“I could end it! We could! We could just end it and let him die here and just go!” Jigo grabbed a hold of Sesshoumaru’s hair jerking his head up he brought the sword down.
Dark blood ran down Shido’s arm, the blade had cut him deeply; at the last moment, he had prevented Jigo from injuring Sesshoumaru by thrusting his arm in the way. Jigo’s face twisted with horror pulling the sword away from Shido. “Shido I didn’t want to… mean to...you…I-”
“You idiot!” Shido backhanded Jigo into the nearby tree; Sesshoumaru’s and Shido’s blood smearing on his face. “Know these scents and be obedient! What would be the point in killing Sesshoumaru? We would still be enslaved to his family, even if you had killed him.” Shido’s face softened reaching out for Jigo and helping him up he slowly wiped the blood from his face.
“Our families, for the past thousand years or so have been bound to the blood of the great dog demon. Lord Inutaisho died, we ran and then we hid. Hiding from our duty, we ran away from the manor, Sesshoumaru, and that hanyou whelp, because we wanted our freedom, but no matter how much we want something, it sometimes does not come true. We are still regardless of the years passed, bound to them. Lord Inutaisho’s Great-great-grandfather enslaved our ancestors after they had lost to him in battle. Inutaisho’s ancestor set the terms of our servitude so we could never rise against his descendents. For one thing, we cannot remove the crest of his house; it should have been branded on the both of us at birth. We were spared and made to wear it on our kimonos, but resulting in that we cannot take off these kimonos unless we are in the manor. Only the current head of the bloodline can release us, and we can serve no other until this is done so.”
He pulled Jigo tightly to him, bringing his face up to look at his own, “Jigo you were still very young when we left the manor…I should never have taken you with me. It’s time to stop running; I’m going to serve Sesshoumaru. I don’t like to run and hide. I’m not weak, besides I miss the different colors of kimono, and I’d like to get some new armor.” Shido grinned at Jigo, and pulled his orangey hair out of his face. Jigo slowly nodded, brushing dirt from his white and blue robe, he claws snagging on the tattered cloth.
“I suppose it would be nice to get a different kimono, if only you didn’t keep getting this one dirty Shido.” Jigo snickered pulling Sesshoumaru onto his back. The tension left the air as both of their auras relaxed; rain began to drizzle and slowly began to pour.
“Yes it would make certain activities a bit easier for us.” Shido smirked and slapped Jigo’s backside playfully; Sesshoumaru slid farther in the creek his body beginning to move with the current. Both vassals jumped apart and grabbed him by his belt pulling him out of the water. “Huh…he doesn’t have his father’s fang, just this katana ugh...” Shido pulled his hand away from Sesshoumaru’s belt, “The aura it’s sickening. I do wonder about his Father’s fang, but for now, we need to take him to the den. Jin can care for his wounds there, and maybe do something about that arm. Let us go.”

‘My body…is, am I in the underworld? It’s cold…my body it’s…I can’t feel. What is that?’’ Sesshoumaru furrowed his brow sweat trickled down his forehead, it smelled like a demon. He watched as Kagome turned towards him smiling, flowers in her arms she didn’t notice the creature behind her. ‘Kagome? Kagome…get away! Kagome! The demon.’ A dark hand reached out and grabbed hold of Kagome squishing her between his claws, he pressed his thumb to her throat cutting off her breathing, she squirmed and struggled to breathe, the creature laughed. “Kukukuku. Ha! Sesshoumaru-sama you can’t save this woman.” ‘Kagome! No! Get away from–Rin?’ Sesshoumaru watched helplessly as Rin waved, a flower in hand, she ran to him her back to the creature. ‘Rin stop where you are don’t come any closer.’ The other hand of the creature reached out for the young human child. ‘Rin…no I was going to…’ The creature picked up the screaming Rin, crushing her in his grasp. “You’ll save who? Your woman? This girl?” Their horrific screams rang in his head, he couldn’t move, chains wrapped around, and around him tighter and tighter with every gasping breath. Something was wrong. Tighter and tighter making him black in and out of conscious thought, ‘Why aren’t they screaming? Why did they stop screaming? I can’t hear anything; it’s deafening, nothing, Kagome...Rin.’ The demon threw Rin’s corpse to the ground and gently set Kagome on her feet. “I think she has something to tell you Sesshoumaru.” Kagome raised her eyes, they glistened dark and unknowing, “YOU’RE JUST LIKE INUYASHA!” She shrieked at him her voice painfully echoing throughout his head. The demon laughed again, “I told you she had something to tell you, she’ll break you just like the DOG YOU ARE!” Sesshoumaru looked up, in the distance, in the shadows he saw…someone, “Sesshoumaru, do you have someone to protect?” His father’s voice echoed in the air, Sesshoumaru pulled at the chains struggling to get to Kagome. The creature took hold Kagome again up slowly squeezing the breath out of her. “SESSHOUMARU!”
A cool cloth replaced the damp and warm one; a fire crackled and glowed, its embers chasing away the cold darkness of the night, but not the nightmares within. Voices echoed and whispered above his head. Sesshoumaru caught snatches of the conversation it was hard to hear over the demon’s laughter and Kagome’s screams. He caught a few words, ‘Nightmare…fever...better if he…’ Kagome’s shrieks of terror interrupted his already incoherent thoughts, filling his mind with her voice, touch, and scent. Memories, twisted and distorted, washing over him in a putrid sludge, filling his mind with an unusual emotion: fear.
Jigo glanced over to the fur pallet; Sesshoumaru was still asleep covered in sweat and blood from his wounds, he just wouldn’t stop bleeding. Jigo cracked his knuckles frowning; Lord Sesshoumaru kept calling out someone’s name…someone named Kagome. He had not come out of his stupor for several days; the coldness of the river and continuous loss of blood had riddled his body with fever. J
igo looked on with disgust as Jin replaced the wet cloth again. He studied Jin for a moment; he had forgotten how adorable and childlike he appeared. His hair hued in shades of crimson was cropped to his shoulders, slender shoulders, a grey taijiya mask over his mouth, but other then the mask, strangely no armor, weapons or jewelry of any kind adorned his body. He looked to be the embodiment of a twelve-year-old boy, not a whelp of a dog-demon. He was one whelp that Jigo wanted to strike down right now.
“Jin! Do something besides put water on him!” Jigo pushed over the inu-youkai child, nudging him hard in the ribs with his boot. “He keeps bleeding and having nightmares, that poison isn’t letting the wound close, we can’t let him die.” Jin held his mask in place tears filling in the corner of his eyes; he tied the ties of his mask and bowed to Jigo.
“Yes Jigo-sama, but then I would,” He sniffled blinking back tears, offensive things, “but then I need you to come with me to get the herbs I would need. You know I cannot leave alone and Shido went to find and then kill the rest of the wolf pack.” Jigo sighed and nodded helping the young pup from the ground; Jin hugged onto Jigo’s leg laughing. “You know Jigo, I only remember Sesshoumaru-sama when he was very young. He was as tall as I was, and he never really talked except to order me. Lord Inutaisho told me to stay away from him, that I would interfere with Sesshoumaru-sama’s training. It was shortly after he sent me to the training yard with the ranking vassals, that’s how I met you and Shido.” Jin looked up to Jigo his eyes lighting up, “You taught me a lot, and I taught you how to fight more efficiently.” Jigo smirked patting him on the head thoughtfully.
“I remember you kicked my ass, I really thought I was weak or Lord Inutaisho let you feed on some demonic energy source. Well let’s be off,” Jigo grabbed a hold of Jin putting him on his shoulder, “Sesshoumaru-sama will be all right for a couple hours.”
‘Do not leave…the demon is…I cannot focus my thoughts.’ Sesshoumaru groaned in his sleep his wound breaking open again. ‘Inuyasha, the demon of hell, and his father’s voices taunted him. ‘Useless! You cannot save anyone. You will never find the path of conquest. You are destined to be alone.’ A katana materialized in front of him, blood already stained the blade. ‘Now pick it up and end it. PICK IT UP!’ Kagome’s scent wafted from the blood pooled around the blade, images of Kagome slicing her own belly appeared in front of him. ‘No this is not…it can’t-Kagome!’ Sesshoumaru growled, as Kagome limply fell to the ground, he picked up the katana, it whispered for his blood as well.
Sesshoumaru slowly picked up the sword from the wall, his body pouring with sweat, his eyes blurred with his demonic power. ‘Kagome…’ He slashed threw the air vainly trying to attack the phantoms of his mind. ‘YOU’RE JUST LIKE INUYASHA!’
“Sesshoumaru put the sword down kukuku.” The demon picked up Kagome’s corpse by her hair, “You should suffer as she will. Soon Sesshoumaru-sama you will be in the greatest pleasure, then we will you watch you suffer in the greatest pain. Wake up Sesshoumaru…wake up.’
Sesshoumaru’s eyes bolted opened, he panted for breathe; the scent of cooking meat and tea brewing, the moisture of the cool night air filled his nostrils. Where am I?’ The cave walls were adorned with the bones of slain demons, the floor was cool and dry. He glanced around for signs of life, seeing none he looked puzzling at the Tokijin in his hand. Near the fire a bed of soft furs and welcomed sleep called to him. He felt his body sag, the sword falling to the cave floor with a loud clang. ‘Fever…and exhaustion…’ He couldn’t move his body anymore he felt heavy, drugged, he looked down to his wound. Fresh blood stained the front of his kimono, Sesshoumaru fell to the cool cave floor a burst of pain taking him back to the depths of unconsciousness. ‘Kagome…’

Sesshoumaru’s eyes fluttered open at the sound of movement; he was once again by the fire, his skin warmed by the flames, and the soft furs that covered his naked body. He quietly observed his surroundings; his wound had been packed with herbs, it was no longer bleeding and the skin was fairly knitted, his kimono and armor lay beside his makeshift bed, two unknown figures were playing a game of Go about ten feet away. He breathed in their scents, running the familiar smells across his tongue. ‘Demons…I know these scents…’ A pair of golden eyes and a young face abruptly invaded his vision; Jin looked down on the waking Sesshoumaru cooing in delight. He bounced to the other side of the room humming and poured a cup of warm tea. Jin came back and leaned over Sesshoumaru handing him a cup of warmed tea, Sesshoumaru although puzzled took the cup, but did not drink from it.
“Sesshoumaru-sama, my name is Jin that is Jigo over there. You’ve been asleep for at least five days. Your fever finally broke Sir, about a day ago. Welcome back to the land of living my lord.”
Jigo peered over the boy smirking; he grabbed Jin by his collar hoisting him off the ground. “Make Lord Sesshoumaru something to eat he is bound to be hungry.” Jin scampered to the other side of the cave once more, bent on making the best recovery meal for Sesshoumaru-sama. Jigo pulled back the fur blanket looking at Sesshoumaru’s wound; it was closing rather nicely, but still rather slowly.
“Stay put Sir, or your wounds will open back up. I’ll be back in a few hours. I’m going to get some more herbs, and to find Shido. A demon with knowledge of poisons and their cures lives a bit away, some half-demon named Jinenji. I’m leaving Jin here with you, he’ll keep your fever down with the tea’s and what limited knowledge he has. Oh and you should drink the tea it keeps away the nightmares caused by the poison.” Sesshoumaru nodded gulping down the bitter herbal tea; he closed his eyes listening to the sounds of Jigo’s fleeting footsteps. He just needed to sleep he nodded off to Jin’s soothing humming, and …

‘It has been another day….’ Sesshoumaru glanced about the cave Jin wasn’t in sight. A loud crack outside the cave signaled his return, no one entered the cave. Sesshoumaru listened again he knew he had heard footsteps, but they were oddly placed. It was not Jin, the creature was either rather large or wounded, he breathed in the air it was the latter. The nauseating scent of demon blood filled his nostrils. ‘Where is that boy? I’m in no condition to fight off even a wounded demon. A woman?’
A female youkai stumbled into the darkness of the cave; the fire had already died down, the cave itself was pitch black only the entry way was lit by the light of the crescent moon. The she-demon held her side; blood dripping down her leg, the moonlight reflected her pale hair, and even paler skin. Sesshoumaru could barely make out her eyes, they were golden, she was also a dog demon. Something was familiar about her scent, he had know this scent before but he couldn’t put his finger on it.
“Who’s there? Show yourself!” The demoness blindly turned round the cave, clutching her side, the wound was not serious but it was incapacitating. ‘Her scent is alluring. I have to mark her before…another male gets her, God’s this female smells good, wait…no…no I can not be thinking like this.’ He mentally slapped himself, this was not the time to be thinking about females when he was still wounded. “Woman you should not be here. Leave.”
“Speak your name to me! Now or I’ll kill you…you’re wounded. I’ll kill you just like the othe-” The woman paused staring at him, her mouth gapped and stuttered, “Lord…Lord Sesshoumaru?” The woman dropped her weapon kneeling in front of Sesshoumaru. He took another breath his eyes flickering to red. ‘She is in heat…’
“Do not address this Sesshoumaru with such disrespect. My vassals will be along shortly, you should not be here woman. Since you are in heat, other males are no doubt seeking you. Yes, from the stench they are the wolf tribe we have been looking for.”
Glaring at Sesshoumaru she smelled the air and paled, he had not lied, a pack of wolves and three others were heading in their direction. Sesshoumaru nodded lifting his head up. “My vassals are bidding the wolves to the afterlife.” The she-demon turned to leave, running to the entrance. A bright light flashed and the woman flung across the room, smacking the wall with a sickening thud. Sesshoumaru glanced at her annoyed, “Obviously my youngest vassal left a barrier. You can not leave until my vassals remove it.” Sesshoumaru paused surveying her body. “You are a full blooded youkai, an inu-youkai correct?” The female panted trying to catch her breath, her skin steaming from the after effects of the barrier, the barrier had also successfully opened her wound even wider.
“I am, what of it Lord Sesshoumaru? Does your father still seek me?” Wiping the spit and sweat from her mouth, she sat up. The yips and howls of the wolves sounded off in the distance, along with the shrieks of their deaths as Shido and Jigo ripped threw the last of them.
“I need a full-blooded heir. Come with me and provide me a son, I will keep my vassals from injuring you. I offer you further protection, as my wife.”
Jin came into the cave with an armful of herbs and a chain of flowers around his head. He choked seeing the demonic woman inside of his barrier, “Kuso! I put the barrier backwards! I’m such an idiot! Lord Sesshoumaru do you know this demon? Shido-sama! Jigo-sama! There is an intruder in–”Both vassals rushed into the room wolf blood covered their claws they both drew their swords, and blinked.
“Jin you idiot it’s just a wench! What the hell are you freaking us out for you inconsiderate whelp!” Jigo smacked Jin upside the head, sending him flying against the wall; both vassals bowed as Sesshoumaru slowly stood, naked.
“You should not stand my Lord?” Shido lowered his head, and sheathing his sword. The woman glanced at the child who did not bow but stood dumbly watching her. Sesshoumaru reached out and took the mask off Jin it crumbled, as the ties were untied, turning into dust. Jin grinned and bowed kissing the ground near Sesshoumaru. Shido and Jigo exchanged questions glances, what was the female doing here.
“Remove the barrier. Shido, Jigo you are not unaffected by the woman, but as my vassals I expect you to control yourselves.” Sesshoumaru turned back to the she-demon, “I asked you a question woman.” He ignored Jin’s antics and swiftly dressed himself, leaving the armor; it was cracked and therefore useless. Jin sat down in front of the entrance drawing a spell on the ground,
“Forgive me; my name is Yaki my Lord. I am a dog demon, and I see, as are you. You are his son…aren’t you?” Sesshoumaru ignored her and carefully surveyed the problem before him. His vassals were having a hard time concentrating with a heated female in the room; they licked their lips and fangs repeatedly. Jin seemed unaffected the woman’s condition, and calmly finished the spell to remove the barrier, it dissolved leaving scorch marks on the floor, ceiling and walls.
“This woman is no concern of yours. My wounds have healed efficiently for now. Shido and Jigo you are to escort Jin and yourselves to my manor. I expect you to be there before I return.” Sesshoumaru pushed Yaki in front of himself, pulling her kimono away from her left shoulder he bit down on the soft flesh. Yaki growled and dug her claws into her palms, “You didn’t need to mark me.” Sesshoumaru stoically ignored her picking her up from the floor. They both glowed, their human forms disappearing, and reappearing as a large blue orb; it shot out of the cave, and into the grey sky.
“I will await your return; I suggest using your speed. If you do not arrive before my self I will kill you.” The group of vassals gapped and sped after there lord.
Sesshoumaru resumed his human form, he might as well give the vassals a chance they had healed his wounds. He flexed his right arm; they had even cast some spell or another to give him back his arm. Yes, he would continue the rest of the way in his human form. He glanced at this young youkai, a beauty at that. Yaki looked over Sesshoumaru’s arm and saw the huge manor, her old prison; she hid her disgust and smiled at Sesshoumaru.
He ignored her and continued flying, below three figures flew over the gates into the courtyard, the vassals had successful returned before Sesshoumaru. The outer walls were at least twenty feet tall, vines and other demonic plant life hid the only gate. A forest hid the castle from prying eyes, the huge outer gates were made of the carcasses of an ancient race of tree youkai called, Bokusenou, their wooden hides provided a barrier, and could not be burned by a natural fire. The mist that surrounded the walls of the mansion, were of an unnatural fog cold and seething with the promise of death. Any human that walked alone would most assuredly lose their way in the fog. The blanket of fog seemed to acknowledge their master’s return and separated.
