InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Long Way Home ❯ Chapter 3
A/N: Sorry this is so short but some update is better than no update, right?
Heh. Uh…right? (Crickets chirping.)
Thank you for the lovely reviews!
Annnnd again-I don't own Inuyasha.

Kagome lugged her backpack across the shrine courtyard, more dragging it than carrying it, berating herself the whole way. For three weeks she'd held her tongue, the longest she'd ever gone without sitting Inuyasha, all to keep him away from the well. So much for my record, she thought.
The problem now was, given the way she'd left him and their history, Kagome might as well of handed him a hand written invitation to jump down the well and discover her secret. Hoping she could make it back through the well before Inuyasha, Kagome had restocked faster than she thought humanly possible to turn around and run right back out the door.
More than the fear that her secret would get out was that she'd not said goodbye; they deserved better than that. Especially Inuyasha. Her last word to him had been the one he hated most. It would destroy her if she couldn't at least make the effort to tell him how she felt…and time was running out.
The reminder of her time, and how little she had before her hanyou came storming through had her hefting her load to her shoulders to run the final few meters to the well house. So absorbed was she with her haste, she forgot to make sure the bottom of the well was unoccupied before jumping in.

Inuyasha knew.
The minute he had been engulfed by the well's blue light, he knew. He understood Kagome's tears, her spoiling of Shippo, her resistance to smacking Miroku across the face for his ever-wandering hand, the long, girly talks with Sango.
Inuyasha knew why she wouldn't fight with him, wouldn't sit him and gave him those falsely bright smiles, pretending everything was fine.
As the well finally solidified around him, signaling his arrival in Kagome's time, he dropped to one knee, weak from the realization, barely able to comprehend what it meant. So stricken was he that the sound of feet thumping down the well house stairs registered only after he looked up to see Kagome jumping down.
