Chapter 3: "But what should I wear!?"
Last Chapter…..
"Well when you've been through what I've been through you tend to get over things quickly." Kagome then just realized she was arguing with a complete stranger who had just saved her life. "What's your name by the way?"
"I thought you would never ask."
"So what is it?"
"You tell me yours first."
"Fine. It's Kagome Higurashi."
"Inuyasha. Just Inuyasha."

This Chapter……
Kagome laughed to herself. It was the first time in a very long time. "So tell me JUST Inuyasha, do you go around stalking and saving poor, pathetic girls like me all day, or did I just get lucky?"
"I guess you just got lucky." He said arrogantly, crossing his arms for affect while he stuck his nose in the air.
Kagome rolled her eyes. `This guy can't be for real, he is so full of himself!' She thought. And yet, for some reason she wanted him to stay.
"So what's your occupation, you know where you work…" she continued.
"Yah I know what an occupation is thanks, I don't need you to spell it out for me. And I'm a bachelor at the moment. I don't really know what I want to do with my life yet."
"Bachelor isn't an occupation." She said flatly.
"For me it is. My parents were pretty well off for their age and they helped me get a nice apartment on the upper side of the city. At the moment, I am financially supported enough to get along without a job."
"Must be nice."
"What?"
"To have both your parents." There was a quick pause.
"Don't you…"
"No. My father died when I was seven and my mom died before I was out of 12th grade because she was a heavy alcoholic. I don't have any siblings either. Just me myself and I for almost as long as I can remember."
They walked in silence for a while. `Why are you pouring your heart out to this guy like some pathetic loser, especially when you just met him! Snap out of it girl before you start asking him for a meal ticket!' She thought. She wiped a small tear forming on her lower eyelashes as discreetly as she could, but unfortunately it didn't go un-noticed.
"I'm sorry." Said Inuyasha.
"Don't be. I've been getting along fine for the past 21 years" `that's not true you lier!' "and I don't think that's going to change just because you're sorry." She snapped, maybe a little too harshly.
"I was tryin' to be nice! You don't have to bite my head of ya know!"
Kagome sighed. "I know, sorry it's just been a very bad day and a lot of times I don't even realize that I'm snapping at people and there are a lot of problems that are going on and I just don't know if I'll be able to handle all of it at one time and….."
Inuyasha boldly took her hands in his. "Calm down." She looked from their hands to his eyes for a moment and then pulled her hands back. "Thank you. I tend to um, go off the edge at times."
"Yah, I noticed." He said.
Kagome looked up and realized that she was already at her apartment. "Well this is where I live,so thanks again and bye." She said hurriedly trying to avoid looking in his eyes again, seeing as last time she couldn't stop. She was half way to the door when…
"Kagome! Wait," he walked up to her, "wait."
"I'm waiting." She stated.
"Are you attached?"
"huh?"
"Are you single?"
"Oh," she blushed. "at the moment yes, I guess." `At the moment? HA you haven't been on a date since Kouga and that was ages ago!' said the annoying little voice in her head.
"Well then, I, I was wondering if you wanted to do something with me tonight…"
"What kind of something?"
"I don't know just… something!" he said a little irritated at being made to wait.
"Wow, um, Inuyasha, I think you're really nice and all, but I just don't know if I'm ready to go out on a date yet… my last boyfriend kind of left me," she paused for a moment. "scarred." She finished.
"Oh," he said, looking a little crestfallen. "yah I understand, my last girlfriend left me because of… circumstances and I don't think I've ever fully gotten over her." He pulled a piece of paper out of his pocket and a dull pen. He scribbled some numbers on the paper and handed it to her. "Well, if you change your mind, this is my number." He looked up into her eyes again. "Nice meeting you Kagome Higurashi." And with that he left her standing at her door with a piece of paper clutched tightly in her hand.

Inuyasha walked a few more blocks trying to figure out what came over him. He hadn't asked a girl out since Kikyou. Could it possibly be because Kagome resembled Kikyou so much? No, he hadn't realized it until he turned the corner. It was something about that girl that made him want to show off, want to be bold. He walked into a car repair shop where ironically, Usher's "You Remind Me (of a girl)" was playing on the radio. He threw his white shirt off revealing a six pack of finely toned muscle. He slipped a junky and oily jump suit on over his black jeans and pulled some thick gloves on over his hands. There was a necklace that had teeth and beads on it that Inuyasha rarely took off and he removed his trucker hat revealing two white dog ears on top of his long silver hair. He walked into the next room and shouted to his friend.
"Hey Miroku." He said.
A rather handsome young man around Inuyasha's age put his head out from under the trunk to respond. He had short black hair that was pulled into a small ponytail and he wore 3 very sexy gold hoop earrings on his left ear (A/N: I'm not sure if it's actually his left, I am just guessing at the moment.).
"That was a pretty long break yash, what took so long?" (another A/N: I usually am opposed to calling Inuyasha `yash' but I can't think of a better nickname and I am too lazy to spell it out every time.).
"What can I say it's a big city. And it's not like I work here or somethin'."
"Yes, but you did agree to help out today."
"Feh. Agreements were made to be broken and I might need to leave early."
"I thought the saying was promises were made to be broken?"
"Promises, agreements, either way I gotta leave early tonight."
"Ahh I see, have plans by any chance? Or more importantly does she have a friend?"
"Is that all you ever think about."
"Damn straight." (A/N: I know it doesn't sound like something Miroku would say, but I don't care.).
Inuyasha rolled his eyes. "Look I asked a girl out and…"
"Wait, Inuyasha managed to ask a girl out without crushing them with his ego? She must be pretty strong."
"Ha ha very funny. I asked her out but she said she wasn't ready to date yet. Something about her being scarred by some other guy. Anyways, I left her my number and I'm…"
"Just hoping that you gave off some sort of animal magnetism, some sort of charm, that would make her want to call you?"
"Pretty much." He said in his all too sure of himself voice.
"You never cease to amaze me yash."
"And how's that huh?"
"No matter how many times you are turned down, you somehow manage to pump your ego up larger than before… incredible…"
Inuyasha turned away and left his best friend in thought. `I hope I didn't come off too strong…' he thought. `damn I don't know why she is making me feel like this, but I really hope she calls…."

Kagome sat on her couch staring at her phone that sat on her coffee table. She bit her nails nervously and looked at the clock on her wall.
`What if it's too late? He probably thinks I'm some sort of rude helpless freak.'
`That's not true, just call him- he gave you his number for a reason.' She argued with herself.
`But what if he…'
`What if what if what if? You can't spend your whole life asking what if! Just pick up the phone and dial his number. It's not that hard.'
`No, I can't. I'm too…'
`Too what?'
`Scared! Okay? What if he is just like Kouga? I don't need any more abuse in my life right now.'
`Look, Kouga cut you really deep, but you have to move on. You will heal, and this guy might be just what you need!'
Kagome sat up and nervously picked up her phone. Her hands shook as she dialed the digits written barely legible on the torn piece of paper. She heard a familiar voice pick up on the other line.
"Yash here."
"Um, h-hi. It's Kagome, and I was just calling to see if it was too late for that date?"
He sounded immediately happier. "Uh, no, no it's not too late. Can I pick you up at 7:00?"
Kagome glanced at her clock. It was 5:30, she didn't have much time, but she could rush.
"Sure, seven sounds great. Do you remember where my place is?"
"Yah. So…."
"So…."
"I guess I'll see you then?"
"Okay, bye."
"Bye."
Kagome hung up her phone with a satisfying click. She felt pretty confident until a terrifying thought struck her.
"But what should I wear!?" she shrieked.
