Chapter 9
Mercy
She had been running for about ten minutes now, and her legs already ached. She was grateful to see a yellow furry demon flying towards her.
“Kirara!” she exclaimed happily. “Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!”
The demon purred and waited for Kagome to climb on her back. Then, she went up high in the air and Kagome sighed. “I love you, did you know that?” Kirara purred and flew away.

“Perfect…” Mamoru smirked evilly as he stared at the place. It wasn't a hard place to find, but it was just the perfect size for what he had intended. The perfect fit. It was on the side of the mountain, and the ground was completely flat. Anybody could…fall off the side...if it was intended… He had placed the half-breed and the human on the edges of the cliff, so that the miko would have to hold them in place with her powers ( so they wouldn't fall). She would then be completely defenceless…

“Miroku, shouldn't we go with her?” Sango worried as she held Shippo in her arms, squeezing him every so often.
“I don't know, Sango… If we do, they might hurt Inuyasha and Yuu…” Miroku answered her, as they sat in camp, worried for their friends.
“How did they know about the night of the new moon?” Sango pondered aloud.
“I don't know…” Miroku repeated.
“This doesn't make sense…”
“I know…maybe Kagura finally told Naraku…”
“You think he was Naraku's spawn?”
“I have no idea…He might have been…”
“I have never heard of sorcerer demons… Usually we hear about old witches with black hats and cats…but…”
Shippo shuddered and held Sango tightly. “It's my fault…” he sobbed.
“How is it your fault, Shippo?” Sango asked him softly.
“I…I told Inuyasha to… tell Kagome he loved her…and if I hadn't told him Kagome loved him back…and Yuu was mean and I didn't like him and I heard you and Kagome…and she loved him…and I told him…and It's all my fault!” he stuttered.
“No…Shippo, don't cry… You're not making sense…please repeat all that slowly…”
“I heard you and Kagome talking in the spring and she said she was in love with him but he didn't love her back…and then I heard her say she only loved Yuu because he was like Inuyasha…so I told Inuyasha to go tell her he loved her so Yuu could leave us alone…and then if Inuyasha hadn't told her, she wouldn't have rejected him and he wouldn't have left her and Miroku and me…we could have saved him…and…and…”
“Shippo! Shippo, you're not making sense again…”
“Sango,” Miroku cut in, “Inuyasha agreed to go tell his feelings to Kagome, and we followed them. When he told her he loved her, she said she didn't trust him with her heart,” Sango gasped at this, “and then he left her in the woods crying, so we just went back to camp…”
“So if Kagome hadn't rejected him, they would have stayed together and he wouldn't have been hurt…is that what you mean, Shippo?”
“Yes…” he sniffled.
“Well, if you hadn't convinced him to go talk to Kagome, he would have stayed all by himself anyway.”
“No, he would have stayed with us at the spring!” Shippo wailed.
“Stop crying, Shippo! None of this is your fault! Actually, I think it's Yuu's fault…” she frowned.
“Yeah,” Miroku agreed, frowning as well.

With a few flicks of his wrist, Kamuro had them both lying on the ground. The human had blacked out like the wimp he was, and the half-breed was still unconscious, although he was mumbling a little and groaning every so often.
“Wimps,” he muttered as he sat down, waiting for his master.
And he didn't have to wait long. A minute later, Lord Mamoru was walking towards him, in his black cape. Kamuro had never seen his features. He was always wearing that damn cape…
Kamuro suddenly looked over to Inuyasha who had just shifted. It was surprising. How could a simple human move after he had been struck in the chest?
“Kagome…” Inuyasha mumbled…
“Please say you love me back, Kagome…” he begged.
“I…I can't…” she sobbed as she lowered her head. She couldn't bear to see the pain in his eyes. “Inuyasha, I know you…You'll go back to Kikyo whenever she comes around…”
“But, Kagome…Kikyo's- ”
“No, Inuyasha,” she sniffled, “Don't say it. You will. I know you. I…I trust you with my life Inuyasha, but not with my heart…”
He felt the pain all over again. The pain of being rejected. He shifted and looked at the person next to him. `They took that idiot too?' he thought. `Great,' he thought sarcastically, `now I'm going to have to save him too!'
He tried to get up but realized he was hurting too much. `Kagome…' he thought, `how could I have been so stupid? How could I have thought you'd love me back…? I wish you could love me…But I'm just a filthy half-breed…who could love me?' he pondered on this for a while until he realized that nobody could. Nobody had ever loved him…except his mother…but that was different. Had Kikyo loved him? She had never really said the words…and she wanted him to become human for her.
He'd always thought Kagome accepted him as he was. How she had defended him in front of Yuu, how she had handled Jinenji… He had always thought she harboured feelings for him. But now, it seemed like the only person she cared about was Yuu.
`Like you with Kikyo…' his mind told him.
Yes, that was true. He had always run off to Kikyo and left Kagome alone, hurting. He had almost lost her once. Just two days ago, he was going to go to hell with Kikyo without even saying goodbye. He was a terrible person, and he admitted it. But if he could take it all back, he would. He would fix it all so that he could be with Kagome.
If only he had said no to Kikyo, maybe Kagome wouldn't have met Yuu, maybe she wouldn't have decided she wanted him to stay with her…
But Shippo had told him she only wanted Yuu because he was like him. Did she, really? Was she that…desperate? But she had just told him she didn't love him. She had just said that.
`No, she didn't.' his mind argued.
`Yes, she did.'
`No, she said she couldn't trust you with her heart. She didn't say she didn't love you .She's scared you'll hurt her.'
`But I told her I loved her!'
This just wasn't making sense anymore. Inuyasha rolled on his back to try and see where he was but he felt someone step on his stomach, on his wound. “Aaahh,” he groaned.
“Shut up, you disgusting half-breed! And stop moving around. We wouldn't want you to fall off the cliff, would we?” he smirked.
Inuyasha snapped his head towards his right. And he saw…nothing! Just the sky. He was on the edge of the cliff. He was at the mercy of the man standing next to him.

`I'm almost there, Inuyasha!'
