Chapter 10

Betrayal

AN: Soooooo sorry it took a long time!! Thx for stickin wit me!!

All she could do was hang on to Kirara's fur and pray. And it was killing her. Her Inuyasha. Her hanyou. Her love. He was away from her and it was all her fault. If only she had admitted her feelings to him, then he wouldn't have left her, and she would have been able to help him protect himself from Kamuro.
It was killing her inside. How she wished she could have helped him. How she wished she could have been there for him. How she wished she could save him. How she wished Kirara could go faster, damn it!
She sighed as a tear ran down her cheek. `I'm such an idiot!' she thought, `I'm so stupid!'
Kirara purred, as if to comfort her, and Kagome's tears only doubled. She hung on to the fur harder when they were close to their destination. Kirara sniffed the air and growled.
In the distance, Kagome could see her love. Her eyes widened in fear.

After what seemed like forever, Miroku and Sango had finally decided that it was all Yuu's fault.
“Stop crying, Shippo! None of this is your fault! Actually, I think it's Yuu's fault…” she frowned.
“Yeah,” Miroku agreed, frowning as well.
They had then decided to go help out Kagome, without being seen. Hachi had been of good use for once, and Myoga showed up at the right time.
“Lady Sango,” he bowed as he struggled to keep his balance on her shoulder.
“Hai, Myoga?” she answered him.
“I saw what happened to Master Inuyasha, and I have to say, I am quite worried…” he said, furrowing his brows.
“Worried?” Miroku questioned, “But we have already been through this kind of situation.”
“Hai, but never with Mamoru…”
“Mamoru?” Sango asked.
“Hai, Mamoru is a well known enemy of the Tai Youkai family…But most of all, he wants the jewel of four souls.”
“Who doesn't?” Shippo snorted.
“What he is intending to do is watch Lady Kagome suffer. He's going to make her hold Inuyasha and Yuu up if they decide to push them off the cliff.”
“Why would they do that?” Miroku asked as he raised an eyebrow, “Don't they want the shards?”
“Hai, they do, but they know Kagome won't give them anything.”
“But she will!” Sango countered.
“They don't think she will. They think she'll want to try to get everything…so they're going to make her hold Inuyasha and Yuu up with her spiritual powers, only to watch her suffer.”
“But…why?” Miroku frowned.
“I told you, Mamoru's sick. He's crazy…Blood crazy. All he wants to do is watch her suffer, and then get rid of Yuu and Inuyasha right in front of her, so that she'll have to hold them up until her spiritual powers cease to exist…then he'll make her give him the shards.”
“He's horrible…”Shippo cried.
“Hai, he is. But we mustn't linger on these things. You all have to save Kagome and Inuyasha.”
“Let's move, then!” Sango ordered, more determined than ever.

“Inuyasha…” she whispered.
There he was, lying on the floor, with Kamuro hitting him in the stomach. She could tell he was in pain, even though he wasn't making a sound. She bit her lip to hold back the tears that were forming, and yelled out, “Stop!”
Kamuro turned to her abruptly and smirked evilly. “I see you have finally come,” he said.
Inuyasha tried his best to look in her direction, groaning as the movement hurt his wounded stomach. He caught her gaze and looked at her desperately. Her eyes watered slightly as she stared at him, and she mouthed the words, “Hold on,” to him.
He had trouble reading her lips, but figured it out, and smiled lightly, allowing himself the weakness of closing his eyes to rest. Kagome glanced at Yuu, and cried out his name. Inuyasha's eyes flew open instantly. She cared about him…his heart was crushed again.
Kamuro looked over to his master. Mamoru was already walking over to the ningen girl.
“Get down from the demon, wench,” he ordered.
Kagome couldn't do anything but comply. This man's aura was stronger than any she had ever felt…Kirara slowly flew to the ground, and Kagome hopped off of her, stroking her fur lightly to comfort her, but she knew it was useless, as she was just as scared as the neko-demon. Kagome bit her lip and stared at him, expecting him to ask of the jewel shards.
The jewel shards…There was only one left…Naraku was still looking for it. All Kagome had was two little ones, but still, they would serve her greatly. Without them, Naraku couldn't restore the jewel. Not just without them, but without a priestess.
He indeed needed a priestess to restore the pieces. The only priestesses powerful enough were Kagome and Kikyo…and probably Kaede.
While all of this was rolling in her head, Mamoru was staring at her.
“You came to save your friends?” he asked, already knowing the answer.
“Hai,” she answered him calmly, even though he could smell her fear.
Inuyasha was opening his eyes, and then closing them. Opening…and closing… It was already hard to breathe, his whole body ached, and all he could do to hang on was to listen to Kagome's voice and inhale her scent deeply - which was already a hard thing to do…
“The half-breed is dying, can you not see?” Mamoru purred.
She bit her lip and nodded, not liking at all the soft way he had stated that.
“Why don't you help him out and lift him up from the ground?” he purred again.
“What?” she asked, dumbfounded.
“Lift him, now!” Mamoru yelled.
Kagome's hands shot up and a light blue barrier formed around Inuyasha as he was lifted off of the ground. He gasped, but relaxed when he noticed Kagome was controlling his floating. He trusted her.
“Very well…”Mamoru cooed, “But now, wouldn't you like to do the same to the ningen?” he asked, “Now!”
Kagome moved one of her hands to Yuu and the same thing happened to him, he was enveloped in a blue barrier and was lifted in the air.
“Beautiful…”Mamoru said as he walked over to the barriers. He didn't touch them; just let his hands pass next to them to feel their power. Yes, this priestess would be of use to them… He then turned to her, smirking. “Is it an easy thing to do?” he asked her.
Kagome was starting to breathe more heavily. He was toying with her powers, she painfully realized. He wanted to exhaust her, didn't he? She growled in his direction and he smirked again.
“I wonder…” he sighed, creating a ball of light in his hands and pushing it towards the barrier containing Yuu. Kagome's eyes widened as he pushed his hand inside, and Yuu's body went completely tense, his eyes shot open, and he yelled in agony. Nothing had touched it, she realized, but still, he was hurt.
She growled in the direction of Mamoru, wanting nothing more than to hurt him…but she understood…
She was at his mercy.
She couldn't defend herself…all she could do was hold up her friends, and for the first time in a while, she felt terrified.
Inuyasha looked over to her, and she sensed his gaze, quickly turning her head to face him.
“Kagome…” he choked out, and her eyes filled with tears again. “Let go…”
He was going to say more, she could feel it, but she yelled at him, right then and there. She yelled at him for being so stupid. “You baka! I'll never do that!”
He winced at the tone she used, his ears flattening against his head, but smiled warmly and closed his eyes once more. He felt quite good, actually, in her little barrier. It smelled of her, and it was all warm and the air was…comforting…
Mamoru laughed sadistically. “Humans and their stupid emotions,” he spat bitterly, as if he was remembering something. “Don't you know that humans and demons cannot co-exist?!” he yelled, “Don't you know that they are meant to fight?!”
Kagome snarled at him, her eyes flying daggers at him. “That's not true!” she growled, “Inuyasha is proof of that!” the said hanyou's eyes shot open, expecting…hoping to hear the three words that would give him strength.
“He is born from a demon male and a human female!” she yelled, “And I know that Inu no Taisho loved Izayoi dearly!” she stomped her feet, as annoyed as ever. How dare he say those things? “They didn't fight! They were in love!” her voice reduced to a whisper, and even Inuyasha had trouble hearing it. “Just as I am now…”
His mind raced. Was she talking about him? Or was she rubbing it in?
Mamoru glared at her, but his gaze turned to the now panting Yuu. “Awake, you miserable bastard?” he growled at him.
At the mention of Yuu, Kagome felt her heart break.
Yuu.
He was so innocent in the world she had pulled him in. He had been with them a few days, and now, he was in danger of being killed. She was suddenly angry at him. She had told him not to come with them! And then she was angry at herself…she was supposed to have stopped him…She should have stopped him! She should have never fallen for him in the first place! She growled at Mamoru, and he grinned at Yuu sadistically.
“Yeah,” Yuu choked out, “I'm awake…”
Mamoru smirked and another ball of light formed in his palm. He thrust it in the barrier and Yuu cried out in pain. “You are, aren't you?” he cooed.
“Now, why don't you tell this beautiful wench what you've been up to…?” he smirked.
Inuyasha's eyes shot open and Kagome's widened. What was he talking about…? Yuu was panting now, looking over to Kagome, only to see hurt and confusion in her eyes. “What I've been up to?” he snarled, “I was trying to get the jewel!”
Mamoru smirked at Kagome whose hand was trembling. A little more, he thought…a little more and she'd drop him…
“The jewel…?” she choked out, “So you…you never loved me?”
At this, Yuu laughed. “Love you? How could I love you if I was only a replacement of the one you desperately seeked?” he smiled. “No, I was only after the jewel, and I was helping out Mamoru…”
Kamuro looked over to them. Was it true? Yuu had been working for him? How come he never knew? He had kidnapped him! He had hurt him! And now, Mamoru was torturing him!
“You were only after the jewel…?” Kagome asked, a tear slipping down her cheek. How come every man she loved let her down?
“Of course!” he snapped, “You think I ever loved you? A bitch in love with a hanyou?
Inuyasha winced at this, again reminded that she didn't love him. He sniffed and opened his eyes again. He smelled tears. Kagome was crying. Nobody could make her cry! He snarled in direction of Yuu, his eyes shooting daggers at him.
“Now, Mamoru, will you let me down?” Yuu smiled in his direction.
Mamoru just smirked. Yuu didn't think much of it at first, knowing that he loved torturing. He hadn't been surprised when he got the ball of light treatment…And Kamuro hadn't known that he worked for Mamoru, so he couldn't blame him for being hit.
“You aren't of any use to me anymore,” he smiled softly, “How sad…”
Yuu's eyes widened, and he was about to say something but Mamoru silenced him, his hand shooting up. He tightened it in a fist, and Yuu's mouth clamped closed. He couldn't open it anymore.
Kagome now understood more of what was happening.
Mamoru was going to hurt her. He was going to make her cry, exhaust her until she could no longer hold them. He was going to break her soul, making her kill her friends, her love and then he was going to make her do his bidding.
“You monster,” she choked out between sobs, “You disgusting monster…”
