InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Last Lifeline ❯ Good times and bad break-ups ( Chapter 11 )

Kanaye: YES!!! Everyone, you all just got REALLY lucky! My dad decided not to take the computer in until TOMORROW which means you all get a new chapter!!!! Well I am not going to waste any of my valuable time going off on a tangent so *ahem* I do not own any of the Inuyasha characters blah blah blah…… don't sue….. OK that's done here is chapter 7…. I think…. I get so mixed up because of all the authors notes I post…. OH YAH! In this chapter I am going to try something different in one part- I am going to put the title of a song and sort of put a description collage of all these different snapshots… oh you will see later, but just keep in mind I am trying it for the first time so bear with me here!

Chapter 7:Good timesandbadbreak-up s

Kagome's head rang just from screaming inside herself. Man did she have a hangover. But her headache was about the furthest thing from her mind seeing as she was a little pre-occupied with the half naked man pressed up against her! Kagome was having trouble thinking. What should she do? Should she move and wake him up? Should she confront him? Should she run away and pretend it never happened? What did happen for that matter……? Well, that question was enough to make up her mind. She needed to know what she did…. What he did….. what they did….. She gulped loudly and shifted a little. That's when she felt Inuyasha's arm move her in tighter as though she was some sort of blanket. Her eyes widened and she started to sweat a little bit.

Inuyasha felt himself drifting back into reality against his own will. He felt something warm and smooth next to him. He liked how it felt so he moved it closer to him. That's when…. "I-Inuyasha?" asked a timid voice. Inuyasha's eyes sprang open realizing that the warmth next to him was, `Kagome! Shit, I must have fallen asleep last night before I had a chance to leave the bed. I just hope Miroku and the others haven't woken up already- this is definitely not what it looks like.' He thought to himself. He heard his name again. Inuyasha removed his arm and sat up getting out of bed. Kagome felt the release of pressure and rolled over to see Inuyasha siloutted against the morning light, his sculpted chest, his long silver hair hanging loosely around him…. Kagome shook the thought from her head and tried to find her voice again. "What am I doing here?" She said as she attempted to sit up. She clutched her head in pain and fell back down again. Inuyasha tried to hide his smirk as he saw the sight. He had never imagined her hungover before. It was almost… cute. "Come on, I'll get you something for your head and will explain everything." He put a hand out for Kagome. Kagome was honestly confused as to why he was acting so calm about all of this, but she looked into his soft eyes and took his hand anyway, stumbling out of the bed- accidentally tripping into Inuyasha's bare chest. She blushed furiously but let him help her out of the room and into his kitchen. She didn't open her eyes very wide so she didn't really look at his whole apartment (A/N: I will describe it to all of you later). She sat down on a stool and rested her head with a `thunk' on the counter. She heard Inuyasha rummaging for a while and looked up as he set a glass of fizzing clear liquid, an aspirin, and chicken noodle soup in front of her. She looked up at him questioningly.

"Just eat it- all of it- it will help." So she sat up shakily, took the aspirin, quickly realizing that the liquid was sprite- and then she finished off the soup and drink. Inuyasha waited until she finished.

"Better?" he asked. Kagome nodded her head. It definitely had helped. Kagome sat in silence for a moment and then spoke up.

"Tell me what happened- and don't leave anything out." Inuyasha nodded and then proceeded to tell her exactly what had happened that night. He saw her expressions change and noticed the intense blush and how much her eyes widened as he told her some of the things she had said. When he finished Kagome looked up at him.

"So n-nothing..?"

"No. I would never do that to you." He said quietly. Kagome stood up and walked around the counter to him. She hugged him tightly.

"Thank you." She whispered.

"Come on- Rin and Sango might wake up soon." He replied. Kagome pulled away and followed Inuyasha to his front door. She kissed him lightly and then quietly turned the doorknob, giving Inuyasha one last smile before she tiptoed to Rin's apartment. Kagome closed Rin's apartment door quietly and breathed a sigh of relief seeing that her two companions were still asleep. She walked over to the couch, plopping herself down and observed the previous night's damage. She saw 3 empty wine bottles laying in different locations and three abandoned wine glasses rolled in opposite directions. She picked up the wine glasses and set them in the sink and then took the wine bottles and put them back into Rin and Sango's hiding spot, just to ensure that no one would find out about their "secret stash" or their little party the night before. Right as Kagome sat back down on the couch to wait for her friends to wake up, she saw Rin stir as well as Sango. They both moaned as they tried to sit up as Kagome had. Sango looked up at Kagome and grinned the best she could despite her headache.

"Guess we got a little carried away, huh?" she said. Kagome nodded. `You have no idea…'

"I have a way to get rid of those headaches though." She said. Rin and Sango dragged themselves up onto the couch and about 10 minutes later Kagome set down two sprites, two aspirins, and two bowls of chicken noodle soup. The girls looked at her like she had Inuyasha. "It works, I already had some earlier this morning." She said.

"How long have you been up?" asked Rin as she slurped her soup.

"Oh, only about 45 minutes." She said truthfully. She changed into her day clothes while her friends finished eating and when she returned, she found all of the blankets and pillows put away, and two very happy girls sitting on the couch, with their day clothes on as well.

"How did you guys get dressed so quickly?" she said.

"That stuff you gave us worked REALLY well!" Said Sango brightly. Kagome joined her friends on the couch and they turned the tv on, right as Miroku walked in.

"Ever heard of knocking?" said Sango.

"Good morning to you to my love." He said as he planted a soft kiss on her. "So you had fun last night then?" The three girls exchanged looks. "Yah I guess so…" Said Sango. As soon as Miroku left the room all three girls burst out laughing. Once they had recovered Sango spoke again.

"Kagome, I have to man my club again tonight- you wanna come along?"

"Sure, that would be great!" She replied.

"Sorry Sango, I can't make it tonight. I have to… I have plans with Sesshomaru." Rin blushed at her statement. Kagome didn't really understand and it showed. Sango grunted.

"It just means that she's gonna fuck him." Said Sango casually. Rin hit Sango's arm and blushed even deeper.

"Shut up Sango!!!" Kagome laughed at them. They basically chilled the rest of the day and around 5 pm Sango and Kagome started getting ready for the club that night. Kagome wore the outfit she had bought the previous day and Sango put her leather pants on and a slinky gold shirt. They ate a quick salad and then said goodbye to Rin, heading off to the club. Right as Kagome and Sango were going down on the elevator, Inuyasha walked into Rin's room.

"Where's Kagome?" he asked.

"Oh, she just left to help Sango with the club tonight!" She said happily. Inuyasha ran out the door and down the elevator. He ran out the front doors just as Sango and Kagome sped away down the road. He stood still right as Rin burst out through the door and rested on her knees as she caught her breath.

"What…. Was that?" she asked breathlessly.

"I was gonna ask her out again." He admitted. Rin rolled her eyes.

"Inuyasha, you really are that simple minded aren't you?" she said humorously.

"What does that mean?" he said a little to harshly. Rin just laughed at him again.

"Yash, you didn't need to run down to the car as though you were running from your death just to talk to her. You have her phone number- you can call her on her cell phone."

"Shit." He said realizing that Rin was right and he felt pretty stupid standing on the curb in his bare feet for no reason. He went back inside with Rin and cleaned up. Around 7:30 pm he grabbed his car keys and walked out the door.

"Where are you going?" asked Miroku.

"I'm gonna go see Kagome down at Sango's club."

"I didn't know she worked there."

"She doesn't, but Sango needed an extra pair of hands tonight."

"Ah… I think I will visit my dove as well."

"What the hell is with the `dove' thing?"

"It is just what I like to call Sango."

"Not anymore." Interjected Rin.

"Bu-!" said Miroku.

"No. Just no." Rin rolled her eyes. "Going to visit Kagome?" Inuyasha nodded but was obviously getting irritated with people asking him. Rin looked at her watch and gave out a small squeal. "Oh my god I'm running so late!!! Have fun, bye!" she said as she hurried back into her apartment.

"Wonder what she's in such a hurry for?" wondered Inuyasha aloud. Miroku shrugged his shoulders and followed Inuyasha out to his car where they headed off towards Sango's night club.

Kagome wiped out a glass and smiled at the customer on the other side of the bar. Sango had shown her the drinks and prices and Kagome was enjoying herself quite a bit. She poured another drink and handed it to a new face.

"There you go sir!" she said brightly. She felt a hand on her shoulder and she jumped.

"Sango! Don't scare me like that!" she said as she playfully hit her friend.

"Sorry, I was just coming to check up on things. How is it going?" she said.

"It's going great! I really like working here!" Sango laughed at her.

"Well good! Because I was thinking that I could hire you 3 nights a week- would you want to? The pay is really good and I promise it would be worth it and….." She was cut off by Kagome hugging her.

"Seriously? I would love that!!!" Kagome said excitedly.

"You're hired then!!" Sango said happily before walking off to inform the bouncers of their new employee. Kagome was thrilled. `I have new friends, a new job, a new…' Kagome turned her head and found herself being swept into a warm, deep kiss. `…boyfriend.' She finished in her mind.

"Hey." Inuyasha said huskily.

"Hlh." Was about all she could reply. Sango walked over to the couple.

"I don't mind if you're here Inuyasha, but no sex at the bar please!" She felt herself pulled by the waist.

"Now are you sure about that?" said Miroku in her ear.

"Hello Miroku- and yes I am sure about that." She turned around so she was facing Miroku. "But…." She walked her fingers up his chest. "… I never said anything about the staff lounge…." She said seductively. Miroku took her hands and they walked off in the crowd, Sango giggling behind.

"Do you really think they will?" asked Kagome, mouth agape.

Inuyasha shook his head. "I can never really tell- all I know is that I'm never sittin' on the couches back there again." Kagome laughed at him.

"So what brings you here?"

"I was gonna ask you out…. Problems?"

"I don't know… depends on where you're taking me." She said teasingly.

"It's a surprise."

"Well what if I don't like suprises?"

"Well then I guess you're just gonna have to deal with it." He said as he brought her into another kiss giving her butt a light squeeze. Kagome pulled back and smirked at him.

"What was that for?" she laughed. Inuyasha indicated to a group of men staring at her.

"Just letting them know that you're taken."

"Am I now?"

"That's right." He said putting his arm around her waist. Kagome gave a little wave to the men and then kissed Inuyasha again. She saw the men put disappointed faces on and turn back to talking amongst themselves. Kagome pulled away and started making another drink.

"So I'll pick you up at 3 pm tomorrow then?" asked Inuyasha following her around as she served people their drinks. Kagome turned to him.

"That sounds great- now I have to get back to work. Don't wanna be fired on my first day now do I?" she said.

"You work here?" he said, slightly shocked. "That was fast."

"Yah it was. I was just going to help out but Sango said she'd like me to start working here on a regular basis! I have a job now!" She said cheerily as she went back to her work. Inuyasha followed her around again.

"Wait so how am I gonna know what nights you are open? Will you ever be open? Wh-?" Kagome put her fingers on his lips.

"Relax. It's only 3 nights a week- I'll still have time for you!" She pinched his cheek and then gave him a kiss. "Now goodnight Inuyasha- I will see you tomorrow at 3 pm and I can't wait, ok?" She started ushering him from behind the bar. He stopped one last time though.

"Yes Inuyasha?" she said a little impatiently.

"Dress casual." Kagome smiled and nodded and with that Inuyasha walked into the crowd and disappeared.

Sango drove up to Kagome's apartment.

"Thanks for driving me home- and thank you so much for the job and for the friendship and everything. It means a lot." Kagome said as she hugged Sango.

"No problem! You did a great job tonight- you're a natural. And I'm really glad you're my friend. Night!" Kagome grabbed her bag and her keys and closed the car door, waving goodbye one last time at the front doors to her building. She watched as Sango sped off in the other direction and then she walked over to the elevator. She shifted uncomfortably and decided that she couldn't wait until she got to her room, and she took her strappy heels off and walked barefoot to her room. She fumbled with her keys a bit, but eventually got it into the lock. After locking her door she hung up her purse, threw her shoes in her closet, and tossed the bag to the side. She stripped herself of her tight outfit and changed into booty shorts and an oversized t-shirt. She let her hair out from her clip and ruffled it a bit before literally falling onto her bed. She put herself under the covers and glanced at her watch. 1:37 am.

She sighed heavily and snuggled into her bed, falling asleep quickly with thoughts of a certain someone who she just couldn't get out of her mind….

Kagome was touching up her hair when she heard her doorbell ring. She grinned happily as she hurried over with her keys and purse in hand. She opened the door to see Inuyasha waiting for her. Inuyasha had to take a moment to marvel at how whatever she wore, she always looked like a goddess. Her hair was in a lose ponytail with bangs down and she was wearing casual jeans, 3 spaghetti strap shirts that were layered in white, purple, and lime green, a sweatshirt tied around her waist, and Inuyasha saw with a note of sadness that she was wearing sneakers and not high-heels. He snapped out of it and kissed her and they walked out to his car.

"So is there any chance of me finding out where we're going?" Asked Kagome casually.

"Nope." Said Inuyasha. Kagome nodded with a smile on her face and got into the car. Inuyasha turned the radio on and the started driving. Kagome actually got bold enough to sing out loud to one song and Inuyasha just laughed and she playfully punched him in the arm. Some more time went by and before she knew it, they had been driving for an hour and a half!

"Inuyasha…"

"We're almost there so quite your whinin'!" Kagome `humphed' crossing her arms and legs for affect. Kagome was silent until she glanced at her watch and realized it had been another 30 minutes.

"Inuyasha! It's 5 o' clock already!!! Where are we going!!"

"Relax babe we're here." He said as he pulled into a small gravel parking lot. "Sorry but you're gonna have to close your eyes for a minute until we get inside." Kagome closed her eyes and waited while Inuyasha came around and opened the door, guiding her outside. He started walking with her to a small diner, but she didn't know that.

"…. Don't call me `babe' and why is this all a big secret, huh? And since WHEN is thirty minutes almost there?? And…"

"Kagome shut up! I told you we were almost there to shut you up! God, why did I even tell you we were here! I could've gotten myself about 3 more minutes of peace!!" Kagome crossed her arms again as they walked and was silent for about 5 seconds until…

"Well I'm not shutting up just because you told me too and…"

"You can open your eyes now, we're inside." Said Inuyasha. Kagome observed the little diner.

"Inuyasha not to be a damper here but WHY did you drive me two hours just so we could sit at a cheap diner?!" she said her patience running dry.

"You'll find out after we eat." He said taking her hand and guiding her to a small booth. She looked skeptical, but picked up the menu. After a couple minutes a waiter came to the table.

"What can I get you?" she said in a friendly voice.

"I'll take the double cheeseburger, fries, and a coke." Said Inuyasha. The waiter wrote down the order. "And for you miss?"

"Um…." Kagome's eyes scanned the menu in a hurry seeing as she hadn't actually finished deciding yet. "..I'll have the same, but with a vanilla shake." The waitress took the menus.

"You're order'll be right up!" She said and she walked back to the kitchens.

Inuyasha smirked at her. "You've got good taste." Kagome rolled her eyes.

"Figures you would say that." They sat in silence for a moment until Inuyasha spoke up.

"So what do you want to do in life?" Kagome snorted. (A/N: yah know that sound between grunting and snorting? That's what I'm talking about).

"Well that's pretty general don't ya think?"

"I'm trying to be deep here! Work with me!" Kagome looked him in the eyes.

"Do you really want to know, or are you just trying to make it seem like you care?"

"Which one will get you to answer?" Kagome laughed at him.

"Try the truth."

"Well then yes, I am actually interested."

"Ok then. Well, it might sound stupid, but- do you promise not to laugh?"

"Promise." He said seriously.

"Ok well, I kind of want to start my own restaurant… I know it's dumb but…"

"Why would it be dumb?" asked Inuyasha.

"I don't know I just thought…."

"Well I guess you thought wrong then. You really shouldn't judge people before you know them." Said Inuyasha with his trademark smirk.

"Ok then wise guy, what exactly do you want to do in life?"

"If I told you that I would have to kill you." Kagome rolled her eyes right as the food arrived. Kagome felt stuffed, but in a good way as Inuyasha placed the money and the tip on the table.

Inuyasha glanced at his watch. "Ready to go?"

"Go? Go where? I thought this was it?" Said Kagome getting confused as Inuyasha took her hand and started walking to an exit on the opposite side of the diner.

"Yah right Kagome- like you said earlier, I wouldn't waste my time driving two hours to some cheap diner." Kagome shrugged and continued on out through the door. Inuyasha put his hands over her eyes again.

"Just hold on one more minute." He said as he walked her forward. He stopped and then whispered in her ear. "Open your eyes." He released his hands as Kagome opened her eyes to see a towering and magnificent balloon rising in front of her. There was a team of men who were keeping the balloon there and another man waiting in the balloon to guide them.

"Inuyasha, is this for real? How did you know I've always wanted to go on a balloon ride?" she said excitedly.

"Because I know everything." He replied. `That was one hell of a lucky guess there.' He thought to himself. Kagome hugged him and started walking to the balloon, her hand in his. She got on and as soon as the balloon took off she clung onto Inuyasha's waist. She looked out as soon as they were up in the air.

"Oh Inuyasha…" she gasped. "This is absolutely gorgeous!" They were flying over green grassy fields and brooks as the sun was setting in a spectacular show of pink, orange, red, and yellow.

Inuyasha took her chin with his fingers and turned her head towards his. "You're gorgeous." He looked deep into her misty eyes and saw her hair blowing in the wind. She tilted in and their lips locked in a kiss much more passionate than any before. Inuyasha's tongue begged for entry and Kagome all too willingly allowed it. He explored her mouth, twisting and turning, tasting all of her. She tasted so sweet, also like vanilla, curtousy of the shake for dinner. He tangled his fingers in her blowing locks and she placed her hands on his shoulders. Inuyasha put his arm around her waist pulling her deeper into the kiss. He slowly started making the movements smaller, his kisses slower until he closed altogether and planted a small ending motion on her soft lips. She pulled back just enough to see his eyes and then leaned in for more when she heard a shifting behind them. She turned to remember that the man steering their balloon was still there. She blushed as Inuyasha whispered in her ear.

"We'll finish this back on the ground." Kagome nodded regretfully and then rested her head on his chest, his arms still around her, as they enjoyed the rest of the balloon ride. By the time they landed on the ground, there were stars in the sky. Kagome admitted it felt weird to be back on the ground as they walked to Inuyasha's car. He opened the door for her and then got into the drivers seat. About 30 minutes into the drive Inuyasha glanced to see that Kagome had fallen asleep. She looked so innocent. Her eyes closed softly, her creamy skin glowing in the moonlight, and her soft, full lips slightly parted. Her lips were practically begging to be kissed, but Inuyasha didn't want to wake her up, so he placed a light kiss on her forehead. She shifted a little bit and scooted over until she was against Inuyasha. She snuggled into his chest and Inuyasha put one of his arms around her shoulder, hugging her closer.

Kagome felt the car shut off and she opened her eyes to find Inuyasha unbuckling. She slowly sat up and got out of the car. Inuyasha walked her up to her apartment.

"Sorry I fell asleep Inuyasha, I feel so stupid. It was only 9:00 when I drifted off!"

"It's fine, it was dark, you were tired, you don't need to apologize." He said. Kagome realized they were at her door.

"Inuyasha, what you did for me today- that was the most romantic, sweet, and thoughtful thing that anyone has ever done for me." She looked up at his eyes. `Just say it… tell him how you feel.' She took a deep breath but stopped. "I…um…" she sighed. "Thank you so much." `Wuss. You should've just… just…' her thoughts came to a halt as she melted away in his kiss.

"You're welcome. Night Kagome." He said quietly as he walked away to the elevator.

*Kagome answering phone and blushing* Inuyasha handing her a red rose* Inuyasha and Kagome dressed fancy at a restaurant* Kagome in her bikini and Inuyasha trying to hide his blush and his growing member* Kagome and Inuyasha eating lunch on a blanket in the sand* Kagome splashing Inuyasha in the waves* close up of Inuyasha and Kagome kissing with the sunset behind them* Kagome primping in her room*

*Inuyasha and Kagome at the movies eating popcorn*

*Inuyasha slowly creeping his arm over Kagome as she watches the movie*

"Be with you every night, am I squeezin' you too tight? If I could say what I wanna see,"

*Inuyasha on top of Kagome at his apartment making out*

"I say I wanna see you, oh on me, marry me today, guess I'm wishin' my life away,"

*Kagome and Inuyasha at the park holding hands*

"On these things I'll never say. What's wrong with my song?"

*Kagome and Inuyasha sopping wet and caught in the rain*

"These words keep slippin' away,"

*Kagome with her head back in the rain and her arms out a smile on her face*

"I stutter, I stumble, like I've got nothin' to say,"

*Inuyasha kissing Kagome in the middle of the rain*

"feelin' nervous, tryin' to be so perfect, because I know you're worth it,"

*Kagome greeting Inuyasha in nothing but a towel*

"You're worth it, yah." Chorus

*Inuyasha playing a game at the fair and losing* Kagome playing the same game and winning as Inuyasha stands mouth agape* Kagome giving Inuyasha the large teddy bear* Kagome kissing Inuyasha on the ferris wheel* Inuyasha and Kagome kissing in the middle of a grassy field* Kagome catching fireflies*

*Kagome asleep in Inuyasha's arms under a blanket on his couch*

"Oh, on these things I'll never say."

"Can you believe it Rin? It is going to be our one month anniversary in just one week!" marveled Kagome.

"It's amazing Kagome, really it is, but I sort of lost the enthusiasm when you told me the 400th time today." Said Rin flatly.

Kagome laughed guiltily. "Sorry. So what happened with you and Sessho-?" Kagome was interrupted as she heard yelling from the next room. "-maru, let's go see what's going on in there." She said, Rin agreeing as they stood up and walked into the living room.

"MIROKU I HAVE EVERY RIGHT TO TALK TO THAT GUY AS YOU WOULD TO TALK TO ANY OTHER GIRL!!!" yelled Sango, her face flustered.

"SANGO HE WAS HITTING ON YOU!" Kagome was a little taken aback, she had never seen Miroku yell like that before.

"HE IS MY ART TEACHER! GET A GRIP!!"

"I DON'T CARE WHO HE IS SANGO! WHAT HAPPENED TO LOYALTY?"

"LOYALTY?!? LOYALTY?!?"

"YES SANGO! LOYALTY! DO YOU WAN'T ME TO SPELL IT FOR YOU??"

"DON'T YOU TALK TO ME ABOUT LOYALTY MIROKU WHEN YOU HIT ON EVERY GIRL THAT COMES WITHIN A 50 FOOT RADIUS OF YOU!"

"SANGO WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THIS…."

"SO WHAT? AM I SUPPOSED TO JUST SIT AROUND UNTIL YOU GET OVER BEING HORNY? NO I WONT DO IT MIROKU!"

"I'M NOT ASKING YOU TO SIT AROUND AND WAIT I AM JUST ASKING FOR YOU TO STOP TALKING TO OTHER MALES!"

"He is going down in flames… down in flames…." Muttered Rin to Kagome.

"SO WHAT NOW MIROKU? AM I NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE A LIFE OUTSIDE OF YOU? I AM ONLY 22 YEARS OLD! I AM NOT READY TO SIT DOWN AND TOSS MY WHOLE LIFE ASIDE JUST BECAUSE YOU ARE GETTING JEALOUS OF MY FUCKING ART TEACHER!!!"

"NOT JEALOUS! CONCERNED SANGO CONCERNED!!"

"WELL YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE CONCERNED ANYMORE BECAUSE WE ARE THROUGH!" Sango screamed with an eery tone of finality in her voice. She stomped past him.

"I'm staying at your place Rin." she said as she passed through Kagome, Rin, and the new coming Inuyasha and Sesshomaru, and slammed Rin's door shut. Miroku slammed his fist against the wall causing a picture to fall, shattering the glass case, before he walked into the elevator. Although he looked angry, Kagome could've sworn she saw tears starting to flow right before the elevator lowered out of view…
