Author's Note:Hello I'm back. Yay today is a snowday.(Kinda, but we still got out of school early) It's so cold and my fingers are numb right now. Owie. I am still doomed to working in an ice cream shop. stupid Mr. Braums!But there's still better things to be around, like doing some writing. ........I'll shut up now.

 

 

~Recovery~

That morning there was to be a grand meeting of youkai that wanted to meet the two new powerful Inu-youkai that had come to their land. Sesshoumaru had made sure that everything had come together accordingly and Jaken was the messenger of the day.

Already the guests were arriving. Jessica and Kate got up early that morning to dress. Jessica came out of her room wearing a light blue kimono with various underkimono ranging in pinks and purple of a pastel hue. Her obi was a pastel green with bright pink vines and flowers sewn into it. Her pink and silver hair was pulled up into a bun, so it again had the peppermint effect.

Kate was waiting for her wearing a lilac kimono that complimented her royal purple eyes and lavender colored hair. Her obi was of a soft, skyblue and had birds gliding on it in thread of silver color.

Sesshoumaru came soon after to make his appearance with them. The man of the house had to represent himself wth great authority in front of other Lords and ladies of lower stature. As soon as they had stepped in the light their influence on the others were soon realized.

Because of the way they looked, many had turned to talk to those beside them. Something that was very distastful to Sesshoumaru.

"What strange shaped eyes they have!"

"I've never before seen a woman as tall as, I, a man!"

"I didn't know there were foreign youkai. Must be an invasion on our land."

This troubled the trio as they headed to their seats at the end of the table. Sesshoumaru sent a cold glare around the table to silence them. It took only a matter of seconds for the properly raised to hold their tongue. Others, though, weren't as respectful.

Sesshoumaru motioned for them to feast. A few families at a time came to greet Kate and Jessica. Many that had older sons had made sure that the girls knew they were single.

The only issue was that they weren't interested in marriage.

The meal continued till noon then the games were to start. many of the men had brought their katanas and were ready to fight. Women sat at the side watching them spar. Kate and Jessica retreated to the gardens where they THOUGHT that they wouldn't be disturbed.

They were wrong.

"Get the hell away from us and leave us the hell alone!"

"When can we ever get any time to ourselves-hey you behind the bush leave now or you'll never be able to have children!"

Many of the women who were bored watched them scatter the young men that were attempting to ask them to marry them.(They were only trying to see who could get them first. they decided on a scandalous bet on who could woo them!) They thought it was only right because it gave the men something else to worry about: staying away from foreigners!

Kate and Jessica chatted easily with the other girls that were their age and got along with all the women. They came to appear as no threat to the marraiges of the others.

"Oh! Yes I agree. men must be another species," Jessica replied.

"Pfft. My husband thought he could beat me in a fight not to long ago. He's still sore,"Said a phoenix youkai.

"He's the one that opted out of fighting earlier. No wonder. women are much stronger than men think," Kate laughed.

"But you two scattered them like they were vermin! I didn't realize that you two could be that strong."

"It's not my strength. It's my attitude. I have a rather horrible disposition when it comes to men," Jessica told her.

"Something happened not to long ago that upset her gre-"

Kate was silenced with a blow to the stomach. Glares were also sent her way. One from Jessica and one from Sesshoumaru as he passed. Girls were following him no matter how many times he had tried to take a more discreet route. Somehow they always found him. Why are youkai females so sensitive to a man scent! At this rate I wish they were humans. The two seem to be faring very well even though so many new youkai are around them. I wish I could just be left in peace. It's hell to be a bachelor.

"Aw geez! That was some two days of hell we went through!"

"Yeah and you got so caught up you almost told them Sesshoumaru punished me for nothing and I ran away!"

"Aha! I knew he did something to you!"

"Oh leave him alone!"

"Can you of nothing else but of finding some way to demean my stature?"

Sesshoumaru had opened the door to Jessica's room and was standing in the doorway. He stiffened up slightly as a cold wind came rushing through her room. She sat up quickly and put the cover over it.

"Recently it started to snow. I ask you to watch Rin and get her inside before she gets cold and sick."

He handed her a blanket to put around Rin when she would be brought in from the cold. She nodded and went out with Kate to take care of her. I was only a short while before Rin was cold and wanted to go into the hotsprings to soak in the hot water. They accompanied her there and made sure she washed herself completely.

 

When they got back it was time for dinner to be served. Most stayed in their rooms because of the day before. Sesshoumaru, Rin, Kate and Jessica had dinner in a small but comfortable dining room connected to his study for private dinners. Sesshoumaru only felt like feasting with those he knew in that room. Rather than going out to practice, he stayed in all day and signed papers and letters that were to go to other lords in surrounding lands. And for good reason.

A few of the girls that had been to the dinner came back the day after to attempt to capture his heart. He even had a powerful barrier around hs room and his room alone.

"Ugh. I never want to go through that again! I forgot how hectic it becomes when you have so many youkai in one place alone," Kate said aloud.

"As do I."

For once Sesshoumaru had agreed with Kate. Jessica looked at him with shock. Rin went on eating. Already she was tired, but it was probably the cold that was making her tired. Snow raged on outside. It covered the gardens and the servants's quarters, making it difficult for them to come and go as they pleased.

Sesshoumaru was generous enough to allow many of the people to go back home and enjoy a warm house with friends and family. The dinner was quiet except for the few comments on the large dinner party. Everyone was too tired to argue about each other.

"Achoo!"

"Rin, I told you not go out there and play in the snow," Jaken chided Rin.

Kate came to her doorwy and look down at the child. Rin was about to wipe her runny nose with her hand when Kate took out a hankerchief and wiped it for her.

"Rin, stay in bed today and rest. I'll see to it that soup is brought up to you soon."

Jaken looked at the lavender haired Inu-youkai incredulously. He reasoned that it was just because she was female that she was taking care of the situation. Females do seem to have the best maternal instincts. No wonder they can take such good care of a child.

Kate stayed with Rin that day and kept her company while Sesshoumaru had taken Jessica to get her fang pulled and wrought into a sword. It would take 2 days for her fang to grow back......painfully.

Kate had to wait until her friend's sword was done to get hers. She noticed that Jessica was once again starting to spend more time with Sesshoumaru. She had done this before she had run away. Kyo had left to train other youkai in another province, so she had no one to hang with. She had taken it upon herself to take care of Rin while Jessica and Sesshoumaru was away.

She started to feel like her friend was being taken away from her. It was like this ever since they got here and stayed with Sesshoumaru. How can I compete with a pretty boy like him. Jessi's gone gaga over him. Oh well. She never really liked a guy before. She hated them. But how can she like Sesshoumaru so much? I'll never figure her out.

 

 

 

 

 

Author's Notes:Sorry it took so ong to get this up. I may not have band practice but I have job, so I don't get time to myself anymore. Let me tell you one thing IT SUCKS! Usually I'm happier but work seems to suck the happiness out of me.
