InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ The Offering ❯ Simple life ( Chapter 1 )
Hey! This is my second fanfic. My first was Stuck to Fluff, which is an Inuyasha fanfic with Kagome/Sesshomaru pairing. Check it out under my username, ChobitsXDarkFreya, later.
This story is comedy and romance so I hope you like it! I don't know what I'm thinking! I can barely keep up with Stuck to Fluff and I writing another story?!
Please review and send me ideas for this story if you have any. It really helps!
THE OFFERING
Chapter 1
"Kagome, dear, would you please prepare dinner?" asked Kagome's mother. "Of course" Kagome said making her way into the little hut.
Kagome was a 15, going on 16 in a week, teenager. She lived in a small village in the West with her mother and grandfather. Kagome had no job except to cook dinner every once in a while and take training from Kaede who taught her the ways of the miko. Kaede was the village miko and often taught gifted young girls. Kagome was still in training but she knew basic spells. Though the other girl in training, Kikyo, did discourage her, she still tried her hardest.
Even though it wasn't the life of luxury Kagome loved her village, family and friends. Kagome filled the pot with water and wiped the sweat off her forehead. Lately the small town had been suffering from a draught and it was terrible because they were having trouble farming, which meant shortage of food.
Kagome placed the pot over a fire and returned outside. Her mother was picking the last of the fruit from the apple trees. Kagome slowly made her way to the forest and ran to a large tree in a clearing. Kagome had found a new friend a few months before. He was about her age visually but he was truly over 50 years old. His name was Inuyasha, and he was a hanyou, meaning he was half human half demon, but Kagome didn't mind.
She was actually sympathetic for the poor guy. His childhood hadn't been the best so he was kinda moody at times, at first the village people hadn't liked him but they soon accepted him when he began to help out with farming and building houses. Kagome looked up into the large tree. The tree was sacred to the small village and it was called the God Tree.
She usually found Inuyasha lounging in it when there was nothing to do. She had actually been thinking about her feelings for Inuyasha the night before, whether they were friendly or…something more. "Inuyasha!" she called. There was a rustling in the leaves and she continued to gaze up. "Inuyasha!!" she called again.
"What?" he said jumping to the ground. "Wanna help me with dinner?" she said cheerfully. Inuyasha thought about it for a while then said "What kind?" "Chicken soup" she said. Inuyasha's ears perked up at the very word "chicken".
"Feh, fine!" he said and walked off towards the village grumpily like he was doing her a huge favor, but deep down she knew he loved to eat chicken.
Kagome made it back to the village and sent Inuyasha off to go get a chicken from the market. It was still early and Kagome listened to the bird's chirping while she sat by the pot of boiling water. Her mother soon came in and said "Kagome, don't forget you have training today at the shrine. Kaede says you should be there after dinner." "Ok, do you know where I put the seasonings?" Kagome asked looking around the hut.
"Right here" her mother said, handing her a basket with small bottles of seasonings.
Inuyasha soon returned with the featherless and headless chicken and handed it to Kagome. "Will Inuyasha be joining us?" Kagome's mother asked. Kagome nodded. Her mother smiled at Inuyasha and exited the hut. Kagome often treated Inuyasha to food so it wasn't anything out of the ordinary for him to eat dinner with the family. Though, her grandfather did try to ward him away with spells sometimes, but he never paid any attention.
Kagome slowly cut the chicken into three portions and lowered them into the pot while pouring some seasonings into it at the same time.
Inuyasha inhaled the smell and eyed the pot hungrily. "We'll just leave it there for a while" Kagome said. She turned to Inuyasha. "What now?" he asked.
Kagome smiled and said, "Wanna go swimming?" "If there's any water left" Inuyasha said. "I don't think it's that hot" she said grabbing another set of clothes.
Inuyasha soon found himself running with Kagome to the river. She sat down panting when they reached it. He peered down at it. "Well, it has gone down a little" he said. She looked over the edge and realized the water had gone down a tad.
"It's fine!" she said. She laid her extra pair of clothes and shoes on a nearby boulder and touched the water with her foot. "Wow, it's really warm" she said sliding in. "You're forgetting something important" Inuyasha said taking off his red haori. He slid in with only his beige pants. "What?" she asked. "You're still wearing your clothes" he said going into the deeper end. "Of course I am! I'm not swimming around naked with you here!" she said. "Whatever" he said leaning against a rock.
She looked down at her clothes. It consisted of a blue dress and a white sash. `It's old anyways' she thought and went underwater. She swam deeper until she saw the bottom where something caught her eye. It sparkled slightly, and she pulled it out from the tangled weeds. She kicked off the bottom of the river giving her a little boost to the top. She swam to the shore where she inspected it closer. It was a bracelet with a deep blue teardrop. Inuyasha swam over to her and looked at it.
"What is it?" he asked. "A bracelet, I think" she replied sliding it on her wrist. "Matches your eyes" he said walking out of the water. She looked at the bracelet for a little more before she felt water rush up to her waist. She looked to the middle of the river where she saw Inuyasha emerge. "Weak!" she said laughing. "Feh! You could do better?" he said. "Watch a master" she said and walked onto a large boulder next the edge of the river.
She backed up slightly and made a dash where she jumped off the edge of the boulder and dived into the river sending large waves to Inuyasha where he was slightly pushed back. She emerged from the surface and said, "Hah!"
"Next time mine'll be so big it'll take you under" Inuyasha said getting out of the river and drying himself off by shaking his body. "Inuyasha!" Kagome said laughing as she tried to shield herself from the water flying her way. He sniffed the air and said, "Dinner, hurry up and get changed. I'm hungry." "I'm going, I'm going" she said walking behind some bushes after grabbing her separate pair of clothes. "Don't you dare look!" she said sliding out of her dress.
"What's there to look at?" he said playfully. Her shoe collided with his head and he said, "Ow!" He rubbed his head slowly while Kagome slipped into a white kimono with red flowers. She squeezed the last of the water from her hair and then heard something in the bushes rustle. "Inuyasha! I told you not to peek you hentai!" she screamed. "I'm not!" he said defensively.
The bushes rustled again and Kagome backed up and cried "Inuyasha! There's something in the bushes!" Inuyasha walked over to the bushes and stuck his hand into the thick leaves where he pulled out a tiny kitsunes. "Aww…how cute" Kagome said calming herself. "It's some rodent" Inuyasha said rudely. The kit stuck out his tongue and said, "Let me go dog face!" Inuyasha growled but Kagome said, "Where are you're parents, little guy?"
The kit looked down sadly and said, "They aren't in this world any more." "You're all alone?!" Kagome exclaimed. The kit nodded. Kagome thought for a minute before asking, "You wanna live with me? I live in that village over there." The kit thought about it for a minute before saying happily, "Yeah!" Kagome smiled as the kit jumped into her arms after biting Inuyasha. "You actually want that thing?" Inuyasha asked. Kagome sent him a glare and he stopped talking.
She began walking back to camp with Inuyasha in the lead. "What's your name?" she asked the kit. "Shippo" he replied, making himself comfortable in her arms.
"Inuyasha! Slow down" she called. "You hurry up!" she heard him yell. The three made it back to the village where they were greeted with rice and chicken soup.
"Just in time Kagome" her grandfather said as she and Inuyasha sat down. The kit began inspecting little things in the hut like futons, food, money and other things.
"Who is this?" Kagome's mother asked walking into the hut and spotting Shippo. "I'm Shippo" the kit replied. "He's all alone so I was wondering if I could keep him" Kagome asked hopefully. "Absolutely not!" her grandfather yelled. Kagome sighed as he began his stories about bad demons in disguise.
She ignored him and turned to her mother. Her mother thought about it for a while before nodding and saying, "Take good care of Shippo." "I will" Kagome replied and began passing out bowls of soup and plates of rice.
Shippo was soon accepted and they learned he didn't like rice because it stuck to his front teeth, but he was madly in love with sweet things.
Inuyasha was too busy stuffing his face with the chicken to bother having a conversation with anyone. Kagome was talking to her grandfather about her training while her mother just ate like Inuyasha.
Kagome was first to finish her food and watched her family and friends as they continued to eat. How she loved every single one…….even Shippo was sure to grow on her. And Inuyasha? She knew she loved him……but she didn't know which kind of love.

Elsewhere in the village:
"What hot, dry weather we are having" said the village elder to the other leaders.
"If we do not do something soon, our village will starve" said one of them. "Many years ago, there was a terrible drought, much worse than this. And the villagers of this same town decided it was time for rainfall" said the elder. "What brought rainfall?" asked one of the leaders.
"The demon over those mountains" continued the elder. "The Tai of the West?" asked another leader. "Yes. The villagers gave him an offering and the next day rain poured down from the heavens" said the elder. "What did they offer?" asked another leader. "They gave him…….a bride, but I doubt it is the same demon lord for that was long ago. Perhaps it is his son that rules now" the elder finished.
"It is decided!" yelled a leader. "We shall seek out the most beautiful and kindest woman in our village who will be offered to the demon lord!" he said. The others cheered and began to consider all the woman in the village.
But only one would suffice.
