Sango, Miroku, Rin and Kohaku were gathered close, talking when Akemi arrived at camp. Sesshoumaru was looking on with his usual stony expression. Akemi grabbed a fish and plopped down across the fire from the group. Bored he gnawed on the food. He knew just what would happen. Just like every other time, Sango and Rin would go off to the hot springs. Miroku and Kohaku would chat about lecherous things then wander off to spy on the girls. Leaving Akemi alone with his silent and stoic uncle. Sesshoumaru was only any fun when they were training. Any other time he was silent, boring, and to imposing to just strike up a conversation with. Sango helped Rin to her feet and Akemi knew it was going to be a long boring night.
He jumped to his feet. Maybe a good hunt would be less repetitious. He couldn't stand the thought of one more silent night sitting across from his stoic trainer. He glanced at him now bewildered how the man could have someone pinned to a tree on moment and completely calm the next. “Akemi.” Sesshoumaru's voice cut through him causing him to turn. “ Uncle.”
Akemi saw something cross Sesshoumaru's face, but he could not figure what it could be. `What is going on,' thought Akemi, `Sesshoumaru never shows emotion.' The light shifted in the clearing and what he thought he saw was gone. `Of course, it had to be the light.' Akemi was relieved. The man he had known his whole life and respected above any other trainer couldn't just suddenly show emotion. Sesshoumaru wasn't just his instructor. He was his uncle and the closest thing to a friend he has. Akemi is a hanyo, a half-breed. Half human, half demon and rejected by both. His instructors were the only people remotely friendly towards him. Akemi assumed the niceties were part of the job. Akemi had many other teachers before Sesshoumaru. Every one of them showed weakness. Everyone tired and everyone fell. Full demons falling to a hanyo; pitiful. Sesshoumaru was his only decent challenger, and the only one who didn't pretend to like him. Akemi was sure he could win if it were not for his weakened blood. The product of a hanyo and a human.
`Why couldn't father have mated a demon. That would have made things a little easier on me.' Sesshoumaru again snapped him out of his thoughts, “bring back enough for breakfast for seven and clean clothes for the humans. There should be something suitable at our domicile.” With that Akemi jumped into the trees.
Seeing that Akemi had left, Miroku spoke, “When will you tell him?” “It is not your concern, monk,” came Sesshoumaru's icy answer. Sesshoumaru had softened with Rin and Kagome at his side, but Miroku could see that he should not push much further. “Akemi needs to know you're his father.” Miroku said, he had five children of his own and could not imagine them not knowing their father. Sesshoumaru closed his eyes and let silence fall over the camp.
Akemi stalked slowly through the underbrush near camp. A large boar was grazing a few feet away. `More than enough meat for breakfast. The rest can make a lunch,' thought Akemi as he sniffed the air. Making sure he was down wind he waited for the perfect moment to strike. Soundlessly he made his move. Snapping the beasts neck in one quick motion. “Arigato,” he whispered as he watched the light fade from the creature's eyes.
Lifting the beast and tossing it over one shoulder he took it to the river where he could skin and clean it. Akemi could here the activities of the girls, as they bathed not far off. Deftly he severed the head and let it drop next to his feet. “Akemi needs to know you're his father.” Miroku's words reached his delicate ears. With a couple of quick moves the boar was skinned and gutted. `How could this be?' Akemi thought as he washed the blood from his claws. `Sesshoumaru and a human? Sesshoumaru my father, it just not possible.' Akemi's stomach wrenched at the thought. His esteemed stoic teacher having feelings for a human miko. The thought that Sesshoumaru lied didn't set well. `InuYasha is my father, right?' Akemi couldn't believe what he had heard.
