InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The little question ❯ The little question ( Chapter 1 )
Author's notes: Ok, I got released from class early today, and when I came back to my room, I felt like writing a little continuation for the story I posted two days ago. It's a bit nonsense and pretty weird, but a bit cute and waffy at the same time I don't own Miroku nor Sango, nor Kohaku, they all belong to the highly respected Takahashi-sensei So enjoy! And please read and review
Miroku rounded the hut once, making sure everything was in order. He was a bit cold, but he didn't mind much. He knew that once he walked in, the warmth of family would receive him. Even thought it was late, and his children would be asleep already, he always got a nice feeling all around him when he looked at them, and pulled the covers closer to their bodies to keep them warm.
He sighed in contentment. Everything had been peaceful since they had defeated Naraku, and their only battles were those with the casual youkai that showed up once in a while.
Sango joined him outside, and they sat on the porch, looking out into the forest. She leaned against him, and placed her head on his shoulder. He passed an arm around her.
"Are they all sleeping?" he asked.
"Sound asleep," she answered. "It took a while, mind you."
"I don't know how we're gonna survive with more. . ."
"Hey, don't talk about more until Hiro is at least one year old! Otherwise I'll go crazy."
"Why, don't you like our children?"
Sango pinched his nose.
"Of course I like our children! I love our children! Especially since they are ours."
"Ran included?"
"Do you still worry about that?" Sango asked, faking sadness. "You know very well that I love Ran as if she were my own! She's one of our children ."
"I am always glad to hear that."
"Yeah, you ask me almost every day. . ."
"Hmm, true."
"You know I don't discriminate between any of them. I love them all. And I will love all those to come."
"So will I."
Miroku lowered his head, and placed a kiss on Sango's lips, but before the kiss could be deepened, they were interrupted by Ran crawling on Sango's lap.
"Ran-chan?" Sango asked. "What's wrong?"
Immediately she heard what was wrong.
"Hiro?" she asked.
"Hai," Ran nodded.
"I'll go check."
She handed Ran to Miroku and walked into the hut. The baby was crying, and a boy and a girl were looking at him.
"Alright, alright," Sango said, "what's going on here? And why is Hiro all wet?"
"I didn't mean to wake him!" the girl said, and a tear fell from her right eye.
"Don't cry," Sango said gently, "tell me what happened?"
"I wanted to reach for water. . . but I didn't hold the cup properly. . . and it slipped. . ."
Sango held the baby against her chest.
"Well, be careful next time, will you?"
"I'm sorry. . ."
"It's okay, honey. Go back to sleep."
"Can you tuck us in?"
"Yes, Reika, I will. Just let me change Hiro and I'll do it."
The little boy smiled and rubbed his left eye.
Sango took some dry clothes from a box and changed Hiro, who had now stopped crying. She nursed him for a while, and then laid him back down, he was already sleeping.
"Now, you two," she whispered and crawled closer to them, "ready to go to bed again?"
"Yes!" Reika said, whispering too.
"Mommy," the little boy stretched his arms at her, and Sango held him.
"Now, Sei, be a good boy and go to sleep," she kissed his forehead and put him down on his futon. Then, looked over to Reika, who was already lying down. "Ready to sleep?" she asked her putting the blanket around her, and kissing her forehead as well.
"Hai," she answered. "Mommy? Where is uncle Kohaku?"
"He went hunting, he'll be back tomorrow morning."
"I want to see him. . ."
"So do I. Now go to sleep."
Sango stood up and walked out. But she didn't go all the way to where she had been before, and stayed by the door, taking in the scene in front of her.
Miroku still sat on the porch, with Ran in his arms, her back leaning against his chest. He held her protectively, and they were talking. Sango couldn't believe her ears.
"I heard you two talking. . . what was that about?" Ran asked.
"What do you mean?"
"Mommy said she loved me as if I were hers. . . am I not?"
"Of course you are!"
"But then, why did she say that?"
"Maybe you're too young to understand, I don't know how to put this simply."
"I will understand!" Ran's plea touched Sango's heart. "I promise I will understand! Please, tell me! Tell me the easy part!"
"Ran-chan," he sighed, "it's not important. It all comes down to one thing, your mother is more your mother than the woman who gave birth to you."
"What does that mean?"
"You see? It's complicated."
"Daddy! I want to know!"
He sighed again, then held her against his body.
"Promise me you won't get angry?"
"I promise!"
"Really really?"
"Really really."
"Alright then. . . You know, a long time ago, when Sango and I weren't married yet, I knew this girl. . ."
"Which girl?"
"The girl who gave birth to you."
"So it wasn't mommy?"
"Shhh, let me finish."
Ran nodded.
"The thing is, that girl gave birth to you, but she went to sleep, and didn't wake up again. So it was only me left to care for you. But back then we were still in the middle of the battle with Naraku, remember all those stories Inuyasha tells you?"
"I do!"
"So, as you might remember, it was very dangerous, so Kagome-sama's mother took care of you while I was fighting."
"Is she my mother?"
"Ran. . ."
"I know! I'll be quiet, I promise."
"Ok. So once I was wounded very badly in battle, and I thought I was going to sleep forever. I wanted to see you, so Kagome-sama went to get you. But then, Naraku appeared, you know that story no?"
"Yeah! You defeated him!"
"Yes. But that same day, Naraku tried to hurt you."
"Me?"
"Yes, because he knew you were important to me. So he attacked the hut were you were, and I thought he had. . ." the memory still hurt, ". . . killed you. But then, Sango appeared, all hurt and tired, but you were there, with her. She saved your life and protected you when I couldn't. I was so thankful with her. . . you have no idea."
"But then. . . she isn't my mother. . ." Ran was about to cry.
"No crying, Ran-chan, here comes the nice part. Sango said she wanted to be your mother, and I wanted her to be your mother, too, plus we love each other, so we got married. She is more your mother than the girl who gave birth to you, because she risked it all for you. She almost died, to save you. And tell me, would you rather have another mommy?"
"Of course not!"
"You see? She loves you the same she loves Reika, Sei and Hiro, because you are her daughter. You are our children."
"But she. . ."
Sango decided to approach at last, and sat down beside Miroku, looking at Ran.
"I am your mother," Sango said tenderly, "I did not carry you inside my belly like I did with the rest, but I always carry you in my heart, and that's a lot more important. Look at Shippou-chan, Kagome-chan is like his mother, but she did not give birth to him. Parent is the one who loves you and cares for you everyday. The one that thinks of you all the time, and makes sure you're safe. So please, don't doubt for any moment that I am not your mother."
"So you don't love the others more. . ."
"No, why should I?"
"I don't know. . ."
"Don't break your head with this, Ran-chan. I love you, and that's what matters."
"I love you, too, mommy," Ran said hugging Sango, who held her back dearly.
"Do you want to go back to bed?" Sango asked.
"Yes!"
"Let's go then ."
Just as she had done with her own children, Sango placed Ran on her futon and covered her, then kissed her forehead.
"You know I love you, so don't worry about anything else ."
Ran smiled and closed her eyes. Sango stayed there until she made sure Ran was asleep, then walked out of the hut, to where Miroku was still sitting.
"I dreaded the moment she would ask," he told her. "I hope she didn't take it so bad."
"I don't think she did, I don't think she understood everything, but she doesn't feel bad."
"That's good."
Sango laughed a bit, and leaned into his embrace again.
"What is it now?" he asked.
"You worry too much, you know?"
"I do?"
"Yeah, you do! She's not gonna hate you for what happened, she won't hate me either. We're honest with her, and now she knows it. Besides, we treat them all alike, so there's no way she would see it's not going well."
He nodded. He held Sango closer to him, and lowered his lips again, after making sure there was no one at the door to interrupt them this time. She moved to his lap and kissed him back, passionately. Then, breathless, hugged him tightly.
"Thank you," he said.
"For what?" she asked.
"For helping me out when she asked, I didn't know what else to say."
"Daddy's short for words?"
"Well, I guess that's what mommy is there for."
"Might be."
They kissed again, and didn't stop until they heard two girls giggling from inside the hut.
"I guess Ran and Reika are out of bed. . ." Miroku said.
"Shall we go in then?"
"Why not? I'm kind of tired."
"Are you?"
"Alright, maybe not THAT tired. . . I could stay awake for a. . . *cough*. . . while."
Sango rolled her eyes mockingly, then grabbed his hand and pulled him inside, where they found their two daughters pretending to be asleep, with mischievous smiles on their cute faces.
