Chapter 1

 

 

It was late at night, the Inu-gang were scattered around a campfire. Everyone was sleeping except for Inu Yasha and Kagome who were whispering quietly.

 

"So, have you made up your mind about it yet?" she asked for probably the 10th time that day. But this time she averted her eyes, not wanting to meet his gaze.

 

He had been going over his options over and over through out the past 2 days. He could use the Shikon to turn mortal and stay with Kagome, or he could stay a Hanyou, but he would still live a few more centuries after all his friends and Kagome died, or her could just go all out Youkai like he first wanted and just forget everyone. The first option he was favoring the most, even if it meant losing all his demon abilities. But he could live his short human life with Kagome.

He just shook his head, eyes closed. Could Kagome just protect the jewel forever?

 

Kagome knew Inu Yashas options, and then it occurred to her that all his options were based around her! He was torn between being a mortal with her and being full Youkai and alone forever. Her heart wanted to stay with the hanyou she first met those many, many months ago. There was something forming in the back of her mind, but she just pushed it even farther back.

Inu Yasha poked absentmindedly at the fire, deep in thought.

 

After about half an hour of silence, Kagome finally fell asleep against Inu Yasha's shoulder.

The Gang was slowly making their way back to Kaede's village to maybe get some more ideas about what to do with the Shikon.

Everyone including Shippou, were still very stiff from their battle against Naraku. All were looking foreword to the steamy Hot Springs just to the side of the village.

That night after a soak in the Hot Spring, just Kagome, Inu Yasha, Shippou, Kirara, and Kaede were sitting around the fire pit in Kaede's hut.

(Sango and Miroku were getting noticeably closer and going off alone more frequently ;P)

Inu Yasha and Kaede were talking while Kagome seemed to be off daydreaming, staring at the fire but not really seeing it.

She had been trying to organize her thoughts and understand the one building in her head.

 

Inu Yasha looked over at her "Kagome, are you okay?"

 

"Hmm?" She came out of her stupor and then that thought hiding in her mind sprang to the front, as if Inu Yasha's voice had set it free.

She gasped and her eyes flew open wide. Inu Yasha and Kaede gasped too and looked at her in shock.

 

"Inu Yasha, come with me, I need to talk to you". And without waiting for his reply, she walked out the door without so much as a second glance.

 

Inu Yasha followed her into a small clearing well out of earshot from the village.

 

Kagome sat against a large tree trunk, knee's up under her chin under arms wrapped around her shins. She sat in silence, staring at the ground while an uncomfortable Inu Yasha stood nearby wondering what to say or do. He took a chance and sat down in front of her, waiting and watching.

 

She startled him when she spoke without directing herself directly "Inu Yasha, I have an idea about what to do about the Shikon no Tama that doesn't directly involve you."

She shifted till she faced him, legs curled under her. She slowly reaches out and held his hands. His heart was beating quicker, yet Kagome still wouldn't look at him.

 

"I know you've been basing your options around me, and ho we could stay with each other." She took a breath, staring at their clasped hands "I know you think that if you were human, we could be together and live a normal life. But I know you would miss your Youkai qualities…and so would I. You could also be full Youkai and forget all of us and live forever but alone."

 

InuYasha's heart was racing like mad and his mind was buzzing what is she getting at? The only other option is to stay hanyou.

 

As if reading his mind, Kagome finally looked up into his amber eyes. "I was thinking that you should stay hanyou, since that is what I fell in love with."

 

Inu Yasha's heart skipped a beat at her words.

"But I would live so much longer than you Kagome, I couldn't stand to see you grow old and live alone that long" he almost whispered.

 

Kagome continued, still not looking at him "I was thinking of using the jewel to make myself…" She paused for a moment, voice shaking ever so slightly.

 

Inu Yasha could hear her own quickened heartbeat.

 

She took a breath and suddenly looked at him with a strange look in her eyes "to make myself hanyou".

She looked down at their hands tightly clasped, hers shaking slightly, his held limp.

 

His mind and body felt numb yet felt like jumping in excitement and most strongly to just wrap his arms around her and kiss her.

If she became hanyou, we would always be together.

He gently released one of her hands and put it under her chin to raise her face to his. He spoke with as gentle and calm a voice as he could "Is that what you really want? That would mean seeing all our friends and your family grow old and die. Would you give all that up for me?"

 

She had prepared for this answer "I know that, but by that time I'll have a family of my own, with you" Tears formed at the corners of her big brown eyes.

 

Inu Yasha leaned down and gave Kagome a light kiss. Kagome's eyes shot open wide for a moment, heart threatening to burst. She closed her eyes and leaned into Inu Yasha's kiss.

 

Inu Yasha could barely think through the sound blood pulsing in his ears. He could tell it was Kagome's first real kiss by the way she had reacted, not sure of what to do. He gently wrapped his other arm around her back and drew her in tight to his body.

 

They broke apart, Inu Yasha turned his body and leaned against the broad trunk of the tree, leading Kagome by her hand. She sat between his legs, back against his chest, wrapped in his arms. Her head resting on his right shoulder. She turned her face upwards, placed her left hand around his neck and drew his face down to meet her lips.

 

Gaining confidence by the second, he started kissing along her jaw and down her neck then back up to her lips. He whispered in her left ear "Arigoto Kagome." With a final soft brush of lips, they fell asleep in each other's arms.

The next morning Inu Yasha awoke to find himself nose-to-nose with a pair of bright green, playful kitsune eyes.

How he hadn't smelt Shippou that close baffled him. The scent of Kagome had put him into a sleep so deep, that he hadn't slept like that since his mother was still alive.

 

Shippou had a particularly smug grin on his face. Only when Inu Yasha was completely awake did he realize Kagome was still nestled against his chest wrapped in his arms sleeping contently.

His face burned as he realized what must be creeping through Shippou's tiny little mind. Then he noticed Sango and Miroku a little ways off (What! They were holding hands!) also wearing Shippou's smug expression. He wasn't quite sure what to do. Chasing after them would only wake up Kagome, but just sitting here made it only more awkward.

 

He gently nudged Kagome awake (much to his dislike, he wanted to stay like that forever), hoping maybe she could explain the situation. Her eyes fluttered open to the grinning Shippou on Inu Yasha's opposite shoulder.

 

"What's so funny?" she asked groggily. Only to find she was snuggled against Inu Yasha.

A blush fit to rival a raspberry crept across her face when she also noticed Sango and Miroku. Realization suddenly awakened her as she jumped up, hands waving, blush intensifying "Its not what it looks like!"

 

Miroku leaped over to Inu Yasha's side, casually elbowing him in the arm. Eyebrows raised, eyes narrowed, and sly grin firmly in place "'Bout time you took her."

 

For once, Inu Yasha didn't quite know what to do in response to this comment. A blush also crept across his face, then he shouted at Miroku "Baka! Kagome's not that kind of girl so just shut up!" He ended his response by thumping Miroku on the head with his fist, knocking him to the ground.

 

Shippou, realizing what was coming, jumped off Inu Yasha's shoulder as he made a grab for his tail, but missed

"And wipe that smirk off your face or I'll do it for you kitsune!"

 

Inu Yasha grabbed Kagome's hand and led her past Sango who gave Kagome a nod in apology for jumping to conclusions.

 

They walked until they came to the god tree. Inu Yasha scooped up Kagome without warning and jumped onto his favorite branch. They sat in silence, Kagome waiting for Inu Yasha to calm down, and Inu Yasha waiting for Kagome's face to return to its normal color.

 

She sat, feet dangling beside Inu Yasha; face upturned and eyes closed. She felt the dappled sun on her now normal-color face remembering the previous night. She was startled when she felt Inu Yasha's hand cupped over hers.

 

"Kagome, I was just wondering how you wanted to go about telling the others about our decision."

 

She blushed ever so slightly at how he said "our decision". She bit her lip, "well, I actually hadn't thought about that" she said staring at the sky. After a moment of pondering she said, "well, since it's our decision, I was thinking maybe we could use Miroku and Sango."

 

Inu Yasha looked at her in utter confusion.

She turned and looked at him and continued "I mean, we both act like we thought of it on our own see, and then we'll ask Miroku and Sango what they think about it."

 

"But how will that help?" asked Inu Yasha

 

"You didn't let me finish. Anyway, once they both agree to that, I'll ask Sango and you ask Miroku if they'll consult each of us about how we feel."

 

Inu Yasha: Blink Blink 0_0

 

Kagome sighed "Look, you ask Miroku what he thinks of the idea and if he'll ask me to do it, then I'll ask Sango to ask you if you approve of the idea, understand?"

 

Inu Yasha just stared at her for a moment, face expressionless.

 

"You still don't understand?" sighed Kagome.

 

"No I understand, I just can't believe you came up with that in like five minutes" Inu Yasha grinned.

 

Kagome was a bit flustered by Inu Yasha's comment and shuffled closer to him (a bit difficult on a tree branch and in a mini skirt;P). Inu Yasha wrapped an arm over her shoulders and they just sat in silence and contempt.

Well? How's my first chapter? I've had the whole thing planned out in my mind so I had to write it down. And this is a lot different than my first rough copy in my fanfic notebook;P I had to though since my dear 9 year old brother wanted to read what I had -_-
