The Broken Betrayal

Sango sat-up slowly trying to figure out what had just happened. She remembered walking with Kagome through a dark forest then…she struggled to remember the rest. Then everything came barreling backing to place the trees, the running, and the inevitable death. She still had her eyes closed trying to hold back the painful headache that was threatening to hit.

“If this is what it feel like to be dead...” She started to mumble, as she rubbed her banged up legs… “Then I think I shouldn't have stolen that cookie from my brother. Or else heavens really over rated.” She slowly opened her eyes only to see darkness. “If I am dead...? Where's the bright light at the end of the tunnel? I should still get that even if I am in hell”

“Well I guess that blows the whole dead theory. I that's a good thing, but how the hell did I get out of that one? Too tired I'll figure it out later.” She relaxed slightly and started lie back down. She bumped into something warm and fuzzy.

`What was…?' She stiffened… `It's moving. What the heck am I leaning against? She was too afraid to move. What ever was behind her was big and alive.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ///////////////////

“OH My God…“ She gawked at the sight in front of her, mouth opening then shutting trying to put into words what she was seeing.

“He's Phenomenal.” She let the words slip from her mouth in complete awe. `I've never seen any human or demon for that matter that looked like him.'

He was a young boy her age or maybe a year older. He had long slivery blue hair but there were streaks of black also mixed in. His skin was light tan and he had beautiful golden eyes. What truly made him standout were the large white wings stretched out behind him that seemed to glow in the gloom of the cave. But despite his beauty there was something amiss. She stood trying to figure it out. Till it hit.

“H-he looks so sad. I wonder why?” She stood there a moment gazing at the person. `I guess I'd be sad to, if I were the one frozen in a dark cave.' She looked closer at his face, but her gaze slowly drifted to his eyes. There was so much written just within his eyes. She stood there slowly deciphering each of the emotions that seemed to crowd those beautiful golden eyes.

“He isn't sad… He's devastated.” She'd seen that look a couple of times in her life. The one that she remembered the best, being when her father died. The look she'd seen on her mother's face during the days leading up to the funeral, were forever burned into her memory.

“What happened to you?” She reached out a hand to touch his face, completely forgetting that she thought he was dead just a moment ago.

ZAP!

“Ouch!” She snatched her had back to her chest. `Was…Was that a barrier?' She'd seen those blessed children practicing using them, but never gotten close enough to be repelled by one.

`You were sealed inside a barrier, but I've never heard of such a thing.'… “I thought barriers kept things from getting in. Not out.”

She simply watched him for a minute.

`So you're trapped inside a barrier…? You must have been terribly evil, or else someone really and I mean really didn't like you.' She studied him for a moment. “I think your good. I can see it in your eyes. I wish there were some way I could help.” Kagome thought as she slowly spaced out.

`Do you really?'

“Yea. He seems harmless enough.”

`Could he rely on you and trust you?'

“Only if I'd eventually be able to do the same.”

`Would you be his friend?'

“Yea… nobody deserves to be alone and he looks really lonely.”

`Then I'll grant your wish.'

Kagome's head jerked upright.

“I got to stop talking to myself. It's starting to get weird.”

Kagome looked away from the winged boy and down at the jewelry box.

(Flash Back)

“They're getting closer one of you must take it. I believe it holds information to Inuyasha's last resting place and the way to free him.”

(End Flash)

Kagome's eyes went wide as realization hit her full force.

“Holy Hell…” She whispered, as she looked back up from the box…”You're Inuyasha. B-but how…? You died like seven generations ago. (That's 700 years if you don't know) You're supposed to be dead. I mean nobody but demons live that long. This is amazing… Hey he can help me find Sango and get us back home.”

Her hopes took a turn down hill after a moment of extra thought. `You're trapped inside a barrier and I have no powers… But! Sango is a blessed child maybe she could… “Sigh.” Sango isn't here.'

She looked back down in disappointment letting her eyes fall on the jewelry box.

“I wonder what's so great about a box that can't open?” She stated grumpily as she fiddled with the box. She sat back down and placed the small box in her lap while still studding the designs.

“WOW…I didn't see that earlier.” She'd just turned the box upside down and noticed that a hand was carved into the bottom of the box. She let her fingers run over the hand print and stopped when she noticed the feather in the center of the palm.

“These details are amazing it must have taken forever.” She placed her had on top of the carved hand. “Ha! It fits. She went to remove her hand, but the box came with her. “What the…? She shook her hand thinking it must have had something sticky on it.

“Let…Go!” She tugged on the box with her other hand.

`Nothing.' She sighed `I just can't get a break.'… “Stupid box should open up or let go of me.”

A bright light engulfed her hand. Kagome looked at her hand in disbelief. “No way.”

She went to pull her hand back using her feet to hold the box down as she pulled up. The light continued to get brighter.

“Shit! I broke it!”

She hissed in pain. It felt like someone was shoving a thousand little needles into the palm of her hand. She started grinding her teeth to stop from screaming. She continued to try and pull the box from her hand hoping to end the pain. The light abruptly stopped and the box shot from her hand a moment later and hit the barrier. She clutched her hand to her chest still looking at the box in disbelief. Finally she looked away from the box to the palm of her hand.

`How did that get on my hand?'

`The feather on the box matches the one on my hand.' She studied the feather closely and noticed that it was half-white and half-black. She gently poked the feather now marking her hand.

`It doesn't hurt any more.' She looked closer at the marking then in a rush she licked her thumb and tried to wipe the feather from her hand. “Damn it's not coming off. What's with this mark?”

Her eyes trailed from her hand to where the box had landed. She walked over to the box and lifted from the ground. What the hell's with the hand mark? She looked over the box and noticed that the hand print and feather were missing.

“This is so messed up.”

She noticed that the box had landed right in front of Inuyasha.

She looked him up and down. “You don't look so tuff, I bet Sango could take you no problem.” She said while sticking out her tongue. … “Damn it stop looking at me like that.” She shifted her gaze to the side but her eyes were drawn back to his face.

“I really wish I could help.” she whispered. Her newly tattooed hand reached forward as she let her thoughts take over. Her hand was acting on her emotions moving forward to lend comfort. Slowly her hand came in contact with the barrier. She came back from her thoughts too see that her hand was now laying on the barrier, and she could see the barrier clearly now. It was a swirl of bright pink and blue blocking off the whole entrance.

She looked at her hand then back at Inuyasha. She gave the barrier a little shove.

`I-It's not rejecting me? Maybe…' She started to apply more pressure to the barrier.

She noticed the barrier was giving with each additional amount of pressure. She gave a forceful push and the barrier erupted in a show of light. Kagome's blocked the light with her arm.

“YOU BETRAYED ME!”

“What?”…” Oufh.” Something barreled into her sending her sliding backwards across the ground.

She'd barely made into a sitting position before she heard the voice again.

“Why… Tell Me WHY!” the voice yelled

She finally got a look at the person that had knocked her down. “You.”

“WHY DAMN IT!” She suddenly found herself up in the air with a hand wrapped securely around her throat.

“S-TT--Ooo-p you're hur--ttt--ing me.” She choked out while clawing and kicking at him to get free.

He dropped her to the ground only to fall on his hands and knees in front of her.

“Why…?” It was only a whisper, but it managed to reach Kagome's ears.

She studied him closely trying to figure out if he was going to attack her again, but couldn't see much due to the curtain of hair that hid his face from view. She watched as his fingers dug into the ground. He repeated something over and over again but just out of her earshot this time.

She shifted herself closer to him, but stopped her advance when she noticed the way his body was trembling.

`W-w- was he crying?' She could make out shimmers of light reflecting off the tears as the fell to the ground. She moved directly in front of him trying desperately not to startle him back into attacking her.

“Why? Why? Why..? Why?” He asked aloud.

Kagome laid a hand on his shoulder in an attempt to comfort him.

“Why…I don't understand.” he whispered while looking up into her eyes.

Kagome eyes were trying to apologize for something she had no understanding of, for something she wanted to help with. She wanted to give him an answer but she didn't have any.

Her breath caught as Inuyasha pulled her into a tight hug, and buried his face into the crook of her neck.

Kagome was caught by surprise, but gently wrapped her arms around him trying to calm him down.

“It's not fair. Not fair. It's not fair…” he was openly crying.

`What can I say...? It's going be all right, just doesn't seem good enough. What can I say…?” Kagome was speechless.

“Since I was born I have only made mistakes, I'm an abomination and… I should die like one.” He stated calmly and clearly.

“That's no-…” She was cut off by the sudden change in his body. He'd suddenly became very stiff and straight. His grip on her tightened, pulling her forcefully against his chest.

She tilted her head back to look at his face trying to figure out what was happening, only to see his face was also directed skyward. A steady stream of black and white light twisted out of his mouth only to pool together in the sky.

Inuyasha fell forward onto her, his weight had efficiently pined her to the ground. She couldn't even get her hands free.

“Damn.” She looked back up at the anomaly in the sky. The two energies had pooled together to form one massive orb. She watched as the two energies refused to mix within the orb. The large orb abruptly broke into about twenty or thirty smaller orbs, then shot off in every direction.

“That was kind of cool.” She lay there, watching the spot where the orbs had split wondering what exactly she'd just witnessed.

“Eep!” She'd forgotten that Inuyasha was lying on top of her until she felt his warm breath against her skin. It sent shivers throughout her body. She tried wiggling free but to no avail. `He's not crushing me, but this is still a very awkward position.'

“Nothing ever goes my way.” She grumbled out as she turned her head back to face Inuyasha.

`He looks so peaceful. Who could do something so horrible to someone so… unbelievably beautiful.' She bushed.

`That was so corny Kagome.' She silently scolded herself as she flew off into La La Land. She came back to reality still facing Inuyasha.

`There's no point in trying to force him off. Plus he looks like he's actually happy.' She relaxed and closed her eyes.

“I'll just take a little nap.” she whispered as she dozed off.

///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ///////////////////
Sango was terrified but forced herself to turn around. She spun around quickly trying to get it over with in one movement.

Her eyes were already wide from the lack of light, but what she saw before her made them even wider. She couldn't scream. What she saw was stunning, terrifying and unbelievable at the same time.

In front of her, illuminated in firelight, lay a giant sized… Tiger? Lion?… Well what ever it was it was big and terrifying. Well it wasn't so much the animal's size or it's fierce look, but the flames that licked at its paws and tail. She watched as the large cat turned its eyes on her.

Dark brown eyes met fierce red ones. She couldn't look away, those eyes were angry, controlling, and powerful.

The cat stood up and stepped toward her. Sango was stronger and braver than most people, but today just wasn't her day, she completely blacked out.
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// ///////////////////

“Damn it! I know the smells lead into this forest.” He looked around once again. “I can't make-out a damn thing. But, I can still smell them. One of them smells like that thief. Which means I've been following the one with the box.

`I thought I was getting closer when I saw those flashes of strange lights earlier. Then later on when small orbs of strange light went flying through the sky. But that was over 5 hours ago.'… “Bonkotsu's not going to be pleased if I return without anything to show after…?” He took a moment to think. `It must have been three to five days.'… “I'm going to make that bitch pay for making me chase after her like this.”

He bumped into something as he was thinking of all the pleasant ways he could torture his prey. “What the hell?“ he reached out and touched the strange object. It was rough, big, and curved… it clicked a moment later. “It's a tree.” He started following the sent once again and noticed that he would constantly brush up against a tree. “I wonder what the hell happened. This many trees can't fall on their own, and they're following the same path as that bitch with the box. I wonder if she's dead? Doesn't matter because either way she's going to die.
