Chapter 2 GOING HOME
Riding ono the back of a transformed Shippo, Kagome felt a kind of uneasiness. Was she doing the right thing? Every thing seemed okay. Even Inuyasha didn't put up much of an argument about her leaving. She didn't know whether to be thankful for that or insulted. After all, he did like spending time with her didn't he?
"Shippo. Watch Inuyasha for me while I'm gone, would you?"
"What? Why?"
"Just see what he does, okay?"
"Okay. I don't get it. But okay."
They flew the rest of the way in silence. Shippo wasn't stupid. He knew what this was about. Kagome wants to know if Inuyasha sits around and broods over her the whole time she's gone. He does get pretty testy with her not around, Shippo thought. Even more than usual.
When they finally arrived at the well Kagome leapt off the big, pink Shippo with a grunt of effort. Shippo turned back into Shippo and hurried after Kagome, whom was already sitting on the edge of the well.
"Remember. Keep an eye on Inuyasha for me."
With that, Kagome threw her long legs over the side of the well and pushed herself over the edge and was gone. Shippo had to roll his eyes.
-----------------------------------
"That damn Kagome! I don't see what the big deal is! What's so great about a ‘real bed' anyway? It's just as stupid as the stupid as the soap thing! I swear she thinks this is a game!"
Inuyasha was pacing back and forth in the little hut in Kaede's village.
Miroku and Songo just sat there with blank stared on their faces. They had stopped listening to Inuyasha a long time ago. Songo was polishing her huriaktsu. She had scuffed it up pretty bad practicing earlier this morning. Miroku looked as if he were sleeping with his eyes open.
"Are you two even listening to me?!" Inuyasha snapped.
"Nope." Miroku yawned.
"You say the same thing every time Kagome leaves." Songo said from behind her large weapon.
Inuyasha was about to snap back when Shippo came in. The young fox demon sat in his usual spot on the floor of the hut next to where Kagome would usually sit. They had been back in Kaede's village for a couple hours now. When Kagome said she was going home for a couple of days, Miroku had suggested a break for the rest of them as well.
Inuyasha was not pleased but he knew that with a couple of his comrades being human he had to let them take breaks every now and then. Better to let them rest for a couple of days than to have to listen to them all whine for another week.
Inuyasha sat down. He was still brooding, but he was doing it quietly now.
It did not go unnoticed by Shippo.
-------------------------------------
Kagome emerged from the well house to a perfect day. There was no sign of Grandpa or Sota but Mama was pulling weeds from around the Sacred Tree.
"Mama!" Kagome shouted happily. She hadn't seen her mom in over a week.
"Kagome! You're back!" She hugged her daughter. "How long will you be staying this time?"
"I'm not sure. A few days at least. Inuyasha has everything under control back in his time. They are taking a couple of days to rest too."
Kagome smiled reassuringly but was still not sure she should be here. Inuyasha will come get me if something comes up, she thought. I should really stop worrying so much.
"Come inside. I made omelets. They are probably cold by now but you can warm them up. I put some of those sweet little onions in them that you like."
"Thanks mom, but if it's okay with you, the first thing I want is a bath." Kagome could hardly wait to get into a hot tub with shampoo and conditioner and soap. Oh! And maybe some bubbles, too!
"Of coarse. You must be looking forward to that. You've been gone for so long you must have run out of shampoo by now. Why don't you go put your things in the wash room and I'll run you a bath. You can have your omelets after."
"Thanks mom. That sounds great."
Kagome quickly ran upstairs to her room and got undressed. She put on her bathrobe and was headed for the bathroom when she remembered she hadn't put her cloths in the washroom. She thought about going back to get them but decided that she would do her own laundry tomorrow. Her mother could take a break from it for once. Maybe she would do the rest of the laundry while she was at it. After all, tomorrow was Saturday. She would have a lot of homework to do but laundry doesn't take long. She had all day Sunday too.
She closed got to the bathroom to find the water running hot and filling the tub. Good old mom, she thought. Kagome got her towels ready and removed her robe.
"Now, where is that bubble bath?" She said to herself.
She found it under the sink and put in a capful, thought about it and added another capful. Why not? She deserved it, didn't she?
"Yes I do." She said under her breath.
Kagome let the water run for a minute more and turned it off. She slipped into the hot tub and sighed heavily. This was the life. She loved the feudal era and everything about it. Except Naraku, of coarse. But this was something she needed. Maybe she was being ‘girly' as Inuyasha calls her, but so what? At least she smells good. No one has complained about that so far.
"I think I'll stay in here forever."
