InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Middle Road ❯ Dreamsong ( Chapter 3 )
I Don't own Inuyasha, the story is mine, though.
Inuyasha crawled slowly throught the tunnel on hands and knees. The passage widened into a large room, a cathedral of rock. He looked around as best as he could in the darkness.
"Where the hell am I?" he muttered under his breath "That old witch said to go till I reached a river." he growled slightly " Why in Kami's name would there be a river under here." He sat down on the dank cave floor and leaned his head back against the wall. His conciousness drifted away.

Kagome was in darkness. She stood, trying to regain her balance, and felt her way through the narrow corridors of this place-where ever this place was. She heard a noise, a light, hardly discernable rythmic motion. She moved toward the sound. The noise grew louder.
"I-Inuyasha?" she called out, hoping the breathing noise was who she thought it was. She was not sure how, but somehow she knew it was the hanyou. She breathed deeply, and cried out again "Inuyasha?!"

Inuyasha woke with start. Had he heard what he thought he heard? He shook the thought away. He must forget her, forget everything she was to him. The dark, mixed with exhaustion, was playing tricks on his mind. He had to forget all the things she had done for him, forget that she cared for him, forget that he cared for her. His mind was going in a million directions at once, inumerable thoughts and feelings surged through him at the same moment: love, hate, anger, sadness, fear- where did that last one come from? He was not afraid, he could not be afraid. His only chance was to endure through the various trials this 'seer' would put him through. He stood up and felt once more along the cave walls, continuing his journey.

"Inuyasha!" Kagome sat up suddenly in her sleep. The drops of sweat rolled down her forehead. Sango ran to her side, and assured her she was not alone while shippou rolled over in the sleeping bag, asleep.
"I-I had a dream." she furrowed her brow, her face pointed in the general direction of her surrogate sister "At least I think it was a dream. I felt so real, and Inuyasha was there."
"It's all right, Kagome-chan. We'll find him soon enough." Kagome nodded and laid back down and fell to sleep. Sango inhaled sharply the fresh scent of the forest around her, and sat down in front of the fire. The monk, seated across form her, spoke, his stoic face betraying no emotion
"Are you okay, Sango-sama?" she was startled by his sudden vocalization. I wish he'd stop doing that. "I'm fine, Houshi-sama, just worried about Kagome-chan."
"As are we all." she looked up to see him staring at her, she blushed crimson a moment before she directed her face toward the fire.
"But," he had a knowing tone in his voice, "you seem much more affected by Kagome-sama's affliction, even more than Shippou."
"I know, it's just, why would Inuyasha do that? He must have known Kagome-chan was going to give him the jewel, he did defeat Naraku single handedly."
"We all defeated Naraku. Inuyasha has more right to the jewel than anyone, but why couldn't he have just asked first?"
"I don't know," Sango said in a slow, quiet voice "I don't know."
If you want me to write any more, review. I don't care how you review, flame me, praise me, whatever. But I don't see any point in writing/finishing a story no one reads.
