~Family Talk~
Jessica was sitting on top the huge skeleton that had Totosai ingulfed in darkness as he forged her own fang into a slender blade. The only light that was held within was that of Totoai's breath fire as he heated up the sword so her could use his hammer to make it thinner. Jessica had her hair put up in a high ponytail so that it wouldn't get into her eyes. She was still thinking about the so-called guardian that had protected her and given her the clothing that her own mother had worn once when she was as young as her. Why does she feel that I need to be protected so much? I know I needed clothing right then but how did she know I was going to need them? I......oh my God. She was watching me!
At thi thought she was turning red with embarrassment. The swordsmith came out and found her looking at the sky, spaced out.
"Young inu-youkai, what are you staring at so intently?"
"None of your business, Old geezer."
When he spoke it had snapped her out of focus on her thoughts.
What a foul-tempered girl she is. I know I had forged the sword for her but will it allow her to wield it? Perhaps she is vexed by something.
"You look different somehow, I just can't put my finger on it."
"Wow, you're so smart," she replied sarcastically.
"I know! you cut your hair!"
"You're such an idiot..."
"Then it must be something else. Are you bi-polar?"
If a glare could kill, the one that she was giving Totosai would've killed him on contact. She was severely tempted to kill him by slashing his throat.
"Why are you out here anyway? Shouldn't you be working on the sword?"
"It took a while but it's finished. Now it's time to see whether it will allow you to wield it."
"Shouldn't it allow me to wield it anyway? It's made from my tooth."
"Yes, it should but often when a sword is made from tooth from a youkai of noble blood, it often has a mind of its own. Tetsusaiga and the Tenseiga are this way."
"I don't understand."
"Sesshoumaru insulted the Tenseiga many times. Even so, it prevented Sesshoumaru from dying from the Windscar, an attack from its brother sword. I have a feeling that it had told Sesshoumaru to revive the human child that he keeps with him."
"Oh. now it's a little clear."
"Your sword has somewhat of a personality as well."
"You can talk to swords?"
"Yes. But I will not know the effect of your sword until you try it out."
"Fine, I'll come down and take a look at it."
She drifted down and followed Totosai into into his home. On top of the flat surface that he ammered swords laid a sheathed blade that seemed to absorb what light there was and shone in the darkness. Totosai handed it to her and she unsheathed it. The blade was of clear stone though she could not tell what kind it was and the hilt was wrapped in soft leather. The light footed tap of Sesshoumaru's boots were heard coming near. Jessica quickly slipped the Blade back into its sheath and slipped it under her belt.
Sesshoumaru noticed her new clothing and a strange scent much like his own eminating from it. Jessica was oddly tense and careful around him.
"I see Totosai has fnished making your blade. We will take our leave now."
Jessica gave a small bow as thanks to Totosai and followed Sesshoumaru out of the cave.
"Sesshoumaru."
"What is it you ask?"
"Do you know who your mother is?"
"I will not oblige in answering that."
"Then I take it that you don't know who your own mother is."
"I was raised by my father. Why do you ask?"
"Well...in the last few hours I met a female Inu-youkai that remarkably smelled and resembled you in ways. She protected me from Naraku and provided me with this clothing that I believe were my mother's garments."
"Then it's possible that t could be my mother that you met. my father had once told me that my mother had connections to foreign Inu-youkai that were as powerful as my family line."
"By any chance do you have a collection of foreign scrolls in your private library?"
"I believe so. I take it that your friend has found a few of them."
"Yes of course."
"I will allow you to see then."
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
It only took Kate a brief while to find her after she arrived.
"I was so worried you little dipshit. I didn't think you would survive out there."
"That's a fine thing to say to your close friend," Jessica replied sarcastically.
"Ooh, is tat your sword?"
"Uh...Yeah, I-"
Kate grabbed it and tried to pull it out. The sword reacted by growing spikes out of the sheath and piercing Kate's hands.
"Ow! Stupid sword!"
"I guess my weapon does have a mind of its own," Jessica told her as she picked it up and pulled it out of its sheath.
Kate saw that it was clear all the way through like a pure diamond. Totosai even took it upon himself to use pink colored leather on the hilt. The clear crystal on the hilt was a clear green color. Kate pouted and went towards the library.
"Hey Kate where are those foreign scrolls you found that had my mother on it?"
"Oh yeah.I never showed you those. Well come on I'll find them for you."
Kate led the way to Sesshoumaru's private library. in a secluded corner there were several old texts that definitly were not from the country. Kate picked one out and showed it to her friend.
"Mom..."
"Yeah, That is your mom, but judging by the date she was at the same age as you at the time she visited the country."
The scroll contained a picture and her full name underneath it. It also gave a history of her birth. Apparently she was birthed in Japan but was not of Japanese descent. She quickly looked it over. Her mother looked just like her but with shorter hair and striking green eyes. Before Jessica realized it she was tearing up.
"Jessi, if it makes you that upset, maybe you shouldn't look at it."
"No I'm fine. It's just that it happened so long ago. I really miss her. I miss Dad too."
"So do I. For us it only seemed like it lasted about 12 years, but really we've spanned from 500 years no, 600 to 200 from the date of our family's demise."
"It seems so long ago."
"Look, there's one of my dad!"
Jessica held down laughs as she looked at a picture of Kate's dad when he was still very young ad weedy. Kate only managed to keep snorts down.
"To think that would be your strong and mighty father who was actually very muscled when he was older!"
"Oh I know! He looks like he can't even beat a fly."
"Rumor has it that he was a very skilled swordsman even at that age."
Jessica and kate turned around to find Sesshoumaru staring down at the painted scrolls with them. He picked up the one of Jessica's mother and carefully looked it over.
"You resemble her greatly....I remember my father telling me of a meeting of many Inu-taiyoukai at this palace."
"Hmphf. I still remember him picking us up by the scruffs of our neck when he found us peeking during the meeting," Kate mused.
"Oh look! There's one with the whole families gathered on it!"
Jessica was holding a scroll that had many inu-taiyoukai gathered on it. Kate's and Jessica's mothers were gathered in the middle with another young inu-youkai that resembled Sesshoumaru, only as a female and his father as well as their's were gathered in the back with many other youkai. Jessica recognized the woman right off.
"Look, that's her! That's the woman who gave me these clothes. Ya'know, I think that's your mother Sesshoumaru, it has to be. Her and my mom look like they're best buds."
"I think so too."
"I will take my leave now."
Jessica watched as he left. She couldn't help but feel she did something wrong. That night they gone to the bathing rooms. After a while Jessica got bored with talking, so did Kate. When they heard the men come into their side of the bath the girls smiled. Ready? said Kate through telepathy. Jessica used her telekinesis to once again take the fruit bowls and levitate them to the other side of the baths into the mens side. Once they heard the yells and cries they ducked down into the misty water. Some of the men peeked over into their side but couldn't see them at all. When it quieted down the girls left quickly and silently while the men were being loud.
After they got into their rooms they burst out laughing.
After a whle there was a soft knock at Jessica's door. When she opened it she found Sesshoumaru standing there.
"You two were the ones that caused the commtion in the men's bathing area, weren't you?"
"Uh..."
"Very well. You should watch when you do that, you're lucky I was out of range of that attack of bowled fruits. Also, they are starting to suspect that you two are the culprits."
"Sorry."
Sesshouamru turned around to leave for his quarters that were connected to Rin's room.
"Uh Sesshoumaru? may I accompany you to your room? I wish to speak to you about something."
"You may do as you will."
She silently followed behind him. She knew that something was bothering him alot today. After he shut the sliding door behind her he sat at his desk and began to sign documents that were due to be sent out the following morning by candlelight. She shifted on the uncomfortable pillow. She knew the customs of Japan, and hated the fact that she had to sit on her legs.
"I noticed that when I pointed that woman ot that you got upset."
"Upset?"
"Look, I know you well enough when you're upset or not."
After what she said she realized what she just said and cringed waiting for punishment. instead, Sesshoumaru sighed and got up to look out the window.
"I've wondered who my mother was and once as a young pup I begged for her to reveal herself . However she did not."
"So you never knew your mother?"
"............she stayed absent from my life so I assumed I did not have a mother at all."
"Oh. How sad. I lost my mother in battle but you never felt a mother's love at all. I'm sorry."
"There is no need for you to apologize."
"I have a feeling she still watches over you though."
Sesshoumaru turned around in surprise as to what she said at that moment. Her eyes said that she was honest about it, too.
"She still loves you and I think she took care of me because my mother was her friend and that you watch over me as well. I never told you but, Naraku was trying to get me again. He chanced upon me while I decided to relax in a hotspring. Then this wolf youkai named Koga came and sniffed him out. During the fight Naraku's miasma dissolved my clothing and later after I got away she gave me some clothing so I wouldn't have to go to Totosai's stark naked."
"So Naraku had attempted to seize you yet again."
"Yes, well...I'm a little worn out from the past few days and I need to get backon track with my friend, so good night and sleep well, Lord Sesshoumaru."
"I wish you nice dreams as well."
Jessica smiled slightly and left him to stare out the window. Sesshoumaru would wonder for many hours if his mother was really alive and wandering outside the castle walls and watching over him and the others.
AUTHOR'S NOTE:I'm so sorry it took so long but I hope you like it. It may not have as much action and name calling as all the other ones but I had to dredge up memories and made a background a little clearer.
