Morning Memories
Kagome groaned. It had been over an hour since Inuyasha fallen asleep in her lap.
`When are you going to wake up?' She sighed while looking off into the forest. `I don't understand why the forest suddenly became so…normal. Was the darkness only purpose to protect Inuyasha?'
She looked down at Inuyasha. `As soon as you wake up were going to search for Sango.' And with that thought she drifted off into her own girlish fantasies.
(Ten minutes later)
`I shouldn't be staring at him, it's rude.' She scolded herself mentally while taking a quick peek back at his sleeping form. “He looks so cute though.” She blushed. `I can't believe I said that out loud.' She turned her head to the side, effectively removing all thoughts of Inuyasha.
Looking around she spotted a familiar little box. Leaning to the side she pulling the box beside her. “I can't believe all this happened over this troublesome box.”
"Well this is new." She traced a line along the perimeter of the box. "It almost looks like a lid." She removed the hand that had been stroking Inuyasha's hair, and gently tried to pull the top off the box. Just as she was about to give the lid a hard tug a thought hit her.
"Yep. I am crazy no doubt anymore."...
'First, I promise to stay with a guy who tried to kill me; Second, I'm talking to myself... again; and Finally, I'm playing with the box, that got me into this whole mess and here I go trying to open it.' She let go of the box and went back to playing with Inuyasha's hair.
Only to be constantly pestered by her damn curiosity. 'What the hell's in that box?'
(5 minutes later)...Despite her best efforts....
"Damn it!" She grabbed the box and yanked the top off...
(Gasp!)"But that's impossible?" It was one of the balls of energy she'd seen fly off into random directions in the night sky.
Kagome cautiously reached out a hand for the baseball-sized orb. "It's smooth? Kind of like glass." The orb suddenly filled with black and white light. The lights would swirl together then separate. After each separation one light would dominate the other. It seemed this orb the black energy was the dominate one.
(Flash Back)
"Each of those orbs holds a memory and a power. He will remember and become stronger. Simply place your marked hand and the orb against his forehead. That should return his memories."
(End of Flash)
Kagome stole a glance at Inuyasha. 'I wonder if it works when he's sleeping?' She smoothed his bangs back and placed her marked hand on his forehead.
'Maybe I should wait. What if it's painful?' Sigh... "I guess there's always a "What if?" She gently pressed the round orb against his forehead and watched as the orb's black glow became brighter then slowly merged with Inuyasha's body.
Kagome felt a large jolt of energy run up her arm as the orb fully merged with Inuyasha. Suddenly every thing went black.

"Wha... What happened?" Kagome looked around. All she could see was her own body everything else was absolute darkness.
`It's just like the last time, when that woman was in my dream.'... "What's going on?" She turned around in a circle expecting to hear the women's voice.
She couldn't believe what she was seeing. A small speck of light was rapidly growing in size. As the light got bigger the colors inside started to swirl. Kagome flinched as the vortex of light rushed at her, and closed her eyes as the colors of light washed over her.
After a minute of feeling nothing she reluctantly took a peek at her surroundings. Her eyes open wide in surprise. `I'm in a forest?'
"Well this is different." She mumbled sarcastically. Kagome took a few steps before she heard voices off to the side. Curiosity got the better of her once again as she made her way toward the voices. She hid behind a tree looking into the clearing infront of her. A woman and three children were playing in a clear. Kagome smiled at their game of tag.
`I wonder where `this' is?'
“It's time to go home!” Kagome turned to see a woman standing beside her calling out to the children.
“Oh hi there, my-“… Kagome watched as the women turned and walked away with the children following close behind.
“Well that was rude. I wonder if I should follow them?” Suddenly the scenery around her disappeared it was completely dark again.
“Sigh. Not again.” Kagome stood still as the scenery started changing once again.
She was standing in back of a little hut. Looking around she noticed the same three kids playing tag again.
“Inuyasha you're so weird!” A small girl with dark hair called out.
“No I'm not!” Yelled back a slightly older boy with black and white hair.
“Yea hu! I heard papas friend say so him self. He said he's never seen a golden eyed child with black and white hair before.” Informed a boy of similar looks to the young girl.
“Shut up! What does he know any ways?!”
Kagome watched as the little girl ran by her into the hut laughing with her other sibling.
She turned back to see Inuyasha siting in the grass starring up at the sky.
“I'm not weird.” His voice sounded confident.
Kagome watched as he looked down then back into the sky. At the moment a few stars had decided to make them selves seen.
“I'm not weird.” his voice wavered this time as he looked back up into the darkening sky. “Am I??”
Kagome walk up beside the young boy intent on comforting him.
“INU--YYASHAAA TIME TOOOO EATTT!!!!!!!”
“COMMING!” He jumped up. Kagome looked on in horror as her outstretched arm slid right through his body.
“What's going on.” Kagome yelled out
“Hurry up Inuyasha!”
“Coming mother!” he yelled back.

Kagome was still trying to get over the sock of her ghostly hand when she was hit by another realization.
“They-They called him... Inuyasha.” She watched in shock as the scenery disappeared. Her mind was rapidly forming explanation to what was going on.
She looked down at her arm. “If that was Inuyasha, that means that these are... are his memories.” She looked back up to see a starry night sky above her. The scenery had changed while she was thinking.
Kagome turned at the sound of a man voice.
“Listen Inuyasha you were always weird. Even as a child you never shed a tear. Just because you're different and weren't born into this family, doesn't mean we love you any less than our own. Now stop being stubborn and get down here!”
Kagome turned to see a ten year old Inuyasha sitting in a tree. While a man she assumed to be his father talking to him from below.
“You should have told me.” Inuyasha said
“Does it make that much of a difference??”
She watched as Inuyasha continued to look down at the man. “I'll be home for dinner.” Inuyasha sighed out.
“Now Inuyasha don't-“
“I just need some time to think. I'll be home for dinner. I promise.”
“All right just be careful. There are demons around here.” His father warned.
“Yea. yea. I know. Why does everyone fear them so much?? There must be some good demons out there.”
“There's no such thing as a good demon. All demons are evil and only live to kill. Is that understood?” His voice was stern and left no room for argument. The way he was looking at Inuyasha sent shivers down her spin.
“Yes father I understand.”
“Good I'll see you at dinner.” He walked away leaving a thoughtful Inuyasha in the tree.
The sky was dark and full of stars when Inuyasha finally hopped down from the tree. He made it look so easy, landing lightly on his feet from such a high perch.
Inuyasha lifted his hands and stared at them. “Father I hope your wrong because I think...No I fear that I am one of the demon we fear so much.”
Kagome watched as Inuyasha leaned back against the tree and looked off into the night sky.
Slowly the image faded leaving only the blackness once again.

Kagome sighed as the scene changed again. “I shouldn't be watching his memories. They're private.”
The new scene became clear and Kagome watch as a group of men came running by with swords and arrows.
-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-
“There's been a demon sighed near Shiroku's home! Hurry.” A large muscular man ordered.
For some reason Kagome felt the need to follow, and she did. Eventually ending up infront of what she assumed was Shiroku's home. She walked around the battle ready men to get a better look at what was going on.
“Wh…” She was speechless.
Inuyasha was fighting a giant bear with his adoptive father and brother. They were fighting a losing battle, each time the monstrous demon struck they would be forced to move back closer to their home to avoid the attack.
“ATT—“ The leader voice was cut off as the demon made a powerful swipe with his paw efficiently throwing Inuyasha and his two family members through their barn wall. The demon started to laugh.
“Humans how pathetic.” The demonic chuckle sent shivers down her spin.
Kagome turned to the group of fighters who were simply staring at the large demon. “What are you doing help them!!” She yelled. She went to grab one of the men but her arm passed through him. Kagome balled her fist in understanding. `These are only memories I can change anything because I'm not really here.'
The leader of the fighters finally woke up from his daze. “Archers! Fire!”
They all fired at the same time. The demon spun around with an angry roar as the arrows pierced his skin. “Stupid humans! I'll feed upon your scrawny flesh!”
“Get out of here demon. You're out numbered!” The village fighters shouted together.
“Are you all that eager to die for a half-breed?” The demon Growled angrily
“Half breed?” They all murmured obviously confused.
The demon let out a roar of laughter. “Humans? Are you all stupid, can't even distinguish a filthy half breed from one of your own?”
“We don't have any half-breeds living in our village.” The leader of the group had found his voice again. “We wouldn't let one of your kind or even half kind live within this village.” His voice held nothing but pure hatred when he spoke of demons. The rest of his men agreed with him. Shouting out comments like; “Damn straight, Yea, You bet, Never, Not while I'm still alive.”
“The demon began to laugh again... then explain him.” Kagome watched as the demon grabbed a seemingly knocked out Inuyasha from inside the barn and tossed him in view of the village fighters.
“Inuyasha isn't any type of demon. You foolish bear demon. The boy barely even talks to anyone, he sits in trees all day, and help with the live stalk.”
The demon seemed amused. “Inuyasha you mean the pathetic half-breed has a name. Tell me human how many of you are there with golden eyes or white hair??”
The leader remained silent obviously not knowing any.
“As expected. Human are stupid and weak. I can smell his filthy blood. A human and a Dog demon intertwined with holy power. It disgusts me. I'll make sure to end it miserable life before finishing the rest of you.”
Kagome watched in fear as the demon reached down to grab Inuyasha.
Inuyasha rolled to the side just out of the bear demons reach.
“Looks like you still have some life in you half breed. I'll gladly take care of that.” The bear demon swung its massive fist straight down intending to crush Inuyasha with is brutal strength. The fist hit the ground and sent dust and dirt every where making it hard to see.
“Well that wasn't any fun. How pathetic.” The demon lifted its fist out of the small crater. The dust slowly settled. Show a slightly roughed up Inuyasha standing with his arms crossed.
“Is that all a mighty bear demon has to offer? How...”Inuyasha paused before mocking the demon with its own words. “How pathetic.”
“I'm going to kill you. Then every one in this village for keeping something as lowly as you, alive for so long. First I'll get rid of the distractions.” The bear demon turned and shot a dark beam of energy from its mouth at his bother and father. He got there in time for his back to take the full force of the blast.
Inuyasha fell to his hands and knees with his back smoldering from the heat of the blast. The bear demon laughed. “How foolish taking on the full force of my attack.”
Inuyasha couldn't hear a word the demon was saying. His was in a world of pain it felt like it was about to explode. The only problem was the pain was coming from inside his body. Something felt like it was trying to push its way out of his back. And he couldn't hold it back much longer.
The demon was walking forward slowly. “A half demon still conscious after taking a direct hit from my attack. How strange. But that doesn't matter, time to die—“
Inuyasha let out a ferrous yell. As two large objects burst from his back. Forcing the bear demon to leap back out of caution.
“Oh my God.” Kagome whispered as she watched the scene play out before her. “Those are his wings.”
Inuyasha stood up on unsteady feet. Obviously it wasn't the easiest thing to sprout wings. Kagome flinched slightly as she noticed all the blood covering his wings.
Everyone including the demon was surprised by the sudden transformation. Inuyasha's wings opened fully but forcefully removing a lot of the blood that had covered them. It was a stunning sight. `That has to be a wingspan of at least 15 feet. All of that was inside of him? Amazing!' Kagome thought as she gazed upon him.
“Disgusting little half-breed.” The bear demon charged forward with his giant paw raised.
The swing came and Inuyasha smoothly vaulted over it with one hand. “So you're faster eh? Won't make much of a difference, because one hit from my claws and it's all over half breed.”
“Just Leave Me Alone!” Inuyasha shouted back.
Watch whom your talking to filth. “(JAGGED BLADES!!!)” four green crescent moon shaped beams of light flew at Inuyasha. He leaped out of the way just in time as the blades left 4 deep gashes in the ground where he'd been standing. He was shocked.
`C-Can all demons do that?' He wondered as he gazed at the markings in the ground.
WHAM!!!!
A punch connected solidly under Inuyasha's chin sending him rocketing upward. The bear demon didn't worry about Inuyasha anymore. Confidence in his strength leading him to believe that the half breed was dead or either knocked out, with a broken jaw.
Kagome wasn't prepared for what she witnessed next.
Inuyasha had flipped in mid air was now flapping his wing to keep himself airborne. Inuyasha closed his wings and shot like a bullet back towards the bear, coming in at an angle. His arm was cocked back ready to deliver a devastating blow.
The demon turned around to see what the villagers were looking at. Inuyasha fist barreled directly into the demons' chest and continued through to come out his back.
The demon stood stunned unable to comprehend what had just happened. Slowly it slumped forward. Kagome saw the look of shock that was on both of their face the demon couldn't believe he'd just been dealt a fatal blow but a ten-year-old half demon.
The look on Inuyasha's face was by far worse. He was shaking. Kagome watch as he ripped his hand free stumbled back a mask of fear completely covering his face. The bear demon fell to the ground dead. There was blood every where.
Inuyasha was looking at his blood-covered hand in complete disbelief. He looked up at the villagers only for them to ready their weapons.
“I- I didn't mean to. It wa-“ Inuyasha started. That was before he looked at their faces.
They were all beyond scared and Kagome couldn't really blame them. Inuyasha was covered in blood, and his wings made him look bigger than he truly was. He stood up and took a step forward. Kagome could tell that this was the beginning of the end. Fear, anger, and betrayal were all firmly etched in the villager's faces.
“Get away demon!” The leader shouted.
“But I-“ He took a small step forward as he tried to explain
Someone fired and arrow and missing Inuyasha by a mere inch.
“You have to listen it tried to hurt my family. I had to—“
“Don't mess with us demon. We know your kind.” One of the men cut in.
Inuyasha took another step obviously trying to get closer to those, whom he considered to be his people.
He was forced back by a volley of arrows. “Get away from us you freak. You heard the bear demon you're the only reason it came to our village.” Inuyasha turned to his adoptive mother obviously hoping for her support.
“Mother...” Inuyasha whisper.
Kagome couldn't believe what she was seeing. The women practically ran behind the village fighters.
“Get out of here demon.”
Someone fired an arrow that pierced Inuyasha right shoulder. He looked down completely stunned. `Th-They shot me…' Another arrow was fired nicking his ear. His eyes opened wide in fear as he looked back up at the fighters. The only thing he could see was hatred. Survival, the first and simplest of instincts grabbed hold of Inuyasha, and he ran.
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
The memory faded leaving Kagome in the dark once again. She shivered. “Nobody deserves that. Couldn't they see he was protecting them?” She felt numb. “Nobody could do that. Could they?”
Kagome blinked as she noticed the scenery was changing again. “Damn it not again.” Her eyes started to tear up. `I don't know if I can handle anymore.'
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Inuyasha was sitting at the base of a tree looking into the night sky. He seemed to be in deep thought. Kagome just sat there trying to figure why this would in his memories.
Kagome jumped slightly when he started speaking quietly into the night.
“I'm a demon... no that's right ...I'm a half demon that was raise by humans, but even the humans that raised me. Hate me. I have no place in this world.” He sighed and looked up at the stars. “What kind of God would put me on this world just to be hated. Is this my fate to be alone and hated till the day my life expires? I'm a human yet I am a demon but neither will ever accepted me and both have proven to be equally untrustworthy. I will not be so easily swayed from this day forth demon and human shall receive no mercy from me. I will survive without their aid.”
Kagome suddenly felt like she was falling down a dark tunnel. The vortex she had seen earlier was now moving away for her and shrinking in size. Gradually everything went black.
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
She blinked and there she was back in the real world. `I'm back?'
She looked to the sky morning was an hour or less away.
Looking down at her lap, Inuyasha seemed to be sweating heavily, and he was frowning almost like he was in pain.
She placed a reassuring hand on his chest and whispered comforting words hoping to calm his nightmares. “It's all right Inuyasha.” She whispered softly. “They're only memories.” Kagome jump slightly when Inuyasha hand came up to cover hers. She sighed as the frown slow ebbed away.
The sun finally made its grand appearance just over the top of the trees giving Kagome the perfect view of a beautiful sunrise.
She hesitated before giving Inuyasha a gentle shake on his shoulder. Kagome let out a small giggle as he groaned and snuggled closer to stomach.
“Come on. You have to wake up.”
Kagome watched as sleepy eyes opened up to hers. She watch as his eyes ran through an hundred emotions before landing on one she wasn't prepared for. Fear.
`Where am I what's going on?? Someone's trying to kill me in my sleep.' Inuyasha's body reacted on it own throwing himself a good ten feet away from a startled Kagome.
Inuyasha had landed ready to fight or run which ever seemed more intelligent at the time. He was having trouble standing and his vision was blurry.
`Wh- what the hells going on.' He wondered as he fought to see straight
“Are you OK?” Kagome asked in a slight panic as he stumbled from side to side.
Inuyasha finally looked down at the spot he'd previously been occupying trying desperately to gain back his equilibrium.
“I think you should sit down you-“
“Shut up women.” He stumbled but caught himself.
Why that little ungrateful...
“You Jerk! Who do you think you are! I stayed up most of the night making sure you were OK!”
“I said-“ he suddenly couldn't hold himself up and fell backwards. Landing with a heavy thud.
Kagome despite her annoyance hurried forward to make sure he was all right.
“Baka be careful. Now sit up slowly”. She helped him into a siting position.
“I don't need your help woman. I'm fine!” He went to shove her back but his arm froze.
“YOU CANNOT HARM HER!” A woman's voice screamed harshly in his mind. “You are her servant half breed. Do not for get your place again!” The woman's voice switched to a cold one. “Or else…”
Inuyasha brought his hands to his head. The loud voice seemed to echo the threat as it rebounded from one side of his mind to the other creating unbelievable pain. It felt as if someone was constantly punching him in the head...
Kagome saw his hand stop a good foot from her. It'd looked as if he was going to push her back but he'd suddenly frozen. Kagome watched as he grabbed his head and gritted his teeth in pain.
Kagome reached a hand over to comfort him but he rolled away from her.
`What in the hell is going on? He grabbed his arm. Numb? I didn't hit anything. I know I didn't' He cautiously slid further away from the girl. `Is she some type of witch or a sacred maiden.' Those thoughts didn't sit well with him at all. ` Damn a demon I can handle, but their kind are smart. Sacred maidens used holy power and witches used evil magic.' He remembered seeing many demons fall to both. 'Well I'm not a demon nor am I stupid.' He turned and ran.
Kagome watched in shock as Inuyasha turned from her ran away. `What's he doing?' Her eyes opened wide when she saw his wing open wide.
“Stop!” She yelled. He gave one beat of his wings and was air born. `Oh my God he's leaving me! What do I do?'
`That bitch can't catch me.' He had a smug smile on his face. Without warning a bolt of pain was sent throughout his whole body. The pain was so intense his body stiffened like a rock. `I-I can't move. I'm slowing down. With this kind of speed and the angle me wings were at I'm going to…
'
*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*
Kagome watch from a distance as Inuyasha got further and further away from her. Her hand was starting to itch really badly. And she still couldn't think of anything to do to stop it or Inuyasha from leaving her in the middle of the forest.
“God it's really starting to hurt.” She ground out.
She looked down at her hand and remembered two things. One, she couldn't be to far from Inuyasha without her hand feeling like someone was trying to drive a stake through it. Two, she had to tell him it was an order before he actually complied. `It's to late now he's too far away to hear me.' Her eyes went wide when she saw him suddenly stall in mid air and start plummeting toward the ground.
“Oh no!” She took off toward Inuyasha's inevitable landing sight.
