Don't own the dog-youkai, got it?
An End to it.
T he stale, stiff air vibrated tremulously as the great beast swayed its massive, clawed hands askance at him. Inuyasha barely avoided the blows, getting a few small, festering scratches from the wake of the movements. He drew Tetsusaiga, glared hatefully up at it, and gathered his power. Every iota of energy he had in his body went into this attack. He even dipped into his own life force.
With a broad, powerful swing, Inuyasha released fury from his katana. As a firy cloud of energy charged toward the Bohemoth, it attempted to go back into the earth. As it writhed like a worm, the storm of youki passed over her, tearing its lithe body to pieces as it disapeared in the smoke.
Inuyasha sighed in relief. She had been powerful, but not as much as he had expected. For a 'fire-youkai' she didn't have all that much fire to her. There was a small noise behind him. He turned around.
There stood Lucia, seemingly in awe of the massacre, her bow hanging innocently from her quiver full of arrows. He glanced at her, emotionless. She winced with a pang of stabbing guilt, seeing the unconscious--probably dead-- girl leaning against a tree. Inuyasha turned to face her, dropping his now untransformed katana to the ground with a thud . The look, the emotion he gave her sent chills down her back. It was silent insanity, quiet hatred, tearless pain. His eyes sank slowly to the ground and closed, a single, lonely tear dribbling unhurriedly down his cheek. He smelled that Kagome was dead.
As he stood there in silent eternity, Lucia walked slowly up to him, laying an understanding had on his shoulder. He shook it off angrily.
"Why?!" He shouted. "Why did she have to die?!" His eyes were a puffy red, his lip trembled as he attempted anger, his grief too much now to ignore.
"Inuyasha-sama," She said soothingly. "you will see her again." She looked toward the body. "Very soon."
A glowing, purple mist hung ominously over the ground. Evil was stirring.
It crept slowly at first, not enough for them to notice, them picked up speed. Inuyasha was too much with his own heart that he did not see it. Lucia looked apprehensively toward the approaching fog, and bit her lip with fear. She knew all too well that her sister was not dead. But she had a plan.
The ground shook very gently at first, as tremulous as dew dripping off the petal of a delicate rose. As it neared them, the shaking increased till the earth split open nearby. A great, vacant chasm, fire and brimstone spilling up into the azure above. In a flurry of smoke, the demonaic creature burst forth, spewing glowing red lava after it. The air vibrated with its thunderous voice, a godlike roar as it towered over them, purple eyes once again narrowing in carnivorous lust, the evil desire to engulf his in his own misery. Inuyasha stared absently up at it, no fear nor anger nor emotion showing in his eyes. He had given up.
"No more sarcastic remarks, Inuyasha?" It mocked him. Inuyasha inhaled deeply, took one more fleeting glance toward his reposing love, and sighed. He was ready to die, there was nothing to keep him here. Maybe, he thought idly, it was all true, and this is all just a dream. He smiled slightly. "Yes," He looked up at it. "just a dream."
In an instant, the creature pounded face-first into the earth, leaving a hole where Inuyasha had been. Inuyasha stared up, dazed to see that Lucia had taken his place. The creature smirked.
"Well, little sister," It said, patting its belly. "You'll always be close to my heart." It chuckled slightly. "Right in my stomach."
It raced toward him, its mouth open wide and its soulless eyes staring at him. For some inexplicable reason, Inuyasha suddenly had the desire to fight back. He stood his ground, readying his small claws for a futile attack. The beast cocked back its arm, the long, slender purple claws shimmering in the midday sun, and jerked it forward with a broad, sweeping stroke. As the force hit him, Inuyasha was suddenly floating. He opened his eyes and looked around. Darkness.
He heard something above, and he stared at the images projecting in front of him. He saw, felt, himself sitting with the old lady in the village, the one Lucia had looked like before her transformation. The old woman was saying something to him-- it sounded like some kind of prayer or chant. He closed his eyes. Around his he smelled incense, woodsmoke, and a smell completely foreign to him. He heard her rythmic grumbling, words he coudln't understand. His senses seemed to be heightened. The crackle of the fire popped like a firecracker in his ears. His nose turned up in disgust as the pungent smell of the incense. His skin tingled as a rebellious breeze drifted through the cracks in the hut. He felt an unusual sensation as his consciousness--not his feeling, faded away.
It was as if he was somewhere in the background of his mine, feeling everything that happened, but powerless to control it. He heard as he--who/whatever was controlling him--yelled angrily at Kagome for the thousandth time that day. He felt the anger this...thing felt as it stifled the desire to rip the girl apart. Inuyasha struggled with all his will to free himself, but his attempts came to naught. He got control for a few minutes at a time, then was paralized once more. The days went by quickly in his bonded state. Then it happened.
He was blinded. He could her a low, rustling noise about him. He felt the leaves on low-hanging tree branches as they grazed his skin. He could smell the dampness of the trees as he realized he was moving. A blurred vision came to him. He saw as the stars and trees and the ground raced by, he heard the loud panting as the thing controlling his spirited through the festooning vines as they glowed in the moonlight. He saw a white blur ahead. Darkness came for a few moments.
Inuyasha opened his eyes as he kneeled over the dead body of Kagome on the moonlit forest floor. Her life-blood covered his hands. A large gash was across her back, bleeding still. He looked, horrified, down at his hands. The jewel was in one, her blood coated the other.
"No..." He whispered. "not again."
He raced toward the village again.
Inuyasha opened his eyes, seeing the beast above him. A large gash went across his chest. The creature writhed and squirmed as it held a hand to its throat as if choking. A fulgent, concentrated beam of white light pierced its stomach, followed by dozens more. It was being killed from the inside. As it slowly ripped apart, a low, brooding growl came from its throat.
"Inuyasha..." It groaned. "you have defeated me." It growled once more in agony. "But I will never forgive you."
"For what?" Inuyasha yelled up to it.
"For...killing my son. For destroying my..." It hurled its body convulsively to the ground. "...love...."
The beast was dead.
Inuyasha stared for a long minute at the scene. The purple fire faded, crackles of energy blew away with the wind. He stood, with a sigh, and crawled over to Kagome's body. He collapsed on top of her, grasping her hand as his life faded.
A familiar scent graced his nostrils. There was incense. A crackling fire. A burning smell. And....
"Inuyasha?" A deliciously familiar voice rang in his ears as he opened his eyes.
