InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Miko Bride ❯ The Miko Bride-Capture ( Chapter 8 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

(They emerge on a beach at the far end of the Fire Swamp.)

Kagome: We made it!

Inuyasha: Was that so horrible?

(They summon up their last reserves of strength, and start for the `Shikon.' Unexpectedly, they find themselves blocked by Naraku, Hiten, and the samurai.)

Naraku: Surrender!

Inuyasha: You mean you wish to surrender to me? Very well, I accept.

Naraku: You get full marks for bravery. Now don't be a fool. Surrender!

Inuyasha: How will you catch us? We know the secrets of the Fire Swamp. We can live there quite happily for some time. Feel free to drop in whenever you feel like dying.

Naraku: I tell you again-surrender!

Inuyasha: It will not happen!

(As Kagome looks about her, she notices two warriors hiding in the shadows, loaded crossbows aimed at Inuyasha's heart.)

Naraku: For the last time-SURRENDER!

Inuyasha: IT WILL NOT HAPPEN!

(Kagome sees a third warrior, blocking Inuyasha's escape.)

Kagome: Will you promise not to hurt him?

Naraku and Inuyasha: (Whirling to face her.) What was that?

Kagome: If we surrender, and I go with you, will you promise not to hurt this man?

Naraku: May I live a thousand years and never hunt again.

Kagome: He is a sailor on the pirate ship `Shikon.' Promise to return him to his ship.

Naraku: I swear it will be done.

(He turns and whispers to Hiten.)

Naraku: Once we're out of sight, take him back to Kyoto, and throw him in the Pit of Despair.

Hiten: I swear it will be done.

Kagome: (To Inuyasha.) I thought you were dead once, and it nearly destroyed me. I could not bear it if you died again, not when I can save you.

(Inuyasha is silent. Before Kagome can speak again, Naraku scoops her up and they ride off. Inuyasha stares after her. Hiten rides up to him. In one hand he clutches a great staff.)

Hiten: Come sir, we must get you to your ship.

Inuyasha: (Scathingly.) We are men of action. Lies do not become us.

Hiten: Well spoken, sir. (Pause.) What are you staring at?

Inuyasha: You have six fingers on your right hand. Someone was looking for you.

(Hiten snarls and knocks Inuyasha unconscious with the staff. The hanyou awakens in a deep, dank pit, chained to a table. A wrinkled witch comes down the steps carrying a tray of medication and food. She sets it down next to Inuyasha, and sets about tending his wounds.)

Inuyasha: Where am I?

Kijo: (Hoarsely.) The Pit of Despair. Don't even think-

(She coughs and sputters, then starts again, this time with a normal voice.)

Kijo: The Pit of Despair. Don't even think about trying to escape. The chains are far too thick. Don't dream of rescue either. The only entrance is secret, known only to the prince, the duke, and me.

Inuyasha: So I'm here until I die.

Kijo: Till they kill you, yeah.

Inuyasha: So why are you treating me?

Kijo: Naraku and Hiten insist everyone being healthy before they're broken.

Inuyasha: Torture, then. I can handle that.

(Kijo shakes her head.)

Kijo: You braved the Fire Swamp, so you must be strong. But no one resists…The Machine.
