. It’ll be dark soon and I don’t want to spend a night in the desert with all those bandits.”
Nicolas nods as he looks between the two. “Alright ladies if we hurry then we can make it if we hurry but who am I going to ride with?”
The girls shrugged before Kate slide back on her Thomas. “You can ride with me but I warn you, try anything and you’ll be walking to December with a broken hand.” she warned.
Nicolas threw his hands up defensively. “I assure you miss I won’t try anything, I’m a priest after all.”
Kate grumbled as she motioned for him to climb on the Thomas which he did with great caution. When he was finally settled he took the reigns and gave them a light slap and the creature was off and running. Electra repeated the motion and both creatures were off and running. It wasn’t long before they reached December. The town was completely dark save for a few windows in a large building. Nicolas rode the Thomas up to the large building. “This is the hotel.” He said with a soft chuckle. “It was a pleasure meeting you girls, but I hope our paths don’t cross again.”
Electra groaned as she hopped off the Thomas. “Yes I pray it won’t, we don’t plan on staying too long in here anyway.” she said tiredly as she tied up her Thomas.
Kate dismounted swiftly before going over and undoing the pack attached to Electra’s ride. Nicolas shrugged softly as he dismounted from his ride and walking into the night. Kate felt an odd feeling of being watched. She turned around to see a black shadow disappear into the darkness of an ally. “Shit, we’re being watched.” she said silently to her partner.
Electra looked at her friend then the ally, but all signs of life were gone from the darkness. “It’s late and you’re jumpy. We need to get some sleep if we want a chance at claming what we want.”
Kate nodded as she picked up her things and tossed them over her shoulder. “Yes but what if the hunter is the hunted. There are others besides him and he has a reputation of being a womanizer to say the least.”
The taller woman looked at her friend. “If someone like the humanoid typhoon was around here do you think the whole city would not be on alert? Besides with a profile like his, he couldn’t help but to attract attention.” she said to reassure her friend. In truth the possibility of the murderous Stampede being in this town while they slept did worry her a bit, but he was human and every human had a weakness.
They went into the hotel and sat their stuff down. A young woman smiled warmly at them. “How may I help you ladies this eve?”
“We need a room for the night, a room with two beds.” the taller woman answered as she dug around her pockets.
The woman nodded. “That’ll be thirty double dollars please.”
Electra put the last bit of money they had on the counter. The woman rang a bell and a tall man picked up their bags as the girl handed Electra the key to the room. “There you are, he’ll show you to your room. Have a good night’s sleep.”
The man lead them up to the room at the end of a hall. Electra unlocked the room and walked in. It was a humble room with standard furnishings. The man sat the bags on the bed and quickly made his way out of the room. Kate walked over to her things and started unpacking. “What’s our first objective?”
Electra turned around and placed her hand on her hip. “We need to find another bounty, I didn’t expect to spend all that cash on the stupid thomases.” She groaned and went over to her stuff and started sorting though it.
The first things that came out of their packs was their handguns. Next was a pair of radios. “So our first objective is to locate the sheriff’s office and see what kind of bounty we can secure?” Kate asked as she placed her clothing in the closet.
“That’s the basic idea. Of course we should also be looking out for information about our ultimate goal.” Electra answered as she slid her things under the bed save for her sleepwear.
Kate nodded slowly as she dressed for bed in a long shirt. “Let’s hope we can find him. I want to get my ass off this dust bowl of a planet. I thought I’d never want to see Mars so badly.”
Electra grinned softly. “I know what you mean.” Electra added as she slid on her own long shirt.
Both women flipped down the covers and slid into bed. Kate turned off the lamp next to the bed on the wooden stand. Electra slid easily into sleep while Kate turned slowly in her bed. As usual sleep was a hard find for Kate, her mind wouldn’t let her sleep as this was the time when she was bombarded with flickering memories lost to the sands of time. When the moon spilled onto her bed from the window just above her bed the she fell into slumber, yet even when sleep finally came over her peace as far from her grasp. The next thing she knew she was in a darkened place, in front of her was a young man with gold eyes and long silver hair. He had no visible ears and long claws. His feet were bare, his aura one of complete despair. Kate had a feeling she knew him but couldn’t place a name to the to the face. She felt the overwhelming need to hug him and when she reached over to hug him he disappeared and she fell through a hole where he once sat. She fell for what felt like whatever but the bottom of the hole was approaching quickly. But before she hit the bottom she shot up with a cold sweat, in her bed. She got up and padded over to the window. The moon had risen to it’s highest point in the night sky and the sky was awash in stars. Kate placed her hand against the glass and a chill went through her hand. To her back a groaning could be heard. “Something tells me that you had one of your dreams again. Which was it this time, the one with the old man, older woman, and boy or perhaps the dream with the fox boy?” Electra asked in a somewhat groggy voice.
Kate looked down, her dreams had a tendency to stir up strong emotions and this one would not break the mold as a few tears ran from her eyes. “The one about the platinum haired boy again.”
Electra looked at her partner. “Those dreams are probably movies you saw when you were younger. There are a ton of movies that have characters like that, your platinum hair boy sounds like a vampire or something.”
Kate sighed softly. “Yeah, good point, still it seems so real.” she said as she trailed her fingers along the glass.
“Kate I understand your confusion, really I do, but every dream you have isn’t something that happened in your life, no matter how strong those feelings are. Now go to bed, we have a long day ahead of us.” Electra replied before crawling into bed.
Kate crawled into bed for a sleepless night.
