InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Middle Road ❯ Soothsayer ( Chapter 6 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
Inuyasha doesn't belong to me. My lawyer says we could work out a deal for Kagome.

Inuyasha walked slowly through the dense trees that bordered a clearing. The unusual structure could no longer be seen. He looked up at the dense, green crowns of foliage above him. A bird chirped in the distance. He almost forgot himself and smiled, but refrained from doing so. This was no time to be smiling. He passed a large boulder and there, in the forest was an ancient tree, as large as the goshinboku. He walked up to it and ran a tentative finger across its calloused bark. A pensive sigh escaped his nostrils as he circled the tree. He almost fell down when he saw something. There was someone nailed to the tree. He looked dolefully up at the depressing sight. Had that been what he had looked like? Pinned to the tree by an arrow exactly like he had been. The oddity of this did not seem to affect him. He could empathize with this poor creature, in solitary darkness for Kami knows how long. He climbed a large vine to get a better look at the person. When he was nose to nose with him, his eyes widened at the sudden realisation that this person looked eerily familiar. Without warning, the reposing body opened its eyes, looked him straight in his, and, with a snarl, spoke menacingly: "Hey! What do you think you're doing here? She's mine now, get over it."
With a huff, Kagome sat down on a rock, guided by a haggard, half-rotten stick. "Ohh!" She cried out, livid. "He couldn't even say goodbye!" She shouted to the deaf oak trees around her. Her anger swiftly morphed into undeniable melancholy as her face fell into her hands, soaked with ever-flowing tears.
They had followed Inuyasha's trail correctly and, after an...interesting conversation with the evasive, old witch in the village, they headed down the dividing path between the sentineled, twin peaks. They had found the cave, but wanted to rest for a while before entering, and get some much needed rest. As she walked gloomily featured back to camp, she inhaled deeply the fresh, aroma of scented flowers. Along her palm she felt the scarlet blooms of roses. She was in some kind of garden.
"Inuyasha," She barely more than muttered to herself, "I won't forget you." She fingered another aromatic bud, "Never." With that more tears came.
"She's mine now, get over it." stumbled backwards, landing on a soft cushion of cloth. He sat up, realising he was in a dark room, ringlets of gentle light crept through the cracks of the large, wooden door. Franticly feeling about him, he finally felt the comforting object of the Tetsusaiga. With a relieved sigh, he stood on the cold floor, moving toward the door. Where was he? As he reached for the latch, the door opened. In the blinding light, he saw the indistinct silhouette of an old woman. "Well," she said, her soft voice held an eerie attitude. "you seem to have recovered well enough." She clasped an air of sagacity, the rough, weathered lines of her aged face no doubt held innumerable maxims and truisms. She looked at him expectantly. "Well," She seemed to have a stoic, indifferent attitude, as if nothing could distress her serene countenance. "are you comin'?" He looked untrustingly at her and held his head with pride. "What are the terms?" She huffed impatiently and pointed to gowing ball around his neck "That." He closed his eyes, thoughts of Kagome filled his head, and he nodded grimly. He ripped the orb off the string around his neck, slinging it at her feet, at the threshold of the inky shadows. He could almost make out a sinister smirk upon her shadowy face. If he had been paying attention, he would have seen the jewel slide softly into the darkness, while both of the old witch's arms remained at her sides. "Good," She said slowly, "let us begin."for the delay, been reading a lot lately. I know I embellished a little with the description, but it's hard not to.
