Chapter 4

 

 

Inu Yasha woke with a start knowing only that he didn't remember falling asleep and that he was naked. He opened his eyes, squinting in the early morning rays. Kagome shifted in her sleep against his chest. They best be getting back before everyone noticed they hadn't returned to the hut last night.

 

"Kagome" he whispered in her ear.

 

She moaned groggily before opening her eyes. She jumped slightly, trying to cover herself as she realized she was naked and trying to reach her clothes at the same time. She only managed a clumsy fall onto her chin.

 

"Calm down, no ones up yet" he mused, standing up and stretching.

 

Kagome sat up rubbing her chin with one hand; the other spread across her chest. Inu Yasha tossed her clothes to her. They dressed clumsily in silence, both still half asleep and tired from all the energy they used last night.

When they were done, they walked back to the village, Inu Yasha's arm around her shoulders.

 

They snuck back into the hut, Inu Yasha settling himself in his usual corner, Kagome going with him. No one stirred as they got comfortable; Kagome lay protectively in Inu Yasha's arms as they drifted off to sleep again.

It wasn't for many hours later that the two woke up finally. The hut was empty and the usual sounds of villagers sifted in through the windows.

 

Inu Yasha was again the first to wake, content to just sit and listen to Kagome's rhythmic heartbeat and breathing, drifting in and out of sleep for about half an hour. Kagome stirred in his arms as she woke.

 

"'Bout time you woke up" he whispered

 

She looked up at him in surprise "how long have you been awake?" she mumbled rubbing sleep from her eyes

 

"Long enough" he nuzzled her ear sending tiny shivers down her spine.

 

"Never satisfied are you" she said playfully, standing up to stretch with a groan.

 

They left the hut only to catch Miroku getting whacked squarely on the head by Sango's weapon. Sango had the usual annoyed expression on her face. "Lecher" she mumbled.

Inu Yasha and Kagome couldn't help but laugh out loud.

 

"Oh, your awake" said Sango looking up from the unconscious form of Miroku.

 

Kagome was bombarded with a small ball of fur "You sleep to much" came the squeaky voice of the little kitsune.

 

She transferred the Shippou to her shoulder. Looking up at Inu Yasha who nodded in understanding.

"We have decided on something," she said looking at the ground.

 

"Wait" Inu Yasha spoke up. Everyone looked at him. "Shouldn't Kaede be here as well?"

 

"Oh, you're right" Kagome said, looking around.

 

"I think she said she was going to look for some medicinal herbs in the forest" Sango spoke up. "I'll go find her" she said, turning around "meet you back in the hut".

 

Just as she left, Miroku came to. Sitting up and massaging his head. "Why did I deserve that?"

 

Kagome and Inu Yasha rolled their eyes. "You're asking?" shot Inu Yasha. "Come on Miroku, we need to talk back in the hut".

 

Miroku nodded, standing and brushing the dust from his fondushu. He looked around "Where'd Sango go?"

 

"She went to find Kaede, she'll meet us back at the hut" said Kagome.

 

They all turned and headed back to the hut in silence. They only waited a few minutes before Sango entered, closely followed by Kaede and Kirara.

 

Inu Yasha and Kagome sat across from everyone, only Sango and Miroku separately knowing what this might be about. Kagome took a deep breath, trying to get this over with as quickly as possible.

 

"Inu Yasha and I have made a final decision about what we will do with the jewel". she subconsciously touched the jewel around her neck. "We have decided that, umm, I'll be the one to use it."

 

Kaede and Shippou looked at her, confused expressions on their faces. Miroku nodded, eyes closed. Sango merely stared at Kagome, a small grin on her face.

 

"What do ye mean? Ye can't be thinking about destroying the jewel" spoke up Kaede, breaking the silence.

 

"No, we were thinking about using it to make me like, well, like Inu Yasha". She glanced at Inu Yasha.

 

"You mean make yourself Hanyou?" asked Shippou in disbelief.

 

They both nodded, waiting for Kaede's input on their decision.

 

Kaede sat in silence like Miroku for a moment. "I see you have thought this decision out very well then" she turned to Kagome "You are willing to sacrifice your family and friends in both this time and yours?"

 

Kagome nodded slowly "I'll probably live long enough to see my family again anyway"

 

"So your saying you wish to stay and live in this time?" asked Kaede

 

Kagome nodded.

 

"Well, if that is your final decision I have no obligations or regrets" Kaede said with a smile.

 

Kagome laughed and hugged Inu Yasha who grinned and hugged her back.

After a few moments of celebration Kagome asked Kaede "So when can I do this?"

 

Kaede shrugged her shoulders "when ever you wish, it's your decision".

 

Kagome looked up to Inu Yasha, the question in her eyes. What ever he said would be fine with her.

 

"Let us decide in private," he finally said, rising. Kagome was close on his heels.

 

"Can we discuss this at the hot spring? I really need a bath," Kagome asked as they left the hut.

 

"Ya, sure" He had no problem where they talked. Kagome ran back in side for her bathing things.

 

They walked to the hot spring in silence. They found a more secluded part of the spring, surrounded by high rocks to block them from unwanted intrusions.

 

Kagome slipped in first. "Oh this feels so nice" she swam over to an underwater ledge, soaking her hair as she went. Inu Yasha slipped unceremoniously in after her.

He let Kagome wash her hair and body in silence, giving himself time to prepare for their conversation. But Kagome lathering up her body next to him kept distracting his train of thought. Little did he know Kagome was doing this purposefully.

 

Without opening her eyes Kagome spoke "Your submarine's surfacing" an evil grin spreading across her face.

 

Inu Yasha blushed slightly looking down. Does she know me that well? He thought in disbelief before realizing he had no idea what a submarine was. Then he realized she had probably planned this. "Evil wench" he muttered barely audible to Kagome.

 

"Excuse me?" her eyes snapped open, glaring at him.

 

"You heard me" he growled. After a moment he added mumbling "Serves you right, you got what you deserved for making fun of me" and turned his back, arms crossed.

 

A moment of silence followed between them, Inu Yasha glanced at her; her eyes and face full of hurt and guilt. Human nature finally overpowered his normal demon disposition and he turned around to apologize.

"I'm sorry Kagome, I didn't mean that" he hugged her.

 

"I'm sorry too, I shouldn't have played you like that. I guess I should take it as a compliment that you really do have those feelings for me" she grinned looking up at Inu Yasha.

 

"What? You didn't believe I loved you before that?" this time Inu Yasha's eyes filled with hurt.

 

"No, I didn't mean it like that" She couldn't stand this passing of guilt and hurt. She wrapped one arm around his neck, the other against his chest and drew him down to meet her lips.

 

When they broke apart Kagome whispered "I'm sorry if your sorry, deal?" a small smirk spreading across her face.

 

Inu Yasha placed his forehead against hers and he whispered back "deal".

 

"Now lets settle the matter at hand" she said, turning serious.

 

They sat in silence for perhaps 10 minutes mumbling things to themselves.

 

Kagome raised her sights to the moon, 3 more nights till the new moon. Then a thought crossed her mind. "Hey Inu Yasha, how about in 3 days at sundown?"

 

Inu Yasha looked at her questioningly "But that's on the new moon"

 

"Ya I know, and Kaede told me that the night I choose will always be the night I turn human, like you"

 

 

*2 days later*

 

"We'll be back in a couple hours! I promise guys!" Kagome shouted over her shoulder. She was in a haste to get back to her time. Of course, Inu Yasha had protested, she gave up and just told him to come too. She figured it would be better for her mom and grandpa to see they really were serious and wanted this and might need his stubborn attitude to back her up.

 

The sun was only an hour into the sky as they raced to the well. It was a beautiful Friday morning; she would be able to talk to her parents without Souta since he would be off to school in an hour anyway.

 

Inu Yasha dashed past her in a blur of red as they came into the clearing, the well in sight. "Too slow" he smirked, as she leaned on the well, catching her breath.

 

"Haha, just wait till I'm a Hanyou, then you'll be the one left behind" he just grunted in disbelief. Then without warning she tackled him, knocking him into the well. She waited for a minute before jumping in herself.

 

She made a graceful landing as she came onto the other side to find a grumpy hanyou sitting in the dirt beside her. "Whatja do that for?" he growled.

 

"I don't know," she said innocently, making her way up the rickety rope latter. "Quit pouting and get up"

 

"Feh" He stood and jumped vertically straight out of the well. A few seconds later Kagome swung herself over the top of the well.

 

"Ya ya, I know. Too slow" she said rolling her eyes playfully at him as she bounded up the wooden steps out of the shrine.

 

Inu Yasha caught her by the arm and swung her back down into his arms, placing a sweet kiss on her lips. "You know me too well" he smirked.

 

She smiled up at him. "Come on, I'll bet mom has breakfast ready" she raced back up the steps, swinging open the doors to the shrine. No sooner had she opened the doors had Inu Yasha bounded past her. "Moves his fastest when food is mentioned" she mumbled to herself, sliding the doors closed behind her.

 

When she finally reached her house and entered the kitchen, Inu Yasha was already at the table; all his attention fixed on the plate of food in front of him. "Oh its so good to see you Kagome" her mothers voice came from behind her.

 

"Hey mom, I've missed you so much" she hugged her mom. "Has Souta left for school yet?"

 

"No, He's upstairs getting his school stuff together"

 

"Where's gramps?" she asked, hoping he was home

 

"Out doing his chores, cleaning the storage shed I think" her mom answered with a questioningly tone. "What's up Kagome?"

 

Kagome looked at her mom surprised, she hadn't hoped to answer this question so early "Oh, I uh, just need to talk to you and gramps"

 

"Oh, okay. Souta should be leaving in a few minutes, I'll go get grandpa." She left the kitchen, hollering up at Souta to hurry up before going outside.

 

Kagome sighed with relief before fixing herself some breakfast and sitting down next to Inu Yasha who had already practically inhaled his and now sat with a look of utter contempt.

A few seconds later Souta came bounding into the kitchen, only noticing them on his way back out from grabbing his lunch off the counter. "Hey Sis! Hey you brought Inu Yasha back!" he practically squealed.

 

"Hey squirt, how's it goin'?" Inu Yasha asked coolly.

 

"Uh, fine." Then after a moment, "Kill any Youkai lately?" he asked hopefully.

 

"Souta, if you don't hurry you'll be late for school" Kagome ordered

 

"Who made you boss? You don't even go to school hardly anymore!" he snapped back before stomping out of the room.

 

Kagome just sighed angrily and shook her fist "So much for a quiet visit"

She was just finishing her tea before her mom came inside closely followed by her jii-san.

 

"Kagome! It's nice of you to visit!" he grinned before realizing who was sitting next to her. He wasted no time in throwing several sutras at Inu Yasha.

 

Inu Yasha just waved then away with his hand. "You think you'd learn by now that they don't work on me," he said in a bored tone.

 

"Now now boys. Kagome, what was it you wanted to tell us?" her mom asked gently

 

"Oh ya. Well as you know we have been searching all over for the shards of the jewel, but about a week ago we finally completed it and destroyed Naraku" she paused to catch her breath. "Now that the Shikon is completed, it can be used to make one wish" she paused again making sure her mom and jii-san understood. They nodded their heads for her to continue. "Well any way, we were intending that Inu Yasha use it to become either pure Youkai or pure human." She side glanced at Inu Yasha who had his eyes closed and arms crossed, ready if needed. "But we were finding it incredibly difficult to come to real answer because if he were to be full Youkai he would no of nothing but killing and destruction, put if he were mortal, he would undoubtedly miss his Hanyou abilities."

 

Her mom and jii-san had a very confused look on their faces. "So what are asking us? Do you want to know what we would advise?" her mom asked.

 

"No, We did reach an agreement completely from the original plan though" she took a deep breath before continuing "I came up with the idea to use the jewel for my self to become like Inu Yasha" she exhaled quickly, waiting for their response. She felt Inu Yasha stiffen beside her in anticipation as well.

 

They merely blinked at her, letting what they just heard sink in. Her mom was the first to break the silence "You know you wouldn't be able to return to school honey"

 

"Mom, with the grades I've got, I doubt I'd be able to complete it anyway"

 

Her mom nodded her head and sighed "well that is all I have to argue, you have my approval" she smiled

 

Kagome nodded and smiled before looking at her jii-san "what do you have to say gramps?"

 

He sat quietly for a moment in thought "Well if you plan on becoming Youkai then I take it you have chosen Inu Yasha as your mate?" he said rather gruffly.

 

Kagome blinked "Uh, ya that's right" she blushed a little at his forwardness of the question.

 

He nodded "I guess there's no stopping you then" he sighed.

 

Kagome nearly squealed in delight. "Oh thank you so much!" she jumped across the table and hugged them. "I thought it was better to tell you before I came home with ears and claws" she laughed.

 

"So when do you plan on using the jewel?" jii-san asked, unaffected by the joyous atmosphere.

 

"Umm, we thought about doing it on the new moon." She said, settling back in her chair. "You see, the night I choose to use the jewel will be the night I am rendered mortal"

 

"Ah, just like Inu Yasha" her mother answered "You'll be mortal together" she grinned and clasped her hands to her chest.

 

Kagome grinned "Ya that's right". "Well, any other questions?"

"I have one" her jii-san asked mildly "If you use the jewel, won't the well be sealed?"

 

"Normally it would, but seeing as how I'll be using the jewel, it will stay open. I know, its kinda confusing" she looked at him. "Any other questions?" she looked across the table "no? Then I'm gunna have a shower before we go" she practically bounced up the stairs.

 

Inu Yasha grinned as she left, there was nothing in their way to happiness now. Once she was Hanyou, he would mark her as his.

 

"So Inu Yasha, how are you?" Mrs. Higurashi asked.

 

"Uh, fine thanks" he said, caught off guard at the question.

 

"So I take it I have many interesting grand children to look forward too?" she grinned

 

Inu Yasha blushed slightly as he nodded his head.

 

"Will we ever meet any of your other friends from the past?"

 

Inu Yasha contemplated the question "Probably, I now Shippou has always wanted to come here"

 

"Shippou? Oh, he's the little kitsune child right?" Kagome's mom asked

 

"Ya, he was really upset when we left. He has kind of accepted Kagome as his adoptive mother"

 

"Aww, you mean he's an orphan?"

 

"Ya, his father was killed by two thunder demons right after his mother died. Kagome sort of rescued him and adopted him as her own" he shrugged his shoulders and yawned.

 

"Why don't you go up to Kagome's room and get some rest, You look exhausted" she grinned.

 

Inu Yasha nodded and stood before making his way up the stairs around the corner. He knew this house as if it were his own especially Kagome's room. He passed the bathroom and heard Kagome singing away in the shower. He grinned and made his way to her room were Buyou was stretched full length in the sun on her desk, having knocked several things onto the floor. He sat down on her bed leaning against the wall, arms and legs crossed.

 

He woke up about half an hour later to find Kagome rummaging through her dresser with only her bra and pink silky's on. "Hey Kagome" he yawned and stretched.

 

"Oh sorry, did I wake you?" she stood and turned around.

He shook his head "Glad you did, or I would have missed a great view" he grinned

 

"Oh Haha, hentai. Not here with my parents thanks" she smirked evilly, shaking a finger and leaning down in front of him. She stopped and scowled. "Uh Inu Yasha, my face is up here" she turned his face up to meet hers.

 

"Then don't taunt me like that" he growled back trying to cover his blush.

 

She stood straight and continued her hunt for suitable clothing. Inu Yasha jumped out her window to the Goshinbuko. "This is going to be a very interesting relationship" Kagome muttered to herself while pulling out several pairs of short shorts and tossing them in her bag. Then searched for a shirt to wear and drew out a red tank top, slipping it over her head. "Now for some pants" she rummaged through her closet and found a pair of cut off jean shorts and tried them on. Now satisfied she closed her pack and dragged it down stairs. "I'm leaving now!" she hollered through the house.

 

"See you later Kagome! Got everything?" her mom's voice echoed from the laundry room.

 

"Ya thanks! Bye!" Kagome slipped on her shoes and stumbled outside. "Coming Inu Yasha?"

 

In a red flash he was at her side "Duh" he answered. "Gimme that" he grabbed her pack.

 

"Thanks"

 

They walked to the shrine, excitement filling their souls. "Oh Kagome, your mother asked when she would meet everyone else"

 

"Really? Shippou will be happy to hear that" she grinned, sliding the shrine doors open.

 

They were no sooner inside with the doors shut that Inu Yasha had his lips pressed against hers, his free arm wrapped around her waist pulling her close. "I couldn't take it any longer" he smirked.

 

"Jeez, always lookin' for a piece aren't you?" she grinned "You've been hanging out with Miroku too long"

 

He scooped her up and jumped straight into the well without a word.

 

 

Inu Yasha no sooner set Kagome down than she was pummeled in the stomach my Shippou. "Did they say yes?" he asked hastily.

 

"Yes Shippou, everything is fine now" she hugged him and dug out a sucker for him.
