InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Memories of a Geisha ❯ The Lonely Geisha ( Chapter 1 )
'It's useless. All useless.' Thought the raven haired beauty to herself as she stared out at the silvery orb that hung in the sky . 'No matter how hard I try, I guess I'll just have to face the fact that I'll never get out of this wretched home.' She got up from where she sat, and removed the makeup so elegantly applied to her face. 'I take off my makeup, and I'm nothing but a normal woman.' She repeated those words to herself, and slipped into her bed, sleeping lightly.

Chapter One: The Lonely Geisha
Men loved her. Simple as that. She was the most beautiful geisha in Kyoto.
But just as smiple as that: She could never leave her okiyo unless she were to perform.
She was Kagome Higurashi.

Kagome had arrived at the okiya eight years ago. . .after her mother and father had died.
Before then, she had lived in a small fishing village just beside the Sea of Japan. Yoroido.
That day, before the fire she was sent out to get a stick of insense for the shrine. The incense was supposed to be for praying, so they could pray for a prosperous trip of fathers the next day.
She was running home with the two sticks in her hand when she saw it.
Her home.
A small scream echoed throughout the whole fishing village.
About a week later, she was sent off to the okiya, where she worked under Mother, Granny, and Auntie. The first as stubborn as the next.
For example, Mother claimed she was a very clean woman, but she refused to change her sheets, and she would never let anybody else touch them.
Granny never liked being alone, so whenever the little Kagome was around her, she had to stand by her side and swat at a fly Granny claimed she had seen.
And Auntie. . .Well, Auntie wasn't as bad. She was actually rather nice, now that Kagome thought about it. 'Well'…she thought, 'nicer than Mother and Granny. . .'
If you were to walk into the okiya, you would have never guessed that Kagome was alone. The whole house was occupied by maids, apprentice geisha, and geisha alike.
The trouble was, they never talked to Kagome, and Kagome never talked to them.
"Such a beautiful woman, yet such a waste of space!" gossiped two of the geisha in the household, Kanna and Kagura.
"She may be an eyeful, but what is her purpose? Never talks, never eats. . .It's almost as if she's nothing but a doll!" claimed Kanna. Kanna was beautiful. She had naturally white skin and dark black eyes, all under a thick mane of beautiful white hair. Yet, Kanna had her dissadvantages, like the oleander. She was beautiful, but she could bring devastating side effects.
"It really does make you wonder how she got to be so successful," scoffed Kagura. Kagura was a natural beauty as well, she had a velvety smooth cream complexion and dazzling red eyes you wouldn't see on many people. She always had the most beautiful pick of hair ornements, wich usually consisted of feathers and green and blue beads. Kagura was not the one to be messed with, she always left a strange wind behind her.
Kagome, of course, heard them all. She didn't mind. It didn't matter. . .'Are you kidding?! Of course you care!' Say something! Anything! Kagome shook her head, and straightend up. She looked at Kanna and Kagura and said bravely:
"Please do not speak of me as if I were not here. If I were to tell Mother about that, she would be angry, and you know it."
The two looked at her with amazement, their eyes wide and shimmering.
Kagome walked upstairs to await for Sesshoumaru-sama to come help tie her obi for tonights tea ceremony.

"HURRY UP, WORTHLESS HANYOU!" yelled a voice from just outside the door.
'Worthless hanyou today, ignorant whelp yesterday, and tomorrow? Repulsive half brother? Sigh, who knows?' thought InuYasha Sakamoto to himself.
"Hurry, hanyou! Lady Kagome must NOT be kept waiting!"
Kagome. . .Kagome was the woman InuYasha had always admired, but of course from afar. Every now and then, Sesshoumaru would allow him to come along to a tea ceremony or other performance of the geisha, and she would always be there.
Kagome Higurashi.
She would never know his true feelings.
Hell, she would probably never know his name, let alone himself!
No, it was probably best to just admire her from afar anyway. It would never become serious even IF he knew her. Geisha weren't allowed boyfriends.
That's when he sighed.
"InuYasha, since you've been fairly good this month, I will allow you to come with me to the tea ceremony tonight. BUT. . .only tonight. Don't think I will make this a habit!" shouted Sesshoumaru. "Now, come on. Like I said, we can't keep the lady waiting."
So InuYasha and Sesshoumaru boarded a small rickshaw and traveled down to the okiya where Kagome lived.
Once they arrived, Sesshoumaru told InuYasha to wait in the hallway while he spoke with one of the ladys of the house, known to them as Mother.
HA! As if, Sesshoumaru. And InuYasha made his way up the staircase, and opened one of the many doors.
A meek, light, meledious voice asked quietly, "Sesshoumaru-sama?"
InuYasha gulped, "N-No. I-I'm his. . .Uh…Yes. Sorry to keep you waiting, Lady Kagome."
She smiled.
He felt week at the knees.
"Ok then, do you mind helping me into my obi now?"
He shook his head. 'Thank the gods I've watched Sesshoumaru do this so many times….' He thought to himself.
He wove the obi around her body, and then tied a neat bow into the back. Many people thought that this was a very easy task. Those people were obviously misconcived. Tying obis is almost like an art. You weave the whole ribbon almost around the whole body, and the task is possibly HARDER when you find that the obi itself is twice as large as a human man and the width of a woman's shoulder.
Needless to say, InuYasha had many tries before he got it right.
She smiled at him, and finished applying her makeup.
"Are you accompaning me tonight, Mr. Sakamoto?"
InuYasha instantly smiled, "Yes, Lady Kagome, I am." And together they walked downstairs, but no Mother in sight.
'Sesshoumaru must be keeping her…' thought InuYasha.
"Oh! Auntie!" exclaimed Kagome. "Tell Mother I'm gone."
Auntie nodded and smiled, "Come back as soon as your finished, Kagome-san."
Kagome nodded back, and left with InuYasha.
'This will be a night to remember…' thought InuYasha to himself, and together they walked just down the street to the small, yet exquisite, teahouse.
